Era and Burgee sail over the harbor, heat and ocean breeze mix into a comfortable tempest caressing their skins in gentle strokes. The many people bustling about below mostly seem to be unaware, though a few perceptive souls look up and point at the pair. The view from here is amazing: to their right, just beyond the harbor is an endless cerulean expanse bordered by the crystalline blues of a clear ocean. Fish can be seen swimming, as well as other creatures farther out. To the west, they can see the palette of hued roofs, of the market district, the regal tenor of the merchant manors. Farther off, the sworling spires of the serpent-saunas, where True-Yuanti go to bask in the heat and moisture, though much darker things as well.
The endless canopy of jungle tree's, only capped off by the fiery mountain in the distance, and its ever roiling sulfur cloud. Pteranadons, and other winged beasts just barely visible as pinpricks in the distance, and the fading echo of a roar reaches their ears. Even as they take all this in, they realize they're floating now above their destination.
Alderlock, a black-bearded, stocky dwarf with a powerful build stood, pointing hither and yon, barking orders to various sailors, swabbies, deckhands, etc. Off to your left, you both hear a cacophony of gasps, followed by laughter, attracting both of your attentions as you see a giant go sailing from a window sill, only to crash to the ground in a rolling spin-out - Though you notice he seems to ignore the hecklers, getting back to his feet almost immediately, pushing his way towards the same pier as you, though he's still just out of earshot, wading through the thronging crowds of people.
Below you, Alderlock bellows up at you Well well, lookie who finally showed their faces! his voice was gravelly, in a mixture of typical Dwarven accents, mixed in with sailor overtones. Do ye plan tae gawk at the view all day or are you here tae claim yer spot on mae ship? Also, Unusual for a mistress tae let her slave floi (fly) freely... And odd choice. Could choose tae run away ye ken? his hand had long since raised to block the sun from his eyes, as your shadows danced atop the water.

Gustav's eyes in turn appear to brighten at the word event. But he appears to catch himself, and with last smile and nod of appreciation steps up closer to the front. His ears flickered at the sound of the crash from outside and almost starts to look towards the source. Then a thought occurs and he chuckles as he steps up to the front to pay his due. Just as he finishes the transaction and turns to leave, he stops again, and puts down a larger pouch down of 800 gold.
"This may seem strange and cause a bit of trouble. But I've enjoyed myself so much here, I felt it only right the next one or few patrons are given a chance to properly enjoy all the amenities without worry of coin. Don't you agree?"He winks, tips his hat, then saunters off to find a way past the crowd, and two a less crowded alleyway nearby. It may costs some more time, but if he can discretely find a way to put claw to building and take the rooftop express, Gustav certainly puts in the work. Maybe even do a little parkouring... if necessary.
(Not sure what kind of roll you would need for the above, but hear's a D20 roll to start. If perception or stealth, add +6, if he needs to weave through the crowd first then its a +7 to the roll: 10.)
Turk not feeling like he's getting anywhere in this mess of people takes a deep breath to calm himself and tries to make his way through the crowd once again. Raising his voice a little bit more loudly this time "Scuse me, Hey, I got a boat to catch. Come on now, make way!"
21
Finally making a little headway he calms down a bit and smiles and starts getting excited that the boat is so close. He calls out over his shoulder "Gustov, come on man! I'm almost there!" Not hearing a response he stops and looks around for his friend.
Not seeing him he thinks to himself "Crap. I can't leave the little cub behind" He stops, turning around, and starts scanning over peoples heads to see if he can find Gustov.
(I'll spend at least one of the 30 second chunks looking for my friend. If I don't see him in that time let me know)
Once Era and Burgee landed, the gensai walked towards the ship with a bounce in her step accompanied by her never failing smile. She took a second to glance over to what everyone was gasping and laughing about (even giggling herself and pointing out the giant to the kenku, in case they weren't paying attention) then turns back to meet the dwarf fellow. Era listened to his words, her face contorting slightly into one of confusion, but managing to smile regardless.
"Burgee isn't a slave, he's my friend! He wouldn't run away from me anyways!" She proclaims with an added 'hmph' at the end. "And yes, we are here to claim our spot on your ship." She crosses her arms in front of her chest. "We're not even late anyways--"

Burgee chuckled with a slight caw as Era addressed the captain then added with the toyed sound of a sailors parrot "What she said. What she said. Awwk." And he walked aboard behind her and approached Alderlock. As he sauntered up, he recalled the voices of so many he'd sailed with before, "Awwll jests aside cap'n, I be a right good mate should you need on this 'ere vessel. Done me share of duties. Good up high in sails and a watch. Handy with navigatin' too. Sure you have covered, but willin' to work, I am."
Then he ran back off to hang out with Era. "Can't wait to set sail. You climb the masts with me and feel wind flow over you. It's like flying!" You could hear the excitement in the words he threw together. He longed to be back at sea and feel in touch with the wind and the weather. But he also felt the excitement of the adventure ahead, "So whad'ya think we find where headin'? Hope you find what you seek!"

Truk had made fairly good headway, making it through the thriving throngs of people, making it just before the pier, he could see the rear of the boat itself from where he was, before he turned around to scan for his friend.
Gustav, dropping his payment on the counter would be received with a smile Of course sir! As you wish sir! the Elven man would say in a singsong voice, taking out your payment for the room, and discretely dropping the other 700 in his own pocket once Gustav had turned around to leave. The crowd outside was far enough away from the door to slip around, giving easy access to the next set of buildings, which the streets of seemed to be unoccupied as everyone gathered around to watch the giant wading through people. Apparently they had never seen a Goliath before, which maintained their distraction. Though slowly they were beginning to trickle back to their business. Gustav saw he could slip around through the small gap of people into the guild center, and take a long, but unoccupied path, or if he wished he could climb the walls to the roofs of the buildings, and take a slightly mroe direct, but also riskier route. (Athletics DC 12 to climb the walls)
((If Gustav chooses to climb the walls, he can be seen by Truk, if he chooses to take the side path, he will not.))
Gustav however, thanks to his massive perception skills can hear Truk call out for him his head several feet above the crowd and very near the docks. Whether Truk see's him or not depends on Gustav's next course of action.
---
As Era speaks lightly to the captain, telling him that Burgee is in fact, not a slave, the Kenku itself claiming it could be of use on deck. 1 Alderlock's eyes remained locked on the bird-man as they both walked cheerily to the deck. His eyes narrowing only after the pair were out of sight. He was expecting two others though they were cutting it almost as close. He was a stickler for time, so he would wait until midday fully rose before shoving off. There was profit to be made afterall, but he was getting annoyed that the agent continued to leave him clueless as to whom was boarding his ship ahead of time....
The last of the cargo had been loaded and another six minutes and thirty seconds remained before he would board the ship himself and shove off regardless. he'd make a profit regardless of the amount of cargo.
He sat there, arms crossed, tapping his foot. His leather armor faded by the sea and salt breeze. Two rapiers at his hip. His beige captains hat fluttering in the breeze as he waited for the last two to show up.
As Era and Burgee made their way onto the deck, all the shipmates stopped in their duties for a moment, looking them over a fraction of a moment longer than was comfortable before going back to their business, in preparing the mast, sails, and bindings. Two went below deck in a hurry, closing the trapdoor that led to the lower levels behind them.
6.5 minutes remain for Both Truk/Gustav. Gustav is within 1 DC 10 ath/acro check of the ship.
Gustav if he takes the side path is within 3 minutes of the ship, if he takes the roof, he's within 1.5 minutes of the ship.
(Not even going to let me use my natural climb speed. So cold. :P Also the bonus isn't so high. Wound up taking Alert over Observant well before the start. If not, I might've argued about readying that elf's insincerity prior to looking away.)
There is not even a few seconds of hesitation. Preferring not to risk old bones on quite an extreme manner just yet, Gustav takes the more discrete path in a burst of extreme movement and occasional parkour over obstacles along the way. For he had already warned his goliath friend of his intent; and, would see a lesson learned for the distrust. He is nothing, if not a tabaxi of his word. More or less. If he can get there faster than his friend somehow, he make sure to at least try and convince the good captain to wait at least another minute more. Even bribe them, if necessary. Failing that, he just nods and politely excuses himself from the ship to wait for Turk on the dock. All without a care of missing the boat.
Neither island or ruins were going anywhere.
At least he hoped so...
(Between Cunning Action: Dash, Regular: Dash, Regular Movement, and Feline Agility doubling all movement for a turn, he should make up a little more lost time. Now let's see if he messes it up...)
Truk not seeing Gustov and honestly not remembering what his friend said before he left. (He was already planning his jump out the window in his head and it can only hold so much information at a time) he figures the best thing to do would be to make sure he gets to the boat and hold it for Gustov if he's having trouble getting out of the inn. With one last loud shout "Gustov! I'll hold the boat for you" he continues making his way through the crowd to reach the boat.
Truk politely slams his way through the crowd, parting them much like the cars in Bruce All-mighty, but manages to do so in a way that doesn't cause umbrage by the throngs of folk. Easily making his way to the edge of it all before jugging briskly to the ship. The entire time he saw a progressively more and more upset dwarf, arms crossed, and foot tapping like he was trying to keep the beat when playing an instrument. Initially he's looking through the Goliath, until he finally seems to realize Truk exists, as he look up, Truk taking a long moment as the short dwarf almost cranes his neck to look the massive being in the eyes.
Well it's about toime! Just cause you 'ave till midday doesnae mean I want ye to be here at the last minute.. but you're not the only late passengers. Regardless, where's yer slave-Tabaxi? Why isnae he with ye? Or did ye sell 'im off to recoup yer funds fer travel? The dwarf seems to chuckle at that, before his smile fades to just a grin, as he see's Gustav running out of the road like a cheetah hunting it's prey, tearing down the docks with a small manner of grace, but nearly bumping into people several times. With just a little more than a minute to spare. Ah there he is...
Truk feeling good about making it to the boat is about to greet the unknown dwarf but then hears him call his friend a slave and feels his blood start to boil. (let me know if you need any rolls on this)
Truk, before the dwarf is even done speaking reaches down in a flash and picks the dwarf up by his arms until their eyes can meet. His face contorting in anger he says in a deadly calm voice "If you ever call my friend a slave again I'll rip your arms off and beat you with them!"
The dwarfs gaze, formally generally positive, slid down into a far more flat expression as he was hoisted up by his arms. The sailors and shipmates on deck, and milling about stopped in their tracks, for a moment hesitating, before dropping whatever they were doing, the ones scattered along the docks on this particular pier drawing rapiers, while the one's aboard the ship readied their crossbows at the Goliath, in total, aside from the captain, Truk would notice atleast 18 around him in various places. The Captain Alderlock suspended in Truks arms met him with an even gaze.
M'fine boi. he paused, for effect Per'apse ye dinnae realize the position y'er in. Y'er s'rounded by me crew... at this point, the crew aboard the ship had ushered Era and Burgee away from the edge saying Stay back, we'll keep ya safe...
Behind ye, are city guards, watchin' yer next move. The crowd whats seemsed tae have followed ye 'ere, have seen ye started agression against the venerable, and well ken Alderlock Dustloom, who regulars this port. If ye wish tae bring this tae a foight, yer welcome tae. I'll even keep the guards out o' it, tae make it fair. Even should ye triumph, you'll soon after be arrested, most like - fer assault, ye ken? Per'aps ye be new tae these parts o' the world, but slavery is natural, the Yuan-Ti engage in it regula'rly! Tis only normal taw assume one such as yerself has a manservant o' that accord. So, 'ow will we 'andle this? Shall we cross weapons? or words? Perhaps you'd like tae apologize? The cannonballs in yer court... he said, confidently.
Behind Truk, and very near Gustav, the same crowd that had been about to head back to their business, was once again drawn to the spectacle, a few city guards stood by, but if anything, the thronging folk and especially the guards seemed to be spoiling to see how this would go down naturally - they likely wouldn't interfere.
Aboard the ship, as mentioned before, the crewmates were attempting to shoo Era and Burgee to a safer location unless they resisted.
((Always roll[[Unless you're simply talking and not seeking a certain outcome]], and just tell me what you're going for, Intim/Persuasion ((in this case)) etc ^.^ )
Once upon boarding the ship, Era wastes no time in surveying the crew to look for the more friendlier looking folk working and hustling about to see if they would be willing to engage in a conversation with her, but was soon distracted by the ruckus back on the dock. She skips over to the railings of the ship and takes a gander at the scene, a giggle escaping the back of her throat seeing the giant pick up the little short stack of a man, but her giggling ceased when they were being shoo’d away from the potential fight from the crew. She pouts a little and shrugs off the help.
“I promise you that we can take care of ourselves, but we appreciate that you’d like to keep us safe! I’ll put a good word in with your boss for excellent customer service.” She gives a playful wink to the pirate(s) and turns back around to see what happens next.

Truk listening to the dwarf make his long speech starts to tune him out in preparation for tearing his arms off, but upon hearing something of an apology he finally responds "I've made my position very clear. He is NOT A SLAVE. You're apology is accepted but if anyone on this boat calls him a slave again I'll still beat them to death with your arms" While he's talking he's feeling inspired and is confident he's done a good dead in protecting his friend.
Intimidation: 18
Inspiration: 4
He puts the dwarf down and looks to Gustov "So glad you made it my friend! You had me worried for a minute there!"
Either Gustav had genuinely been paying no attention or seeing a flying snake coast along over the docks chasing seagulls had him hypnotized. Because he fails to react to the incident at all, so intent was he on watching something in the sky using the intense focusing power of a predator stalking prey. Someone of course trying to harm or pickpocket the "distracted" tabaxi would be in for a rude awakening. But so long as it doesn't happen, the tabaxi stirs only at the word friend.
"Hm? Oh yes, we were going a trip, aren't we Turk?"He glances around. "Not sure why everyone is so tense, but shouldn't we be off? Adventure awaits, and I'm not getting any younger." With a chuckle, Gustav starts making his way onboard the ship if noone gets his way.
The dwarf seems to smile, the Goliath not realizing he'd asked for his apology, not the other way 'round. But he shrugged, as he was set back down , brushing his coatee and leathers down to resettle them. The black and golden hem gleaming as the sun. His hand rising to refit his hat proper-like. His eye watching the Goliath as the giant man strode onto the ship. Despite this, the captain did seem quite rattled, the goliath was mroe imposing than he'd anticipated, he'd have to keep an eye - albeit a wary one - on that man.
A few deft finger signals, and the rest of the crew re-sheathed their weapons, and went back to their business. The Captains eye lingering on the Tabaxi as well as they both board. His expression stoic. With a slight sigh, he checks his timing, and boards the ship as well, seeing he'd be just on time for his departure schedule. Shuffling aboard in a way that was far more deft than one of his shape and size should be capable of. The crowd dispersed, as did the guards, all of whom seemed quite disappointed that no brawl ensued, especially after so much buildup! As the crowd dispersed once more, forming into a new line, and some small arguments about who 'was first' ensuing.
Burgee hopped around excitedly, much like a bird would when seeking food on the ground, until the fight had nearly started. he'd joined Era on the edge to observe what might happen. It seems like these new folks might be curious to observe? Speaking of which... the Kenku would turn around, and in the mockery of a voice say Well that didn't go where I thought it would, harr! But belay that, I'm going to the Crows Nest or now! I want to see this from the best seat in the 'ouse! and with that, using his flying spell, which was still quite active, would fly to the crows nest, much to the protest of the other shipwrights. From there, he looked around with ever growing joy, the smell of the sea breeze, the cool wind kissing his feathers - warmed by the sun- made the perfect combination of sensations.
As Alderlock boarded the ship, he cried out RAISE THE GANGPLANK, LIFT THE ANCHOR, LOOSE THE SAILS, 'N SET COURSE FER ANDORIANIS! AND EVERYONE TO YER STATIONNNS! RAR HARR! and like clockwork, the entire crew went into a frenzy doing just those things. They were like bee's, efficient and obedient in their frenzy. A stout man stood at the wheel, muscles bulging from long hours steering this massive Cargo Ship, sweat gleaming from his brow, like a small deluge, but he held steady. Several crewman went belowdecks likely to do one task or another. The captain, walking towards his private quarters just below the wheelman. Turning around, he addressed all aboard.
Welcome, all ye aboard me famous ship The Black Chain! I hope you enjoy y'er accomerdations. If ye need 'elp locatin yer rooms, ask any of the swabbies ye be seein 'round 'ere. The boat lurched forward as the sails picked up a stronger wind than existed. At the bow of the ship, was a shipsman clad in robes, wind swirling around him fiercely as an un-natural gust filled the sails, powered by him. The ship heading away from Port Nyanzaru, as the party began to head towards their destination. Little did they know, they were all in for much more than they bargained for. Each of their goals lie ahead, ancient mysteries to discover, a past wrong in need of righting, Horrors and delights beyond imagination. A past lost to time, and the secrets of several races to bring to light. But most importantly, a prophecy to fulfill.
I would like to take a moment to reiterate some things.
I'm the type of Dm who likes to reward creativity. Thinking outside of the box. If there's something you wish to attempt, no matter how outlandish, I will try to accommodate it. Just make sure you specify what it is you're trying to do, and put the appropriate roll next to it! if you're not sure what skill to roll with, roll a flat D20, with a '?' next to it and i'll fill in the blank!
I don't like to punish players at all, even if it may seem like I do. But I do like to challenge my players. I've always felt that if a game or puzzle is 'too easy' to overcome that it leads to boredom.
An example of this is in combat, I won't just have the enemies mindlessly attack you, and stand their ground, if you're up against a pack of goblins, they will be darting around, and hiding, using tactics to take you out, they might be luring you into a trap! My DC's won't be consistent unless they're the same thing. Sometimes I may have you set your own DC, sometimes I may roll for your DC, sometiems your DC check will be high, or low, depending on how difficult a task is in my opinion!
I'm always up for feedback if something is bothering you, you feel cheated or played unfairly, etc! I have 3 goals: To test this custom campaign I built myself, to challenge you all, and to make sure we all have fun!
Truk being on a ship for the first time wouldn't know where to look or go first. Breaking out in a huge barking laugh once the ship is underway he enthusiastically pats Gistov's back "Well we made it my friend! Me almost lost in that endless sand as you almost loosing your head and still here we are! Coin in our pockets and setting to the sea!" He knows that Gustov has been on boats before and it's nothing new to him but he's too exited to remember that.
"What should we do first my friend! I would love to see the ship and maybe talk to the crew, or perhaps some fishing? Can we do that? Do you think the captain would let me steer the ship? I think we have an understanding him and me! Or maybe we should get our bunk sorted out. HOLY SHIT. Did that Bird Man just fly up to the top of the mast! Did you see that! THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST TRIP EVER!"

The ship sails away from the port, at a steady pace, rocking on the peaceful, clear, blue waves, the beautiful sky reflecting off the oceans surface, except where the ripples came in the wake of the ship. Dolphins, flying fish, abd even a few other species you couldn't quite identify, ran along with the ship as the magical wind forced the ship at a steady, rapid pace. The gust that came from the brisk pacing of the ship kissed your skin with salty air, the smell of the sea the most overpowering of all. Slowly but surely, Port Nyanzaru faded from sight, as the hot sun beat down, countered only by the cool ocean winds. Off in the distance, the rest of Chult could be seen from a distance, heavy, dense foliage, massive peaks, sulfur and smoke rising far in the distance, near where the great Iron gate that Dendar, the Night Serpent was rumored to be trapped behind a great iron gate.
Five hours pass, and the sun begins to set, far too prematurely. Anyone with a keen eye can see that in the not-so-great distance, a tropical storm was brewing fast. The storm mage guiding the ship could alter the nearby weather, and lessen the tempest that was swiftly approaching, but he couldn't control the entire ocean.... Men began barking orders, as the captain himself removed himself from his chambers, sensing the tension growing in the air. Ach, shite... The bloody 'ells a storm doin out 'ere already? one jes passed nary a week ago.... Per'aps the Leviathan is still abouts... MEN, LOWER THE SAILS, PART-WEIGH ANCHOR, GET OUR uh.. GUESTS BELOW DECKS, I DON"T THINK THEY 'AVE THEIR SEA-LEGS YET! He grumbles, rushing to each of you, shouting now, as the wind picks up all around, devouring most sound. Oi! he says, doign a 'shoo' motion Get below decks, lest ye wish tae swim! You too birdbrain! he called up to the Kenku in the nest who had first spotted the gathering darkness. Tough the kenku "shouted" down I'll be fine lad! This isn't me first rodeo! I'm a storm mage too! I can help lessen the danger. But aye, Era, you two, get below! lest you be swept avast!
"Will do all me can from up here!" Burgee shouted down at the captain. He couldn't do much but hoped he could call on his ability to control the weather, if just a little. Perhaps if both he and the captains storm mage worked together they could keep the ship safe from the tempest.

Gustav just smiles and shakes his head. "Glad to see your, uh, ethusiasm is as great as ever Turk." He says, finally getting a word in. The tabaxi chuckles before going on to say, "Let's save asking about steering for another day or two, hm? Seafearing folk can be quite particular about such things, even with friends and family. So in the meantime, let's see about exploring her, shall we? Everything else will sort itself out in due time, I'm sure."He has to stretch a little to do so, but he pats Turk on the shoulder before returning to his usual haunched over form with a hand at his back, knuckle first.
On his way down into the lower decks first, he stops to look at the birdman mentioned and gives him a polite wave. Whenever he sees the air genasi on the other hand is stared at intently but not approached. Beforelong Turk or something else on the ship lures him away with the promise of immediate entertainment.
Later on when things worsen, Gustav's ears fold against the back of his head. "Oh my... Not again."The closest sailor to try and lead him away gets a 'hold up a minute' gesture. "Don't worry, my good cap'n. I'm going. But you may want my little brother here on deck to help. What he lacks in experience, he should make up for in a strong arm for wrestling down things." Soon after Gustav makes his way downstairs to his bedroom to start figuring out how best to whether the storm.

"Hm? Oh yes, we were going a trip, aren't we Turk?" He glances around.

He finally pauses to take a breath.

Everything else will sort itself out in due time, I'm sure." He has to stretch a little to do so, but he pats Turk on the shoulder before returning to his usual haunched over form with a hand at his back, knuckle first.
"Oh my... Not again." The closest sailor to try and lead him away gets a 'hold up a minute' gesture. "Don't worry, my good cap'n. I'm going. But you may want my little brother here on deck to help. What he lacks in experience, he should make up for in a strong arm for wrestling down things." Soon after Gustav makes his way downstairs to his bedroom to start figuring out how best to whether the storm.
