OOC: not that it matters cause he didn't hit but why opportunity attack? I wouldn't have moved out of range once in it kinda would have been circling around him, but just curious
OOC: I’ve made a mistake there. Opportunity attacks are for moving out of range not in. They’re also for moving past... but again only once you leave melee range
Ignore that attack, just me being stupid. Like I said, long day lol
OOC: I believe we should interrogate the Bugbear. No coincidence Goblins led by a Bugbear kidnapped Gundren and Sildar and then we fine more here, with the Redbrands. He might know where Gundren is.
Almost forgot, I want to try to get independent confirmation that Halia and the Town Master were down here. The Nothic was unreliable at best. Also, I want to try to get some mileage out of this Spell Slot I used. lol
Edit: Never mind. Bugbear is dead already. Glad to be done with this fight. lol

OOC: I'll be on and off again today, so just trying to move it on a bit so you guys can sort out the aftermath!
I'll roll for Brots, if he wants to change his target etc I can do that later on.
Brots steps out from behind the cover of the stone column, bow in hand. His arms shakes slightly as he aims once more at the last remaining redbrand. His fingers release the bow string and the arrow glides effortlessly across the chamber.
Brots Attack Roll: 14
The unpredictable movement of the redbrand proves to be a difficult target to hit as the arrow bounces off the wall behind him, spinning away.
Catching his breath behind the pillar, Serak says, "Thank you for bringing me back from the brink!"
He calls across the chamber to the Redbrand, casting another wave of vicious mockery, "Won't you please just die already? We've more important things to do."
Hearing a voice call out to him the redbrand simply responds, "Wuh? ... wuzzat he say" His head spins as he takes another step. The confused drunken face crunches as he searches out for the perfect words to respond, before finally accepting the bards request. Yelling out "AN'.... G'DNAYT TER YOU!" the final redbrand falls into a pile of flesh, fabric and vomit.
With the final Redbrand dealt with, Syna turns to deal with the broken bugbear, still resting quietly down the corridor. Carefully judging the power and intensity of his attack, the druid once more sends out the fury of flame against the beast.
Bugbear Dexterity Save: Fails Damage: 7
The flame roars into existence. Awakening from his slumber and finding himself in a fiery hell the bugbear screams, falling onto the floor.
OOC: You've actually both rolled the exact damage rolls to kill these guys lol. The bugbear isn't dead if you decide to save him from the fire. I won't have much with me today for maps etc but I'll have my notes so should be able to handle whatever you guys decide to do next.
XP: 210xp points each. Don't think its quite enough for most of you to level up. Brots should be able to reach level 2 though which should help.
OOC: Oh dang, dude... You haven't been using the Difficulty Modifier rules, have you? Thought we were getting less than we should be, but very noticeable here.
This was definitely classified as a Deadly encounter, giving a 2.5x multiplier to xp gains. A party of four level 2 and one level 1 characters against what we just fought would render 500xp each.
I imagine the battle against the Bugbear, wolf and 4 goblins was also Deadly for four level 1 characters. Maybe the fight in the campfire room would have been Difficult. I'd have to go back and calculate them.

OOC: Anyway, I think if we do a short rest down here and are careful, we can continue this dungeon. If we leave for 8 hours they'll have all left this place. Taking their prisoners with them.
If Beetle and Zyltris take the bottlenecks, while Syna locks them down with Create Bonfire, we are golden. Serak can attempt to give one of them Disadvantage every round while Brots shoots them.
I assume there are at least two doors on the east side of the dungeon as well. We can attempt to block one this time to avoid being flanked. We got this guys. I don't want any of these bastards getting away.
OOC: ok I get what your saying butI still think we need a long rest, honestly it's not really designed like that, this version is designed for both short and long rests, I'm sure there is nowhere written in there that if the party takes a long rest the dungeon clears out...but the Dm could make that call, I just have never had one do that yet, so in that instance I see your point.
But instead of leaving we could hold up in one of the rooms we just cleared and take watches, that is how I always did it in my tabletop group...of course there is always a chance of a wandering/random encounter then
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Serak: Glad to have the fighting finally over, Serak says, "Well fought, my friends! I'll leave out the part about most of us nearly dying when I tell the story at the Inn tonight."
After the party searches the bodies, the bard then begins disposing of the dead, dropping them down the crevasse. He then attempts to quickly hide any traces of the battle.
OOC: You’re right it ended up classified as deadly. But the new xp rules just total all the monsters xp awards and divide them equally between the party.
xp is used to calculate the difficult as well, but it’s more just to make sure you set an appropriate difficulty level for the party. There’s modifiers on that for party size but in terms of rewards I’m sure it’d still be a share of the total xp
OOC: Somebody will definitely come down here in the next 8 hours, interrupting our rest and losing us the element of surprise. They were drunk, so they probably have a bar down here. This is probably where they live.
We'd have to rest outside in the woods, but I imagine that is the first place a search party would look. Whole town just saw us killing Redbrands in the street, so anywhere in town is no good. We're looking at leaving the area for a long rest to work out right now.

OOC: its fine I will go with whatever I'm just saying these published adventures aren't written like that, they almost encourage both short and long rests and there aren't usually contingencies written in for parties....I never played this one before but I have played a lot of the Yearning Portal ones and i've never seen a situation like that arise... it's usually the opposite espically at lower levels, enter the dungeon, kills some stuff, go back rest, rinse and repeat....but yes a random encounter could occur espically the way dice have been rolling for us..
Now like I said it ultimately up to the DM and they could do what your saying
But I am also fine moving on with just a short rest we do still have 2 healing pots and Zyl has his 2nd wind ability and I still have the shield spell so we could move on and be ok so like I said it fine with me whatever we choose
OOC:I guess I am just an evil DM, but I'd never let a Long Rest fly right now. lol
If the game is designed with it in mind, I'm cool with a long rest. Thought we'd be leveling up, so that does change things too.
I think we have at least one more fight left in us though. If not for the flank, we'd have hardly taken damage. Lesson learned. Two tanks and a Bonfire can lock down three avenues of approach. We have two potions left and a lot of heart! lol
OOC: not that it matters cause he didn't hit but why opportunity attack? I wouldn't have moved out of range once in it kinda would have been circling around him, but just curious

Zyltris will attempt revenge on the Redbrand with his Morningstar. Attack: 12 Damage: 7
OOC: no big deal I was just curious so I didn't make the same mistake again....lol
OOC: Nah that’s all me. To be honest I’d been thinking that for no reason all day and kept reminding myself that it wasn’t for moving in lol.
Serak:
Catching his breath behind the pillar, Serak says, "Thank you for bringing me back from the brink!"He then says to the Redbrand, "Won't you please just die already? We've more important things to do."

Seeking revenge, Zyltris swings his morningstar in anger at the redbrand.
Attack: 12
Overcome with visions of redbrand blood, Zyltris overcooks his attack swing, missing his target and smashing his morningstar into the chamber wall.
Along the corridor a short distance away, the bugbear curled up on the cave floor, continues to snore quietly in his deep slumber.
OOC: Brots is next to attack
"Tyr I understand you left me on my own after invoking the dark powers but please let Brots arrows fly true!!!" Beetle yells out
Syna will again attack the red with Frostbite.
If he is down... It's time to roast bugbear with Create Bonfire
