Zeins eyes shot down for the first time, as his gauntleted fingers laced together - Considering.
After a few moments pause, the paladin finally took in a full breath Well. You ask a question that cannot be answered Yua.. Zhara. I am not part of an organization. There is but one other within the city who shares my goals, and the two gnomes here. The rest of this Island is as corrupt as a devil of the hells. Trading in the misery of sentient beings for their own pleasure, carnal desires, lust, hatred, and amusement. Most of this, I have done myself, using my divinity to hide my intentions. I've always believed in fighting fire with fire. I am not above deception if those I am dealing with are deceptive themselves.
As for my skill at arms, you have yet to see it. But it has been forged in the very fires of the sun. I have seen far more than you likely ever will in my short life. But I take your compliment nonetheless.
And the northern half had been conquered long ago. But as of three months ago, we slowly began to hear less and less about the area. Though I do not currently know what has happened. It could simply be a difference of opinions, or it could be something worse. But from here, it is hard to tell, between the trees blocking our vision, and the high walls of the city. And those few who might know either know nothing, or have not revealed it to anyone i can discover information from.
For Zhara:
As he speaks, you begin to see and hear the surface thoughts of the Paladin. Your mind feels hot. (going in the same order as he responded above)
As Zein speaks of how 'small' their organization is, you see a world of black, with only four stars shimmering within it, surrounded by red, hateful stars, and many more black stars, all mulling about. you get the sensation that the red stars are the townspeople, and the black ones are the slaves, falling into despair around them. Unable to fight their fate.
As his attention shifts to his own personal description, you see a black hole, in the center of the sun, slowly growing, being suppressed but only just so.
When his thoughts shift to combat, and his experience... you see vague flashes of memory. Beholders disintegrating towns, Illithids trapping innocents in the underdark, a flaming blade, embedded in the rocks of the darkness. Towns burnt to the ground, corpses now little more than ashes.. children dead, blood everywhere.. too late in some cases.. and just barely on time in others. Small crime rings, dealing in prostitution of those too innocent.. rage, fire, devotion, and pity. Many many other horrific scenes played like a backdrop as you see a mental image of his face, contorting in reaction to each image you saw as if you could see his inner turmoil.
This continues for what feels like your own life flashing before your eyes, except it was his, the paladins light flickering.. despair setting in, no matter how many bad things he prevented, two more fell in to close the gaps like a Hydra. One explicitly vivid scene replaced the others. A woman, with strawberry blonde hair, so bright it was a soft shade of orange. She was being accosted after having been kidnapped [this information seeming to fill itself as you watched] from her family to a bandits hideout, and it was clear their intentions were to use her against her will. Screaming. The paladins entire form bursting into flames, carrying the same sword he had pulled from the underdark, and in that blaze, he caught their attention, sparing the woman the immediate fate. A flurry of blows followed, the paladin like a small star never took a single hit, parrying every blow with his shield, or sword, only to riposte for a finishing blow. When the bandits had been dealt with, the paladins flames went out. His skin, charred and burnt, collapsed.
The next thing he saw was the face of an angel, as she took care of him.. the darkness that had been settling into his heart vanished.. replaced with love as the woman he'd saved.. had in turn saved him.
The faintest of smiles was on his face until that memory vanished, going back to it's more stoic demeanor.
The last part, was mostly blank.. the island itself had been conquered a century ago, and small trade routes mapped out, but much as the paladin had said, he knew nothing more, outside of rumors that fighting had broken out at some point. beyond that, he knew nothing more.
Throughout all this, you felt his ire at you.... no... not you but your people.... he didn't judge you negatively on the personal level, but your people were known, for what they were and did... but it was clear he didn't hate you. He just had no reason to trust you fully yet. Even now, you could sense tension. His arm was ready to strike, should you prove to be an enemy.
This was only a fraction of what was going on in this mans mind at all times.
In the end if you sought to investigate, you would have very few early leads.
Clearing his throat as he shifted his focus to address Gustav. Sighing a bit, he says The list was sent by magic, I simply remembered it entirely. But you can look in the bag if... Zein stops, noticing Wonder there. And offering her a soft smile, and carefully petting the Tabaxi's head Come now child, I need to take this to your father.
After whatever Wonders reaction is, happens, regardless of what it is, Zeing will continue, taking the Sack to Gustav, if at all possible
Continuing, Zein says Unfortunately, being a paladin means you see such omens all the time. Your lord telling you through puzzles and visions is a part of life. Though I have noticed that ever since whatever has been happening to the north, the omens have gotten much darker. Sinister. And I've often seen a snake devouring other people their souls being utterly destroyed just before I would awaken. So I suppose I could say 'yes'?
For Zhara
This time you see images of a giant snake, stretching on for what felt like eternity, shrouded in shadowstuff, devouring the souls and bodies of people. Cursing some. Leaving none.
Zein unintentionally answered Vola's questions through the others questions, the primary threats on the island as far as he was aware, were the disappearances, and the slaver mindset of the citizens of Arandorianis.
And Mrs.. Vola was it? We cannot simply traipse around town. Gustav, his kitten, the lizardfolk. etc.. will all need to wear fake slave markings, or be the true masters of stealth at all times, or we will soon be found out. So if we wish to go into the city, they must accept the marks. I am not opposed to searching the city -with help- one more time. But After that i must insist within a week.. at most, we head north. Whether we go eastward or westward, I care not. But We will need to go. Or I will go myself. I cannot wait forever... for every passing day, is another day lost...
Wonder freezes up completely at the touch, and says nothing. Anyone with a clear view of her face can see her stare wide-eyed in panic so potent as to paralyze her. Only when Zein stops does she relax, and following a fitful glance between paladin and fellow Tabaxi, she scampers over to hide behind him. The whole time Gustav had simply watched events play out, but with a guarded expression. Sighing, he pulls her around so that least she sat on his lap, and whispered something to her.
For those with a Passive Perception 15(or would like to roll to try to hear):
The language is not in common, but of a more gentle and whimsical tongue. Those that understand Sylvan, or just happen to have heard it often enough recognize it as Elvish. What it boils down to is a light admonishment, followed by a reminder about the feeling of her first song, and a promise not to let anything bad happen while he's around.
Whatever is spoken is enough to have Wonder tense up at first, then for her ears to fall as she nods numbly in agreement to them. As she turn to start dig into the food -- bothering not to take her seat elsewhere -- Gustav focuses back on Zein's words. He frowns at the mention of accepting marks, but held his tongue to the end. "She is more my pupil than kitten."He smiles proudly down at her. "Afraid the days of my sowing any seeds of that nature are well past... But more importantly, though Wonder here knows a song or to help masquerade as another, and Guss, Ka, and Nin have accepted a mark, I... have neither of these things to call upon my flesh. Nor will I accept the latter." He says, an air of finality to his voice.
"Besides! Aside from perhaps uprooting conspirators in feeding this 'Snake' entities gullet, or that of confronting darling Era's... estranged dies, at most we can expect is to get a few names at the price of active enimity. Which we may have already--" He glances to Zhara and Vola, adding in explanation. "The price of showing mercy to Slavers."
Looking back to Zein he continues, "A great risk risk, for a far more unpleasant end if some are to fail. If you all must insist on going to the city anyhow, as I've said previously, I will pose an obstacle. But neither I or Wonder -- Oww!"Wonder reels back as if ready to punch him again in the side. Sighing, he corrects, "I will not go. Dangers as these jungles are, at least they are straightforward. And it may be we discover more elsewhere and closer to the danger than what may be found in that hornet's nest of a city."
He pauses to let his words sink into mind. "On the subject of omens, I must say that I am impressed. Though the Wise One has deemed me fit to receive and conduct many miracles upon this plane, our connections is not such that my own visions have been quite as clear."Gustav brows knits in frustration. "At least... those that made clear a snake-like entities involvement in things. Rather, it has been indistinct as a void... one mindful enough to tease at destroy what few I still hold dear in this life."
All the talk of serpent entities made Zhara's scale's itch. What she had seen in the paladin's mind only made it worse. There were plenty of tales and warnings told to hatchlings... were there any she remembered that seemed similar? Or perhaps anything of the arcane variety that might narrow down what they were facing?
With all the talk of giant snakes, Vola blurts out "The giant constrictor snake can swim as fast as it can slither and it can see with it's tongue!"in a nervous attempt to stay relevant to the conversation. "Not to push a point, Mr... uh... Cat-man... but a mark does not have to be permanent." She pushes back from the table and struggles awkwardly to her feet trying not to jostle any plates or cutlery. Once upright she does some sprinkly gestures to show her hands are empty, then waves her left palm across her forehead - "Now you own me...." - pausing to let them see the mark, then moves it back to show that it's gone. "...and now you don't! (Prestidigitation)
I could maybe keep that on you for an hour - I might be able to mark a few of you. Not sure how it would look on fur but we could shave a patch - are you ok with shaving?
So we can still ask around.... but maybe you're right, if a native son can't find out what's happening.... I don't have a long history of strangers opening up to me unless they think I'm going to break their legs, and leg breaking usually attracts more attention than we want. Might be we'll learn nothing unless we can get one of us kidnapped, and for that to happen we'd need to know why they're taking them and who they're targeting - do we know even know who 'they' is ? We should find out who 'They' is. And what 'They' can do. And if they're doing it to the disappeareds - apart from your wife, Mr Z, I'm sure she's fine! - and what's left of them. I have some... uh... friends... who are very interested to find out. And help! I'm definitely here to help. So..... Is a false mark a step too far? Should we just bite the bolt and head North?"

All of the excitement at once has Burgee's feathers ruffled. He looks toward Kauil and softly chirps his distrust of the two newcomers. While still uncertain about the paladin's motivations, his remarks toward Burgee with regard to tenacity did set Burgee slightly at ease. He and Kauil exchanged a few thoughts as they moved toward the table. They remained vigilant as they took their places near Era. Burgee leaned into Era very quietly asking, "Why so trusting lass? The knight there I get, but these two? Kauil is still suffering his fate from the last souls who took advantage of his trust. Keep yer wits about you lest we have to dispatch these as well as we did the last."
Kauil continued to watch Zhara and Vola, eyes blinking but sharp. He trembled slightly but controlled it as best he could so that none save Burgee would notice. The arrival of these three set his memory racing to the day he was captured and the horrors he'd faced on the ship. He was in a position he'd rather never have known. And then a calm came over him as he thought through the ordeals and the vengence that the goddess of the wind would help him reap.
Burgee notices the calmness come over Kauil and nudges him a bit in the side adding in a thick pirate dialect, "Always with ya mate. We'll lay this wrong right." As he's talking to Kauil he notices Gustav whisper to Wonder, but can't make out the lingo. (Perception: 15) And just to seem at ease with the whole situation he looks across the table at the strangers and in a common tongue says, "Name's Burgee, this here is Kauil. I'll hope it's good to meet you, but pardon me if I'm a little slow on the uptake of new "friends". It's been a long few days and my free favors are all out at the moment."
Distrust was something to be expected but Zhara felt unexpectedly nettled. The whispers in strange tongues were clear to her (Passive Perception 16), even if she did not understand them. How do you prove you're worthy of trust? You couldn't. Time was the only option because trust was earned. All the tricks and games her kin played didn't change that. Of course, it went both ways. Her kin weren't worthy of trust but these? Part of her still found that idea utterly scandalous. Yuan-ti did not mingle with the lower races. Or so they said and then sent the Purebloods out to do just that. Yet another of their lies, Zhara thought to herself. Still, she hoped trust would come.
Vola's idea had merit and if Zhara was honest, she could do more for the group in a more... civilized setting. A long trek seemed inevitable, however, if whatever was causing the disappearances, nightmares and sundry ill-omens was based there. Hiding with her head in the sand did nothing. The serpentine nature of the omens worried her. Would they think her an agent for whatever was behind it? Zhara did not find she liked contemplating that possibility.
"Then it seems we will be traveling overland. Even with Vola's clever magic, entering the city would require us to maintain quite the deception. I agree with Gustav that it is a large risk for everyone involved and not all of us could sustain such an effort. So, we begin at first light tomorrow?"

Both Tabaxi stare in wonder at Vola at first, but shrug it off. At the name he merely brushed it off, having failed or forgotten to introduce himself. But as she carries on about the mark -- insisting at its lack of value -- a cheshire smile spreads on his face. While she carried on talking of other things, Gustav calmly motions for Wonder to sit aside so that he could stand up right and proper. But he waits still for Burgee's introduction to finish before striding over to Vola.
"My dear, dear orcish blooded friend. Might I have you arm? Just for a moment? Just something I feel needs to be explained to further erase any doubts." He requests, the smile long since muted to normal, and for all intents and purposes... (Deception: 26) like an exceptionally innocent one. If she accepts, he gently holds her wrist as he says, "Due to the nature of their side "business", our gnomish friends here perfected a far better false one. Or at least, one far more effective than a common trick of magic." As he spoke, he takes his other hand and trails a line down from her wrist to palm. "Now, I have not spoken to them at length on the subject, but they have been at this for quite some time. And I trust experience generally over a slapdash effort. Entertaining, though, they are.... Even so..."
In split seconds, the claws of the hand already holding her wrist extend and bite deep enough to draw blood. Gustav was not the strongest of old men, but prepared for a jerk away, he affirms his grip as much as possible while canting smiling and canting his head at Vola. If he isn't launched, knocked away, or worse, the smile turns cruel as he locks eyes with Vola. "You're a fine, slave. Nice and strong and so healthy too. We'll have to do something about those Tusks though. Terrible things. And that skin tone too! Ugh. Such a terrible parlor. What blighted god thought this was a good idea? I jest. You're nothing but souless, wretched, barbarous things! Is... Is that a scowl on your face?! How dare you dare you bear your fangs at me, you unsightly thing! To >look< upon me without being told no less! I'll have you AND that master of yours drawn and quartered for this affront!"
And on and on it goes for nearly a full minute stretch if given the chance. Each time he delivers an insult, the nails dig deeper and deeper until it feels as if one wrong attempt at trying to pull away would result in her wrist being slit wide open. And with every point he leans in, glaring at some points or looking smug in others. A plaintive 'mreowl' from Wonder gives him pause enough to release her. But his expression is no less stormy.
"My skin is thick. My heart is more covered in callouses than I dare to believe sometimes. But a mark is 'more' than just a mark here for me and them. And there is no scenario -- no self-delusions -- that you can spin that wont' result in our deaths, my death -- /if/ we're lucky -- Or.... that entire, vile city set ablaze." He lets go at that point, and folds his hands behind his back. "So, as I said. If you all wish to go to the city, I will not stop you. In fact, to some extent I'd even encourage it... but do not try to press me into it. Take the week or less so if you wish. I will remain in the area until those that go have returned. Or we follow Miss Zhara's suggestion."Having said his piece, and wanting to hear no further for the time being, he walks away to cool his head.
(To Rai: The list Gustav was referring to, was a request for the names and information on Noteable Merchants, and other noteable figures in the city.)
Era frowned after getting a small chiding from her kenku friend with being so ready to trust these new people so easily. "I-I just thought that... I mean, it if came down to it, we out number them!" She'd stammer in protest, but fell silent again, looking very conflicted with herself. He is right though, I shouldn't have... Damn it, I keep doing this. She ruffles her own hair in frustration, juts out her bottom lip in a pout and stays that way for a while until its brought up of what they planned to do.
"I'm fine with going into the jungle," She starts quietly, her face going from conflicted to something more serious. "I'm not ready for... that yet." Referring to Gustav's explanation of her extremely strangled ties. "Yeah, there's a lot of dangers there, but I think that we're very much capable of handling ourselves," She gives a glance over to Zein, Burgee and Gustav with Wonder. "And I'm sure you two can as well." Her eyes go to Vola and Zhara. She mutters to herself, "I'll just think of this as a trust exercise..." Before giving a forced smile. "I think first light tomorrow is a good idea."

Zhara's eyes narrow to slits as the cat grabs her friend's arm. So much for trust. Vola had made the suggestion in good faith, however naively made. This overstepped the mark and reeked of a poor excuse to inflict upon another the same very old wounds the tabaxi pretended to champion.
"Your performance was very convincing. It truly came from the heart. Perhaps your kit, Wonder, could benefit from the same demonstration?" Zhara said, lacing her words with her innate magic.

"True... I have been sheltering her quite a bit as of late. Pride of an old man, I suppose." Gustav says, as he slowly turns back to the table. Wonder, who at that point, had gone from staring worriedly over the table to trying to stuff her face full of soup freezes up at the word. "Wonder... Come here, won't you? I need your arm." He asks pleasantly enough while strolling back over to the table.
Wonder... (Wis Save(DC 15): 13) gulps, and if no other interferes, she steps aside to offer it. Red blossoms far quicker on her arm than Vola's. His grip is like pressed iron if allowed to get a hold of her. But Wonder... (Cha Save(DC: 15): 15) manages to dig deep. Even as tears streamed down her eyes, she never lets out a peep. She just kept her gaze lowered to the ground, and mouth pressed into a thin lipped line of determination.
Even after the pressure is released following the tirade, she refrained from looking up until Gustav gingerly placed a hand over her shoulder. "... As you can see... she didn't need it. You've been through worse, haven't you kitten?" He states more than ask, and receives a solemn nod in return. With a tired sigh, he takes however it takes to bandage up her wrist, and hisses something under breathe. The band glows(9) briefly, and some measure relief enters her face. But Gustav never sees as he had turned to walk towards the 'exit' of the doom.
(DM can redetermine what happens as is a NPC. Bu the mid-level dc was because of how much she trust Gustav as a side note despite the display.)

She extends her arm a little hesitantly.
"....uh, yeah, sure - do you have a trick of your own? Does it make tattoos? You'll have to teach me - I've always wanted a tattoo but I just can't commit to one des- OW!"
In split seconds, the claws of the hand already holding her wrist extend and bite deep enough to draw blood. Vola grits her teeth as the claw breaks the skin, setting her jaw and locking eyes with the hirsute hector, listening to him prattle. She'd grown up a halfblood in an orcish cave network. Pain was nothing new. But this… This is too much. There is a line. There is a god's-be-damned Line! Her pulse quickens to a pounding throb, and she feels the heat of The Eye as it's gaze finds her in the mist. Her blood surges, the tight, churning ball in her stomach begins to unfurl and claw up her throat, desperate to be birthed in blast of spittle and bile.
"The.....word.....is....PALLOR!"
She leaps to her feet, (Raid! Kill! Conquer!) snatching her wounded arm back (seize what is yours, greyblood!). Her legs tense to launch herself forward (Breed! Flourish! Grow your numbers!) and she pauses. What?? "Make up your ******* MIND!" she screams flipping the table over, kicking out and grinding against one of the legs until the frenzy passes, clinging to her father's words.
Emotion without reason is a whip. Reason without emotion is a mask. Knowledge without query is a cage. Wisdom without wonder is a grave. And perhaps leave all that pillaging and...er...erotic mugging to that idiot Mogdon.
As her vision clears, she dusts herself off, clears her throat and gratefully accepts any intervention that stems the bleeding.
It all, more or less happened so fast. The gnomes were busy stuffing their faces, oblivious to the tension in the air, having expected this group and Zein to get along, and Assuming the newcomers were just part of Zeins entourage or perhaps freed slaves? Zein himself couldn't see what the Tabaxi was doing until suddenly the snake person was clearly casting a spell. The gnomes remaining ignorant for now.
Just as Zein was about to draw his sword and shout 'Witch!' or something of equal sentiment, he saw the blood dripping down Vola's arm, some dots began connecting, Gustav's words, the blood on the arm... And in that time Gustav began doing the same thing to the poor Kitten. By this time, Zein was spiraling upward to standing.. the kittens arm now bloodied, Zeins face incredulous at the events unfolding before him. He did not trust the Yuan-ti yet, but he would never have attacked her without due cause or at-least and extremely high amount of corroborating evidence to do so.
Finally, Vola seemed to seethe, though she shouted the least expected retort he could imagine, before spilling the table over and... satisfying herself with it for a time.... Just before both respective parties receive healing. The Cracklestaves jumping as their food was thrown to the dirt, before seeing a 'sight' and fleeing indoors to protect their innocent eyes.
Zein shouts out What in all the heavens are you all doing? In order, pointing at Gustav, Zhara, and Vola I can understand if you've had a past event that has led you to abhor such things, but was it TRULY needed to harm them so without first explaining to them.. to us, why? Was it nessecary to go about in such a manner? And you! Zhara! You decide then your best course of action was to not only manipulate the Gustav into doing the SAME thing.. but then you only amplify it by making him assault his Dau.. his.. student, an Innocent child whom from what I heard was rescued from a fate of slavery only days ago, thereby subjecting her to the same trauma he saved her from. And you! Please.. there are children present...
He says abashedly, his cheeks turning rosy both from anger and awkwardness after having witnessed such 'events.'
All of you need to calm down this instant!
The Paladin grabs Gustav's hand, keeping him from moving away, as a flaming Corona fills the area where the Table had been. Zein had cast Zone of Truth, engulfing everyone who had been around the table in an instant. The zone looked almost like a transparent sun. I am in no position to compel you all, but this squabbling must cease. So I apologize ahead of time. But you, Zhara, are you sorry for what you did, atleast to the child? And are you an enemy to us in any fashion? You, Vola... Other than being a bit uncouth.. I have nothing I feel needs said to you except please.. try to control your urges.. And you, Gustav. Please refrain from attacking someone over something like that. I understand you probably have seen a horrid fate in your life, OR you are worried about the little one's fate. But we cannot be fighting amongst ourselves... Please.... at this point, letting go of gustav's hand, and sighing. Plaintive Plea: 18
((Going forward to help prevent drama, and makign people uncomfy, as much as I hate too limit posting, if you're about to do an action that effects a PC in a harmful manner, please roll checks, and wait for their reaction before continuing, instead of assuming it goes through until the end of your post. Similiar to a certain cabbage man and his cart, Guss watched the orchish go to town with no small amount of visible disappointment. Gustav on the otherhand was merely... confused more than anything. At least during the few seconds his mind had been truly been his own before the suggestion. There was no time to even be a little smug about the reaction selling an unspoken point on the city-minded exploits.
One mind whammy later...
Gustav had not stopped at Zein's shout. But his pace and travel was such that he hadn't made it far enough that Zein needed to give chase in order to grab him. A flat expression greets the paladin when the aged Tabaxi finally looks back at him. Whether this was a defense mechanism or some unintended side-effect of the spell(Zone of Truth) is difficult to discern. But he met Zein's gaze evenly whenever it fell in his direction as the blood of two souls lightly dripped down still extend claws between them. If he understood what was meant by "manipulation" it fails to register in expression. Another side-effect of the suggestion, perhaps? Or pride in one's own faculties perhaps?
Regardless of which, once released he spends an exceptionally long pause staring at his bloody hand in fascination before finally saying something. And even then, his attention doesn't waver from it until a short time after. "A horrid fate... funny. I have actually been fortunate compared to most that walk the path. Or misfortunately fortunate depending on perspectives... But either way--" He lowers the hand and smiles faintly at the others just as Ka and Nin finally run back onto the scene. "If what was done qualifies for an attack, I can promise no more than to 'try' to refrain from such demonstrations. I'm quite old, and my mind isn't quite like it used to be. T'is part of why--"He catches himself, and frowning pushes aside the train of thought.
"In any case, I'm going for a walk. Alone." He looks pointedly at Wonder, who had immediately to a step to follow. "Though before I forget. The payment. Keep it or not, it is your perogative, Sir Zein." He pulls from his back pack a full to bursting and rather large pouch of gold and sets it on the ground. "But this should be enough to cover most expenses for my request before. Guss."
The aforementioned Lizardfolk molds earth and stone back into tables. New earth and stone. The originals he buries deep using his magic before shaking his head over the whole mess.
The paladin's admonition rolled over her ears and the sting of truth magic lay heavy on her flesh. For all her calculation, she had made a mistake. For all she chose to abandon most of her people's ways, perhaps they had been right about working from the shadows. Her fingers flash and she vanishes in thin air. Out of their sight, she slips into the shadows and makes her way onwards. She only regrets leaving Vola behind but it seems like she will prosper.
Era sat there as the whole thing progressed, her hands balled up into fists on her knees, her head downcast as a knot formed at the back of her throat. There were a million things running through her head in that moment; the wanting to tell Gustav to knock it off, give him a slap and tell him to behave himself, wanting to be able to talk to these two without them feeling any threat for having come to them, how trusting them so fast was probably mistake on her part, but not everyone was bad. She was taught that there was good in everyone, that no one was ever born evil... But she was so young and naive, but the thought of her mother being wrong only made her fists tighten.
Even when the table was flipped and spells were cast she didn't move, at most she shifted to try and make herself seem smaller, nonexistent, but what was the point? When her eyes finally looked up from her hands, she saw Zhara vanish then she looked over to the exiting tabaxi, the frown that had already come across her face only more prominent now. "I just don't understand..." She whispers quietly to herself then fixes her gaze on Vola. "I... I'm sorry on his behalf. I-I don't blame you if you want to leave too. It was very nice to meet you, Vola." With that, the genasi moves sluggishly to help clean up the mess that was made.

Vola looks around, confused - this wasn't how she'd pictured it at all, this wa-now is the time to strike! No Zhara will know what to do, she always knows - shit! Seize what is yours! By might! No no no no! Zhara's gone! It's just spiders and cat-bandits and is Berry-lady tidying up? Oh god's I wish the ground would just open up and ... And. ..
The ground cracks apart, a wet mossy smell giving way to a sulphurous reek as the earth opens its craggy maw, rises up and swallows her whole, then collapses leaving the room much as it was, though emptier.
A both thoroughly confused Nin and Ka just look at each other after all the display of magics. Nin in particular started to even look at the ground warily as if it might swallow him up to! Until Ka hisses for his attention and gestures to the destruction left in the wake of an overturned table. Guss, however, had already moved to help Erat until bade otherwise, leaving the bugbear all the more at a loss.
"So, uh... That happened. Should we go and--"Nin makes a slashing notion across his neck to the group at large. Despite the question, it is VERY clear in the bugbears expression that he neither wanted to try or expect to succeed... and more than likely would only pretend to do it, only to find a place to nap. "Like... what the **** even happened now? Bird Bros?" He turns on Burgee and Kuali.
As all that is going on, Wonder has scampered to onto the pourch of the goblins, and looked to be contemplating climbing higher just to get off the ground. Anywhere was better than the ground at the moment!

"Sorry, we're just a bit um..." Burgee starts just as Zhara vanished from view. The whole situation quickly unraveled in his mind. He grabs Era at the shoulder and stands to protect her. "What the hells was that about!?" he shoots over to Gustav. Glancing back quickly to Vola he says, "Pardon him please. I mean no disrespect, but the past few days have lead me," and he looks again at Gustav with narrowing eyes, "and apparently others in our party, to be a bit on edge. If we could all just settle down a touch, I'm sure we could push through here. Just with the appearing, and now the disappearing... It's a little unsettling is all."
Looking down at Era, his expression softens and his tone changes to one of a nurturing nanny, "Ya know lass, 'tis not a bad thing to trust and open yerself up. Perhaps I need more of that in me own life. It does me 'eart good to see such hope in the world."
Zein sighed as the whole situation had broken down. Letting down his zone of truth as it no longer mattered. The party went their own ways, more or less. One vanishing entirely from sight, not that anyone knew. One of the druid lizards rebuilding the table as the Gnomes cowered within their hut - Despite being great mages.. or so they claimed. Gustav and Wonder, and the rest of the entourage heading off to be alone, while Era sunk back into a darker state, Burgee attempt's to console her. Zhara simply leaving.
Zein would make his way into the hut, though he had to crouch down to do so, and would tell the Gnomes that the fight was essentially over and that he had to find the cat. It is OK now. I will handle the mess as best I can. The sun continued to flow through the sky, approaching the far end of it's path, the heat giving way, if only a little, but the humidity rising. Making the heat feel ever worse, causing everyone that COULD sweat, to do so profusely. The sounds of the Jungle died down as night began to creep in. Replaced with much more haunting noises, as the wind whistled through the open boughs of the palm trees interspersed with other such Jungle plant-life (Flora? Fauna?) Zein searches the area, looking for gustav. While Gust may himself be stealthy, his entourage leave plenty of crumbs to follow, and he knows they'll likely still be within the relative safety of the dome. The spiders seemed to Ignore anyone within the dome that they had not already perceived as a threat before. And occasionally one of you would spot one or two, hiding upside down where the pal tree leaves were. The vibrant green's of the Spider making them look almost as if they were supposed to be there. It was clever...
Zein made his way to Burgee and Era, wrapping an arm around both and giving them a firm squeeze before pulling back I intend to say much the same when I find your feline friend and his companions. I am sorry it came to what it did. I know not fully what happened to you before you all arrived here, but I am sure it was harrowing for your group to be so pensive. My lord has told me to trust you all, and has promised to deal with the one who got away. I do not know the fate of the Orc, however, my lord has informed me that there may still be a chance. Let these words bring you solace. Perhaps we all just need a good nights rest or in your cases, a fourth nights rest. I doubt we'll be in for any more surprises.. Hopefully. Even as the paladin said it, the sky seemed darker, like a shadow layered upon a shadow.
As the darkness began to fall, Zein finally stumbles upon Gustav's group. Raising a gauntlet, and Hailing them. Staying a respectable distance away, and standing, military discipline - telling Gustav the parts he told Era and Burgee, that were relevant to Gustav. Gustav, my friend. I apologize for forcing my will upon you I understand that it isn't pleasant and hope you can find it within your heart to forgive this foolish human. I hope you can understand it was my attempt to keep the peace as best I could. I didn't want a fight to break out and I could see it easily escalating if I did nothing. I hope your kitten is allright, if not, I can offer healing and solace. Though I admit I'm having a bit of trouble seeing right now. Humans are not known for the night, but I'm sure you know this.
I have the list of the merchants you asked for. I apologize for not realizing it sooner. Pray, understand I have a lot on my mind, and as keen as it is, I cannot account for everything. I am only mortal afterall. He would extend his hand out, giving Gustav or one of his comrades the chance to take it, waiting even longer than was polite if needed. If it wasn't taken eventually though, he would take it back and put it in a pocket or a satchel.
The list is uniform. And while the writing isn't perfect, which likely came as a shock, it did, have it's own flare.
Arina - Sells Alchemical tools, supplies, and potions of all varieties.
Mordas - Runs a shop selling powerful items, weapons, and armor, scrolls. Stock is limited and constantly changing.
Zinivas - Runs the General Tac and Supply; As the name suggests, most things you might need for an outing, voyage, Etc~ can be found here.
Xolotl - Vehichles and Bestiary - Self explanatory.
The prices for such things are steep in a city such as this. Please keep this in mind, should you or your compatriots choose to peruse these shops. I was able to procure your current supplies from these places at a discount. You and your comrades, even if I am there, are unlikely to recieve the same.
Whether or not the note was Taken, Zeing would suggest heading back with everyone else, but would go back walking, not drawing his sword for light, as he stumbled over roots and shrubs.
The next morning, the Cracklestaves seemed to have no recollection of the previous days events, that or they were like goldfish and the memory of it faded swiftly. A large breakfast was prepared and laid out on the table, enough for everyone, but the Cracklestaves seemed packed to head out. Leaving a note that they had to go into the city to sell their wares as their foodstuffs had gone down much faster for some reason than they had anticipated.
Regardless, the food was set on heating plates, keeping it warm for atleast another hour past sunrise.
Wherever everyone slept, the sun began rising. And Zein could be found praying, facing the sun as it rose. Kneeling. His glow coming back, as the sunlight settled on his armor. He stayed there in prosthelyzation for almost an hour before rising. And heading to the table to eat. When he elt everyone that was goign to join for the food was there, he would ask. From what I could gather before the fighting broke out, it seems as though most of you wish to simply head into the forest which.. I will admit is my preference. But I say we take this to a democratic vote.
At the very bottom of your post, even if you mention it in character. In bold, Type "Jungle" or "City" - If you choose Jungle, Choose "Right" or "Left" so I know which half of the map the party will be going to.
If you choose to go into the city, I have a streamlined method of shopping that allows the player to see if what they want is in stock. But more on that later if it comes up. One last point though, I will not be limiting what you can buy. The shops have EVERYTHING. And it can all be done within a day. So long as you can afford it.
Due to the situation, the counter below has changed.
This is my own homebrew mechanic and storytelling device. It does not effect YOU the players in any way. But if you pay enough attention, you will begin to understand.
Occassional Dungeon Master.
"She is more my pupil than kitten." He smiles proudly down at her.
But neither I or Wonder -- Oww!" Wonder reels back as if ready to punch him again in the side.
Though the Wise One has deemed me fit to receive and conduct many miracles upon this plane, our connections is not such that my own visions have been quite as clear." Gustav brows knits in frustration.

History 3
Arcana 7
To her frustration, she recalls little. Too many foolish stories and too little fact.
With all the talk of giant snakes, Vola blurts out "The giant constrictor snake can swim as fast as it can slither and it can see with it's tongue!" in a nervous attempt to stay relevant to the conversation.

Or we follow Miss Zhara's suggestion." Having said his piece, and wanting to hear no further for the time being, he walks away to cool his head.

"I'm not ready for... that yet." Referring to Gustav's explanation of her
extremelystrangled ties.
Suggestion Wis DC 16 vs Gustave WIS 1 21

Zhara leans back satisfied and casts a spell of her own on Vola's arm.
Healing Word 5
She extends her arm a little hesitantly.
"....uh, yeah, sure - do you have a trick of your own? Does it make tattoos? You'll have to teach me - I've always wanted a tattoo but I just can't commit to one des- OW!"

T'is part of why--" He catches himself, and frowning pushes aside the train of thought.
Guss."

Should we go and--" Nin makes a slashing notion across his neck to the group at large.
