You leave the old bazaar behind hopeful that the kobolds will keep their promise.
You move closer to the wall of the cliff.
Near the base of the cliffs, a fifteen-foot-tall obelisk of cracked stone is draped with vines and black moss. Behind it, you see a dark passageway obscured by withered creepers. A second, smaller tunnel burrows into the base of a cliff to the east.
As you look around you notice that three stone gargoyles watch you from narrow ledges carved into the cliff side. Each has the face of a bearded devil, its mouth agape in a silent scream.
Dr A inspects the dark passageway. He sees that a short tunnel ends at a slab of worked stone, whose edges are marked by relief carvings of grinning skulls. Four lines engraved at the center of the slab cross one another to form a star, with both ends of each line marking the location of a cube-shaped cavity cut into the door — eight cavities in all.
Keyleth looks at the obelisk but can't tell if there is any writing on it because of the heavy vines and moss that cover the stone.
Ransyl peers around Dr A to see the cube shaped cavities, “Well, I looks like we’ll need to find seven more of those cubes in order to get through this door.”
"I agree - we seem to have one of the eight stones. So maybe the smaller tunnel burrowed into the cliff will get us somewhere interesting?" Kirinar will peer down into that tunnel.
You don't see anything extra in the passageway to the north that ends in the door.
Looking down the smaller passage to the east you see that that alcoves run the length of a narrow tunnel, each one featuring a bestial statue standing or squatting above a basin of oil. But without entering it is hard to see any actual detail of the statues.
"Well, shall we go east and look at those statues? I wonder if we can light those oil basins like a lamp?" Kirinar will lead if the group agrees, or let someone with better perception of traps and tripwires go first.
Keyleth sees Kirinar looking expectantly at her and says, "Alright, fine, I'll go first!" initially sounding exasperated, but then betraying a half-smile in the right corner of her mouth.
She heads into the corridor cautiously, mindful of any out of place floor tiles or tripwires, and examining each statue visually as she passes it. If nothing happens when she walks in she will go all the way to the farthest pair of statues.
As you move down the passageway you see alcoves run the length of a narrow tunnel, each one featuring a bestial statue standing or squatting above a basin of oil.
Moving down the hall from west to east, the opposing statues depict a jaculi and a su-monster, an almiraj and a zorbo, Papazotl (eblis) and Kubazan (froghemoth), and a grung and a kamadan. Each statue is 3 feet tall.
You recognize Papazotl and Kubazan from the Shrine of Papazotl where you retrieved the cube that Keyleth carries.
As you pass near the alcove that contains Papazotl the basin of oil bursts into flame filling the room with more light.
Keyleth then notices that the wall on the east end of the passage holds a hidden door. You are able to open that door and you find a statue of a flail snail.
A golden pendant shaped like an eye hangs on the statue of a flail snail.
"If you grab the pendant, I'll stand ready to fight that fugly-looking snail statue when it invariably animates!" Kirinar says to Keyleth, standing in front of her but leaving some room for her to reach around him to get the shiny necklace...
Keyleth looks askance at Kirinar. "You know it's a trap... I know it's a trap... now why would I want to pick it up? What if it's cursed or something?"
She stares at it for another minute or so.
"Oh alright, fine. If I wind up possessed or something though, I'm coming after you first."
She pulls out a crossbow bolt, and slides the end of it under the necklace and begins to lift it off of the statue...
"There...see? We're fine! But I wouldn't put it on before we check it for magic...would hate to see you 'stick your neck out.' See what I did there?" Kirinar jokes.
"You wouldn't want something to happen to this neck, would you?" Keyleth replies, stretching her head just a bit and giving Kirinar just a hint of an eyelash flutter, attempting to leave it ambiguous whether she's making fun of him or not.
"Alright, I guess we need to look around for some more of those cube things. Where to next?"
"Oh, I almost forgot; that obelisk. I was about to check it for writing, but the vines were in the way. Think I should scrape them off, or is touching it likely a recipe for certain death?"
"Alright, let's keep moving," Keyleth says.
Once they are back above ground, she will suggest that they continue working their way west along the perimeter of the city, toward 14.
OoC: DM, could you post the Omu map to the discord server? It's nice to be able to refer to them there without having to page back here to find it.

She walks over to take a closer look at the obelisk, careful not to touch it just yet.

Timber nods in agreement. "Well this city is big! It makes sense that we should be able to find other key stones!"
He peers down the tunnel to see if he can see anything that Dr. A missed.
