A few other soldiers and sailors spin around to look at the source of the roaring. Seeing Saryn doubled over in laughter, most ignore it and return to their business. A few others find it annoying, while the captain herself lets out a hearty laugh from the stern of the ship. "Well done, little one! If you can roar that loud, we'll have nothing to fear on Rotona!"
[On the squad tactics question: It will be you four in combat, amidst a greater army skirmish, if that makes sense. You'll have an encounter scaled for your level to serve as your particular "chunk" of combat. As you level up and gain greater ranks in the army, you may be awarded command of units, which will change up combat a bit (rules are still under way for renown system and mass combat- I'm looking over the Unearthed Arcana PDFs for it and deciding what works and what doesn't). But for now, it will just be you four and anyone else who joins the group.]
DUELING RULES (if you need them ever)
Treat combat as normal. First one to half health loses, or if you want another agreed upon parameter (first blood, first to 1 HP, first to unconsciousness), that also works. Pretty simple.
Dominique talks some more about fighting formations and for a short bit they debate the pros and cons of teamwork and independent combat. Then he notices Saryn truly struggling to keep focused despite her best efforts and decides to cut things short for now.
So, still feel up for that sparring Saryn? He draws his blade and walks to a clear area on the deck while wording a quick enchantment to get his courage going (heroism) remember, were not trying to murder one another, just showing who's topdog. (for simplicity let's take the down to 1hp rules, but flavoring it up as "bruising and battering" cuz it really is just a training exercize)

Saryn's glazed over look disappears immediately. Where her focus before would drift and wander it now was locked solely on Dom. She starts to reach for the battleaxe and then stops. Seeing him head for the clearing she follows suite keeping her eyes locked on him the whole way. As he starts to mutter an incantation she squares up to him, about 10 feet from wherever he stops, and takes a defensive stance. (Dodge action)
"You talk well enough light foot. Now lets see if you can back it up."
Dom steps back and the swipe falls short. He immediately slashes back, trying to hook the curve of the axes.
Attack: 10 Damage: 11
But the thin blade glances off harmlessly. This is the weirdest match up I've sparred with in all of my fencing classes. It's like I'm fighting a frenzied badger(end of turn)
(8/10 hp) AyoehA!Dominique howls You are raving mad! He grabs at what ever is within arms reach and finds a burlap sack. Franticly he begins batting at the ankle gnarler to let go of his leg. Attack: 23 Damage: 3
(14/15 hp) "Better to stick with the sword, its what you know. Let me show you what I know."
Now Saryn grabs the axe from her back(BA). From her hunched position at your legs she drives the axe upward, with both hands, in to your jaw. Using her lowered position to extend her whole body behind the blow.
Dominique reads the gnomes intentions and easily steps out of the way. As Saryn sails by he mows the air with the back of the hand guard.
Attack: 25 Damage: 14
As the warlady flies by, the hand guard strikes her full in her backside, increasing her momentum even further and causing her to sail across the ships deck, untill inevitably she reconnects with the woodwork. The timber groans under the weight of the impact. Too rash miss Saryn, too rash.

(7/15 HP Sorry I looked at yours for some reason instead of my own.)
Saryn shakes her head. I'll show you rash Dom. She charges back swinging the axe at his hip twisting it at the last moment to strike with the flat of the blade.
Attack: 17 Damage: 15
As her attack swings wide the axe slips from her grip clattering to the deck a few feet away.
At this the dastardly dualist dashes forward and swoops up the axe. In two steps he is standing on the railing, hanging over the crashing waves. As the axe dangles in the air he triophantly sneers at Saryn.

The joy and laughter that showed on Saryn's face is replaced with intense anger. RRaaaggghhh! She runs Jumping up at grabing not for the axe but for Dom trying to drag him with her over the edge and into the water.

To late Dom realizes he underestimated this kids ferosiousness. He tries to swing to safety but he is way to slow. As the little warlady canonballs into him, both get slammed over the boarding. With a big white foamy plume they crash into the cold unforgiving waves. Dom desperately tries to get his head back above the water.

When Dom realizes the gnome is fighting for the axe, he istantly slams it into the ships bowl to give her something to grab onto. 18 But the dancing in the water is so alien to him that the axe glances of without so much as a scratch. He then just offers it back to Saryn and prays to the full pantheon she ain't going to decapitate him in her frenzy. How he would want to scream right now but alas, he is forced to hold his breath and hope it won't be his last.

Mad! He thinks to himself She's raving mad!
Once they start to fall over Saryn shifts her attention to try to grab the axe.
(Probably need DM input at this point. Boy that escalated quickly.)
