Assuming we didn't kill him, we will tress him up.
"Ajax & Mulligan, you two are the most threatening, and goblins are very weak willed, so I suggest you question him about the others. A show of muscles and a desire for violence should open his mouth. Most goblins speak common, but we need I can translate."
Mulligan: You swing at the fleeing goblin, and as you hear the shouts of Kyanite, pull your swing. His yell was just a second too late, as your hammer comes down, glancing off the back of the goblin's head, killing it instantly.
The attacking goblins are now dead. There is still the matter of the horses blocking the road and your job seeing the wagon with Gundren's supplies to Phandalin.
Ajax cures himself (5HP: LAY ON HANDS) then turns his attention to the survived goblin, at first tiying it and then slapping not so gently to wake him up
Odo walks over to the goblin he killed and starts poking it with his staff.
"What ARE these things? They're ugly... Goblins you said? Ugly name for an ugly creature..."
"Yes, I have made a study of their language, and thus a little about them. I must say, I am rather surprised to see so few in attack. They like to have numbers on their side, as any bully."
There are 5 dead goblins. 3 on the side of the road with Ajax and Mulligan, and two on the other. None of the goblins survived the battle. Kai, you look them over, but they don't really have anything of value on them. They each have a somewhat battered scimitar and shortbow and all are wearing leather armor that has definitely seen better days, in addition to being goblin-sized. You find no coins or other treasure. When you examine the horses, you do notice that the gear looks familiar. Off to the side of the ransacked saddlebags is an empty map case. You recognize the case as belonging to Gundren.
"Guys, look at this. I'd know that seal anywhere: it was Gundren. Kai had the right idea, I should have taken that last one alive." Mulligan flings the sharp end of his work warhammer into the ground in exasperation.
"So, we have two dead horses, five dead goblins, and no blood or anything to track where they took Gundren. They didn't take that box, so either it was well hidden or just not what they were after. Either way, this wasn't a bandit hit."

Ajax: You did indeed, but Mulligan did not and killed the goblin.
Kai: The map case is empty. Whatever was in it before is not there now. You do notice, however, when you bend over to retrieve the map case, some strange marks on the dirt road. The marks lead off to the side of the road.

"I didn't realize these gorbluns lived so close to Neverwinter.... I thought this trail would have been more safe than not."
Odo continues to poke and prod at the fallen goblins in fascination until the horse situation is resolved.
