Not seeing anything outside Quinn turns back to the man, who is surround but Quinn new friends, and who is barely able to get a full sentence out between sobs. Hearing what has happened and see the site of the man begging for help, shakes Quinn a bit, but he steels his resolve and walks up to the rest of the group.
"Are we all in agreement that we are going to help this man?"
Quinn then turns to the man, not waiting for a response from the group, and asks.
The man's wounds have clearly been caused by some sort of blade and not an animal, and his story backs this up. A goblin attack ending with a beating and the kidnapping of his daughter. Idalie can hardly believe it, goblins attacking a blacksmith in Calla of all places, but his injuries and his obvious panic can't be denied. Quin's quick thinking and quick use of a healing spell seem to help him somewhat, as does everyone else's quick attention and as soon as Wilfred mentions that their little group are adventurers he's begging them for help. Help everyone seems more than willing to give him. Idalie takes a moment to admire their groups willingness and bravery, a moment to let a little thrill of fear and uncertainty run through her and then she's nodding in quick agreement. Flashing the wounded man her most reassuring smile. "We are. And of course we're going to help. We're going to find your daughter, I promise." Looking to the others, Idalie lifted her chin.
"If we go back to the scene of the attack I can track them from there. And we might be able to search the bodies of any of those he killed for clues too."

(Rickard, still disoriented, is distracted by the barrage of questions from the party. When it becomes clear that the party is willing to help, a smile appears for the first time.)
"Thank you! Bless you all!"
(The grateful Blacksmith goes around thanking the adventurers, alternately hugging and enthusiastically shaking the hands of the brave party who has agreed to help him. He tries to make sure to answer all of the questions he has been asked.)
"I'm sorry, I was unconscious, so as far as where they could have taken her... I haven't got a clue. We do live on the edge of town, and there are forests to the north of us, but as far as we know there's nothing there."
(He looks at you all expectantly. Willfred chimes in.)
"Nothing like this has happened around here for a long time. Last I can remember was maybe, 20, 25 years ago? Even then, I think it was more of Goblins attacking travelers up the road, not kidnapping little girls. There hasn't been any Goblin sightings around here since, that I can recall."
(The party follows Rickard to his workshop on the North edge of town. The signs of a struggle are everywhere: Broken pots litter the floor, splintered chairs and tables, etc. A goblin lays dead on the floor, a poker thus his chest. The layout of his workshop is roughly as shown:
"Well, here it is. I haven't really had a chance to look things over, I went for help as soon as I came to."
Spoiler for Idalie ONLY:
Idalie, your Ranger experience kicks in and you are automatically drawn to the tracks the goblins left. Using your Tracking skills (you automatically succeed) you are able to perceive that there were about 7 sets of tracks. 6 appear to be Goblin tracks, and 1 seems to be from a small human. The tracks seem to be going to a fence on the far northeast side of the property.
DM's Note: You are free to look around. A little note about Spoilers: When you get a spoiler, keep in mind that this is information only you know. It's up to you to convey that information to the rest of your party. If you don't tell them, they don't know.
Also, remember, if you're going to roll, the difference between Perception (I look and see...) and Investigation (I see and deduce...). You have to be specific about what you're looking at when you make an Investigation roll. You can't just say, "I Investigate the room." You have to say, for example, "I Investigate the Workbench." When you roll, make sure to add your modifiers. Look at your Character Sheet under Skills and add the number to your roll.
Sorry for the crappy Paint drawing, it's not to scale or anything, it's just meant to give you all a rough idea of how everything is set up. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I want to make sure stuff is clear for you guys.
As the party was shown the scene of the crime so to speak, brom wonders over the the broken potery and furniture to do a quick investagation to try to figure out if everything was broken because the goblins was looking for something or was it just broken in the struggle he'll let someone else with a more keen eye look over the body
Quinn looks around the room, seeing the BFG start to look round at the broken items, he then turn to go outside.
"I'm go look to see if I can find any tracks."
Quinn walks round to the north side of the blacksmiths, and looks for tracks to see where they lead and how many sets there are. (Investigation Check) 13
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nate silently walks with the party as they reach the workshop and enter the scene. He removes himself from Brom's enormous shadow and watches him look over the broken pottery. As Quinn heads outside to do some tracking, Nate wonders about his animal friends and if perhaps any animal was present for the attack or if they might've been present for any pre-attack planning outside. Even better - they might know of a location of the Goblin's hideout or home base or perhaps watched the goblins take the child there.
Assuming that one or more of his comrades would inspect the body, Nate heads outside where he thinks he will be more useful and starts to look around for any signs of wildlife. He's hoping he can see a more intelligent species such as a fox and looks around the edge of the forest for an animal.
Nate will cast Speak with Animals on the most intelligent species he can see from their location. He is specifically looking in the forest. Worst case he will cast the spell on a bird.
Stiffkick - let me know if I have to make any rolls for this spell as I am not certain! I am thinking I will use my Survival skill to actual track an animal to see if I can find one to speak with. So here is that roll:
Upon realizing that they are truly going to help him, Rickard brightens immediately. Thanking them enthusiastically as Wilfred explains that there hasn't been a goblin sighting near here in at least two decades and that there certainly haven't been any reports of goblins kidnapping children until now. Eventually however, the blacksmith is leading them back to his home. The door to which is flung open, the interior scattered with broken furniture, pottery and the body of a dead goblin. A poker sticking out of its chest. Though she takes this in at a glance, the gnome's eyes are soon drawn to the ground. Her years spent living, hunting, and surviving in the wilderness have made her quite the tracker and though the place is a mess she soon distinguishes a number of tracks littering the floor of the blacksmith's home. Some in blood, mud, others simply scuff marks in the dust of broken pottery. Turning away from the other members of her new party as they move inside, Idalie follows them. Moving slowly out through the back into the fenced in pen behind the house that is no doubt used for shoeing animals and working on larger repairs for carts and the like, the ranger traces the tracks all the way to the property's northeastern edge. Noting where the gate has been broken down and the tracks continue outwards beyond her sight. At least six of the footprints belong to goblin kin for certain. But one set, one set is human. Small, bare. Swallowing, the gnome turns to see Quin emerge from the house and come around north from the front, lifting her hand to him when he gets close enough to see her through the broken gate. Knowing the tracks aren't all that hard to see here either. The impressions in the mud at the edge of the fence clear as day to anyone who's looking.
"Looks like they left this way." She calls out. "With the girl in tow."
As Quinn steps outside and walks up to the gate he see Idalie already investigating the tracks. She shout to him what she has found.
"I'll and go let the others know. I feel that time is of the essence, and we must move quickly if we are going to be able to follow the tracks. Don't want anything happening to them before we can uses them."
Quinn goes back inside to the blacksmiths and informs the other of Idalie's findings.
"Perky has found goblin tracks outside, the girls to. Have you found anything useful?"
(After they respond)
Quinn turns to Rickard and places his hand on Rickard's shoulder whilst giving a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry Pops, everything is going to be okay. It's like Perky said we're going to find your daughter"
Omnia bringing up the rear and thinking why am i always at the back hehe takes a quick glance around at her fellow travellers and then looks into the blacksmiths hut.
Omnia head over to the workbench and decideds to investigate the bench for any clues to see as to why the goblins may have been there in the first place.
Investigation Check :- 19
Omnia suddenly hears comotion outside and goes and looks to see what is going on she see's Idalie has picked up on something
After hearing that Idalie found tracks Brom stopped investagating the broken potery and went to the body to do a quick search of anything of use or interest since his new commrads had not. As to if he finds anything he will report it to the party and make his way to where Idalie is
(Brom checks around the broken furniture and pottery, searching for clues. You can piece together that this used to be a basic chair, a water jug and a plain old pot. Nothing special about any of it that you can tell. He then goes to search the body of the dead Goblin. It has 2 pieces of silver, a rusty dagger, tattered leather armor and not much else.
Quinn walks around looking for tracks, and finds a few heading out the door and towards the gate on the North East side. You find a broken gate and can make out about 5-6 different sets of tracks that look to have been made by Goblins.
Nate walks to the edge of the gate, looking for any forest animals that may have been here. There don't seem to be any animals around at all. It's not likely many animals would venture this close to a human settlement. Nate does, however, use his excellent tracking skills to find the tracks the Goblins have left, tracking them to the broken gate.
Omnia searches thru the workbench. It seems like a regular workbench, with an anvil, a hammer and some iron rods.
Idalie is very busy, looking around and expertly finding the tracks. She informs her comrades about her findings.
Everyone seems to have reached a consensus about what happened: The struggle occurred, the child was taken and the Goblins left with her in tow towards the forest thru the broken gate.
(Sensing that you're about to head off, Rickard goes to his living quarters and comes back with a box which he puts in Nate's hands.)
"I hope that this helps you all. Please, bring my daughter back!"
(Nate looks at the box: a First Aid Kit with 2 charges. Rickards bids the party a safe journey and you all are on your way.)
Spoiler for Nate:
Through your knowledge of healing and medicine, you realize what this is. If you use a charge on an unconscious party member, they will stabilize and return with 1 HP.
(OOC: This is a homebrew thing, not an official item.)
(Using her experience as a Ranger, Idalie leads the way and her tracking ability really shines. Everyone seems to be thoroughly impressed with the young Gnome as she guides the party past some rough terrain, even finding some sweet berries for everyone to snack on, never losing the trail.
Everyone is moving forward at a good pace for several hours, but it's gotten dark. Those in the party without some sort of darkness vision light torches. Suddenly, Idalie stops and puts her hand up.)
"... ..."
(A faint rustling noise, then some squealing is heard as a sense of danger fills the air.)
"Brace yourselves everyone!"
(A pair of boars, one regular Boar and one Giant Boar, are rushing at you all full speed. Roll for initiative!)
DM's notes: Make sure to include your Initiative modifiers (Dex Modifier) on the top of your sheet when you roll. This is the first battle and a good chance to test out any of your attacks, spells or skills you may not be too familiar with. Go nuts, as you will have a chance to rest and regain anything you use.
Nate finds himself becoming closer to the party members as each moment passes as they trek through the forest. He tries his best to converse as much as possible during the walk. He feels happy and secure and is eager to find Rickard's daughter and get revenge on the band of Goblins (it's more about the revenge aspect for him).
"Guys... look at what Rickard gave us. These first aid charges might come in handy. Let's hope we don't have a need for them."
Just then, he rushes to put the kit aside as he sees the boars coming at full tilt. He wields his two daggers from their sheaths.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Once they finish poking through the wreckage at Rickard's house the party is eager to press onward. Idalie happily taking the lead as they begin to follow the tracks away from the blacksmith's, away from Calla and into the wilderness just off its northeastern edge. She's hunted here before, she knows the terrain and finds it a simple enough matter to guide her new friends through the rougher parts of the terrain. Pleased beyond measure that her skills are coming in handy and that the others seem impressed by them. Though she's not able to talk as much as she would like, she knows it's important that they keep moving so keep moving she does. Even as they press their seventh hour of travel, even as it begins to grow dark. Supplying the others with berries and encouragement when any of them seem prone to lag. Not that most of them do. Still, the gnome only pauses when a faint rustling and a trickle of unease up her spine forces her to. She's not gotten to be as good a ranger as she is by ignoring her instincts. Instincts that warn her of the boars' presence even before the creatures are squealing and charging out of the bushes. Idalie jumping back, lifting her longbow and reaching for an arrow.
