"I think you had better see to your man first. Most regrettable. Hardly makes a good impression on visitors, you know. If that's how you treat your own lackeys, how can we trust you with our cash?"
Stepping back, he puts a hand on Titus's pauldron, casting guidance under his breath. "You're turn."

Titus furrows his brow as he watches the scene unfold before him. “Wait a minute... you’re not tax collectors at all! Just simple bandits! Look... We came into this dungeon because we are ready to tackle the secrets of the Undermountain. If I wanted to chase down bandits I would have stayed in the guard. I assure you that we are more than capable of defending ourselves and I suggest you leave now or we will be forced to rid this place of you and your goons.” He holds his ax means I fly over his head and starts to slowly move forward towards Utkarl.

This room has three statues standing atop stone plinths in the middle of the room, facing east. They are 6-foot-tall statues depicting male Waterdavian nobles clad in decorative plate armor. Lying at the base of the central statue are the bones of a long-dead hobgoblin and a white wooden staff broken in half. Carved into the stone base of each statue is a name: Elyndraun (south statue), Ruathyndar (central statue), and Onthalass (north statue). These names have been crossed out with chalk; beneath them, new names have been added in another language.
Titus steps forward to examine the body of the hobgoblin, and tries to determine how long it’s been there.
He also looks at the chalk writings and looks more closely to see if it’s written in Goblinoid script. And, he examines the white staff to see if it could have made the writings.

Titus only knows Common and Draconic, so he wouldn't know goblinoid if it was written on his own arm by a goblin. It is also none of the languages that Morph, Laniel, Atuan, or Rethan know. The hobgoblin has been dead for months or even years, since it is only bones that are left. The statues do not seem to be especially novel or even interesting.
"If we try to have joy run her paint through this room, won't the thugs just dispel her out of spite? They might damage the line as well - perhaps we need to... deal with them."

Rethan sends Midnight slinking off in the direction the bandits went, hoping the familiar can keep track of them without being spotted to warn the group if they start to come back.

Looking at the writing, he simply shrugs. "It's not any language I recognize."
”I say we continue on through the passage north, we can continue to follow the right wall.” states Titus, he then adds flatly “Besides, those men are cowards. Nothing to worry about from them.”
“As for Joy and her magic paint, let’s explore a bit more and get a better sense of the size of this place before we paint more of the trail. We are likely not taking the most... direct route.”
"Well, I'm not sure direct or not is a problem, and having one end of the line nearby could be very helpful, if we find something we have to run from."
"On the other hand, it does slow us down a bit."
Morph looks between his friends,
"What do you all think? Leave it here and come back later, or continue painting as we go?"
Laniel says, "I don't think we need to worry about those bandits. Let's follow that passage you all are talking about. As for the paint, if we have enough, let's keep painting."

The passage turns west and leads the party direclty back into the room they left. A passage leads west out of the room and stairs lead down to the north, where Midnightfollowed the bandits.
"If we're wanting to avoid the bandits, I vote we check out what's this way," Rethan waves toward the passage to the west. "We can come back to the stairs later if there's nothing else here."

Utkarl turns back to the group, waving his scimitar around as he speaks. "So, what's it going to be? 25 gold or..."
"The thing is," says the man next to him. "I was making more money as a cobbler's apprentice. Sure, we have a few larfs but..."
"Dell!" says Uktarl in anger. "Shut. Up."
"Yeah," says a voice behind them somewhere. "What's gotten into you, Dell?"
"That's exactly what I'm talkin' about, Uktarl. You treat us..."
Uktarl swipes his blade at Dell a single time. Scimitar Attack: 21 Damage: 8
Utkarl's blade pierces Dell in the gut. "Damn it, Uktarl! groans Dell, and slinks away to the north.
Utkarl turns back to the group, his scimitar dripping with Dell's blood. "Now, where were we?"
"I think you had better see to your man first. Most regrettable. Hardly makes a good impression on visitors, you know. If that's how you treat your own lackeys, how can we trust you with our cash?"

"Yeah nothing of interest as far as I can tell."
Morph looks in the direction the enemy went and then back out behind them.
