You begin to make your way into the Market Ward. As you walk through the crowded streets you see that the Market Ward holds the Red Bazaar. The shops all appear to deal in everyday needs: locally produced meat, vegetables, tropical fruit, tej, light tropical clothing, insect repellent, rain catchers, and other household goods. The buyers and sellers in the Red Bazaar are predominantly locals. Merchants call to you trying to sell you their goods. Ransyl does not see any blacksmith's, armorers or enchanter's shops.
You notice that the city’s defensive walls and towers are topped with colorful awnings to shield guards from the sun and rain. All of the streets within the city walls are paved with cobblestones or flagstones, and they have deep rain gutters as much as 2 feet wide. Walls divide the city into districts, and the open archways above the streets are painted with murals of dinosaurs, mountains, and mythic heroes. Crumbling ancient buildings covered with vines and lichens indicate the city’s great age.
The ground floors of most buildings are made of stucco-covered stone and have tiny windows to keep out the heat at street level. The upper floors have bamboo or thatch walls with enormous windows to let in the breeze, under broad thatched or tiled eaves. All buildings are richly decorated with paint, ivy, and vivid flowers. Some are painted in symmetrical, geometric patterns of straight lines and sharp angles, while others portray animals, monsters, landscapes, and heroes in a stylized manner unique to Chult. Where space permits, buildings traditionally include a walled yard or garden.
A few quick questions to locals and you find yourself at Kaya’s House of Repose. The area is a bit quieter and the inn much nicer than The Thundering Lizard which you passed on the way. The raucous clientele of The Thundering Lizard could be heard as you passed by.
Inside you make your way to the bar and find Kaya, a striking woman with dark hair and skin. Looking around you see a bulletin board with several notes on it. A number of guests of more than a few races are seated at tables or the bar.
"Greetings travelers! The House of Repose is here to serve you. Beds are 1 gp a night and include meals while you stay here. What brings you to the Port? You are clearly new to the city, we don't see many with heavy armor."
You realize as you walked to the inn that you did not see anyone wearing heavy armor. Most wore lighter clothes, some with leather armor. The heat of the day is rising and those of the group in heavy armor noticed it the most.
"Ah, yes. Any suggestions to keep me from becoming a walking oven? Besides losing the chainmail...unless you can score us some mithral armor? As for rooms, what meals do you serve? And are the rooms private for that price? This is a very nice establishment, but a gold piece a night seems rather...exotic." he says half-jokingly.
"Mithral armor? Try the Grand Souk in the Merchant Ward. The merchant prince Zhanthi controls the sale of armor. And yes the rooms are private at that price."
Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai looks over at Kirinar with some sympathy realising that while he is used to the heat and humidity that defines Chult most people are not. He walks up to Kaya and says permit me to introduce myself "my name is Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai, a scholar of the Arcane, but please call me Dr Arbataveu; most people do." He thinks for a minute and continues "I believe that I may have know your grandmother, or was it your great grandmother, the original Kaya, when I stayed here sometime ago. It is good to see that her dream of a quality rest house has been realised and continues to operate. Is there any chance of a cup of tea for me and my somewhat parched companion?"

“I agree Kirinar, I enjoy the protection of my heavy armor, but we should take a look at some of the lighter offerings here in the city. I also saw some mosquito repellent and rain catchers that will be helpful for us here.”
"Is there anything else you need? I'll have rooms prepared for you each."
As Kaya places the tea on the table, Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai pours himself a cup and takes a deep sniff and says to anybody who is listening "ah but the aroma of a cup of Chultuan tea takes a lot of beating, a hint of smoke and spice, delightful!"He then turns back to Kaya and says "let me consult with my colleagues, and I will come back to you if we have any questions or specific needs."

Keyleth sits quietly watching Dr Arbataveu with some bemusement at his florid language. When the tea arrives, she accepts it, smiling at Kaya by way of thanks. When the conversation turns to business, she adds, "Agreed, if we're going into the jungle in search of this artifact, we'll need some supplies to help us survive. Mosquito repellent sounds like a great idea, for one."
"It didn't sound like Syndra knew much about where to find this thing, apart from it being somewhere in Chult. Seems to me we need to spend some time trying to narrow it down before blindly stumbling out into an uncharted peninsula. I wonder if this merchant prince knows anything more?"
"Your rooms are ready." as she hands each of you a key and lets you know which rooms are yours. She then lingers for a moment before speaking again.
"Please excuse my intrusion but by your dress I would think that you are adventurers seeking the lost treasures in the jungles of Chult. I would recommend you hire a guide if you desire to leave the safety of the Port. They can help you prepare for the jungle. Also there are many dangers in the jungle with the threat of the undead. Some of them frequent my establishment and other can be found at the Thundering Lizard. Their advertisements are on the board and if you wish to speak with one of them let me know and I can send them a message to meet with you."
"That is an excellent suggestion; thank you," Keyleth says, hopping up abruptly from her seat in a manner that startles a few of the other guests, and walking swiftly toward the board.
Kirinar follows Keyleth to the board and reads the announcements over her shoulder. "Hmm...This Qawasha guy reminds me of old Mother Moonbear, the local druid back home. She was always talking about the 'Balance' and how we needed to help protect it. But she was fierce and tough - which is why all of the kids called her Mama Bear. Plus part of the reason we are here is to rid the lands of undead."
He also points to the first two postings. "Although these two look like they could be a good fit for us, too. Locals who seem to know the area. The dwarf and this Shago character don't feel right to me, though. What do you think, Keyleth?"
“I’m in agreement with you as well, Kirinar. The price is the same, and we don’t need aanother loudmouth dwarf in our party. One is enough! Ha!” Ransyl cracks himself up.
I would place my vote on the Druid, as his magic may come in handy. We will need someone dedicated to fighting the undead along side us.”
OOC - yes, but we can easily bring you all into the conversation.
Motioning to the rest of the team, “What do you think? Kirinar and I are leaning toward the Druid guide, Qawasha. Kaya, What do you know of thes guides? And the Emerald Enclave?”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I agree, something seems off to me about Shago. Have you heard of this 'Flaming Fist'? Going on the name alone, I'd guess they may not be a group we necessarily want to take endorsements from. The dwarf might be ok but we've got brute strength pretty well covered," Keyleth smiles at Kirinar and gestures back at Ransyl. "I tend to agree, based on these posters alone, the druid might be our best bet. Though we should find out about the Emerald Enclave first."
OoC: DM, would it be reasonable to think that Keyleth might be able to pick up on possible ulterior motives from written text, based on word choices, etc.? (I'll give you two insight rolls in case disadvantage applies due to the lack of any body language cues, etc. Roll 1: 14,
Roll 2: 14)
Used "Ear for deceit: Whenever you make an Insight check to determine whether a creature is lying, treat a roll of 7 or lower on the d20 as an 8."
Keyleth wanders away from the board to try to find Kaya. "Excuse me, I'm curious about a couple of organizations mentioned on those posters over there. Can you tell us anything about either the Flaming Fist or the Emerald Enclave?"
