As Scupper is already in the passenger seat, he mumbles something about short legs always making him a better passenger and keeps where he's at for now.
Strix rises and stretches, then takes a position ahead of the cart, squinting a little in the sunlight. The new elf smells different to the other elf. No bad thing. He makes a mental note - More sport to chase in the woods beyond, should it come to that. Eventuality and Possibility approach each-other sword-hands empty on a long enough road. And what we meet first on our road? Threat or breakfast? he wonders. Both? His stomach rumbles. Both would be nice.
No, that the animal talking.I feel soul's hunger. Belonging, Esteem, Potential. They are the hungers of a man.Though the beast yearns, the fence is high, the chain is short."The chain is short." he repeats. Now open your eyes.
OOC : I know I should let the ranger take point, and I'm not saying he can't, but Strix would walk on out ahead regardless
Perception roll 21
(BTW, since he's alert to threats, would his Passive Perception of 15 stand if I get distracted and roll badly?)

Mistweaver shares the contents of the map and letter with her new companions, offering to keep the map but not particularly interested in holding on to the letter.
"I would prefer to walk and stretch my legs a bit. It will be good to leave this city behind for a time. If you all wish, I can take point and range ahead. I've some experience as a guide, and can forage for food as I go."

Dario watches Strix and Mistweaver both aim to take lead as the cart starts to roll along toward the High Road and shrugs his shoulders. He waits for Vaz and Soodi to follow and walks along beside the camel and rider. "Hope you don't mind me keeping you company in the back," Dario says with a smile to Val.
While walking in the back Dario keeps an eye out for any mischievousness or being followed.
Asher greets the new elven companion with a simple head nod and lets out a quiet laugh at Vaz's introduction. Once the cart begins to roll, he leans back on some crates on the cart spread out like he's lying in a bed. He closes his eyes and doesn't say much. Can't believe I'm stuck doing this small town gig. I hope I don't have to go more than a day without a shower or washing my kimono. Assuming the cart ride isn't smooth, probably bumpy due to the road. Asher huffs before jumping down to walk beside the cart, unable to get comfortable. He maintains a short distance, enough to the point that no one can talk to him without going out of their way to do so, but not far enough for any to be weary of him falling behind.
"This seems like it's going to be fun," he sighs sarcastically to himself.
Lol, last I see, Scupper is in the passenger seat, Mistweaver and Strix are near the front, Dario is beside the camel, and Vaz said he's near the rear with Soodi (which I believe is the camel lol) Asher is near the back.

Vaz:
To Dario Not at all sir, glad for the company. Although I adore my Soodi to bits, she's not much for conversation.
As the cart gets underway Soodi starts a slow plod behind, apparently without any guidance by Vaz. Illustrating how much he must travel in this way, Vaz adjusts himself to be cross legged and reaches back over Soodi's hump to untangle a 6" branch that has been whittled inexpertly. With his other hand he digs in his pack and brings out a small lump of what looks like coal. He proclaims FTUMCH . A small amount of flame, cupped in his palm like a baby bird, coughs and splutters to life. He then proceeds to "rub" the flame into the wood at the top of his makeshift quarterstaff, charring it.
This will look either very threatening or altogether silly. He gives Dario a wink.
Produce Flames: 20 Damage: 4
Botched up the rolls a bit there. Not sure if I needed to roll for innocuous fiddling. If I should I'll roll again (with the right modifiers and dice) please advise. Thanks for the heads up Squigs.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tobbence, it looks like you did a straight d20 roll to hit, when you should add your spell attack modifier, additionally, the damage for produce flame is 1d8 not 1d4. Not that it's a big deal because it's just some bramble, but for future uses.
Asher's passive perception is 13, would I hear the flame spell going on behind me? If so, Asher looks back to see Vaz creating flames and hunches his eyebrows. "Not bad," he mutters under his breath. If he doesn't hear it, he continues driving the cart as normal.
I think you're fine. Like the DM said earlier, for small stuff like this we can narrate and for big deal action sequences then I'm sure accuracy would be needed.
As Vaz creates his little flame Dario nods in appreciation, but not trying to get distracted by the fire while keeping a lookout. "I guess we won't have to worry about stoking the fire tonight. Where'd you learn your trick?"

Scupper tries relax as much as possible in the passenger seat. It's easy for him to stretch out but he keeps one eye open as the cart gets off to a rocky start. He and offers his totally uneducated assistance at driving the cart while using mostly nautical terms. You'll want to keep the reigns tight to the port. Your starboard horse seems distracted. We're only doing about 9 knots by my calculations but the sea appears calm enough to bring her up to 12 knots. His desire to help is genuine even if his skill is not.
It is true he answers Dario whilst keeping his attention to the job at hand I am a human flint and tinder. I learnt this one from a terse wee halfing... I should probably contact him at some point...he trails off, looking into the middle distance. The knot at the top of the staff catches fire. This startles Vaz out of his reverie. Hiss! he states in annoyance. The flames on his hand pop from existence and he quickly pats out the flames from the wood, apparently without harm. He pauses again and looks lost in the charred lumber. Then, suddenly back to his cheerful self Well, he inspects the gnarled and smoking staff, that looks pretty nifty aye?
Asher looks to Scupper and sees that Scupper's knowledge of how to control these horses isn't exactly how he was taught to handle them, nonetheless, (I assume) the horses steady. Asher is amazed. "Aye, I've never seen someone handle horses like this. Here I was thinking that I'd be able to manage on my own. What did you say your name was, halfling? Skipper? Scally?"
Asher takes the reigns and steers the wagon the short distance to the city gate, and then out into the countryside. The gate guards are busy searching a large cart headed into the city, piled high with expensive-looking trunks and large wooden boxes; a young guardswoman waves you through then returns her attention to her fellows. Safe travels to you.
Shortly after leaving the city, Vaz sets light to his quarterstaff and frantically tries to put it out, leaving it somewhat charred. There are a few travellers about on the road as this happens, and Dario and Strix, you notice that a man and a woman, probably hunters from their clothing, notice the display, stop and have a brief but intense whispered discussion as you pass, with occasional looks at Vaz. They make no move to intercept your path of speak with Vaz, and after a short while, they resume their path towards the city.
South of Neverwinter, the road passes through farmlands, and already in the hour after dawn you can see farmers busy in the fields, preparing the ground and planting seed. There are still a few other travellers on the road, all locals you would guess. As your journey continues, the farms fall away and you’re moving through grasslands with the occasional small village set some way back from the road. There seem to be a lot of abandoned farmland and ruined buildings; though the city of Neverwinter itself has recovered a great deal from the calamities of recent years, the surrounding areas are still catching up.
Vaz:
To The Road! toasts Vaz to no one in particular.
Vaz will wait till camp this evening before introducing the beasties to each other. For the first day Soodi and I will take up the rear.

However, it's no big deal. Asher can drive.
