Kelvin chuckles at Viaya's question, a dry humorless laugh made tense by the events of the past couple days. He reflects with distaste back on the attack on Kolovoro, and on his and his companion's terrifying flight into the woods, and wonders whether the strangers encountered a similar fate. "Middle of nowhere indeed, I'm starting to think the safest place in this world is away from it. Damn Valcs" headds brusquely, spitting on the ground. More at ease seeing the strangers aren't malicious, or at least don't seem to be, Kelvintakes another step forward to get a closer look at the elf and gnome. "My friend and I were attacked and were tending to our wounds out here, did any of you see the fire?? Not my favorite thing, that," Kelvin finishes, grimacing as he scrubs the barely present ash from his long-since clean scales.
He makes a small double take at the wooden effigies, noticing them hidden among the branches for the first time. They do seem oddly familiar, or perhaps they're just carved with intent, but something about the way the twigs are carved gives Kelvin and uncomfortable feeling. "I'm not from around here either but let me take a look..."

Looks like I've got my work cut out for me. Okay, let's do some roll results!
Kelvin: At the very least, you notice that the elf is armed but does not have any of her weapons pointed towards you or your traveling companion. You do not notice her gnomish traveling partner until he makes himself known. Clever rogues... As for the hanging effigies, they are far out of your sphere of familiarity. They're old, and you know that much.
Ruggero:You notice the gnome before Kelvin does, but Zakon makes his presence known quick enough that it is of little consequence. You also notice that the elf and the gnome have a little bit of soot still on their clothing, suggesting they too may have come from the direction of the fires in Kolovoro.
Theodore: Your particular order gave you a small crash course in elven deities before you left on your mission to Goyag. Looking at the symbols, you realize that this is a rough example of the starburst, symbol of Corellon, head of the Seldarine, or elven pantheon. [Feel free to google Corellon if you want a more detailed description of his functions.] These wooden items are not all that uncommon for worship practices that would have been seen a hundred years ago by the elves. Advances in civilization have made religion more consolidated to the cities with more elaborate icon making techniques. This is a rare opportunity to see evidence of older practices!

Ruggero relaxes as he listens to Kelvin banter about with these strangers. Feeling more at ease he comes forward with his arms open and notices that Zekon and Viaya are just as dirty as he and Kelvin. He keeps one eye on the half-orc as he comes forward and stands next toKelvin. "Aye, mefriendand I don't mean any harm. Looks like thetwoof you both have seen the better parts of days like we have. These funny looking things you have, why are they so important to the both ofya, if you don't mind me asking," Ruggero says in a thick northern accent. He smiles at them, surprisingly showing clean white teeth.
"I am new to the area as well." He gestures toward the Gnome and theElf."What do your friends call you?"
"As to these," he reaches up towards one. "They appear to be symbols of Corellon. The patron god of the Elves." Nodding to the Elf before a moments uneasiness creases his brow as he remembers Corellon's hatred of the savage Orcs. "Perhaps it is fortuitous to meet others under such a symbol?" Theodore tries his best at a smile and hopes that it does not scare the others like it did in the last town he passed through.
He turns to the human and the dwarf. "You mentioned that you were attacked? Are you in need of assistance? (healing) I do not mean to impose on anyone's plans but we all might be better protected if we were to travel a ways together. Safety in numbers you know."
ooc: Not sure how to hide the spoiler text... but glad to get this rolling. I enjoy everyone's characterizations. They are wonderful.
Viayastraightens a bit as Zakonsteps out of her shadow and into the strangers' lines of sight and though she's relatively sure the only one who hasn't already noticed him is the one she's speaking to she watches for signs of a negative reaction regardless. Still, though everyone appears understandably tense no one seems of a mind for a fight and it's not long before the elf decides to trust the gnome's judgement. Nodding at hiswisdom in deciding to question the newcomers regarding the stars even while she continues to keep a wary eye on said newcomers. Mixed and motley lot that they appear they're no stranger than the other company she's been keeping these past few hours. It isn't until the white haired man mentions the Valcimonians and spits on the ground at the mentioning that both her expression and her mistrust softens however.
"You were in Kolovoro," She states, quick eyes noting some of the ash still caked in some of the creases of his clothes. The dwarf's too show signs of being near the fires. "We weren't certain anyone else made it out."
Distracted briefly as the half orc, Theodore speaks, Viayalooks to him. Making eye contact with Zakon for just a moment before shrugging and giving her name. "Viaya. And that's...good to know." She honestly cannot believe she didn't recognize it sooner but the design is a crude, ancient one and she's never been as religiously minded as her brother. Then again, he'd had his reasons to work to be hadn't he? The half orcseems discomfitted by the symbol for a moment and now that she knows what it stands for the she elf can guess why but hedoesn't let the feeling linger. Smiling at them hopefully as hegoes on. So hopefully, Viayafeels practically compelled to nod reassuringly in return. Even if she doesn't necessarily find anything about these current circumstances or these stars anything but strange.
Ruggero listens as Viaya and Theodore discuss what, to the dwarf, just seems to be stupid twigs tied together, but he remembers how his older brother would always warned Ruggero about keeping his mouth shut when he had such thoughts. So, instead the dwarf listens, and elbows Kelvin, and with a grin nods over at them, his head slightly shaking.
Ruggero then listens when Theodore addressed him and Kevlin and shakes his head, "No, boy, thank you, we don't. I know we look like we just took a stroll through one of them hells those zealots keep yapping about, but it's nothing that a little soap, water, and rest won't fix," Ruggero says to Theo.
Ruggero then turns his attention to Viaya. Something about this elf perks Ruggero up a bit. No, not her looks he thinks to himself, but a quality that a leader of soldiers, like Ruggero, looks for when drafting a squad, but he can't pinpoint exactly what. "Aye... Viaya is it? Me and the lad were in Kolovoro and was just walking through the town when those riders came crashing through. Not knowing nothing about where safety was we just took off into the woods and avoided anything that sounded of hooves. You three are the first souls we've seen that we didn't make it thing to go around. Or maybe we was just too tired of going out of way and that's why we showed ourselves. But it's good to see we're not alone in out ineptness. No, offense of course. But what brings you two wander around these parts?"Ruggero asks Viaya and the gnome. He then slaps his head, "Ah, me ma would slap me up by the head for not introducin me self. Ruggero Dandolo of the Dandolo Clan," and he takes a short bow.
Zakon nods as the others introduce themselves. “Name’s Zakon. Aye, we escaped the fires. A few others escaped with us and are heading on to warn the elves. We,” he nods towards Viaya,“decided to stay and try to help out a local family. Seems fortuitous, since Theo here knew exactly what these stars were.“ He looks around at the ragtag bunch and smiles to himself. Could do a lot worse, he thinks. “Yes, safer together, I agree,” he says.
Zakon blinks at Theo. "The family is safe, for the moment. Their son fell into a strange sleep and even the cleric traveling with us could not determine the cause. The children returned to their home with one of these," he says, pointing to the stars. "We thought they might have something to do with it. That doesn't seem likely now, though," he says as he narrows his eyes in thought. "I wonder if they were put here to ward off something? As some sort of protection? But by whom? And protection from what?" Zakon looks around at the others. "You haven't encountered anyone or anything else out here, have you?"
Turning down Theodore'soffer of healing, the dwarf turns his eyes to her. Viaya meeting his gaze with a sharp nod as he asks after her name and a slower, softer one as he describes what heand his companion faced in Kolovoro. It's a familiar tale now, one that could well have had a different outcome for anyone of them. Yet here they are. Perhaps the half orcis right and Zakonisn't just humoring him. Perhaps they were drawn here, though the elf can't help but hope that whatever fate has in mind they're able to overcome it soon enough. She craves a bath and a better rest than can be found on a lumpy forest floor. All things that will have to wait until or unless they discover what they're out here searching for. A search these strangers can hopefully aid in.
"We fared much the same." She replies, nodding as Zakontells them that they too escaped the burning village by the skin of their teeth. "Stopped here much by chance after encountering that farmer on the road. We hoped we might be able to help or at least find something useful. Instead we found you."Viayaclenches her jaw shut after the words slip out, cursing her own sharp tongue. She hadn't meant to infer that anyone here is useless, to have survived as they have not one of them can be but she had not missed the comment about ineptness and she is always prickly when she's tired. A prickliness not helped by the fact that their search seems to have thus far been for naught. As Zakonsays, the stars don't seem to be the cause of the boy's sleep and though his questions are good ones the answers don't seem the sort to be readily available. Unless of course, these three have seen anything that might help point them in the right direction. Not wanting to seem any more rude than she already does, the elf manages a small smile as the dwarf introduces himself properly. Hoping he either won't take offense or will miss the only partially intended slight from before entirely. They all really do seem like nice enough sorts and at this juncture, she and the gnome can use all the help they can get. "Pleasure to meet you, Ruggero."

A quick look around this area couldn't hurt. I'll use my extra d4 for this roll too: 1
Edit: Eep, not again. I swear I have not manipulated the dice rolls, I'm just bad at computers. I got a 3 on the d4 and added it to the investigation roll after the fact for a total of 12.
Alright, so let's see if I can backtrack and figure this out. So, you rolled a 5 plus 4 to get the 9, and then...you got a 3 or a 2 on the bonus d4? Because it shows you got a 2 on the spoiler text. So, to fix this in the future, I would say set it up like this:
And I should be able to add that all together to put things in order. Any time you get a sparate roll for bonus stuff, just keep that separate. But, yeah, just help me out on one question and tell me if the d4 was a 3 or a 2.
Actually, thinking about it. Maybe just rerolling in the way I suggested would work. Let's just start from scratch on that one.

He then starts to help in their investigation in aiding the child.

Investigation: 13
Guidance Roll: 1
And I should be able to add that all together to put things in order. Any time you get a sparate roll for bonus stuff, just keep that separate. But, yeah, just help me out on one question and tell me if the d4 was a 3 or a 2.
Actually, thinking about it. Maybe just rerolling in the way I suggested would work. Let's just start from scratch on that one.
Lvl 2 - Dathyra Galanodel - High Elf Cleric of the Life Domain - Platinum Plated Keys
Lvl 5 - Dathyra Galanodel - High Elf Cleric of the Life Domain - Hunted

Ruggero nods along Kelvin his new companions finish making their acquaintances. He lifts and then relaxes his battle axe and rests it on his shoulder. "Aye, aye, sounds good to me," Ruggero says as he goes to start investigating, but stops short and turns back to the elf and gnome. "Eh, remind me, what exactly are we looking for? I know this young'n is sick and all, but what were you thinkin' as a plan of action?" Ruggero asks.
He then starts to help in their investigation in aiding the child.
