Jove looks up to Harmony as well as the others looking at him a bit strangely. "Oh, see here. I must've gotten carried away. Here let me explain." He walks outside under the stars, but thanks the half-elf for his new toy.
He then points to various spots and runes that have been written on himself. "These are different wards from great elder evils. This one here is Nihal." He points to a constellation, that quite frankly looks just like some random stars. "You can see he is a serpent. He moves around while you aren't looking. Watch." He covers his eyes, waits a few seconds, then removes them in a peek-a-boo type of way. "See that! I caught him. Just for a second." He then stamps over it, so the loops of the "infinity sign" connect his rune to another.
"And just there I connected him to Acamar. He always zips and travels around, so it will be hard for Nihal to catch me now." He turns to his new companions. "Oh how stingy of me. Would anyone else like some warding? We are about to head to that concert, right? Better to be safe than sorry!" He offers out his stamp for anyone to be "warded".
"I am Pavel. You're welcome, but that's just my job today," the half-elf offers to Harmony before the party leaves his tent.
The streets look emptier when you step outside of Pavel's tent, but you quickly realize that the crowd has simply moved. It seems that half of the street is gathered around the tent advertising mulled wine and ale, and the other half has shifted toward the Cassalanter Villa, anxiously awaiting the opening of its gates. While light still emerges from the other merchant tents, advertising knitwear and instruments, the crowd around them has grown sparse.
Harmony had heard the half elf give his name, Pavel as she nodded and waved him goodbye before following Jove outside. She listened as he explained that the marks on him are different wards from great elder evils, pointing to one that is called Nihal. She just saw some stars as he said that it's a serpent that moves around while you aren't looking and to watch. So she tried to focus, watching it as he closed his eyes for a few seconds before opening them, claiming to have caught him for a second. "Really? Wow, that is pretty cool!" Harmony said back happily, believing him even though she hadn't seen anything but figured that he must be right. She saw as he stamped over it, saying that he connected him to Acamar, zipping and traveling around so it'll be hard for Nihal to catch him now. "Oh, okay. That sounds like a good thing then." she had said, going along with him even though she doesn't really understand at all. But then he asked if anyone wanted some warding since they're about to go to the concert, being safe than sorry as she shook her head. "No thank you. I don't think those wards would match with my costume. Besides, it's a concert so nothing bad should happen at all." Harmony exclaimed with a smile, thinking that it would be really unlikely anything bad would happen during the concert, especially with how the City Watch keeps an eye on everything. Then she looked over at Balin, hearing Halsen questioning him as she agreed. "Balin, have some fun! We're going to a concert, surely you will enjoy that!" she cheerfully said as she then looked around. The streets are emptier than they were before, half the people going to the ale and wine tent while the other half are at the Villa, waiting for the gate to open up. "Come on everyone, let's get to the concert quick before all the good spots get taken! I want to be right up front so I can see and hear Aria when she sings." Harmony then said to everyone with a cheerful glee, like an eager child before leading the way, skipping and twirling as she did so. She was readying herself to quickly make her way through the crowd once the gates open so that she may get to the front and save spots for her and her friends.
Abraxas listens closely to Pavel’s description of things the Waterdeep City Watch might say. Good to know. Following the others, he walks back out onto the street toward the Aria’s concert.
The sun is beginning to lower in the sky, and a cheer erupts from the crowd near the Cassalanter Villa. The doors of the villa open, flooding light and warmth out onto the street.
An aging male tiefling steps out of the villa, sounding off on a trumpet. The gates open as the trumpet peals, and the crowd begins to excitedly but calmly follow the tiefling into the building.
"Okay guys. I think I know a way we can get front row seats to the concert. But I need some help. I can use my magic to create a fake Aira. Now, the illusion won't be able to sing or speak or make any noise at all. I can make it so it looks like Aria is surrounded by body guards, and in a hood so she looks like she is trying to be covert. Now here is where you come in, someone could yell super loud "HEY! IS THAT ARIA OVER THERE?". The crowd will go crazy with autographs and stuff, and I can run the illusion around the corner. The crowd will follow, allowing us to get some front row seats.
Just a little harmless deception. What do you guys say?"
OOC: And if the gang says yes, Jove would like to give some words of encouragement and use his bardic inspiration on whoever is throwing their voice.
Harmony watched as the doors of the Villa opened, seeing an old male tiefling step out and play the trumpet. The gates were opening as everyone was now following the tiefling into the building, going along and thinking that she could still make her way to the front. But then she heard Jove's idea, thinking about it before quickly shaking her head. "I don't know. That could get us into trouble with the City Watch, it may even not work and they would know it was us. I can make it to the front and save some spots though." she said back to Jove, not wanting to ruin her time at the Midwinter Gala by causing trouble after all. Then she had heard Balin apologize, but glad to hear that he would try to enjoy the concert as she smiled. For now, Harmony focused on following the tiefling inside and getting to the front row seats as quickly as possible.
"I think Harmony is right, Jove," Abraxas says. "I've heard casting spells is illegal in Waterdeep. Or something like that. Unless we talk to the Blackstaff, first?" Abraxas had thought of stepping through the mists to get in front of the crowd, but feels best about not doing that.
He hopes the concert is interesting and moves forward with the others toward the front row.
"Yeah, of course. Not like it mattered anyway. Dumb idea. Haha." Jove, a bit defeated, follows the others to the concert. He seems to just want to prove himself to what he considers his new friends.
"So Abraxas, you seem well versed in the realms from afar. Have you heard of the Sundering that caused the spellplague? Do you think something like that could happen at any time? Gods are awfully powerful after all. They seem to not have any real devotion to all of us like we do to them. Like many of us pledge to them, giving them offerings, asking them for guidance, and very few get an answer, even less are given access to a bit of their power. Don't get me wrong, I really am devote to a few gods of my own, and really appreciate what they do sometimes. But it is just strange to me how un-involved they are with us. Like what is stopping them from cutting our connection to the weave or something? Maybe in retaliation for a few rogue wizards that crave too much power. Or maybe we would be collateral damage in a great war they all have with each other, or maybe even some crazy being from another realm!" He pauses for a second.
"Sorry. That was um... an excerpt from a play that I am working on. What I was asking is, do you know of the Sundering? I was hoping to talk to someone about it for research for my play of course."
The party continues to converse as they follow the crowd into the gorgeous entryway of the Cassalanter Villa, and up a flight of stairs into a grand ballroom on the second floor. Four guards flank the front door, two on each side of the interior, shouting at a few festival-goers who are a little too unruly trying to get to the front of the line.
Inside the ballroom, the crowd ahead of you fills the first third of the seating, leaving you a fairly good view of the large stage, where a dais has been constructed next to a beautiful harpsichord. A noble human couple, dressed in opulent winter finery, smile warmly at the crowd while two young twin children squirm in their freshly starched holiday clothes. The villa is well fortified for an event of this size, as you can see an another six guards posted around the perimeter of the ballroom. In addition to these private guards, a decorated captain of the City Watch is also on hand with two guards of his command.
The doors of the ballroom remain open after the crowd files in, allowing stragglers to trickle in and fill the last remaining seats. Conversation buzzes around you, mostly in anticipation of this famous bard.
“Well Jove,” Abraxas says, taking a seat in about the middle of the ballroom, “the First Sundering took place thousands of years after the establishment of the elven nations.” Abraxas sets his book bag on the two seats to his right. He carefully places Harmony’s cloak on the two seats to his left, saving places for his new acquaintances. “The Spellplague, when Cyric and Shar murdered the goddess of magic Mystra and the worlds were mixed, shuffled, if you will, lead to the Second Sundering, about a hundred years later when the god of murder was reborn in Baldur’s Gate.” Abraxas remembers his father and mother reading about these events. Books on the breakfast table. He and his sister asking questions and being answered so patiently. The smell of the bright oranges they shared. All before his father’s turn to vile darkness.
“But let’s think about happier things,” he says. “Let’s enjoy this great bard and her powerful music. There is more to the world than its dark history. There must be! There must!”
Harmony was surprised, hearing from Abraxas that casting spells here in Waterdeep is illegal, very glad to know that now. She heard as Jove was asking Abraxas about the Sundering and the Gods, not really having a clue to say since she didn't really know about any of that at all. She followed the crowd, amazed as they walked into the ballroom before the crowd filled the first third of the seating, but still able to see the stage thankfully. She made her way through the crowd, seeing that Abraxas managed to beat her as he saved spots for them all. "You were fast. Thank you for saving us spots Abraxas!" Harmony had said happily as she moved his book bag and sat to the right of him, the other spots still saved and waiting for everyone else to sit down, hearing Abraxas talk about that Sundering before saying that they should think about happier things and enjoy the bard and her music. "Yes, most definitely! We should always think positive and be happy! I can't wait to hear her music." she then cheerfully said back with a smile, very eager to hear Aria and learn from a professional.
"Welcome, citizens of Waterdeep and visitors to our fair city," a hush falls over the crowd as the woman on stage begins to address them. "I am Ammalia Cassalanter. On behalf of my husband Victoro, and our children Terenzio and Elzerina, we warmly welcome you to the Cassalanter Villa for tonight's performance. We hope you enjoy the rest of the Midwinter Gala, but first, without further ado, we are proud to present to you the famed aasimar bard, Aria Cavatina," she bows, returning to her family at the side of the stage, shaking hands with Aria as she emerges to the front of the stage.
Aria is beautiful and statuesque, with vivid red hair that contrasts her silvery-white skin. When she sings, her eyes glow a mesmerizing sapphire and shimmering wings sprout from her back. Her soprano voice and her celestial presence more than meet the expectations of a bard of her stature, and it surely must be a great honor to be hosting her.
The singer’s voice fills the room, and her radiant light follows. It is a soft, warm light that makes the Cassalanters’ décor gleam and shimmer. Her voice is bright and clear - and riveting. The crowd watches in silence; even the ornery children have gone quiet and watch, open-mouthed. Her voice reaches a crescendo of perfect pitch, and the ballroom erupts with applause at the end of her opening number.
Aria soaks in the applause for a moment, then extends her arms, heralding the start of another song. Suddenly, she stumbles forward...and lets out a blood-curdling scream.
Before the song starts and our party takes our seats, Jove makes a point to sit by Balin. He admires his aloofness. "Yeah... pretty lame right? All this just for some music." Be looks around to make sure nobody is listening. He pulls out a bell from his robes. "Yeah. Don't mean to brag. I can lay down some mad jams on this thing."
As the show begins he quiets down. Waits a bit. The song ends. And Jove goes crazy. He stands and screams and claps and woos more than the rest of the group combines (besides maybe Harmony, as she seems pretty stoked).
He doesn't really seem to grasp the whole collapsing thing. He thinks it is part of the show. He is like "Oh yeah! Look at that! Oh man this show is a killer! Haha! WOO! Woohoo! Woo.... oh. Oh no" then he realizes that he is the only one cheering. He clears his throat and sits back down. He is very embarrassed that he doesn't understand how to act at the moment.
