The group ties up the Drow. Easy enough due to the unconsciousness. Fawn goes in search of liquid to wake the drow. She remembers seeing pots in the kitchen. She goes in and finds a pot of some type of stew that appears to be a few days old and cold. She returns to dumps it into the drow's face. Bits of the mystery meat cling to the drow's white hair. She gasps and looks around frantically before scanning each of you with a pure look of hatred. She then looks shocked when she looks at King Grol.
"You dare attack an emissary of the Black Spider, King Grol?! He will have your head for this treachery you fool!", says Vyerith(Drow) with poisonous hatred dripping with every syllable.
King Grol approaches with his Morningstar in hand. Still weak from the battle.
"My treachery! You are the fool, Vyerith! You thought you could my throne by having Targor kill me." Grol says as he holds up his Morningstar still caked with blood. "You thought wrong. You will learn soon what happens to those who cross King Grol!"
Vyerith looks confused.
"I have never even heard of any Targor! The Black Spider could not care less about your throne. We just want the dwarf and the map. If you give them to me now, you will be spared."
The drow then begins to look in 10 second increments at Fawn, Cypress, Halben, and King Grol slowly and intuitively.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Halben looks at the drow and says "That is your first mistake. You think the Black Spider tells you everything? I am sure he would not hesitate to dispose of you as soon as you serve your purpose and he needs you no further. Now let us talk. I do not wish for you to be betrayed by the black spider in the same way that the King was."
The Drow lets a smirk slip and looks to Halben she giggles a bit and says, "Well.... For someone who knows it all and has everything figured out you seem to have the most basic of questions."
The drow coughs lightly with a hint of blood landing on the stone floor below.
"I am happy to answer such an easy question. This all revolves around the Wave Echo Cave."
The drow's head cocks slightly looking at Halben.
"Yes, you have heard of it. Your Dwarf friend located a long lost mine that can be used to forge powerful weapons. The map you see there is a map of this cave. The Black Spider will use the map to navigate the cave and find the Forge of Spells! We only needed the Dwarf to tie up loose ends. Can't have him telling others the way to find the cave. But I saw to that with my dagger... Hahaha!"
Cypress gives the king a somber look, “I’m afraid I didn’t reach them in time to save snarl, I’m sorry”, Cypress then raises his voice and points at the drow, “I found snarl with his tounge cut out, it’s only fitting that she gets the same treatment!”
Halben looks at the king and says "This just became more personal. If you needed any more proof of the black spider's treachery here it is. I don't think she will be of any more use to us. Kill her if you like."
“It’s always a tragedy when a piece of Mother Nature is taken from us” Fawn says with a somber tone “I shall pray to our great mother his reincarnate returns to you king”
King Grol just stares at the female drow no emotion.
The drow looks at him and fear begins to creep into Vyerith's eye.
"King Grol! It's not what you think! They have lied to you! I can read their minds.", Vyerith pleads.
King Grol begins to breathe heavily... Eyes not leaving Vyerith. Vyerith is writhing in her ropes.
"King Grol! I only did what had to be done! I saw you fall! I thought they would torture Snarl the way they are torturing me!", Vyerith says.
King Grol's eyes grow wider. Vyerith begins to panic.
"Please no! Don't do what you are thinking! The Bla...", Vyerith eeks out.
King Grol picks up Vyerith by the ropes and slams her head repeatedly against the wall like a battering ram. Her head splits open and brains spill out. At that moment... The drows body begins to change. Before your eyes the Drow's body becomes more leathery and blue transforming into a Doppelganger. The Doppleganger is dead on the floor.
King Grol slowly walks away and goes to Gundrens room where he kneels beside Snarl and pets his wolf in silence.
OOC: Congratulations! Please change your level to level 4! It will add appropriate experience.
Halben looks to King Grol and says "I am sorry, but your vengeance will not be complete until the black spider is dead. We must make haste to get the dwarf back to town, but we plan to depart straight towards the the location of the black spider right after that. Would you wait for us outside of town whilst we complete our business? Then we will strike down that treacherous black spider where he stands."
“Yes, let’s get him to town so he can recover. Once we regroup let’s take a rest so we are all better health when we face the black spider” Fawn says “I would like to seek counsel from the stars and great Mother Earth about how best to take him down”
King Grol rises from his wolf with a pet and just nods to you.
You make your way to Phandalin, the journey takes about two days but is fairly uneventful. King Grol eventually begins speaking a little bit but not much as he still mourns his Wolf.
You drop King Grol off about a mile out of town and he goes into the shadows. You arrive back in Phandalin. What do you do?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
You approach the Townmasters' Hall as that is the last place you saw Sildar. You recognize the familiar sturdy stone walls, pitched wooden roof, and bell tower at the back. You also notice that the board outside still has a notice nailed to it "REWARD- Orcs near Wyvern Tor! Those of mind to face the orc menace should inquire within." Letting you know that no one else has claimed the reward as of yet.
You enter as you have been working together to carry Gundren. The dwarf has been going in an out of consciousness but mainly unconscious for the most part. As you enter you see Sildar standing over a map in the center of the table. His normally military clean shaven face looks like he has not shaved in days and he has bags under his eyes. Over to the side drinking mead is the familiar fat townmaster Harbin Wester. Harbin looks up first at you first.
"Oh adventurers! Have you returned to claim to reward of Wyvern Tor?!", says Harbin.
Sildar then slowly looks up and darts his eyes from each of you settling on Gundren.
"Gundren!"
Sildar runs over and takes Gundren from you and lays him on the table examining his wounds.
"You did! You found him! It looks like you have done well to keep him stable for the journey but he will need much more till he is recovered. It looks like he took quite a turn for the worse. If you had waited another day I doubt we would be having this conversation. I must get him over to the Shrine of Luck to see the priestess their. She will be able to heal him."
Sildar then goes to the back and pulls out a small chest.
"You earned this for bringing back Gundren and killing that Cragmaw Chieftain. The Triboar Trail should be a little less dangerous for our merchants to travel."
Sildar pops open the small chest and you see that he has presented you with500 gold pieces. Split evenly(Sorry Cypress rolled for it) that is:
2
166 - Cypress
167- Halben
167- Fawn
Sildar then looks to you.
"Now, I must get Gundren to the Shrine of Luck. Is there anything else you wish to speak of or questions you have for me?"
Halben looks to Harbin and says "I am sorry, the orcs are still out there. Unfortunately, there is a danger greater than the orcs that has our attention at the moment."
Halben will wait for the response and then will begin to head to the location of the Lionshield Coster and try to find Lady Wintercrest.
Westminster Harbin becomes redfaced and starts to say something before Sildar gives him a look and he sulks away.
"Thank you, adventurers. You have done more than anyone could have asked for. Now if you excuse me, I must get Gundren help."
Sildar carries Gundren out the door.
You approach the Lionshield Coster and see the familiar sign shaped like a wooden shield with a blue lion painted on it. As you enter you see a few familiar faces. The first is the proprietor of this building of the Lionshield Coster, the frazzled red head of Linene Graywind. She is behind the counter and appears to be polishing some plate armor vigorously.
Standing at the counter you see the Half-Elf Daran Edermath who you previously ran into here and also Fawn and Cypress met him at his Orchard. The Half-Elf's usual bare upper is covered by a tunic. Standing next to Daran is another Half-Elf you have not seen previously. He wears what appears to be leather armor and carries a quarter-staff. They are conversing with a Human Female with her black hair tied back into a bun. Halben recognizes her first as he sees the bluish ghost hand. Lady Wintercrest is still here!
Halben will approach from Lady Wintercrest where she can see him. With a smile on his face. When he reaches within normal conversation range he will say "Lady Wintercrest, it is I Riccard. As promised I have returned." Halben will then extend his hand. If she presents her's, he will grant it a kiss.
Lady Wintercrest's eyes light up and she smiles when she see's Halben. Daran and the half-elf step to the side to allow you to approach and keep an eye on you.
"Riccard I am so glad you are safe!", Lady Wintercrest says as she extends her human hand to receive a kiss from Halben.
Lady Wintercrest's eyes scan the group and she sees there are now only three of you when before there were four. You are able to spot this is what's going through her mind. You think back to the night after you took Cragmaw Castle. You all called out and even Cypress and Fawn tried to track Conway but it seemed like he just vanished into thin air with nothing to be found.
"Did... Did one of you fall in the battle? It is so great to see you but I am saddened that we were not able to aid you more.", Lady Wintercrest says as she lowers her head.
Lady Wintercrest then perks up as if she has forgotten something.
"Oh, I am sorry allow me to introduce you to Daran Edermath who lives here in Phandalin and his associate Leosin Erlanthar who is here on business." Lady Wintercrest says as she motions to the two half-elves.
"Yes, I have met these adventurers. I know the pain of the fallen. I hope the battle she speaks of where you may have lost someone was not at the Old Owl Well. I would hate to think my concern lead to someone's death...", says Daran Edermath sullenly.
"Ah! Well I guess, nice to meet you... I do request that you do not share my name or that I am in town.. As I asked you not to Lady Wintercrest," says Leosin flatly.
"Oh Leosin! These are good people. They saved some of our caravan from certain doom! I saw the dead Bugbear and goblins scattered on the fields." says Lady Wintercrest.
"Ah, our fourth was not lost in battle. I have dispatched him on another mission in preparation for our next adventure." Looking at Leosin, Halben says with a smirk "And don't worry. I have already forgotten your name." He then continues talking towards the Lady "Did I interrupt an important conversation? If so, I could always come back. Maybe around dinner time to take you somewhere more... " Halben looks around the room for a second then says with a wink "... exciting."
