Gustav ear flicked at the noise. But as he heard no cries of anguish from axe surprise, his attention remains divided between the last slab and the darkness ahead. Eventually, his mind and gaze wanders back to serpent and its interaction to the point of almost closing his eyes in quiet contemplation. "Given the size and style, this is no mere aberration. At least.. hum... What do you think, Mr. Oghma?" He said before requesting a little guidance from his god in confirming a conclusion being drawn in mind.

Even if its only a memory of heresay, the answer he comes to leaves him wide-eyed and wandering about the other murals. It takes every bit of willpower and focusing on the memory of the nightmare felt just before, but the giddy trembling in Gustav's arms subside in long exhale. For now, the Tabaxi would hold his position until the others caught back up. Until then, he keeps a dagger ready to stab or throw at the first signs of danger coming from further inside the building.
Meanwhile, a startled Wonder has taken it upon herself to climb onto Minos back during the ruckus, and peered over his shoulder nervously. A disappointed Nin follows Kauli and Burgee's path, and can be seen towering behind them looking a little disgruntled. "Eh... looks like trouble to me." He says dryly. As for Ka and Guss, they too stopped their vigil of the walls to see what's going on. Although Guss eventually turns back to it, Ka at least scampered in for a closer look. "Might. I. Have. Look?" Ka asks just barely above a whisper in broken common.
Era, and Guss both look to each-other as they check out the vile one after another, comically replying at the same time in an "Iunno" shrug. The fineries of the contents eluding them. Leaving the group with only Vola having the faintest clue as to what it 'might' be for. As Burgee and his holy bird walk around to where Vola is to examine the thin phials with wary scrutiny. The slight pain from Era's obliviousness ebbs away slowly, but the shame of 'having slipped in the cafeteria' so to speak remained.
As Gustav suddenly has an epiphany (having cracked a usually IMPOSSIBLE 30!) it's as if a memory buried deep and long forgotten, for one reason or another.. likely shrugged off as a fairytale or some other form to cast enough doubt to mark it to the archives of his mind in such a way as to never remember until this very moment.. or.. perhaps.. this was the exact moment he was prophesied to recall it. the name Dendar rung heavily in his mind like a gong. Dendar, the Night Serpent Gustav remembered his domain was dreams... but he savored nightmares over all else. Dendar is believed to have coalesced into existence when the first mortal dreamed - Devouring the nightmares of all beings, no matter how lowly or high their existence may be. Even the dreams of dieties and devils were no exceptions. Dendar was the mastermind behind the end of what was known as the 'Blue Age' .. a point in time where Abeir-Toril, the Mirror realm was nothing more than a vast ocean.
More information seemed to flood Gustavs mind - The Dawn War between the Celestial and the Primordial raged mostly over this unfortunate planet at the time and one of the primordials, Dendar, devoured one of Selûne's most favored creations, the sun (a feat her sister Shar had been attempting since its creation). The temperatures on Abeir-Toril subsequently dropped markedly and not long afterward, most life on the planet became extinct. Thus ended the Blue Age and the Shadow Epoch began.
Cults to worship or battle Dendar existed almost as long as she did. Those who worshiped her often kidnapped victims and fed them poisons to cause them to dream. The most notable of these cults, known as the Sacred Order of Akabar, existed in Calimport, where she was dubbed the "Serpent Mother" and thought to have brought about the Night Parade. On the opposite end of the spectrum was an Ubtao-worshiping cult in the jungles of Chult. They thought she lived in a mountain and would emerge one day to devour the sun, and it was their sacred duty to battle her. Another group of Kelemvor worshipers saw it as their sacred duty to take the battle to her on the Fugue Plane in order to siphon off the nightmares she had devoured; thus keeping her power in check and earning a certain, if well-earned, death.
Dendar is one of the Elder Evils. And one of the most powerful existences within all realities.
Suddenly, Gustav's mind shifts back to his dreams, remembering Dendar devouring Truk within them.... As his eyes refocused back on reality, as he looked at the mural, he could swear, it was watching him with venomous glee. However what his dreams portended... was still yet to be known, for even Ogma does not know everything.
The more Gustav remembered -- envisioned, the harder it became to keep from clutching his head. Eventually, he falls to a knee saying, "It's... It's too much! Must... Focus..."Then he glances off to the side, sensing an all too familiar presence. "You... It's been you...."He mutters, staring daggers at the mural at that point. Wonder, having heard the initial outcry, looks frantically back and forth between the rest before shaking at minos' shoulder. And if that isn't enough, she goes so far as to nip at an ear to get his attention, then gesture off towards Gustav. Ka is less reserved, and dashes along on the most immediate course to check on the Tabaxi's condition.
"Keep. We should. Learn use. On way. Yes? Though. Not help those here. Seem. Maybe not reach in time?" Guss says as he starts to look around again. Noticing Gustav's state, but seeing his brother already caring from him, a wary Guss looks to the rest. "Go. We must go. Complete trial. Be swift. See what need be seen. Least screams become ours." He suggests strongly, if not in tone, then at least in mimicking the glare most humanoids not of the lizard kind tended to do so when angry.

As at least some appear to heed his words a wary Guss starts to follow, hesitates, and then decides to just stick by Vola's side going forward. At least until circumstances or danger warrant his moving elsewhere.
Nin continues to trail just behind Burgee and Kauil, a handaxe in one hand and whip in the other. Every once in a while he glances back out of paranoia, but going forward pays little mind to anything that didn't appear moving or clearly ominous in a way. At almost all times his handaxe is clutched tight and held at the ready to cut or throw at the first danger to enter his vision.
Wonder calms once she sees Ka help Gustav up. Minos still some kneading claws in his shoulder for being slow to move earlier. Once the group as a whole at least were on the move, she keeps a handcrossbow trained over Minos' shoulder, mirroring Nin's intent.
"East? Curious choice, but otherwise fine with this one. Mind your step, try to stay close to the walls as we go, and... keep those weapons out. Will be fortunate if the only thing these trails have for us is of the mind assault." Gustav pats Ka on the shoulder, letting him know he was alright to move on his own. The two at least continue side-by-side at least thirty feet ahead of the group, and ten feet away from the wall as the group makes their way to and along the eastward corridor. Gustav would keep a passive eye on any future murals along the way as before, but... with a degree of wariness.
"Tell me? Since arriving upon this island, have any of you had any nightmares as of late?" He calls back to the others.

The group starts to proceed south, on the eastern side. Several people studying the murals as they went, aside fro mthe ones Gustav had already examined. Era tensely keeps her eyes and ears peeled, the sounds of the area otherwise quiet, making her hear everyone's footsteps, no matter how soft they were, and hearing her own heartbeat pump in her chest. Zein finally speaks up, as he had been silent up until this point. He had been extending his senses out... trying to detect if there was any evil or good about this place after it had trapped them in here. I feel I must tell you all, that this place was neutral until the first ... whatever that noise was went off. I have never heard such a thing before, but it sent chills down my spine....
The murals depicting an overview of the island, once covered entirely by lush forests, and catfolk trading with the dwarves who were here. Vola... realized the murals were going in reverse order the part with the snake had been the end. And... Vola felt a part of the story was missing, as the mural had changed to suddenly peaceful times. The murals depicted prosperity between the dwarves and the catfolk.
As they continued down, making it past the first gap, to the second mural it depicted a war with Elves by the Dwarves. Fighting them at their gates, and how just before the gates had closed, a bottle had been thrown inside by the elves, who looked particularly haughty and satisfied with themselves. Continuing, the mural depicted in reverse as it had done before. It showed trade between the Dwarves, the Catfolk and a variety of elves. The smug ones from before, tinier ones - likely wood elves - and several other ones who's faces depicted the elf race that they represented. Prosperity was abound.
The next mural Depicted something odd.. the smug elves were fighting the dwarves and the catfolk in the forests, the fight seemed even at the time. The next panel immediately showing the dwarves having been confined to their citadel, but as to why, was hard to tell. Sliding out of the crack of the door was some form of plant life. All the dwarves lying in the corners of their grand hallways. Outside, the catfolk had been beaten, And collars places upon their necks, and forced to march from all points of the island to what was likely the main city.
Everyone looking realizing that was the last of the pillars.. they had made it to where the hall split. Zein had not stopped talking however And i can detect more and more evil every time that noise.... another siren blares, and un-piercable darkness settles in like a shadow, enveloping the party for a long minute, as the siren sang it's dirge, long and haunting. Eventually, the darkness lifted.. and during that time, anyone paying attention would notice it was no longer warm, nor cold... the grand hallway was absolutely neutral.... However the grandios of the walls had been replaced with spatters of blood, and mangled corpses lying about. Bodyparts missing, or devoured .. but there were no teeth marks. The corpses would appear emaciated. As if drained from within. The walls also seemed covered in stones equivalent of rust, the walls cracked from every corner to the floor. The floor itself jagged from disrepair. The pillars seemed half gone, as if they had crumbled long ago, and an unsettling feeling that the roof likely wasn't as supported as it had been just moments ago. Drops of liquid could be heard, eerily echoing like a closed faucet dripping in the night.
Zein drew his sword, igniting it's flame as he looked around, the flame providing some dim light in the immediate area, and as he did, ghostly visages of dwarves, seeming to go about their business. Most of them dressed in miners gear, but quite a few more scholarly looking ones. They seemed to pay no heed to the groups existence. A few of the ghostly dwarves bumping into some of you, forcing whoever they collided with aside as if they were an unstoppable force. But any attempt to touch them led to corporealness.
The sound of thundering steps could be heard from behind, as well as the sound of wheels on flagstones.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kauil reaches out to touch one of the dwarves as he was pushed aside, "What evil is this?" Looking around at the others reactions, he grips his rapier intent on drawing it. Burgee stays his hand, "Not yet paladin," Burgee says as he motions his staff slowly in an arc through one of the apparitions. "I do not believe that sword will be of use to you. This is... another place, another time perhaps. There was a story," he says but his voice tapers off as he scratches his head, trying to recall an old account he'd come across in one of the old woman's books. (Arcana: 18)

Gustav glanced back again at the neutral comment, giving Zein a worried look. He turns back to the way ahead wordlessly however, his thoughts now even further plagued by the meaning of Dendar's apparent focus upon him and noone else. Did he belong to some bloodline that had some previous interaction with the creature? Or so he thought before shaking his head, dismissing the idea, and splitting his attention again between way ahead and murals. As he slowly pieced together at least part of the story -- of a prosperity between three races shattered seemingly by elven aggression, and later moral bankruptcy in using some artifice to divide and conquer -- he started to question whether the otherside might reveal the missing pieces.
A chorus of gasps, hisses, and and surprised briefly filled the air from at least Gustav's entourage, followed by a horrified scream of a little girl. Faster than most could even react, Wonder dropped off of Minos and weaved past spirits and bodies alike in a mad sprint to a more confused than acutually surprised Gustav; whom only turned about just in time to catch her in his arms. "There, there. No tears now. These are but--"He stops, ears flickering in the direction of thundering steps from back the way they came. "We cannot touch them. But they can us." He says, noting one having bumped Nin out of the way as if he were a child. "We need to pick up the pace. Now."Gustav hardly waits longer than it took to coax Wonder onto his back before keeping to his word, ultimately taking to the eastern corridor. That is, unless stepping around the bend their appeared only a dead end. In which case, he tries the other. Either way, unless the apparition and... corpses.... appeared more cluttered along the walls, Gustav tries to stay no less than 10 feet away from it while hurrying along.
In the end his goal is to find some potential off shoot room that looked /maybe/ large enough to fit them all just going by the size of the door, and try ducking inside before the footsteps catch up, or the spooks drifting about change their minds about keeping things civil. Ka is quick to follow. Nin and Guss on the other hand try to coax their charges(Burgee and Vola respectively) on after them. Guss being wordlessly, but insistent. And Nin saying things like, "Ya 'eard the boss. Let's go! 'cause I tangling with invincible spooks ain't what I call smart."

Occassional Dungeon Master.

These are but--" He stops, ears flickering in the direction of thundering steps from back the way they came. "We cannot touch them. But they can us." He says, noting one having bumped Nin out of the way as if he were a child. "We need to pick up the pace. Now." Gustav hardly waits longer than it took to coax Wonder onto his back before keeping to his word, ultimately taking to the eastern corridor.

Vola bristles at the word "boss" but never the less starts hustling in whatever direction she's being encouraged in by Guss, no longer so much attention to the walls.
