OOC: Ok, coffeerite can see the map now; I've also sent copies to skulgryn and desarud while I figure out this hosting thing.
Khial moves forward (to L9), drawing his bow with a fluid movement and firing an arrow at the hobgoblin. The arrow flies true, but at the last possible moment the hobgoblin raises his shield -- stopping the arrow! The hobgoblin lowers his shield and sneers at the rogue.
The hobgoblin barks orders in the Goblin language to his minions, then walks forward (to E15) in a casual, almost contemptuous manner. Pulling out the longbow from his pack, he loads an arrow, then looses this at Epos: 6.
He is surprised and angered when, without any seeming effort, Epos dodges the arrow. He snarls as he prepares to draw another arrow from his quiver.
OOC: Ok, I think I sent the right maps to Desarud and Skulgryn now. I'll rely on e-mails for now, until I figure out why the images hosted on Google Photos keep disappearing.
OOC: Since you guys might ask, I checked your character sheets and none of you listed Goblin as a known language, so none of you know what the hobgoblin said.
OOC: Skulgryn -- you rolled well on the damage rolls? Unfortunately, you shouldn't be rolling advantage for Epos's attacks. An attacker using ranged weapons against melee opponents gets disadvantage on the attack; someone making a melee attack on an opponent with a ranged weapon does NOT get advantage on the attack. In this case, I'll just take your lower rolls.
With surprising speed, the elven monk closes the distance to the hobgoblin; appearing beside the goblinoid, he strikes with his staff and foot, connecting solidly -- with the goblin's chainmail armor!
The hobgoblin snorts in open contempt at your pathetic attacks; he seems to be daring Epos to wipe the smirk off of his face.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The Herr Doktor Professor shouts out to the party: "He just told one of his minions to bring up the rest of the patrol!"
He then moves behind Khial (M8), and mocks the hobgoblin from behind the safety of the rogue:
"Hobgoblin, hobgoblin,
Look down at your feet:
What's that comin'?
Epos's fist to knock out your teeth!"
Hobgoblin Wis save: 16.
The hobgoblin grits its teeth at the awful rhyme, seemingly hurt by the words. It takes 2 points of damage and will have disadvantage on its next attack.

One goblin (in C15) dashes west, crashing into the underbrush and disappearing from sight.
A second goblin moves behind one of the larger bushes (to D11), then looses an arrow at Xel: 8.
The third goblin moves west (to F19) and fires an arrow at Epos: 11. He then continues to move west (to J19) in an apparent attempt to flank the party.
Xel struggles to keep his composure. This is first true battle and he hopes not his last. His new companions are brave. He however knows he cannot survive getting hit by the goblins arrows. He'll need to make sure he has a suitable defense before he joins the fray.
Xel grasps his staff and concentrates. He recites the words of the spell he has memorized. The fingers of his off-hand quickly move in precise gestures. "Shield this form from battle's scars. Reflect, deflect, defend from mar." Xel casts Mage Armor on himself.
OOC: Here's the new map; please tell me if you can see it now that's it's on Google+ (this time the link ends with .png, which is supposed to be a good thing).
OOC: The other goblin who disappeared - which bush is he hiding in - M18 or O15. These are the only bushes in his path which give him a possibility of hiding, right?
OOC: I really hope we all pull through this. An additional fighter or cleric would be welcome. Never getting used on how squishy wizards are at level 1.
OOC: Rules Clarification - Just to make sure I still remember stuff:
1) If I attack a creature who is beside an ally - I don't get Advantage unless my ally took the Aid/Help action prior to my attack.
2) Since the Hobgoblin is beside Epos who is threatening him, if Khial shoots him with his bow or engages him in melee and hits him, Khial can deal his Sneak Attack damage.
3) Assuming we know which square a creature is hiding, we can attempt to attack it but with Disadvantage (because it is hidden).
4) If a creature is hiding, if my Passive Perception is high enough, is he revealed at least for my character? Is this determined prior to his attacking since if he is not hidden, the creature does not get advantage on attacks against my character.
5) In terms of determining cover, do I draw a line from the centre of the square I occupy to the centre of the target's square, and if the line intersects any portion of the square containing cover then the target has cover from me and I have cover from the target.
OOC: The image is blank, it just shows a no-entry symbol instead
Khial moves one square forward and fires an arrow in the direction of the hobgoblin:
Attack: 15 Damage: 8

One more try, this time using the soon-to-be defunct Google+.
Epos looks at the hobgoblin with a perplexed but calm expression. "No parley this time."
Epos moves to F15 and attempts to stop the hobgoblin with a blow from his quarter staff and follows up with a kick to the hobgoblins gut... Attack:
OOC: Sorry, learning how to use the dice tool... Deleted, try again...
OOC: Quarter Staff (advantage, Melee vs. Ranged)
Attack: 25 Damage: 19
OOC: Unarmed strike (advantage)
Attack: 13 Damage: 7
OOC: Hmmm... Why does dice roll seem to always max on damage?

The large bush gave the goblin some cover, but it also appeared to interfere with his accuracy: his arrow flies wide, missing Xel.
The third goblin thought he had a bead on Epos, but once again the elf effortlessly dodges the arrow.
Xel, now you're up!
