Graxx and Neya step up and attempt to tumble the statue. Neya nudges her crowbar under the heavy object and puts all her weight on it, Graxx jams his fingers in the gap the monk created under the statue and begins to help, but the object turns out to be much heavier than expected. Neya's crowbar slips and Graxx reacts by removing his hands from under it just then. The tips of his fingers still get a bit bruised (Graxx takes 4bludgeoning damage).
Utar daydreams for a second, recognizing that the dagger's markings are distinctly Orcish in both design and small details. He also recognizes the symbology of the tribes that reside near the Dragonspine Mountains to the west of Phlan. The mountains are populated by red and white dragons while goblins, orcs and other inhuman creatures dwell in the lowlands and valleys.
Seeing the failed attempts, Praxx apologizes somewhat: "Well, since it doesn't look like we'll be able to break it like this, It 'd suggest I give it a try at consecrating it with Lesser Restoration. It is the best I can do in terms of divine inspiration, and I'd venture a guess that these types of demons are bound not to like that... Unfortunately, I'm all tapped out of arcane juice right now, so that attempt would have to wait until the morrow."
Graxx puts his fingers in his mouth sucking them for a moment.
"I'm not sure what else we can do here."
Graxx runs his hand across his brow.
"I am a bit light headed.(7/35 HP). Perhaps if we rested and I had my strength back I could attack this object with divine energy? I just feel like we're missing something."
The dull ache across Utar's shoulders reminds him that taking a break might not actually be all that bad.
"We've been through a lot and this thing is apparently immune to smashing. Coming at this another way might be best, especially if the taint of this thing could be removed, then we wouldn't have to be so...smashy with it."
Praxx smirks a bit, a sight that has been quite uncommon over the last hour or so: "I can't wait to go back to that manor and sleep for many hours. We'll come back here in the morning and try something else. My Lesser Restoration offer is still in place."
Drazzim disagrees: "Manor? I wouldn't trust the dead bodies nearby that statue overnight. I say we camp right here. Perhaps in that reliquary you guys mentioned. We have all the supplies we need to build camp. The manor will be waiting for us once we are completely done here."
"To be honest, we've taken out the greatest threat down here in the form of Grim and his men. I scarcely think that any undead the statue raises would be any worse. However, we should bring up the body of my compatriot. In my clan, it's very rare that bodies are recovered. We usually just declare them dead after a tenday with no contact."
"Utar, was there any mention of what happened to her when you were talking to that fellow? I seem to remember Grim mentioning her at one point, regarding her as a spy."
Drazzim sighs in frustration: "That's three votes for the manor already.... FIne. Let's go."
Praxx and Drazzim share the load of carrying the three burlap sacks worth of treasure out of the cave. The gnome concludes: "I guess the three of you will need to figure out how the carry Neya's compatriot's body then..."
Utar spends some time collecting the broken off tentacles he hammered out of the statue. They had fallen into the dark pool of water, but with time to spare, he can find them one by one.
The floor is slicker than before. The blood of all the dead has mixed with the layer of mud and the humidity all around. It's is quite disgusting. Harae's breeze is not in your immediate vicinity anymore.
(OOC: Anything you'd like to do in these chambers before you leave? How are you carrying the dead agent? How are you overcoming the sinkhole? How about the magical stone slab blocking passage in and out of the subterranean temple?)
Graxx will pick up the dead agent and carry her out.
"Remember. Even once we are done with this idol we have unfinished business. There is the Black Fist guard Nalek that bit the boy and turned him into a Wererat. We need to find a way to kill Wererats and kill that one."
"While I do agree we need to find a way to even harm such creatures, I do believe we don't need to worry about that one. I seem to remember a gnawed-on head of a humanoid rat being dredged up from that sinkhole not too long ago."
Utar nods, "That could have been Nalek, I would think Grim is the type to bring all his men with him for this. But will check once we're topside and rested."
Turning to Neya he adds, "Elias only mentioned that she was uncovered as a spy. Once that happened I think Grim was only going to end that one way. If she was down here to destroy that statue he was so intent on selling..."
(OOC: This post follows what you have posted both here and in the OOC chat. Let me know if the plan changed and I can edit this post.)
After some discussion, Graxx leads the group out of the temple. The large human warrior picks up the body of Neya's compatriot upon her request, carrying her on his shoulder without much difficulty. Upon reaching the sinkhole, Graxx does not think too much about it. He decides to brave through it as he and most of the group did before. Though whatever was inside the hole that was sharp is still there (Graxx takes another 3piercing damage), he makes to the other side of the room successfully, body on shoulder and all.
(@Grx: I used your preemptive d20 roll as an athletics check to brave through the sinkhole.)
Drazzim follows the barbarian's suite, while Praxx tries to shimmy across the ledge:
-> Drazzim's athletics check: 8 - the dwarf struggles this time, getting repeatedly damaged by whatever had also pricked Graxx (Drazzim takes 8piercing damage). Eventually, the dwarf manages to pull himself up to the ledge on the other side, breathing very heavily.
-> Praxx's acrobatics check: 22 - the gnome takes his time and manages to arrive on the other side unharmed.
(Neya and Utar still need to get across. Neya did not need to use her rope to make the body into a backpack.)
Utar decides to take the same route as Graxx and Drazzim before him. The cleric submerges into the sinkhole, gets pricked for 2piercing damage, but otherwise succeeds in emerging on the other side.
Neya tries to follow Praxx instead, but her ever so reliable balance fails her this time. She splashes into the pool, taking 4piercing damage. She eventually climbs out of danger.
(@Drache: please roll an athletics check to see how long it takes for you to get out of the sinkhole. The additional damage you'll take is proportional to this time as it was in Drazzim's case above. I'll move onward below but we can apply this damage retroactively.)
I'm basing this out of OOC post: The group then moves all the way back to the entrance of this underground temple. Utar sets up the ladder and holds it firmly. Neya climbs it and places her hand on the hand-print, uttering the same magical words she did once before: TOE MONE; TOE MEGALO. After she leaves through the magically opened entrance, Graxx follows carrying the dead body, helped by Drazzim who is immediately behind sharing the load. Before the slab pops into existence again, the entire crew is out. Praxx, who is the last one out, kicks the ladder over so the party can use it again for the planned return trip.
The group walks out of the West Tower and is now out in the open. Sunset cannot be more than an hour away.
"Perhaps some leverage could help in this matter...?"
Neya retrieves her crowbar (if she hadn't already) and tries to get it under the statue enough to get enough leverage to tip it over.
