"I, for one, am finding this heat and damp air too much to bear. I'm a hardy soul, and young by the dwarf's standards, but I know when to listen to the advice of others. I'll take a nice set of studded leather armor, if you please. Also, do you have any salves, oils or ointments we should use on our weapons and armor to protect them from the elements? I hear there are some other things to protect us from the insects in the jungle, so I'd like some of that stuff, too. Oh, and I also need 3 more waterskins…" Kirinar moves through the market like a pro, examining the items and looking for the items he needs.
"Do you think we can store our heavy armor with Her Perspicuousness while we tromp through the jungle?" he asks Doc Arbataveu. "You know, so we don't have to carry extra weight with us. And so we don't have to loose our perfectly good armor that I'll want to wear when we go back home..."
(Bought studded leather armor and 3 waterskins. Is there any of the other stuff available? Don't see anything like it in PHB. Thanks!)
“Well, I think I’ll join my friend here in downgrading my armor to some studded leather. In order to free up a hand for my shield, i’ll downgrade to a battleaxe as well. Do you accept trade as part of the payment? I’ve got this chain mail armor and greataxe. How much will you give me for those?”
"40 gp is the best I can do for ya. 15 for the axe, 25 for the armor. Not much of a market for used heavy armor. There be dwarves in Chult so maybe I can sell to one leaving the island. Best I can offer ya. Speaking of dwarves, Dwarves are determined to reclaim Wyrmheart Mine, but a red dragon lives there now. Haven’t seen one of them in a while. A dragon that is. "
"Insect repellent is what you'll want young man if you are headed into the jungle. We got 2 types.
A block of incense sells for 1 sp. When lit, it burns for 8 hours and repels normal insects within a 20-foot-radius centered on it.
A gourd or vial of salve, which sells for 1 gp, contains 20 applications of odorless grease. One application protects its wearer against normal insects for 24 hours. The salve is waterproof so it doesn’t wash off in rain.
I highly recommend the salve. Apply it every morning to keep the bugs away. "
He eyes you for a moment.
"You got a guide and a charter yet? You'll get lost if you don't have a good guide. And one must purchase a charter of exploration at Fort Beluarian before undertaking any jungle expedition. The Flaming Fist punishes explorers who don’t have the required paperwork."
Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai wanders over to where Kirinar is trying to decide between the repellent and the salve saying "I would strongly recommend the salve. I used it myself last time and found it very efficacious."He turns to the Merchant and says "could I have two gourds please" as he hands over two dragons. He then thinks for a moment obviously going through his equipment list in his head and says "you wouldn't have any spare water-skins perchance?" Finally he says in a quite whisper "do you have any tips on a sure thing in the Dinosaur races?"

"Yup, I have extra skins. You have rain catchers yet? You'll need a couple if those. Rains every day in Chult. Set em up when you camp at night and collect the rain. Beats lugging barrels of water into the jungle, though I've seen you adventuring types do that to.
A rain catcher is a simple contraption consisting of a 5-foot-square leather tarp and a wooden frame with legs. When the tarp is stretched across the wooden frame, it forms a basin that can catch 2 gallons of drinking water per inch of rainfall and holds up to 8 gallons. The tarp and wooden frame fold up for easy transport. A rain catcher costs 1 gp and weighs 5 pounds.
Be careful out in the jungle though. Watch out for any mist with a blue tinge to it. It spreads a fever that drives people mad."
"Hmm these look interesting" Vah Jo Gyaan Chaahata Hai says as he examines the rain catcher. "I'd better take one of those plus four extra water skins"as he hands over the requisite coins.

Keyleth, who had been quietly tagging along up to this point does a quick mental calculation. "I'd better get a few more waterskins too. I think three should do it. Food rations too... I've got five days' worth already, but a week there and back... I'd feel better with a buffer just in case we get lost or delayed." She buys three waterskins, 15 more ration packs, and two vials of insect salve.
"All this gear is going to be heavy. I've heard about magical storage containers... 'bags of holding' I think they're called? Not sure we could afford something like that now even if somebody wants to sell us one, but uh... might be something that'd be worth pooling some funds for if we can manage it."
"You've been so helpful," she says to the merchant. "Any idea if we might be able to find something like that around here?"
“I understand the market, and I’ll take the gold your offering for this armor and axe.”
Ransyl ends up purchasing 2 gourds of salve, studded leather armor, battleaxe, 5 days rations, and 1 water skin.
“I have some gems and rings to sell as well, how much would you take for these?” Ransyl shows the two serpent rings (emerald -20gp, moonstone-80gp) and the citrine gemstone (5gp).”
Turning to his team, “Sounds like we need to head to this Fort Beluarian place anyway for our charter. We might need to pick up one of the local guides to get there.”
Ransyl hands over his chain mail armor and greataxe, retrieving the studded leather armor, he begins putting it on. With the new armor on, he stretches, jumps, and swings his arms as though boxing his shadow.
"Copycats!" Keyleth says with a smile to Ransyl and Kirinar. "I bet nobody's seen a group of adventurers with this many studs in it before," she smirks.
"I'd hold onto your gems if I were you. Easier and lighter to carry than gold pieces. And pretty much any merchant will give you a fair price for them in exchange for purchasing goods. And if you get too much gold to carry the banks are reputable and you can put money on account with them."
Kirinar picks up 2 gourds of insect repellent salve and 8 more ration packs. "Whelp - guess I'm about as ready as can be. Just need to store this chain mail. Instead of a bag, we could also get a mule or a beast of burden at the next port..." he pitches in to Keyleth.
You continue to check out the merchant's in the Grand Souk and move around the Merchant Ward. You see that there is a large palace called Goldenthrone. The palace serves as the meeting place for the merchant princes of Port Nyanzaru and is recognized as the seat of the city’s loose government. It was built decades ago by an Amnian trader and is one of the most opulent structures in the city, rivaled only by the grander temples and the merchant princes’ villas. An honor guard of eight Chultan gladiators is always on duty, to keep away loiterers in the daytime and thieves in the night.
You also pass a few of the merchant prince's villas. Each merchant prince has a private villa in the city. These residences have beautifully plastered walls adorned with bright murals, patios and arcades festooned with fresh flowers, garden courtyards open to the sky, and enormous cisterns equipped with water wheels to power fountains, fans, and kinetic sculptures.
The Merchant Ward also has a Temple of Savrast. His symbol is a monstrous eye, or a crystal ball filled with eyes. Savras’s temple is one of the oldest, grandest buildings in the city. The tiled roof of its great dome resembles an unblinking eye, staring skyward.
There is also a Temple of Gond. The boxy stone temple of Gond looms behind the royal docks. It’s popular among Port Nyanzaru’s many artisans, craftspeople, smiths, ivory carvers, and hydro-engineers. Where most such temples have a forge as a centerpiece, this one features an immense fountain whose water jets shift continually to create amazing shapes. It’s all done with nozzles and valves moving on cams, driven by the city’s plentiful water pressure.
The other temple in the ward is a Temple of Sune. Isolated atop a rocky formation in the sea, the temple of Sune is reachable only by an elevated causeway from Temple Hill or by boat. Steep steps wind up the cliff from the temple’s small harbor. When seen from a distance, the temple’s roof seems to float in midair.
You also see the jewel market which is intentionally styled as a miniature, more exclusive version of the Grand Souk. Its chief business is buying and selling the rich supply of jewels that are dug out of Chult’s mines, but many other rare luxury items are also traded here.
"Oh, hey, is we have time, can I check out the temple over there? The one with the fancy water fountain? That's so cool! The one over there that looks like a giant eye is just creepy, if you ask me!" Kirinar says aloud to the others.
