It's unclear what step three is as Strix's voice fades to almost nothing. The canopy above seems to knit a little tighter as the light dims, shadows from the underbrush leaning in to intertwine with theirs, curling up their legs like an overfamiliar cat; the air becoming heavy as if threatening a storm, muting birdsong, the rustle of leaves taking on a flat tone that drops out of the air like a wet potato. Strix's lips continue moving for a moment silently, then he adds

stealth paladin. Dekhan will stay close to the front with Talon drawn.
Strix looks down at the ring on his finger, cursing softly, and takes a position at the front beside Dekhan, his staff and tattered shirt feeling quite inadequate next to all that metal.

Stealthier than you have ever been thanks to Strix's magic, you move slowly and quietly forward, the shadows grasping at you and concealing you.
There is a short flight of steps up to the main entrance. Now you can see the doors more clearly; they are completely sundered, suggesting some great and final battle here at some point in the past. As you go, you glance up at the arrow slits, and there does seem to be movement behind one of them:
But whoever it is, they are clearly not paying attention, or perhaps it is Strix's magic that foils them, but you seem to pass unnoticed. You enter the castle.
You stand now in a wide hall, the castle's foyer. Doors stand closed to the north and south, with a crumbling mound of rubble partially obscuring the southern hall. To the east, a broad corridor ends in two more doors leading south and east. The corridor is cluttered with dusty rubble and fallen plaster from a partial collapse of the ceiling overhead which fortunately allows in a stream of light from above.

OOC : by passing through the doorway are we now below and behind whatever's manning the arrowslit or is the ceiling above us in the foyer obviously at a lower height than that slit was? Assuming the former :
Strix signals the others to remain close until they're out of sight of the entrance-way, and, hugging the wall, creeps towards the rubble obscuring the southern hall to check for any other guards.
Strix, you would guess that you are now behind, and on the same level as, whoever is manning the arrow slits.
You creep southwards and slowly peek out over the rubble. To the east you see a large banquet hall. There are two large wooden tables that fill most of the space, and at the far end, a large fire with a cookpot. This appears to serve as a kitchen, and it's absolutely filthy, with dirty plates and pots strewn here and there, and an unhealthy number of flies in the air. Standing at the cookpot is a large goblin, and he seems to be shouting orders to about seven other goblins who are running here and there, fetching things for the cookpot or moving plates around without much effect. It's utter chaos, and the goblin is a bully who thwacks his underlings again and again as they pass with his long wooden spoon.
Turning to your right, to the south you see what looks like a ruined barracks area; you definitely see some beds, and you can just about see a few sleeping goblin forms upon them, maybe fifteen or twenty feet from where you are now.
Shit! I meant the latter, not the former!Ah well, d20ius jacta est
Ok, so we have 50-odd minutes of very high sneakiness (but not invisibility) as long as Strix doesn't get hit and fail a Con save. He's not con-save proficient but he does get a +4 to the roll (vs DC 10 or DC half-damage-taken) thanks to his ring and hardy nature. I don't have enough Ki to cast it again. Since it's not invisiblity, there's nothing stopping us jumping these guys then trying to hide again afterwards as long as the spell doesn't drop. And that Chef goblin is begging to be pushed into the pot.
Sounds like the kitchen is noisy anyway, so we should get away with a kerfuffle, and arguably any noise made by anyone who was and remains within 30ft of Strix is muffled at all times since that would be a trace.... right...? Sure! Why not! Those little buggers can hide every turn though and there's a lot of crap around for them to hide behind....
So it would seem the smartest thing to do would be kill the sleeping goblins to even the odds, then worry about the guard, then the kitchen staff? Pretty sure a Chaotic Neutral can square that with himself - it might even be the first CN thing I've done all game :D - but not sure how the rest of you would fare. On that score, I need to google whether 5e has a coup de grace mechanic!
Or we could just walk past them and hope we don't get penned in later? If we can take out their leader we'd probably only need a brief show of strength (ie kill the cook) to cow the rest, so it's probably not a big deal. And if we don't kill the leader we're already dead :D
What about taking out whoever was manning the arrow slots and then coming after the kitchen staff? We could even set a little trap type situation if we draw their attention... then take care of the sleepy boys in a fashion that can somehow leave our hides and alignments intact.
I like the idea of sneaking through and killing, the sleeping goblins makes most sense I think, if we can get away with it quietly. Just to cull the numbers if we can. Incantis can also let a hex run through the goblins as long as he can maintain concentration, should help with any pot-pushing shenanigans.

Strix has really good perception, so he can see that they're quite close together; a ten-foot radius spell would probably hit them all. I would say that the spell itself is silent, but the reaction of the creatures it hits would obviously make some noise.

The main door is wide enough to enter double file, so Strix and Dekhan in front, Incantis and Scupper second, Varinth and Sildar in the back?
