THE HISTORY OF THE ETERNAL WAR
Atlas has always been a continent divided. When the first ancestors of the great races rose from the primeval mud, the gods fought to claim them as their own. Some races fell under the sway of the dark gods, such as the orcs, goblins, and giants, while others were embraced by the gods of light, such as the humans, halflings, elves, and dwarves. Driven by their respective gods, the legions of darkness and the army of light fight for dominance in a land of blood. Centuries of unceasing warfare has left little opportunity for technological advancement, and cities are few and far between. The majority of Atlas' population reside in and around castles and strongholds for maximum protection. One can scarcely travel a dozen miles without sighting an army encampment, and children battle with wooden swords before they can even walk. Razed villages and leveled towns stand grim testament to the terrible cost of war. When the dust settles and the smoke clears, only one side will claim victory.
In the Recruitment and News Thread, you will find the Hall of Heroes, Casualties of War, Recruitment Notices, and the latest news from the War Letters.
Belorin approaches where the owl disappeared with no trouble. The air is still around him as he examines the ground, finding nothing. There's not trace of a body, not even a feather. Liron joins him a few moments later. The treeline on the small cliffs above is void of movement, animal or otherwise. A gust of wind shakes the branches of the trees for a moment, but there is nothing to be seen. A soldier near Loraphine and Alyanna overhears their conversation and whispers, "We dunno, but one guy, says he's a mage. Said it was a familiar or somethin' before runnin' off to tell the higher-ups, who've been standin' in a circle talkin' about it. Somethin' about the color of the smoke and conjuration magic or whatever. Personally, I don't care what it is, as long as we can take it out." The soldier shifts his weight, hefting his mace above his shoulder. Shaking his head, he mutters, "Magic's weird."
Belorin takes a few moments to glance around for a moment longer. He was feeling uneasy about the entire thing, and he suspected -- couldn't confirm -- but he did suspect that the damn owl was spying on them. He looked over at Liron, his lips thinning as he stood and walked back to camp, a hand running through his brown hair. He makes a beeline for his commanding officer and goes into the tent.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Loraphine shrugs her shoulder in dispirited manner at the soldier's response.
"If that's what someone with a profession in magic said, can't argue with that. I guess dragons can do those weird magics too."
The elven monk then disseminates this new piece of information to her fellow party members that are still resting within the camp. After that, she takes over the next shift of night watch before she makes her daily trance.
Rokem lets out a small sigh of boredom , a habit he tries to emulate from his creators and a few fellow soldiers, as he and a batch of new recruits whom are late make their way lit by torch towards camp. Being ambushed by creatures of the land once but not twice and losing half their horses from it had begun to whittle away at the resolve a little for some of his fellow compatriots. He figured it would be inapropiate time to counsel them with one of his crafted drinks so was at a lost as to how to help. Electing to take up the most forward position his dark composted wood and iron frame dimly lit by torch. "Hopefully it isn't much longer till we reach camp." lets out rokem silently to himself, eager to be free of this gloomy overhanging vibe.
Belorin lifts the flap of the captain's tent and steps inside. The captain, a younger woman with a certain celestial glow about her, is leaning back in a chair as a purple-skinned tiefling in long robes is explaining the intricacies of conjuration magic. "... in conclusion, Captain Edgren, I believe that there is an enemy spellcaster who has been spying on us using their familiar. I recommend that we increase our defenses and keep an eye out for the following fauna: screech owls, barn owls, northern white-faced owls, southern white-faced owls-"
Captain Edgren held up her hand to silence the tiefling. "Confidence, please. I know you're big on details, but we have a soldier with a report. Come in, recruit." She beckoned Belorin to come in, sitting up in her chair.
Loraphine sees torchlight off in the distance, as Rokem and a few other soldiers approach the camp. The light of the torch reflects off of Rokem's polished iron body, illuminating a bit of the area in front of him.
Liron stands up straight, keeping her eyes on the trees as she walks back to camp with Belorin, "We're being watched." Once back in camp, Liron will lead the faithful in evening prayers to ask for the protection and guidance of the Light in their mission.
[@Emilia_Manelli I'm afraid I don't follow? I'm just waiting for Belorin's report and any other player actions before moving to morning.]
Alyanna spots nothing in the dark, other than the approaching group of soldiers with Rokem, who quickly make their way into camp, mingling with the rest of the soldiers.
"Captain," Belorin says as he salutes within the tent, sparing a glance towards the tiefling, "I think we may have just eliminated such a familiar just recently. I was out in the perimeters of the camp when we noticed an owl flying some distance away. Thinking it was simply game, I shot it and it... disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Me and another soldier witnessed this, Captain."
"Nice to meet you too. You're the second one I met beside the free-spirited halfling Odo. He's a fellow martial arts practitioner like me and has a sweet tooth from what I learned when talking with him."
As her night watch goes on, the slow crackling of fire and the awkward silence of the night between them gets into her nerves. She then begin asking questions to Alyanna to help pass the time.
"So.. what are your reasons for joining this war party? Mine is bit far-fetched and might take more than a lifetime but I want to end the ongoing war. How about you?"
The elven monk eagerly waits at her new companion's reply.

Captain Edgren's smile grows with every word of Belorin's story. When he finished speaking, she stood up and clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Excellent report, soldier. Short and to the point. Don't you agree, Confidence?" She shot a smirk towards the tiefling, who huffed impatiently. Returning her attention to Belorin, Edgren continued. "I will make one correction to your report, soldier. Rather than just you and another soldier, I think half the camp saw that puff of smoke, including our long-winded friend over here. I'd like to commend you on your watchfulness, though I do recommend you get some rest. We'll be coming up on the abandoned city of Dur Kvarden tomorrow, where our scaly friends are supposed to be located. Your name is..." Edgren squints as she tries to remember, seeming to have been trying to dedicate the entire war party's names to memory. "It starts with a... B, right?"
Paren, slinking through the trees, disappears from the sight of the watch. Scanning the ground, Paren finds lizard-like footprints that almost certainly belong to kobolds, though he cannot ascertain the freshness of the tracks at a glance.
After arriving at camp Rokem takes in the layout of the place , keeping his travelling sack full of various hops and baileys and herbs on him. After reporting in with his fellow recruits he makes his way to where the night watch is , his body not truly ever asleep even when resting has always earned him a spot as night watcher. Seeing the human and elf conversing he waits on the outside till a break in their conversation to introduce himself. " Hello there friends , I've just arrived with the new recruits." pointing a hand over his shoulder as the last of his fellow recruits unload their cart and remaining horses. "Figured id make my self of some use and assist with the nights watch." Rokem words himself carefully , social interactions he has learned with others then his masters always seemed to be harder. He learned early in his adventures not all appreciate his dwarvens masters way of crass and flavorful language and topics. As he takes postion every so often he iddly pulls out some herbs and starts eating them seeming to stop and think on them momentarily each time as he chews on them.

Alyanna looks at Loraphine and looks at the fire before turning to Loraphine to speak. “To end the war. I’m sure your story is anything but far-fatched.” She says softly. There’s a pause befor a dwarf, who introduces himself as Rokem while joining them for the watch. Alyanna does an insight check on the dwarf.

Alyanna studies him closer, her eyes narrowing. Then she straightens back and with a tilt of her head she greets the warforged humanoid. “Alyanna.” She says softly, watching the warforge’s reaction.
Paren concludes that these are definitely kobold tracks, indicating around 5 or 6 kobolds that were in the area, no longer than a few hours ago. It seems as if the owl wasn't the only surveillance out to watch the group.
Satisfied with his findings Paren decides it's time to go and make a report to Captain Edgren. "Sir looks like owl was not the only thing spying on us. I found 5 to 6 sets of Kobold tracks around the perimeter of camp. The tracks seemed a few hours old."
After reporting in Paren finds a decently secluded area to meditate and refresh.
