Harivaldr's eyes bulged as he fully realized the predicament that they were in. "This isn't a cave," he shouted as he ran, "It's a pocket dimension, and it's breaking down! Nobody stop running!"
Athletics: 11
Mercifully, everyone seemed to make it in one piece before the dimension collapsed behind them, even if it seemed that they weren't out of the woods yet, so to speak. "Right," he nodded at Dathyra and the dryad, "does anyone have any nose for special trees? Maybe see a fairy circle around somewhere?"
Dathyra watches as the Dryad regains consciousness. The once proud and fierce Dryad is now weak and frail. She looks up at you grateful to be delivered from her torment. "You came, Thank you. I am Shanareen."
She hears the questioning mentions of her tree, and anguish comes over her. The tale she relates to you is much the same as the vision that assaulted you upon entering the cave.
"I was magically ripped from my tree by Accertep and Elpam. Elpam kept me weak so I could not resist. The meenlocks were drawn to the abomination of magics and they tortured me as it is their nature. I cannot say why I was kept alive.." She seems to send her senses outward searching.."There is grave danger. We must find my tree."
"If what we saw in that vision still holds true, it should be just outside in the garden," Dathyra said. She then realized that in the last moments of that vision, Elpam had been torn to shreds by the tree, angry at the dryad being ripped from it. Her stomach turned again, and she tried not to remember the gorier parts of that vision. "I just hope it's still there." And not still angry, she thought to herself.

Setting the fey down. "Your tree is just outside in the garden. Prepare thyself, for the condition it is in might be shocking. I offer you a portion of my strength for what is to come." Before drawing his hand away Jarlas uses lay on hands to give her 5 more points of healing. Then drawing his trident he leads the way out of the hut to where the tree was in the vision.
Shanareen absorbs the healing and nods. "Thank you, Sir Knight." She does not seem excited when Jarlas tells her that her tree is outside.
"My tree is not here. I still have a connection to it," She closes her eyes and somehow searches for something.
"My tree has been twisted into something dark, murderous and...hungry. Its fruit ripened and they grew into terrible creatures. They sought out meat and provided the tree with cattle and chicken. I can feel it the tree wants more. More food and more fruit. It knows of the town, the Northwoods Rest. I can feel its intent. It feels the town is weaker than the orcs. It will feed on all within. It will grow stronger and bear more fruit and march on the orcs. I don't know where this will end."
Stopping mid stride the paladin turns back. “Do you know if there is a way to undo what has been done to your tree? If not we shall see to it that it does no further harm, though I would not have you watch that.”
"I think we can learn more if we go through Elpam's Laboratory. Perhaps the way to proceed will be revealed. I think that if I could be re-united with the tree that I can sway its intent and restore it to good and beauty. "
Dathyra felt a little unsure about the detour to the lab. Time seemed to be of the essence here, and she was afraid of what would happen if they were too late. "I suppose..." she said. "So long as you feel well enough to travel, the sooner we get to Northwoods Rest, the better."

Work has been so crazy. Sorry about being missing.
Sen entered into an almost catatonic rage as the meenlocks continued their assault on the party. Slicing them down and now covered in blood, Sen was at a loss for words. This was all so strange to him. Never before had he ever been in such a position as this. As the cavern began to collapse around him, he snapped back to reality. "Run!" he yelled to the others. Seeing the large triton take the dryad, Sen made a run for the end of the tunnel.
Acrobatics: 16
Sen reaches into his pack and pulled out a bite of cured meat to chew on. "I have to agree. The sooner we get there, the better. We best make haste." Sen starts to organize a few things in his pack before slinging it over his shoulder.
”It would seem our path has been set. Does any one know he way to the lich’s lair? Shanareen, do you intend to accompany us or shall you rest here until our return?”
"Yes Sir Knight, I intend to help undo the madness created by Elpam and Accertep. Their laboratory is close by, hidden behind the waterfalls."
She leads the way and it is indeed close by. It is one of the caves that the party spotted when first entering the valley.
Once you enter you find the horrible stench of rot overwhelms your senses. The cavern itself, dimly lit by the sun outside, is roughly 40 foot in diameter with a 30foot high ceiling. The cavern floor is littered with rotted vegetable matter, and the corpses of several twisted abominations are scattered about. At the rear of the cavern are several workbenches with various laboratory detritus strewn about: beakers, flasks, bamboo piping, note books and various parchments are scattered upon them. Several shelves covered with pottery, ostensibly for plant propagation, can also be seen within. From its entrance, this certainly looks like a mad druid’s lab. Further investigation will be required if you are to find the information you seek.
Moving into the room a bit Jarlas takes up a sentry position to watch for danger as more qualified folks search for information. He will go to help any one who asks in their search though.

This was certainly not a comfortable place to be in, Dathyra thought, at least not to her. Besides trying to ignore the odor, there was just so much disorder and disorganization in this place. Dathyra was sometimes forgetful and misplaced the odd item here or there, which annoyed her more fastidious and neat brother, but compared to this, she must seem like some sort of neat freak. If they had any hope of getting back to Northwoods Rest in time, rummaging through all of this certainly wasn't going to be the way to do it. Still, she tried not to complain as she began sifting through the scattered papers and notebooks. With more eyes searching through them, perhaps they could get done faster.

Harivaldr wrinkled his nose at the sights and smells that assaulted him within the "laboratory." He'd never claim to be any sort of proper wizard or alchemist, but even so he had his doubts as to the legitimacy of any discoveries made in these horrifying conditions. Seeing that Dathyra was moving to look through the scattered notes in the laboratory area, Harivaldr decided to turn his attention elsewhere. Through briefly, he took a moment to look over the scattered corpses in their myraid states of decay, more to confirm what he already suspected than to really try and discover anything new, then turned towards the shelves loaded down with pots to give a more thorough inspection. As he moved, he said aloud, "Call out if you find anything. Or... well. You know."
A thorough search of the workbenches reveals four potions of superior healing, a potion of barkskin, a stoppered ever-fresh beaker containing thirty good berries, various hallucinogenic fungi, and several hand scrawled, dated notebooks.
Shanareen becomes very interested in the notebooks and looks through them with some focused intensity. "I thought as much," she says pointing to a passage of Elpam's writing. "There is a chance I can regain the tree." She continues reading and her expression of hope dims a bit. "There are so many.."
If one of the party should choose to read the notebook:
“Accertep’s plan, kidnap a dryad’s tree. Genius. Weakened the dryad, forced it out, captured it. We imbued the tree with a fiendish will. We keep Shanareen – that’s what the dryad calls herself – alive for now. Unsure if her death would kill the tree. We must keep her weak, keep the tree strong, and keep her away from the tree. Accertep believes she could recapture her tree if it were weakened and she was strong. The tree is showing at least 20 fruit, which will be the start of quite an army --and it's just the beginning."
Dathyra considered Shanareen's words while she read the passage in the notebook. "Hm, so, if this suggests that the tree was made strong by weakening you. So, I wonder if the inverse could be true? If you've healed, does that perhaps slow the tree down? And 20 fruit. We encountered, what, four of them? So, that means there could potentially be an army of 16 closing in on the village." She said all this quickly as she did the mental math. "I also wonder how far away the tree can be to control the fruit? It would seem wise then to go in search of the tree first rather than trying to fight off the army. At least, that might be the better use of our time."
She seemed to realize that she had been rambling. "Sorry, I'm just not sure what the best course of action is. There are only five of us...six if Merric wakes up soon."

"Yes, we will need to find the tree but it won't be alone. By now there might be more of them. Northwood's Rest is going to need warning, and an army if you have one."
Harivaldr stroked his beard in thought, trying to make sense of their current conundrum. "I think it would be wise to warn both the orcs and the townsfolk, assuming we have a means of doing so, but either way I'm not sure if there's anything else we can do for them..." His eyes lit up in a moment of inspiration, "...unless we kill two birds with one stone and send the orcs to warn and join forces with the townsfolk! If all goes well on our end, the orcs should only be in town for a few days at most, and if the remnants of Patrick's search party and ourselves all were to vouch for them, then there's a good chance we might actually convince them to stand together! It's not an army, but I think it's the best chance both groups would have for survival."
”An....interesting plan. Alas, the orcs moving toward the town in force will be seen as an act of aggression no matter who tells them other wise. With the press of time our surest course would be to face the tree now. After the threat is gone we can work toward cementing peace between village and tribe. Shanareen, can you sense the tree?”
