"Best news today.." Leosin says back with a matching smirk and hint of annoyance.
"Leosin." Daran says flatly with a look.
"My sincerest apologies my dearest Riccard... Things are a bit tense. You did interrupt but it's nothing that hasn't already been settled. I would love to attend dinner with you but it will have to be tonight. My party will be leaving with Leosin at first light tomorrow to make our way north to Greenest.." says Lady Wintercrest.
"That's enough." says Leosin.
"Calm Leosin, nothing of your mission has been revealed. Many people travel to Greenest and I trust Riccard with my life. Would you and your party be able to join us? It will take around three tenday to get there." says, Lady Wintercrest.
"Would you all please stop by the Old Owl Well. I have done my part and given you my contacts within the Order of the Gauntlet. Write and let me know Phandalin is safe." says Daran to Leosin.
On the shelf behind Lady Wintercrest you spot a few new items from the last time you were here with their description and price under them written in Common.
Halben says "We will join you tonight to discuss that. I do otherwise have some business with your merchants. Would you like me to discuss my purchases with you or someone else?"
Halben leans in and whispers in her ear saying "Well as long as that commitment continues to after hours business then I won't have any complaints." Then with a wink he leans back and says "I would like to purchase the two healing potions. I am quite a thirsty man when it comes to these."
Lady Wintercrest smiles as she slides two Healing Potions over to "Riccard" using her Ghost hand.
"Here you are. That will be 100 gold pieces. You seem to lead quite the risky life, Riccard. You would be quite an asset to our caravan. Where will we be going tonight?", says Lady Wintercrest.
Leosin rolls his eyes. Daran continues to watch intently. Leosin then says to Daran.
"Yes. If my suspicions are true then we will need all the allies we can get. I will gladly stop by this well to investigate for you.", Leosin says.
Taking the potions and handing her the coin. Halben says "Ah, and whilst I have your attention, would you happen to know anything about this sword?" Halben removes the longsword he found in Cragmaw Castle with the Neverwinter emblem on it.
Halben responds "I would love to join you as well that is why I agreed to meet with you later. Where would you suggest for us to meet? You seem to have a better knowledge of this town than we do."
Cypress looks to Daran, “we’ve already took care of the old owl well, it was quite the battle! Turns out a necromancer had taken the grounds and had apparently been building his own militia” cypress then turns to Lady Wintecrest, “I believe I will take the ice knife and the cure wounds scrolls” he then slides 120 gold pieces across the counter
Wrote a Summary Recap not including the most recent conversations to catch everyone back up since we've been going for a long time now.
It all started when Conway, Cypress, Halben, and Fawn were all called together by their dwarf patron and friend, Gundren Rockseeker who hired them to escort a wagon to Phandalin. Gundren went ahead with his escort Sildar Hallwinter and everyone was to meet in Phandalin but fate had other plans...
After surviving a roadside ambush by a pack of Cragmaw Goblins the adventurers discovered Gundren and Sildar's dead horses. Upon tracking down the goblins to adventures were able to defeat a number of goblins and one bugbear named Klarg who were in a hideout. They rescued Sildar but it appears Gundren had been take elsewhere.
On the trip back to Phandalin Sildar revealed that Gundren and this two brothers Tharden and Nundro recently located an entrance to the long lost Wave Echo Cave which had been searched for many years due to it's power to forge powerful weapons. The adventures found that Gundren had been waylayed on orders of the Black Spider as they Black Spider wanted the map to the cave. Sildar believed that Gundren had been taken to Cragmaw castle but he knew not where that may be. You decided to travel to Phandalin to continue your search while SIldar was going to meet with a member of the Lord's Alliance Iarno Albrek who had arrived in Phandalin two months prior.
The adventurers arrived in Phandalin and met with various merchants and conducted detective work. Conway and Halben met with the owner of the Stonehill Inn Toblen as well as his wife Trilena and his son Pip. Toblen shared that a local gang known as the Redbrands had been causing problems in the town. Pip shared that his friend Carp at the Alderleaf farm had found a secret Redbrand tunnel on his land! Trilena shared that the Redbrands had killed Thel Dendrar in broad daylight and took his body and that his wife, daughter, and son had all gone missing.
Fawn and Cypress made their way to the Edermath Orchard where they met the retired silver haired half-elf adventurer and self-appointed guardian of Phandalin, Daran Edermath. Daran shared the secret location of the Redbrand safe house and asked for Fawn and Cypress to investigate the Old Owl Well as the prospectors had been reporting sighting undead. Daran also revealed the leader of the Redbrands was a wizard named Glasstaff.
The adventurers met back up at the Lioneshield Coster where they met the sharp tongued proprietor Liene. The adventurers returned some goods they recovered from the Cragmaw Hideout and were rewarded. Liene shared that the local Redbrands frequented the Sleeping Giant Tap house in town and the adventurers were best to avoid it.
The group has other plans and goes straight to the Sleeping Giant where a fierce drinking contest between the adventurers and a number of the Redbrand Gang went on late into the night! The Redbrands proved superior and the adventurers passed out and awoke with a massive hangover and completely robbed of their coin. Sildar found them and woke them up and alerted the group that his colleague Iarno had appeared to have gone missing after investigating the Tresendar Manor, he suspects the Redbrands may have captured him.
The adventurers came back refreshed and hunted down the thieves by catching them right before they made it into the Tresendor Hideout which was the secret Redbrand Hideout. The adventurers cut their way through the hideout and slew many Redbrands, a one-eyed monster named Gilga. The battle with Glasstaff finally arrived and upon his defeat the group learned that Iarno Albrek was Glasstaff!
Glasstaff then shared that he was acting on orders of the Black Spider and that the Black Spider was aware of the adventurers presence as well. Due to Iarno's co-operation the group allowed Iarno to escape in exchange for information regarding the Black Spider and magic items hidden in the Redbrand Hideout.
The group rescued Mirna Denrar as well as her son and daughter from the Redbrand's cells. Mirna shares that while she has no reward available she provided that her family left a valuable emerald necklace behind in a shop to the southeast part of Thundertree beneath a shelf before the town was overrun with Undead.
The group arrived back in town and informed Sildar of Iarno's treachery and his loyalty to the Black Spider. Sildar shared that the Black Spider was a drow and that it would be imperative to locate the Cragmaw Castle as soon as possible and to located Gundren to stop the Black Spider. Sildar also shared that their had been increasing Orc activity at Wyvern Tor and the Townmaster Harbin had a reward out for eliminating them.
The adventurers head out towards the Old Owl Well hoping to interrogate some goblins along the way to find out where the Cragmaw Castle is. Upon arriving at the Old Owl Well a battle erupts with numerous Zombies and Fawn comes extremely close to death! In the end the adventurers prevail and discover that the necromancer's name was Hamun Kost as well as his notes. There was many valuable bits of information and the adventurers acted on his notes that there was a Banshee named Agatha that lived close to the old town of Conyberry.
The group offered Agatha the Banshee a jade statuette which told the adventurers the Black Spider's true name was Nezznar. The banshee shared that the Black Spider was currently inside the Wave Echo Cave but was yet to find the Forge of Spells. She also shared the exact location of the Wave Echo Cave which was 15 miles east of Phandlin deep in the Sword Mountains.
The group started to track a goblin warband which when they found were assaulting a merchant wagon. Many of the wagon guards perished in the fight but the adventurers saved the day! They kept one Goblin alive and through interrogation found the location of the Cragmaw Castle.
The calvary arrived behind the merchant wagon which is where Halben and Lady Wintercrest began forming a relationship. Lady Wintercrest provided the party with healing potions and they went to Cragmaw Castle where a battle lasted an entire day. Through many close calls the adventurers survived rescuing Gundren and forming a shaky alliance with the King of Cragmaw Castle King Klarg who has agreed to help them kill the Black Spider.
Possible Leads:
-Emerald Necklace allegedly in Thundertree
-Orcs at Wyvern Tor
-Black Spider at Wave Echo Cave
-Ask Phandalin's population about any rumors or stories
Lady Wintercrest takes the sword an examines it from tip to handle.
Lady Wintercrest smiles and says, "Ah yes. I have seen these before. Wielded only by those who have served in the famous Griffon Calvary of Waterdeep. There is nothing magical about it but it is a fine weapon and would definitely be missed by it's owner."
Fawn then asks about additional healing potions bringing a frown to Lady Wintercrest's face.
Lady Wintercrest responds, "I'm afraid not my dear. You say what happened to our shipment on the Triboar Trail which has admittedly a more dangerous trek but we gave you all we had left there. We were supposed to have numerous shipments coming in from Neverwinter by the High Road which traditionally has been safer but... Something has been off there. Strange storms have been appearing out of nowhere which are causing our shipments to lose their way... There has also been...
Lady Wintercrest drops into a whisper.
"There have been increasing Orc sightings. The people of Phandalin are very sensitive to this as I am sure you know that is how Phandalin once was taken. We are beginning to think that once again the Orcs have come down from the mountains to prey on the lowlands! If Neverwinter doesn't send help soon I fear the orcs will overrun this town once again and destroy everything these good people have worked so hard to build. We don't want people to panic so we are trying to keep it under wraps but the citizens will find out soon enough."
Cypress then informs Daran of the battle of the Old Owl Well. Daran appears as if he has mixed feelings he nods his head in thanks to Cypress.
Daran says to Cypress, "Thank you so much. A necromancer... This close to Phandalin..."
Leosin perks up at Cypress and he looks at him intently.
Leosin, "A necromancer? What was it planning to do with this militia? Can you tell me anything about what it was wearing? Identifying symbols?"
Daran to Leosin, "You think it's related?"
Leosin holds his hand up to Daran to silence him as he stares at the others waiting for answers.
Halben begins to think back. He recalls that Sildar said he served in the Griffon Calvary Of Waterdeep which is where he met Iarno Albrek(Glasstaff). Halben puts together that since they found the sword in Cragmaw Castle and the Cragmaw goblins attacked Sildar and took Gundren there is a good chance it belongs to Sildar.
Fawn looks to Leosin “odd you want information from us but refuse to let us know anything of your agenda” she says with a scoff. “We found some pretty valuable information from the Necromancer we’d be happy to share with you if you share what you know with us. We can help each other on our quests to help this town and its people.”
You follow the trio outside. Halben please let me know if you would like to shift the Detect Thoughts to another person. I will assume it's on Leosin as he is the most mysterious. As you step outside you notice the sky is fairly dark. The streets of Phandalin are fairly busy. You see Trilena and her son Pip walking down the street hand in hand smiling from the Stonehill Inn.
Leosin looks up at the Sky: (Leosin Thoughts)
Again... Ugh. I have enough on my plate right now. Maybe it's just a coincidence and not these Talos worshippers Daran's told me about. Maybe these adventurers can be useful to the Harpers. It's kind of chilly out. I should have ate before we went shopping. No way of knowing I'd end up trading information. Haha. They may not want to know that we have all these cults bringing danger to the realm. Sometimes I wish I was ignorant of this. Sleep a lot better at night. What is this?!
As you begin to head toward Daran's orchard you see Gundren shuffling in your direction with Sildar behind him looking annoyed and defeated. Gundren approaches you and smiles. The sisters at the shrine have definitely improved him but you notice one of his eyes is solid white.
Sildar says, "Gundren, please! You need your rest!"
Gundren says, "Shut yet flapper, Sildar! My friends saved me and yer outta yer mind if ya think I'm not goin ta thank 'em!"
Sildar just puts his hands on his hips and grins at the old dwarf's stubbornness. Gundren reaches in his pockets and pulls out a bag of gold and tosses it to you.(25 gold pieces each.)
Gundren says, "Here it ain't much but it's all I got right now. You sure took yer time comin' to find me! Don't worry bout it though I was out cold for most of it. The sisters say they might be able to get my sight back after a few months of healing sessions! You all have to stop this Black Spider that got me captured! He means to take the Wave Echo Cave for himself! If he starts makin magic weapons there's not telling what destruction will happen! This spider got these goblins to work together and that's no small task! Plus my brothers Nundro and Tharden are there! The Spider might be torturing them as we speak! Please go find them and save 'em!"
Gundren looks desperate.
Gundren says, "Look it'll take a bit to get up a runnin' but if you can save me brothers and kill this Black Spider I promise to pay you ten percent share of the mine's wealth once we get 'er going!"
Leosin thoughts for Halben
Oh really. The Wave Echo Cave of the Phandelver Pact has been found?! These adventurers are certainly more than meets the eye. Another villain! Is there any good left in this world?

OOC: I actually have no idea where Waterdeep is
