Scamper's eyes are closed and she's pulling his hand, leaned at a 45 degree angle, straining with effort.
When Henry speaks, she opens one eye to look and him, then pulls herself to standing. "Sounds dangerous," she trembles a little "what can we do? And... and what about Little Lightning?"
Hearing Henry say it is time to leave, Gimdir throws up his hands in an 'bout time' movement, "Finally! Minotaur City be as good a place to start looking for the curse thingy we need to destroy. Let's be finding Musharib and get going, yeah?"
"Maby this Atrophied God thing is powered by the undead curse on the island. In any case, I'm in agreement with Gimdir. I don't see what good we are here so lets be moving along now that the race seems to be over."
After you all agree to leave for the jungle, you go back to the tavern to gather anything you left behind. You are able to find Musharib sleeping soundly in his bed (although it is about one in the afternoon). He grumbles when you wake him up, but seems glad to be leaving
"Finally, we be leaving this Ubtao-forsaken pit. I be losing my strength just by being here. (And after pausing to remember what you hired him for) Right, we be going intojungle to find soul thingy and more importantly reclaim Hrakhamar. I assume we be doing that first, so follow me."
Gimdir helps you drag your canoes and supplies through the streets, and leads you to the hills around the city. As you enter the jungle, you are immediately serenaded by the calls of birds and other creatures. Bright light filters through the thick, intensely green foliage above you. Huge, broad leaves line the path ahead as heat waves rise off of the ground. Insects buzz in and out of your view, and scatter as faint rumble echoes from far within the jungle. Musharib seems relieved to be back in the jungle
"Ahh. I be back in the forest. Follow me. The river be just a few miles ahead."
Musharib seems like he knows the general direction of Hrakhamar, but you still need to have a designated navigator to keep track of your location on the map. Here's how travel will work:
At the start of each new travel day, I'll roll a Wisdom (Survival) check on behalf of the navigator. The result of the check determines whether or not the party becomes lost over the course of the day. The DC of the check is based on the day’s most common terrain: DC 10 for coasts and lakes, or DC 15 for jungles, mountains, rivers, swamps, and wastelands (you are currently in the jungle). I'll apply a +5 bonus to the check if you set a a slow pace for the day, or a –5 penalty if you are moving at a fast pace. It’s possible to get lost on a river by following a tributary instead of the main branch.
Paces:
On the map of Chult, each hex measures 10 miles across. If you move at a normal pace, you can travel 1 hex per day on foot through coastal, jungle, mountain, swamp, or wasteland terrain. You can travel 2 hexes per day if you’re traveling by canoe on a river or lake. The rate of travel up or down river is the same; the rivers are so sluggish that current is almost imperceptible. Without canoes, the normal rate of travel along a river is the same as through the surrounding terrain. Canoes move 1 hex per day through swamp.
If you move at a fast pace, you advance 1 additional hex that day. However, if you are moving at a fast pace you take a –5 penalty to your passive Wisdom (Perception) scores, making you more likely to miss clues and walk into ambushes.
If you set a slow pace, I'll roll a d4. On a roll of 1 or 2, you advance 1 fewer hex that day (in other words, 1 hex by canoe or none by foot). On any other result, your caution is rewarded, and you travel the same distance as a group moving at a normal pace. Characters moving at a slow pace can move stealthily. As long as you’re not in the open, you can try to surprise or sneak by other creatures you encounter.
If you set a normal pace, you move one hex per day (or 2 by canoe). No penalty will be added to the navigation roll or your passive Wisdom (Perception) scores.
[ooc : Jasuri seems the obvious choice for navigator since he's the wise one.]
Scamper looks around at everything in awe, loving every moment and walking slowly and carefully to take it all in. So slowly in fact that it slows the entire group's pace, whether she means it to or not.
Musharib tells you that there are two rivers that you could take. One of them is very close to you (River Tiryki) but doesn't exactly lead to Hrakhamar, while the other (River Shoshenstar) leads more directly to Hrakhamar, but is a little farther away. The choice is up to Jasuri (if he is your navigator). Jasuri will also decide what pace you will travel at.
Current location is shown here (The hex you are in is the red one. If the map is too blurry, you should be able to find that hex on the map I linked in the campaign page)
Also, if any of you want to forage for food and water (you'll make those rolls after the navigating roll), the normal rules in the DMG apply
Characters can gather food and water as the party travels at a normal or slow pace. A foraging character makes a Wisdom (Survival) check whenever the DM calls for it, with the DC determined by the abundance of food and water in the region. The DC is currently 12.
If multiple characters forage, each character makes a separate check. A foraging character finds nothing on a failed check. On a successful check, I'll roll 1d6 + the character's Wisdom modifier to determine how much food (in pounds) the character finds, then repeat the roll for water (in gallons)
"I've traveled before and have navigated a wildland or two. Using the map for judgement, river ShonSshen-Shar? Shon-shen-sar? The farther river will allow us to spend less time in dangerous territory. Regardless, the gods will bestow magicks to smooth our path no matter who leads."
Jasuri would be happy to guide (and has proficiency in survival and a high Wis. bonus) but if someone else asserts leadership he will take a back seat. Regardless of who navigates he'll cast guidance on them. If he is navigator he will lead the group to river Shonshenstar traveling along the coast in canoes.
[Since ToA is a rough campaign for players, you can choose to roll or take fixed hp]
Musharib leads you from the jungle to a large bay. From here, you can see the edge of Port Nyanzaru. As you board your canoes and begin to paddle, Musharib (who still seems to be in a very good mood) provides stories and information to make the hard work of rowing less tedious. He explains how his tribe once encountered a village of goblins and barely escaped certain death. He also tells you all about the dinosaurs of Chult, and how they are "the children of Ubtao", and must be respected. And, after a hard day of rowing, you finally decide to set up camp near a boulder pile on shore. If any of you would like to forage or set up rain catchers, now is the time to do that.

Food and Water Needs:
(For each day I will write the amount of food/water needs for each character. EX: -1lb food, -2 gal water)
Gimdir (Medium): -1b food, -2 gallons of water
Henry (Medium): -1b food, -2 gallons of water
Jasuri (Medium):-1b food, -2 gallons water
Scamper (Small):-1b food, -2 gallons water
Musharib (Medium):-1b food, -2 gallons water
Musharib's Survival: 7
Musharib goes into the jungle for a while as you set up camp. When he returns, he shakes his head
"Looks like the jungles be against us. I be finding no food."
After that, he builds a small fire and begins boiling water in a dented metal pot. He spends about 30 minutes doing this and provides around 8 gallons of water. (If nobody else is able to find anything in the jungle, he is glad to share his water). Musharib goes to sleep when he is done boiling water.
Scamper, who doesn't want to pass up an opportunity to explore the jungle more, also goes foraging for more food (although for her it's more of an exploration of her surroundings, in awe of everything new and different around her including new types of animal scat and tracks.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jasuri too will head off into the jungle in search of food, and quickly bags a small, edible looking mammal with a javelin and after another few minutes, recognizes a wild version of a fruit tree that was growing in his house before his...before.
After Musharib (unsuccessfully) tries to find some food, Henry, Gimdir, and Scamper all experience the same lack of food. However, Jasuri is successful and harvests about 6 pounds of meat. He collects 9 gallons of water from some bowl-shaped leaves. (What will the durations/order be for your watch?)
Henry will agree with Jasuri. "I agree. We should set 2 hour watches each. If Musharib is Willing to join us in the rooster, we should still get plenty of sleep. Fizz here doesn't sleep much, so he will help whoever is on watch."

"We'll take the first watch." Scamper offers. She settles down on a large rock by the campfire, and pulls out a little pipe stuffing it with a pungent leaf and takes a long drag from it, blowing rings as she exhales.

Gimdir doesn't have the patience to keep track of their positions on a map.
