Johnathon doesn't need a horse, but has one anyway. A beautiful black (and very young) horse with a white diamond on his forehead, named Midnight. John casts Speak with Animals as a ritual and Detect Magic just in case, and hops onto his horse. Lets Go, Midnight! Onwards! Diamond Formation!
(I do this for OOC. Diamond Formation could be our order, front line as the tip, fragile in the back, etc.)

((OOG Nice roll, MC!!! When in large numbers, single file is best to hide the number of people travelling with you. In a small group such as this, and these woods not being too dense, a diamond formation would actually be not a bad idea to spread out the group and their coverage. Never being in a cavalry unit, I really ain't the one to talk about best formations on horseback. lol Artillery formations are way different...lol ))
Due west is the course you take, knowing the game trail that you are following should lead you quickly to Stickler's Creek. With Sylrie leading the way, the party departs. The LT rides close to Sylrie, with her ever watchful eye looking into the trees. The rest of the party is spread out with Kora, Kash, and Sarge in the back.
After about two hours of travel through the tranquil woods, you know that you are halfway to your destination. Midday is becoming later afternoon.
You are crossing a small clearing when the ground erupts underneath your feet.
I need two things, Marching order, and Initiative.

OOC > I'm back! Kora is riding at the back, but yes, it makes sense for Kashkaval to brush our trail away with Mage Hand. That seems like it should be standard operating procedure. But if Sarge wants to be last, she'll let him.
Kora did spend some time looking at the map... (Wisdom check: 19)
And while she is alert to danger on patrol, this has been a somewhat sleepy ride... (Initiative: 13)

Appearing before the party is two large enormous many-legged insects, their long antennae twitching in response to any movement around it. Their legs end in sharp hooks adapted for burrowing and grasping its prey, and with powerful mandibles can snap a small tree in half.

Sylrie can't believe what he's seeing, these are huge! He quickly goes for an arrow from his quiver, nocks it and aims at the Ankheg closest to him!
OOC: Not sure the battlefield specifics, Sylrie would attempt to put some distance between him and the Ankheg if they are on him. Being mounted I am not sure what you have to do to get your mount to disengage. Sylrie can use the Disgengage action as a bonus action if needed. Otherwise if there is an Ankheg within 5 feet of one of his allies he'd use that opportunity to sneak attack the target.
(I’m imagining it as this. S is Sylrie, L is Whitehand, P is Perceval, J is Johnathon, I is Isuzu, Ka is Kash, Ko is Kora, Sgt. is Sarge. That’s how I interpreted Diamond Formation, anyways. The Ankhegs, I think, are in front of you. I’m going to ask the DM something, and then do my turn.

Attack: 22 Damage: 10
