Rodrik has been standing watching and listening to this exchange. "You guys are..." he hesitates, "interesting. It's getting late though." Sure enough you notice that the sun is starting to set. "Have you found lodging in town yet? I can recommend the Ramblehouse? It's a boarding house over there a way. A lot of the guard stay there as well as myself."
You notice behind Rodrik is standing a young man who looks a lot like Rodrik. Rodrik indicates him, "Forgive me my new friends, this is my brother Kurst." Kurst just kinda nods and looks at his feet.
"I'll see to it that rooms are secured for you, in the morning I'd like to talk to you about perhaps either joining the militia or at least helping out from time to time. You look like you can handle yourself."
//You have an hour or two before the sun goes down, the celebration is still going on. Feel free to explore the town, ask questions, etc.//
Having paid for the goblin’s food, Mozu looms behind him, “Dwelling places, yes. I suggest we find somewhere private, goblin. I have questions for you.”

Rodrik grins finding the goblin intriguing. "They also have baths, After a hard day there is nothing like a hot bath to wash away the days aches and pains." He sighs, "Now though you must excuse my brother and I, we have some work to get done before we retire."
“Bath, suppose I should probably take one myself,” says Curascious, absently sniffing his armpit and then making a face. “Don’t remember the last time I had one! You know how it is. Busy, busy.”
"I don't have any enemies 'ere so why would i take a bath" he wonders aloud
Examining himself, and deciding a bath would do him well, Mozu glares at the goblin, “You know that you would get more food if you looked presentable. It is how the humans and their ilk work. A bath could help you.”

"Thank you for the accommodations, Mr. Rodrik - it is incredibly kind of you," Herd replies.
// Insight check for motives beyond Rodrik trying to bribe us to join this 'militia' - 14 //
"However, before heading to the Ramblehouse, I think I could use a walk."
As he walks about town, he takes note of defensible positions and choke points, the movement of people. He tries tracking the things one would expect to in order to defend the town - old habits die hard.
//Rodrik is a nice guy, he is a little leary about some of you, nothing major, more just general precautions about strangers in town.
As for the town, it is decently fortified. They built wooden palisades and ramparts, surrounding the defenses with pits and stakes, and defended the walls of their town with great ferocity. The orc invaders eventually gave up besieging the town and simply started circumventing it. Those few orcs who trade with the inhabitants began naming the settlement Manhome.
Since the invaders gave up the town is still plagued by raiding parties occasionally and outside of town can be downright dangerous. You notice everyone in town has one of these hope knives. Including your gnome friend.
The commons where the celebration is centered you notice is actually a training area. Training dummies and rows of training weapons line the sides.
Trunau's palisade surrounds the lower part of the small town of Trunau in the Hold of Belkzen. It is a deadly and lasting construction made of ten-foot-high tree trunks, fitted tightly, their tops sharpened and their bases driven another five feet into the earth. The bottom half of the palisade is encased in a rough and sturdy stone wall. Trenches filled with smaller spikes create a deadly briar patch and incorporated into the palisade are many rock outcroppings forming the bases for wooden watchtowers. Trunau's palisade is the most immediately recognizable feature of the town.
Red finds no bounty notices, but does see a guard presence about.
Being a bounty hunter he notices that crime here must not be too bad. Other than battlements the town doesn't have a lot of things like bars on the windows, private guards about or other signs of a high crime rate.
Herd, noting all the defensive battlements wonders aloud, "This town is well defended. A far cry from where I woke up."
He asks a friendly looking person (insight to find one? 21) about the history of the hope knives, given that every one has one.
He asks anyone in the training area if he could take a few swings at the training dummies.
Then, calls it a night to the Ramblehouse so that he can clean himself up from the accumulated filth of traveling, apply some grease to any squeaky joints, and uses his tinkers' tools to tools to give himself a once over to ensure full functionality, i.e., his nightly routine.
After that, if there's anyone in the main room, he'll try and make polite chat, otherwise he sits quietly for a while before returning to his room with a "sigh."
//Remember Curascious Flumplestump is from Trunau and would know.//
You ask a nice lady selling juice at a small stand. "Oh hope knives are very important. The land surrounding us is full of some tribes of orcs. They want us gone. They invade and attack us. They used to do it a lot more. The hope knife is given to each child when they turn 12. If they get caught or are about to, they each know what to do with it."
"If i ain't bathin in the blood of me enemies what's da point?" Tith asks as he follows Mozu
Mozu sighs, “The body is just as much a weapon as your axe. If we were back in Tz’Arrm, you’d be forcibly groomed in preparation for battle. This will be a more pleasant experience overall. Come.” Mozu also spares a glance over to the robot, “You, Herd, you shall come and be free of your armor. I respect your diligence, but you must rest. Come.” Mozu will then begin walking without waiting. To the Ramblehouse!
