Elric pulls his hand away from Marc and skulks back into the inn with a sneer. Killian slams on the door with her fist, but doesn't seem to draw the attention of those within. There is no response, and the poetry doesn't even stutter.
Tracking: There are two buildings in this narrow side street. The Firestar Chariot Inn has two side alleys that wrap around its back. The Poetry Society has a side alley.

The fat halfling has still not noticed Hox following him at a distance, reaching the main streets of Sundabar. Ahead, the main circle of the city seems to be barricaded; a small crowd has gathered by a number of armed guards turning them away. The halfling takes to a street to the left.
Zane notices what Killian is about to do and slows her down. "This just got interesting, but lets check the alley first. This way." Once they're in the alley he continues, "I'll take a look from a third side" and he climbs up the side of the building to check out the roof (racial ability gives Zane a climb speed).
She sighs, but nods, "Aren't these just poets? Your caution seems, cautious... but very well." And she'll go with Zane (and maybe Gruun?) into the alley to (as she thinks of it) stand around some more.

The short alley leads around the building to the back, where a small trio of steps leads to a back door. There are no windows on the back side of the building, and it is as dilapidated as the front.
Zane climbs to the roof fairly easily, but sees nothing of interest from above, except that the nearby rooftops could provide quick access over the alley's walls with a well-timed leap.

Hox continues to follow the paunchy halfling. The halfling does not look to be guarding or holding anything, and in fact has picked up the pace even further, almost breaking out into a run.
Gruun moves up the steps to the side door an bangs on it with his fist. If no one answers and no noises change from behind the door, he'll break it open.

Marc finds the door to be locked. Gruun knocks, hearing no response, then throws the full weight of his body into the door. The slam reverberates through the alley, but the door holds firm, sturdier than expected.
Though the attempts at breaking the door were quite noisy, Zane doesn't see anybody flee the building.

Hox picks up his pace but even with his remarkable speed still finds himself moving only slightly faster than the halfling, who nervously glances behind himself and breaks out into a full sprint. He attempts to roll a nearby wagon into Hox's path, but finds it locked in place, and continues sprinting with a frustrated groan.
Tracking: Hox is 90 feet from the halfling and slowly gaining ground.
OOC: The chase is on! Each participant in a chase can use the Dash action freely 3 times plus their CON modifier. After that, they must pass a CON save for each Dash action or suffer a level of exhaustion.

Counting down, Marc and Gruun slam their shoulders into the back door together, this time throwing it open under their weight with an unusually loud crack. The small room inside looks to be some sort of alchemical lab. A desk stands with various beakers and jars laid out onto it, along with bottles filled with a liquid that looks like black blood.
The rest of the room is in disarray; a window shutter is leaning up against a chair, and a few broken monocles lay along the floor. Under the desk is a spyglass with a small sheet of parchment attached to it.
There is a closed wooden door across from Gruun and Marc, and another on the left side of the room.
Zane still sees no change from atop the structure.
Hox continues to gain ground on the halfling, now running freely through the streets of Sundabar. The kobold begins to slip on a spilled liquid emerging from a side alley, but quickly regains his footing without losing a step.
Tracking: Hox is 75 feet from the halfling and slowly gaining ground. Hox has used two free Dash actions. The halfling has used two free Dash actions.
OOC: Hox doesn't need to make CON saves for dashing yet. With a CON modifier of +2, and the three free actions he automatically gets, he gets a total of 5 free Dash actions before having to make a CON save.
Zane raises his voice a bit to be heard inside, "Anything? Anyone in there? I'm coming back down." Before doing so he will cast Detect Magic and take a look around on the roof and down all sides of the building. If nothing interesting presents itself he will climb down and join the others in searching the building.
After Gruun and Marc have entered the room, Killian will walk in behind them with a sigh. She will look behind the busted door, at the door, to see if the "unusually loud crack" has an obvious source. Then, if nobody else has done so yet, she will survey the table top, and then, finally, she will crouch down and pick up the spyglass, reading the parchment if there is anything there to read.
OOC > She's not aces at Investigation, but that is what she is trying to do, in each of these three instances. She's probably mostly bored, and if anyone else is eager to do any of these three things first, she will let them.

Zane spends a moment to search for a magical presence, but does not sense any magic from the rooftop. However, once he enters the foyer to rejoin the party, the presence of magic immediately registers to his senses.
Marc examines the ground near the door for traps, and does not notice anything out of the ordinary.
Killian spends a moment walking through the room, surveying the party's findings. She finds nothing on the door that would indicate the source of the loud cracking sound. The beakers are empty, but the jars on the desk contain mushroom powder, saffron, and fat, though these do not register anything of note to Killian. There are also a few books scattered about the desk, which appear to be written in by two different hands. The notes scribbled within are arcane, and read like gibberish.
The scrap of parchment attached to the spyglass has two lines written on it in Common, and two in a language that Killian does not know:
The spy glass shows your fate.
A powerful weapon if it fell into enemy hands.
Tracking: There are three doors in this room; one that exits to the back alley, one across from it, and one to the left of it. Zane can sense the presence of magic and can use an action to see an aura around magical creatures or objects for 48 seconds.

Hox silently groans as the man speeds up. He'll go faster and most likely close their distance between each other.

Zane keeps watch on the roof, checking various sides from time to time to see if anyone suspicious is coming or going.
If others gain entrance in some way and nobody flees from any other side then Zane will climb down and follow the others in.
