Ahem...like I said, we came to help; to set you at ease; to get you the rest you so rightly deserve. If you help show us what tormented this household, we can put things right.
Thorn swoops down effortlessly toward Barnaby. She leans down at her waist and turns her head a bit, very much like a child examining something strange and unexpected. Aren't you strange, little man, she asks. Her voice sounds like it's coming from the other end of a tunnel. We would like to rest. We would like that very much.
I know there is a monster in the basement. The way to the basement is through the attic. She points to the dollhouse, which Fope is continuing to study. Fope, make your Investigation check with advantage. I think our little brother is in terrible danger, too. Maybe he's dead? She notices the wolf cub in the room, and glides over to examine it closely. Revenge is resting from all the jogging around in the house, and eyes her suspiciously. But he doesn't seem to mind.
What tormented the household. What an interesting question. After all these years in this place, the house does not change. Was it tormented before? Is it tormented now?
Oh, children, I'm so sorry to hear your story. We'll try and make this right. And all this happened years ago yet the first few floors look like the maid cleaned them yesterday and...other things we found seemed more recent. This house is most complex.
Fope, do you see any path to the basement in that dollhouse?
Well, young lady, I am from a far away city called Waterdeep, but now I wander the land looking for innocents that need help and evils that need quashing. In short, I look for situations just like this one.
By household, I was not referring to your home here, but rather your family. I was asking what happened to you and your parents. Perhaps they were tinkering with some forces which they did not fully understand? Would you know anything about the rituals that they performed or who they performed them for?
You know back home I have three children of my own. They're all grown up though. But, the two of you make me think of them when they were small. Children like you are the most beautiful precious things that we have, and, again, I would do what I can to help you.
Fope does discover, with the tip from Rose, a secret door elsewhere in the attic that looks like it leads to a stairwell down into the basement. It's in a larger room on the west side of the attic. The basement itself is not depicted in the dollhouse.
Oh, our family. Well, I don't think Mother like Baby Walter very much. And there were more meetings in the basement then, and we were locked in here more often then, but there were also meetings in the basement before. And we were locked in here before. But since Baby Walter, we don't see our parents so much and we were locked in here more often. I don't know what they talked about. Father was very smart, I'm sure he understood, but I don't know what they were doing. Rituals? I don't know.
I don't know how you would make it right. What can you do for us? I don't know. I think we're trapped here. She looks dolefully down at the two skeletons holding hands.
The doors in the dollhouse open and shut, like you would expect in a dollhouse. The bits of furniture move as well. The only thing moving without you touching it is the little figures that look like you, in the attic. If you attempt to manipulate those figures, they immediately become still and go where you put them in the dollhouse. Once there, they take the stairs, operate the doors, and so on, to get back to the attic room where you are all now gathered.
Thorn has gotten quite close to you. He has reached out one hand to touch you, but stopped when his sister urged him to do so. He is looking at you with wide, curious eyes. Definitely not hostile. Just an interested little ghost boy.
You make your way to the large room on the due west edge of the attic. You can now see it in Roll20.
This dusty chamber is packed with old furniture (chairs, coat racks, standing mirrors, dress mannequins, and the like), all draped in dusty white sheets. Near an iron stove, underneath one of the sheets, is an unlocked wooden trunk containing the skeletal remains of the family’s nursemaid, wrapped in a tattered bedsheet stained with dry blood.
You find the secret door in the northwest corner of the room, where Fope had observed it in the dollhouse. It opens into a narrow spiral staircase going down.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kif looks at the poor girl's remains, shaking his head. Perhaps once we're done here we can torch this place as a great big funeral pyre for all these unfortunate souls caught in this madness.
Kif will lead the way (meatshield) down the stairs, looking for traps
Barnaby pads along behind Kif and Fope with Puddin in the rear.
If there was more light I’d say we should have Fope scout ahead in the shadows, but as it seems to be one big shadow, it wouldn’t be much use. I really have to work on that spell to let him see in the dark. When we get to town maybe there will be a place to buy a scroll. I’m pretty sure I could figure it out if I had a scroll.

Where do you come from, little man?

So, are you the same children that approached us outside the house and asked for our help?
We haven't been outside of this room in a very long time. We died in here, many, many years ago.
Thorn! Don't touch the little man. He's trying to help.
Føpé will turn his attention to Thorn, and back away with a smile.
Did his experiment playing with the door in the doll house yield any results?

Perhaps we should proceed to the basement as it doesn't seem that there is much for us to do here.
I’ll prod you to the room that Fope identified tomorrow, unless anyone has more business in here.
agreed, we move on and see if we can find the real secret door, no need to loot the room in front of the 'children'

My percepting rolls have been remarkable shit lately
Well, it's a dark and narrow circular stairwell. Perfectly thematic. :)

Could you send your owl down now
Right. Owl.
Tulip! Go have a look.
