Greetings. I'd like to join you if I may. I'm a D&D vet of about 35 years and have participated in a few pbp long long ago. I may need some training wheels at first, but I learn quickly.
A young kobold stumbles into the clearing. He clearly looks frightened as his eyes dart behind him, almost expecting something to come busting through the brush at any moment. In a very flat and monotone voice with almost no inflection at all he says, "Thank the gods I came across you kind folks... a'hem... I'm being chased by a gnoll warband. I think they want to turn me into a dog person or something... got any food, I'm starving?"
OOC: OK, to catch up. Jeff, yes I see your sheets, Thanks. Erik, Looks good thank you! I think I may stop recruiting for this campaign. You've got a pretty well rounded group and especially for the new folks there may be a learning curve and needing to explain things so I don't want too big of a group. We'll see how it goes.
Geisterfalle, I'm fine with a Kobold in the party. What Kobold version are you using as your base?
A couple quick things for everyone. Make sure you're familiar with the dice roller. It's the icon all the way to the right in the reply window. Make sure to add in (or subtract) your modifier to any checks you make on that particular skill. When you are attacking roll to hit and roll damage in the same post. Unless you are positive you missed. This will save a little time. Once an encounter starts it should become obvious pretty quick what's needed to hit.
One other thing. Each of you decide on something specific about yourself that will be a character trait. Something that makes you, you. It could be something like you carry around a carved wooden horse that was gift from your dead uncle, or you're a compulsive liar. It's up to you. It will help enrich your character and using that trait in roleplay may have it's advantages. If it's something you'd like the group to know about post it here. If you want it kept private, message me the trait.
Parth squares off to the fire, legs planted firmly, shoulder length apart and glares over all who have gathered. The yellow and red flickering of the firelight casts eerie shadows over his bulging eyes and scarred face, giving him a slightly maniacal look.
Belialuin, You've been by the fire the longest, looking at Parth and you notice that there's something not quiet right about him. Give me a perception check. (that's going to be d20 +2 for you)
As Parth starts a little rant about how his reputaion proceeds him for having so many eager young adventurers he notices a small Kobold running up to the fire.
"Ahh, little one. Gnolls you say. A warband even. Heh, heh, heh. That would indeed be something worth investigating, but have no fear. Parths Adventurer Camp is well fortified. I doubt they would make in." Eying Wormsquint sideways he says "Which brings up a small point. How did you make it in?"
"Gnolls....." Mysti says... "I have run into a few on the way here, nasty creatures and no friends of mine. I have no problem riding this plane of them."
Parth holds up a gnarled sausage of a finger in Zarbofs general direction.
"Just a moment young dwarf. You've been expected and we will all have a chance to get to know one another but I am truly curious to hear more of these gnolls."
"Hmm, Mysti, is that so. Perhaps the little one is correct then. I'll send someone to investigate."
He nods off to the side and a lanky human seems to materialize from the shadows to stand at Parths side. They exchange a few mumbled words and the human jogs off.
Ooc: Just a heads up that because of the nature of PbP there are going to be some things that may seem out of order or happening simultaneously. I'm not trying to confuse people. I feel it has to be this way to keep things moving and address everyone. There will be times that we will have to wait on folks, especially in encounters. But for story, or background stuff I will try to keep it moving. Hope that's ok with everyone.
OOC: are we going to create a campaign tab for this so we can link the character sheets there and keep important notes there or not going to get the carried away. I find it makes it easier to keep things organized a bit.

While we're waiting for some folks to catch up I'll give you some details of the area.
Parths adventurer camp is situated between "3 Roads Town" and the "Red Rapids River". Some of you may have come through 3 Roads Town to get to the camp and know it's about a days walk away. It's known, by most, that the river flows from the mountains in the far north. There are several local names for the mountains but the name most commonly heard is The Dragons Teeth. Nestled in the foothills of the Dragons Teeth is the largest city any of you have ever heard of. Redwolf Hold.
The area that you're in around 3 Roads Town is nestled in the "Y" of the river with the other branch to the north. This area used to be more influential. Not too long ago a town nearby, Galaderal, had been a booming lumbering town and exported lumber all through the region. Since it's recent deforestation, Galaderal has become a hotbed of outlaws and lawlessness. There have been rumors of raiding parties getting close to 3 Roads Town. There's also rumors that the innkeeper is on the takeand trades information to the raiders to keep the town safe.
A sorcerer in black robes approaches Parth and says in a strong deep voice.
"Greetings Commander. I hear there's unrest in the area which used to be a forest. Surely the help of a sorcerer would be needed for a little..... let's say cleanup in the area".
The sorcerer smirks in the face of a new adventure.
"Yes, yes, well met Balialuin. Sorcerers are almost always good to have around for... cleanup, as you say"
He gives you what passes for a smile for on his gnarled face and mumbles something about "except that arrogant ass who was always setting everything on fire, that jerk still owes me a cart"
Belialuin, You've been by the fire the longest, looking at Parth and you notice that there's something not quiet right about him. Give me a perception check. (that's going to be d20 +2 for you. Use the little dice icon all the way to right on the reply window)
OOC: OK, that didn't work right. No worries. When you click on the dice icon in the window that pops up you can leave it on basic, number of dice 1, Die type D20, Add to result 2, leave the rest and roll that again. It will be a number between 3 and 23. As with most rolls in this game the higher the better.
Ok. Nice. So in your studying of the arcane you've come across some references to some less than savory magical practices. Some of these studies included conditions of the mind and insanity.
You can see in Parth some signs of mental instability. He exhibits some tell tale twitches that lead you to believe he may be a bit insane. you also notice he keeps inadvertently putting his hand on a small pouch tied right next to his sword hilt.

A dwarf jogs up, late, panting and out of breath, muttering something about "natural sprinters" to himself.
"Apologies for my tardiness. Room for another little one?"

I try to ask him about it. If he refuses initially I would persuade him or use deception.
"It seems something's bothering you, Commander. I see disturbances in your soul. Care to tell us what's in that pouch and a bit more about yourself?"
Ok. Give me a persuasion check.
