Wheels of carriages and drays crunch over the freshly-fallen snow, delivering visitors from across the city of Waterdeep to the Sea Ward. Despite the frigid temperature, the atmosphere is warm and jovial. Red velvet-covered tents line Delzorin and Diamond Streets; merchants offer treats and trinkets. The air is filled with the voices of carolers and the scents of spiced pastries and mulled wine.
The Midwinter Gala is an extravagant affair that lasts for a tenday, when the Sea Ward of Waterdeep glitters and gleams, and its crowded streets are filled with merriment. It is a pleasant, festive scene. Delzorin and Diamond Streets have been closed to traffic and are packed with citizens and visitors perusing merchant stands selling seasonal snacks and small gifts. The streets have been cleared of snow, which is banked on the sidewalks and roofs of the villas that line the streets. Throughout the day, snow has fallen in intermittent bursts, adding a fresh coat to the ground. The sunlight is feeble behind snow clouds, but the rays catch the light of the freshly-fallen snow, making it quite bright outside. The light of candles and magic lanterns protrudes from the tents of merchants. Crafted signs advertising drinks, baked goods, clothing, stationary and instruments hang from these tents.

Once introductions are complete, let me know if you would like to peruse the streets, and I will advance from there.
A baby pink-skinned tiefling with lilac-colored eyes, long pink hair, and what looks to be small curled horns painted white was excitedly looking out the window of the carriage at the Midwinter Gala that was already happening in the Sea Ward, so magical especially with the snow falling as well. This is just so wonderful and Harmony hasn't even stepped foot outside to check it all out yet either. It was definitely worth the trip coming all the way to Waterdeep after having heard about this Midwinter Gala, believing that it sounded like so much fun and a perfect place for an idol to join in the festivities and spread cheer to all the people with her songs. That is why despite what should have been common sense for anyone to wear warm attire fit for the winter snow, she instead chose to wear one of her costumes that she thought was perfect for this event, a white and gold snow fairy outfit with pastel accents and even snowflakes on it. She wasn't exactly the brightest with choosing to wear something so short and not covering much when it's winter after all, but an idol has to look cute and in her mind she will be too busy singing, dancing, and having fun to get cold at all. Harmony looked around at the other adventurers who were in the carriage with her as they were coming upon the Sea Ward, thinking that she should introduce herself and get everyone in the festive mood. "Hello! I'm Harmony, it's very nice to meet you all! What are your names? You all here for the Midwinter Gala as well? I've never been to this before and it sounded like so much fun, looks even more funner in person now too. I'm an idol so I wanted to join in the merry and sing all my songs for everyone. I can't wait!"Harmony said in a cutesy happy voice with the biggest grin on her face, making peace signs with her hands and overflowing with a pure and radiant aura. This is going to be so much fun, wanting everyone to be happy and to hopefully make some new friends and fans here as well.
(OCC: This is her outfit, and this is what her hair color, length, and style is. Her horns are like Jester's from Critical Role as well, but painted white.)
You see the top knot first. Long black hair is tied together on the top of his head, his clothes simple, monastic. There is a hood around his shoulders but he seems at peace with the songs and festivity abound. As he moves, his tight lithe musculature becomes under his attire, his arms covered in black markings of ceremonial nature.
”Good day Harmony. May your name signfiy your state of being. They call me Halsen. I adore music and dance that fulfills the soul.”
Then young half-elf next to Halsen uses his dagger as a bookmark in the tome he had been reading.
“Greetings Halsen and Harmony. I am Abraxas Onassis of Candlekeep.”
He leans forward, puts the book in the worn leather shoulder bag at his feet. It is crowded with other books. Abraxas shivers in robes tattered by travel.
“It is warm there. Even this time of year,” he says. “Not to question the merits of music or dance, but warm drink, warm bread, warm stews. Can we find some of those?” He gestures out the carriage window with an ink-stained hand.
OOC: Jove is rather standoffish and non-trusting as well as being just weird. Not weird like a child, but weird like odd or otherworldly. He is not meant to be an edgy character, but he does seem to brood for some people who don't know him yet. Give him a bit to warm up and he will come out of his shell.
There is a dark featured man speaking to a ragged looking person you could assume to be homeless at first glance. The man speaking (Jove) to the homeless guy wears dark hooded clothes with lots of pockets, some sewn on himself. His attire is accented with black runes and crude drawings of what seem to be celestial figures. In front of the homeless man, he draws celestial bodies with lines and orbits coming from them and is quickly blabbering about something that the homeless man is sure to not understand the breadth of.
Upon hearing someone from Candlekeep, he ends his conversation with the homeless man and joins into the conversation.
"Oh hello everyone. Um. I am Jove. Nice to meet your aquaitence. I couldn't help but overhear Mr. Onassis here is from the great city of Candlekeep. Do you happen to know the great writer Alaundo? He is one of my inspirations for my craft. Watch this:"
And with that, (using prestidigitation) he manifests an overhead view of the festival we are all at. His hands start to convulse and the picture moves in and out of focus. It jumps backward, giving an overhead view of Waterdeep, then expanding further to the Sword Coast, the entire planet, then completely disintegrates as it blasts into the cosmos.
"Oh crap. Well, it is a work in progress. Just a little project I am working on."
Abraxas leans out the window of the carriage just far enough that he can speak with Jove.
“We will forever chant the prophecies of Alaundo in the western gardens of Candlekeep. There is no doubting it.” He unlatches the small door of the carriage, steps down out of it, then reaches back inside for his shoulder bag of books. The stone streets are wet and he shivers again but then slings the bag over his head, the wide strap crossing his torso.
Holding the door of the carriage open, Abraxas stares at the warm fire light flickering from the red velvet-covered merchant tents. He seems especially drawn toward the carolers, the smell of pastries and drink. He licks his lips hungrily. “Yes,” he says, “Alaundo’s skills at Divination have never been surpassed.”
The dwarf rode in on the carriage, but hardly spoke at all. When forced to introduce himself,. the broad, well muscled figured with long dark hair and beard.simply muttered, "Balin"

Harmony smiled as the man in simple clothes spoke, not quite sure what he meant by her name signifying her state of being but guessed that it must be a compliment before he introduced himself and said that he adores dance and music that fulfills the soul. "Thank you Halsen. That is always good, I like to think that my songs would make people happy in their souls. How can songs about friendship, happiness, love, hope, never giving up, and things like that not be liked after all?" she said back to him, nodding happily. Then Harmony saw the half-elf with the book, hearing as he introduced himself, wondering where Candlekeep is before noticing that he was in tattered robes and shivering. He talked about how warm it is there, really wanting to find warm drink, bread, and stews. "It's very nice to meet you Abraxas. Of course, with it being Winter and snow falling, everyone should be serving warm stuff for us to have. Are you cold? Let me see what I can find." she told him before looking around inside her backpack at her regular clothes until she found what she was looking for, a white hooded cloak with pink trim. As she got it out, she saw the man with cool-looking clothes come over and introduce himself, asking Abraxas about if he knows of a writer named Alaundro. Then she watched as he made an overhead view of the festival, then Waterdeep, the Sword Coast, and even the planet and space before it disintegrated. "Oh wow, that is so cool! If that's still in progress, I can't wait to see it completely done then Jove." Harmony clapped and grinned at the display she had seen. She now saw as the dwarf with a beard finally said something, barely hearing him. "Balin, is that your name? Come on, speak up and be happy, it's the Midwinter Gala! We're here to have fun after all." Harmony exclaimed in a cutesy voice, grinning and trying to cheer him up. Just now she realized that Abraxas was getting out of the carriage, remembering the cloak in her hands before racing out of the carriage, stepping onto the street gracefully and over to him. "Thank you. Here you go, you can borrow this until the Midwinter Gala is over or you feel like leaving, okay? Just don't go running off with it on me, okay?" She had said to Abraxas with an innocent playful smile as she handed him the cloak so that he may be warm and not shivering all the time while he's here. She could see the red tents and hear all the carolers, wanting to go join in on all of this fun that is happening right now.
Laughter and conversation can be heard from all around these two streets, but much of it is emanating from one merchant's tent, advertising mulled wine and ale. Exotic music can be heard from another tent down the street, and the smell of delicious pastries draws your attention to a third merchant. Two other merchants advertise knitwear and stationary outside of their tents.
As Jove emerges from the carriage, he looks up the skies. He rolls up his sleeve and quicky adds the current constellations to his arm, already filled with crude drawings of things many of you don't understand.
Jove's first inclination is to go to look at stationary. However, at his first step his stomach growls. He looks to his new companions and sees that Mr. Onassis seems hungry. Food seems like a good choice.
"I think we should go to dinner so we can properly experience this festival before our destruction!"
“Thank you, Harmony,” Abraxas says, but before taking the white cloak she offers, he pulls his hand back into his sleeve. He uses that sleeve as a sort of mitten when he takes the cloak so that no ink stains it. With the other hand, he reaches for his own hood. Once he has pulled it over his head, he puts Harmony’s pink and white cloak on right over his own. It warms his shoulders and head. “This is indeed very kind of you,” he says.
The food smells delicious and, like Jove, Abraxas steps toward the closest tent that seems like a kitchen. He thinks of warm stews crowded with vegetables, but he steps slowly, waiting, slightly, for Balin and Halsen. Dwarves, especially armored ones, can be good to have around. Waterdeep, they say, is a safe, lawful city with many libraries, but as Alaundo says, the cautious survive.
“Jove,” he says, “did you say, ‘before our destruction?’”
OOC: Jove is a conspiracy theorist who has reason to believe the world is going to end sometime soon. He has tried for a few years now to tell everyone who will hear him. The vast majority all see him as crazy (and rightfully so. A person with runes all over his clothes walking up to you and telling you the world is going to end is pretty jarring.) He has learned that there are better ways to go about telling people. Easing them into the "facts" is better than vomiting tons of conspiracies at them. But he does let some self depreciating phrases slip every once in a while. This is Jove's character being strange and usually standoffish. I as a player am not avoiding your questions. This is Jove covering where he messed up.
He stutters and says "what do you mean destruction? I said introduction. Not destruction. Let's go socialize. Haha, destruction. Anyway, excuse me. I have to blow my nose."
He fakes a sniffle and turns away. He jots a few feet away, and pulls something from his robe. You hear a large exaggerated nose blow. And then he returns. "Shall we?"
Harmony happily nodded as Abraxas thanked her before taking the cloak and putting it on before saying how kind she was. "You're welcome. Anything for a new friend after all!" she said back to him gleefully before hearing laughter and conversation coming from one tent advertising wine and ale, music that she's never head before from another tent, and smelling pastries come from another tent too. There was even stationary and knitwear being sold as well, having to decide from so many choices. Then she listened as Jove said that they should go eat dinner before they experience the festival, surprised when he mentioned destruction. "Yeah, eating sounds like a really good idea! Destruction? I would hope there isn't. A festival is going on, there's only fun and joy to be had here!" Harmony exclaimed with a innocent smile, twirling around with grace and energy. Abraxas and Halsen questioned him too when he then said that he had actually meant introduction and not destruction, now understanding as he mentioned that they should go socialize before blowing his nose. "Oh, okay. That makes more sense. Yeah, come on guys. Let's go eat and socialize with everyone!" she called out, completely believing Jove and motioning for everyone to follow her as she then followed him to the food tent. Harmony was feeling hungry right now too, wanting to have enough energy for all the fun stuff she can do here like singing and dancing for everyone.
OOC: The characters are coming to life already, great work!
"Oh, hello!" A young halfling woman bounds toward you with energy when you enter her tent. The smell of freshly baked goods is almost overwhelming. "I hope you're enjoying the Midwinter Gala! The name's Merry, folks 'round here call me Merry Merry. We have pastries, cookies and cakes, made fresh today, for only 10 copper pieces each. Made with the finest flour and raspberry, elderberry, strawberry, and blueberry. We're already fresh out of goodberry, unfortunately, but we'll have more tomorrow if that's your thing! What would you like?" she asks.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jove walks up and speaks.
"I would like to place an order for a wheel of cheese and some rice please. Also, for dinnerware, a knife and spoon."
I am sure the others look at Jove quite strangely. He quickly explains himself.
"Oh. um. It is a custom where I come from. Only eat the bare minimum, such as the rice. If it is a festivity, we can indulge ourselves in a more mature fashion, which is why I chose the cheese." He turns back to Merry Merry, and says in a largely fancy voice. "Make it the finest cheese you have in stock. And a spoon for all of my friends." He then bows. He leans in and whispers to the lady. "Actually not the finest cheese. I'm not made of money, ya'know."
I don't know if you would require some sort of Charisma check for this sort of thing, as this is my first PbP, but just in case, a Cha check with no proficiency: 23.
"Hmm.” Abraxas considers the pastries. Blueberry tart! And right from the oven. He happily gives Merry Merry one of his silver pieces and waits for his change.
Jove is certainly interesting. He’s not describing any customs Abraxas is familiar with, but the world is a large place.
“Tell me, Merry Merry. Are there books for sell at the festival? What’s the most interesting thing you’ve seen here? The oddest?”
“An elderberry pastry please. My dear annt used to make these when I was growing up and bring them to me as a boy. It was truly the happiest times I had. It was shortly after that mother and father started pushing me toward the monastery.

He turns back to Merry Merry, and says in a largely fancy voice.

Death on the Water and Baldur's Gate Bodyguard
“An elderberry pastry please. My dear annt used to make these when I was growing up and bring them to me as a boy. It was truly the happiest times I had. It was shortly after that mother and father started pushing me toward the monastery.
