Spoiler for Laylarin, Sealarin, Frankie and Umbrielle:
You only really have 2 options let me know which you will try to do in a message and I will post your Arena part up when more have completed the rolls. That will tie in with everyone else and probably won't be in a spoiler.
When asking about magical weapons your are given strange looks throughout town. Eventually you are directed to The Third Wish in the common quarter. Here a human by the name of Dr. Twist tries to sell a number of magical baubles before you can even ask for anything. When you finally do express what you want he takes a look at your current sword and tries to sell you a different long sword. He assures you though that because it is forged in a more traditional manner that it is surely better. It will also be a steal for the lowly price of 700 gold. You leave among a shower of other offers for various baubles and trinkets all "steals".
Next you are directed to The New Cauldron and The Antique Wraith in the merchant quarter. The New Cauldron is run by a friendly gnome named Cedbat. He quickly admits to not having any swords at the moment since he mainly sells potions and kindly asks about your strange dress and mannerisms. He makes conversation for a short time and then bids you good luck on your search.
The Antique Wraith is strangely built. No windows of any kind and you work back and forth through a small hallway and several curtains before entering the store proper. When you step in the main area it is dimly lit. Shelves line the walls with varied items from books to blades. You hear a sharp intake of breath beside your right ear and dry voice speaks "How strange..". When you look to see who spoke no one is there. The voice sounds in front of you now and asks "What is it that you need?" You haltingly explain your desire to find a stronger blade and your offer of exchanging what you currently hold. You hear a sharp intake of breath again this time by your left ear. "Come back to the shop in three weeks time. We will make a deal." You leave the strange store and the unseen proprietor quickly.
The last store you visit is The Pegasus in the noble quarter. Iszael Valsys is the owner and makes it perfectly clear you will need coin to shop her store and if you are not going to buy something you can leave. The first sword she shows you is 7000 gold. After you balk at her price she excuses you from her store and states simply to "Come back when you have gold to spend and not before."
Your patron, Brogach, The Chained One, directed you several years ago to Stalia. You have opened a small alchemist shop and have put out word you are interested in expanding into magical wares. One day a young human named Frankie Stien enters your shop. He is interested to see if you have the capabilities to assist with crafting magical wares. The imp your patron uses as a mouth piece climbs up to your shoulder and whispers in a voice not it's own
"The chains of fate hang heavy on this one. Agree to his desires. You will have what you need to support him for a time. Earn his trust and that of his companions as well. They will lead you to what we desire."
That night a cloaked figure with red glowing eyes leaves a sack and a chest in your shop. It contains gold and reagents and a strange box. The imp cackles madly when he sees it and explains it to be a Spell Box. It will allow you to imbue items being enchanted with almost any spell you need. The imp also explains in great detail how excited it is that you are now being tasked with more things. Now hopefully you will soon die a horrible death and it can move on to what it considers to be a much better assignment.
During the down time you have given a boon from your patron. You no longer require sleep. This will end when the game starts again after the 30 days of down time. The gold and materials that were not used in the creation process for the group will be reclaimed by the strange red-eyed figure.
Frankie walks into the House and excitedly says "Everyone! Everyone! listen up! I found this Gnome guy named Odin or something and he says he can help everyone make items. He is going to help me make my staff into a boomstick. If it is alright with the rest of you I can also have him help me make your items you were asking me about. Doing so will make it take less time and less Gold. This is a really good thing, but if you don't want to consider it that is fine as well, I guess."
The night of the dinner with the Latore's and Marks comes about. Umbrielle attends the dinner with Lord Marks. A pleasant conversation is had throughout the night but not much useful information is gained. The real search happens with Hughes at the Latore estate. He set out alone to spy on the house and did not return. The next day Urghh finds out Hughes is missing and sets out to find him. Urghh does not return.
To keep things simple in the time line we will still have everyone do what we have already discussed. Any actions anyone wants to take in response to Hughes disappearance will wait till game day. Let me know if anyone else wants to join Urghh the next day to hunt for Hughes.
negative ghost rider. Urghh never would have waited 20+ days to search for Hughes (not sure of exact time on this whole fiasco but I thought it was happening soon after last quest ended) Urghh go search, and kill if necessary all of the Latore family until Hughes found. By day 30 I either find Hughes, kill everyone or am dead. Exception to this is if it is decided that the Latore break-in happened the night before we resume. There is literally no other path my character would have taken. That aside, I worked on new sculpture. It look just like Annabelle...but improved. Basically Annabelle in warrior garb with mace, and small angled spikes down arms.
DM---Please let me know if I should have my paladin ready to go based on what happened during the 30 days.
The next day after Hughes did not return you storm off to the Latore estate. Seeing no guards you rush into the house and demand Hughes. Sir Latore only half dressed and wielding a rapier meets you on the second story. He parries or dodges all your attempts to hit him and quickly leaves you bleeding and unconscious. When you wake up you are chained to the wall in what you later find out to be an imperial prison.
So....based on spoiler for Urghh everyone else would have seen Urghh charge off to rescue Hughes on day XX of 30 (still undetermined). Also uncertain if anyone accompanied me (DM, help out here please, this all seems like it should be role played) but I apparently went missing the day after Hughes. Feel free to read my spoiler, it really doesn't give anything away but my characters disappearence on day XX is significant and may impact the 30 days for other players. Also, my spoiler could forseeabley change based on other character actions.
Frankie comes home the 4th night to discover the news and looks at everyone around, shrugs, and says so let me get this straight.
The brainless one ran off to rescue the witless one? From somewhere no one else knows for sure he was?
At that exact moment the Annabelle doll comes into the room while dancing and apparently celebrating. After a moment she begins becoming to Frankie for him to follow into the family crypt.
Matthew everyone knew where I was going. A page back or so I had told everyone I wasn't going to be at the party and why. And the longer y'all kept the nobles busy the better chances I had at the house.
As they walked in to The Third Wish, they were immediately caught in an aggressive sales pitch by the human in the shop. Layla patiently waited for a minute, listening to him bable about baubles and such, until she could finally get a word in edgewise to mention she's looking for a longsword - though she was interrupted before she could elaborate. Saela let Layla take the brunt of his focus and slipped off to the side to examine the merchandise as she heard Layla finally manage to convey that she was looking for a sword. Saela was quite unimpressed with the wares she saw in the shop, all either simple magic that is barely useful as a toy, or nonmagical items that are being portrayed as more than they are. The human tried to push Layla to buy some "normal" sword and said something about it being better than hers... Saela caught Frankie's eye and shook her head, then discreetly pointed at Layla and cast Message to send her silently "This isn't the place for what you're after. Nothing here is powerful enough to be useful in the slightest." Saela walked toward the door, and Layla thanked the man for his time, speaking over his constant sales pitch, and they managed to leave.
When they got to The New Cauldron, they breathed a sigh of relief when they found the shopkeep there was not the pushy type of the last shop. In fact, he seemed both helpful and friendly. Although he said he didn't have any swords, the Rins stayed to chat with him for a short time since he showed interest in them. They explained that they are from a very different place, and are unsure exactly how they ended up here. If he continued to show sufficient interest in that topic, Saela will have asked if he had a piece of parchment, took out her Jeweler's Tools and a small vial of tiny fragments of gems and pulled one fragment out, touching it to the parchment. The parchment would have changed to show an image of their time, a memory from Saela's perspective of the ceremony to promote Layla to General. After that she changed the image to a map of their city, and finally to a map of their whole island. She will have allowed him to keep it, still showing as the island map if he wishes, and will have warned him that the magic will only stay until she needs to release it, so it may disappear at some point. She also questioned him about wands - if he ever sells any or knows anyone who deals with them.
At The Antique Wraith, they are sufficiently creeped out by the strange disembodied voice, but Layla answered its query, explaining that she was looking for a more powerful magic longsword, preferably one that does extra damage, and a short description of the flaming swords she remembered from stories in their time. She agreed to return when the voice told her to come back in three weeks. They didn't stick around or look around too closely, but while they were there, even from a distance at least Saela could tell that the items there were much more powerful and useful than those in the first shop. It seemed a promising lead, despite the creepiness of it.
The Pegasus also seemed to have useful wares, though again not much time is spent there, since they are summarily kicked out when the merchant realizes they don't have the amounts of gold she would want for her wares.
The Arena scores are in. We will play out the semi-finals and the finals if anyone makes it in. The line up is Grol the Stout with 62 points, Emhorn the Quick with 65 points, Laylarin with an amazing 86 points and Genevieve Wolfwing with 56 points. It will be a battle of the sexes when Laylarin and Gen roll to see who will fight Emhorn or Grol. We will run the semi-finals and finals in the game tomorrow.
A week after the events in the Mad God’s tower Lord Marks stops you and has an interesting discussion. Apparently, Sir Latore was assaulted in his own home by a mad dwarf. The dwarf brute was screaming something about finding “yous”. Sir Latore subdued the intruder and contacted the imperial guard. Lord Marks comments “It is lucky that Sir Latore was not introduced to your house guests during the dinner. I think it best if they do not remain in the house any longer. Sir Latore is not noble but he is still very influential. It would not due to make an enemy of him.”
Following these events, Eston begins to employ your services. You have completed a few missions for him. A simple theft of a small chest of gems and two cases where in your position as Lady Marks you were able to deliver black roses to certain noblemen in the community. These are warnings from the thieves’ guild. These missions have gained you 500 gold in all.
During the next few weeks, Chastice Latore arranges to meet and have luncheons with Lady Marks.
After almost four weeks Eston 'Honestly' Stanford delivers information about the spider problem. A snitch knows where he has been laying low. For some reason, he is not getting out much.
Following the events at the Latore estate with Urghh, Lord Marks has removed the party from the Marks house. Luckily there are now several rooms in the crypts that have been renovated. If you do not want to pay for an inn then you can still shelter there. With the exception of Umbrielle, Annabelles Avengers are not welcome inside the Marks house.
Over the course of the first 36 hours with the group, Renal was absolutely certain he had found the group to teach him all he would ever need to know. As his certainty rose, he began to tell everyone (regardless of if they wished to hear it or not) all about his Order of the Red Fate and the tenets of his Order. The symbol for the Order of the Red Fate (which is the Holy symbol around my neck) is a hand with a red tablet of fate in the palm.
Renal is a prestigious (his claim) member of the Order of the Red Fate, a little known sub-sect of two major groups, the Red Knights and the followers of Torm. How these two groups came to have a joint split-off is clouded in mystery and intrigue, but it is said to be the birth of two lovers who never should have been. They are the self-proclaimed true guardians of the Tablet of Fate and honor the spirit therein by by following the edicts set down in blood and stone eons ago.
1. A structured society is one which has declared and is in control of its own Fate.
2. As Fate is set in stone and unchanging, so too must be the fates of our daily lives.
3. Fate can be cruel and unforgiving. So too can the laws of man be cruel and unforgiving.
4. To exploit the laws of man is to exploit Fate and gain favor of the Gods themselves.
5. Impose structure and order upon one's life. Only thru order and willful action can the laws which dominate Fate be understood and mastered.
As a most prestigious (again, my boastful claim) member of the Order of the Red Fate, I felt the last edict most important in achieving the first edict. As such I made it my mission to comprise a set of laws to achieve this lofty goal. It was declared by the council that if my most Holy mission was true and just then the Gods would grant me their favor and see me back to the Holy city once my mission was complete. To test my conviction, and since I had grown up in the temple with little knowledge of the outside world, I was made unconsciousness and left outside the city gates to begin my Holy Quest. Should I succeed in my Holy Quest, then the Gods would most surely see me home safely, or so I was told by the council. Once awakened in a strange and far away land (or was it close, I truly have no idea), I set out to find a group who might embody the very ideas I set out to transcribe. A group that understood the cruelties of Fate. Groups such as this often have an unscripted and unofficial law they follow, and if this can be captured in word it may yet fulfill my Holy Mission.
Lestat will gladly stay up all night talking with you on the finer points of laws and fate. We can do so over a nice bottle of my special vintage as we do qother tasks that need to be done. Such as the firehardening of the mud halls that are currently being dug by frankies... Slaves?... Indentured servants?... What the he'll do we call these creepy things?. Anyways I have no problem keeping you up and talking tirelessly of the different concepts of law, order, and the finer points of fates dealing hand.

The Rins' perspective on the shopping trip:

Frankie has a lot to say on the subject of Fate and Destiny. To one who wants to listen.
A neat tool for tracking combat.
