Entering into the dwarven city, a number of things would become obvious. Something not quite the size of a dragon was living there. After some investigation, two things would become known: first, the "dragon" is actually a chimera that seems to have naturally taken residence at first, but the second thing proves otherwise. Second, one of the older dwarven laboratories has been fortified, and kobolds patrol the area regularly. The laboratory is home to a faux-necromancer known as The Stitcher, who has been sent on behalf of the Army of Darkness to win over the kobolds by resurrecting their dragon. The Stitcher is making little to no progress, and reveals himself to be a Warlock bound to Diias. The Stitcher has been using his familiar to observe the War Party, which generally takes the form of an owl.
Depending on the amount of time the party takes investigating the city, The Stitcher uses a number of kobolds as sacrifices to try and resurrect the dragon. When this fails, the Stitcher uses their bodies to create a creature similar to a guard drake, made from kobold bits. This only would affect the fight with the Stitcher, who is cowardly by nature, and tries to reach a teleport circle in the room behind his laboratory once the fight starts going poorly for him. The kobolds run away after the Stitcher is defeated, as they were only staying in the area in hopes their dragon would be reborn.
The Stitcher's notes contain a series of rituals to (theoretically) create a dracolich, which could be ascertained with a DC 20 Arcana check. The notes, if discovered by officers, would be confiscated and sent back to the capital. If intentionally hid, the one who hid them (or perceived to have hid them) would be given a typical martial punishment.
