“Kyanite is no fool: it depends how many they are...roughly. But first, Sildar, come on, we are getting to know you a little bit: you seem annoyed or...worst about the townmaster... what did you say about him willing to ignore?!? I mean, we just consigned the red brands guy to s person who will let him run free?! To hunt us ?! What is happening here, we are involved and we need an explanation! “
The starting of the speech is simply sympathetic, the rest is really with preoccupation in his voice, his forehead beaded with sweat
Sildar sighs heavily. "The Redbrands are a continual problem, and one that is growing. Townmaster Harbin fears their retaliation and refuses to deal with them. He won't cause any problems for you, though he will likely just let the man you brought go after he wakes." Sildar stands and then paces behind his desk. "I would deal with them myself, but I need to find Iarno and Gundren. I am not sure of their number, but rumor is that their hideout is in Tresandar Manor, just east of town." He looks up suddenly, a gleam in his eyes. "Harbin will likely release the man, but he doesn't know that. What if I can arrange for you to question him without Harbin's interference? Perhaps you can get some information from him, while I convince Harbin to hang on to him for just a bit while you deal with the problem?"
Sildar nods. "Good. Wait here one moment." He walks out of the office and you hear him talking to Harbin, though you can't make out what is said. Sildar returns, closing the door behind him as he enters. "Harbin has agreed to hold the man in a cell in the cellar below for a couple of days. Once the man is in the cell, I'll distract Harbin - take him elsewhere - while you question the Redbrand. Hopefully he will be willing to share some helpful information," he says.
Kyanite frowns at the thought of questioning. "Maybe if we hat him somewhere with the right atmosphere I can cast illusions of the sounds of other people being tortured and he might give us information?
Sildar nods his head at Kai's words. "I am not suggesting you torture the man, merely that he could be persuaded to share his knowledge of the Redbrands. They likely would take exception to his allowing himself to be captured. If he didn't have to worry about retaliation, perhaps? Of course, you should do whatever you think best. In the meantime, I will continue to search for information on Iarno and Gundren." Sildar pauses, head cocked. "It sounds as if Harbin has secured the man - I'll get him out of the way so you can slip into the cellar and question the man. Good luck."
Sildar steps out of the room, calling for Harbin. From the doorway, you can see him with his arm around the Townmaster, leading the portly man outside the building.
The man, still waking up, is somewhat groggy. "Wha - ?" He looks around, seeming to suddenly realize where he is. He looks at Mulligan with bleary eyes, but manages a sneer. "I'll be out of here in no time," he snarls. "Harbin doesn't dare stand up to Glasstaff."
Kyanite works his magic an authoritative muffled voice can be heard. "Whoever talks first lives. The rest can rot in the Abyss after I draw and quarter them"
The man blanches at the muffled voice, swallowing hard. He looks at Mulligan again, then scowls, realizing he's already said more than he should. "You don't need to worry about him, he'll find you soon enough," he says with a sneer.
The man gives a dark chuckle. "He won't come for me, but my friends will come for you. It's not far from here to the Man-, erm, hideout and I'll be out of here soon enough." He looks you all up and down with a sneer. "This town belongs to the Redbrands and no one stands up to us, unless they want trouble." He grins and you can see that a couple of his teeth are missing.
Kyanite hearing the Redbrand's mistake grimaces as he cast again. Seemingly from the other room comes a high pitched shriek before it is cut off. A moment of silence another illusion, "He passed out, damn," comes the authoritarian voice. "I need to piss... then bring me the other one."
As he hears the noises caused by Kai's magic, the man's face drains of color. He swallows hard, but persists in his sneering. "You don't scare me - you'll be sorry, just like that damn woodcarver!" he shouts, spittle flying everywhere.
ooc: wait a second, it's just me or...should we know or imply who this woodcarver might be? I don't understand if our characters know but i don't remember or our characters just don't know. In order to choose how to play I need to know this

”sure, we can do that”

Mulligan walks up to the cell holding the Redbrand.
He'll start the interrogation by being somewhat friendly:
"What's your name, son? Can we get you anything? Food, water...?
Do you know where you are? (Tell him he's in jail if he doesn't know or pretend not to know)
When and how did you get yourself wrapped up with the Redbrands? What do you think your superiors with the Redbrands will think of your being here?"
We can start here.
Mulligan - make a persuasion check, please.

((Yeah, we would know about him - our waitress at the inn told us. Thel Dendrar was murdered in front of his family.))
"Look at us. Do we look like woodcarvers to you?
Now, Glasstaff. Where?"
