Silver just nods as he rejoins the group “I had some personal business to take care of. Also, yes he did call you Bison. It’s good to see you again Bason.” Silver just follows the group and blinks as the man name Yagra begins to talk “If I remember correctly Xanathar took them from the Zhentarim mercenaries that kidnapped, my friend.” He interrupts the man his voice stern and forceful, as if trying to intimidate the man “Maybe we shouldn’t point fingers at other guilds when ours aren’t so clean.”
"Having said that I think we could benefit from a full story, which would help us to make up our minds as a group. Davil you have said some interesting things, things that I feel we should know more about. You are saying that you are part of the Black Network that already existed in the city and this Manshoon character, who is also of the Zhentarim, has come to Waterdeep with the intent of taking over the Xanathar's Guild. Manshoon does not sound like a... content person and definitely someone who is used to getting what he wants, which in this case he has not. He also must have a lot of influence to be able to enter territory already" she sips her tea again "we will say claimed by another" she motions to Davil "and do whatever he wishes to do and you don't seem to be able to do anything about it. Who is he, that is what I would like to know and why does he want the Xanathar Guild. Thieves guilds exist all over the land and he has picked one of the strongest to take. It can't be because he just wants a thieves guild under him. There is more to this story and does it have anything to do with Floon and Renear?"
Phaedra folds her hands. "You also mentioned something else that is of interest to me, this killer of elves and half-elves. Regardless of who you are, as a Mystrum and a citizen of this city I can simply not sit by and allow someone to wander, murdering whoever they wish. And in this case it is not really whoever, they have a clear target for some reason. This type of crime is most foul and something that I believe has already touched us" she looks over the others but lets her eyes rest on Silver and Vassa "We can not let this continue, so Davil, I would also like to know if you know anything else about these murders."
"The original Manshoon was one of the founders of Zhentarim, hundreds of years ago. He's long dead. The current Manshoon is a wizard usurper who appears to be taking the name for himself as a ploy to draw people to him. And it appears to be working. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, we believe his goal is to rule Waterdeep and this this war with the Xanathar is just his opening move.
As for Renear, I had assumed he would have told you, but he was kidnapped because both Xanathar and Manshoon believe that he knows where his father hid the money he embezzled."
Davin takes a breath and sighs. "Unfortunately, I know nothing else about the murders. I'm asking Elon to spend a few nights hiding down in the dockward near some of the taverns. If he sees an elf or half-elf leave by himself or herself, then to quietly tail them in hopes of catching the killer. However, this puts Elon in the dockward by himself. Thus why I've asked you all to assist him."
Silver just looks to Phaedra, as if still powered by his venom for the man it now finds its way directed to her "I find it funny that someone from the Harper's guild wants to willingly help the Zhentarim since most of the time your guild works to rid Waterdeep of their kind or are the Harpers willing to be hypocrites and side with evil when it benefits their needs even if it means that very tyrannical evil to get its hands within the city even more. After all if I remember correctly your whole guilds founding was to help rid Waterdeep of groups that escalate violence and hold the Zhentarim at the top of their list or do you go against your guild by trying to take on this request."
Davin looks over to Phaedra, "A Harper, really? Well, that does explain your refusal to join now doesn't it."he says with a grin. "No worries though. The Harpers are a fine organization. I've had a few friends over the years who were Harpers."
Looking back to Silver with more a serious expression, "But you... you are interesting. Your behavior has been odd this whole meeting. So who are you with my cousin? Are you one of Xanathar's men? Or have you already allied yourself with Manshoon?"
Silver just stares at the man"I am someone who has agreed to keep a business with mutual acquaintances neutral and I don't think bringing on the ire of the Xanathar guild by helping you or taking your money is the best way to do that. That is who I am sir and no if it sounds like the man you're talking about Vassa and myself have already found ourselves enemies of this individual."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vassa had smiled at Davil's welcome, sat attentively at the table and sipped from the wine that Bonnie had brought him curteousy of the smooth and oh-so-friendly Zhent. The bard had been quite surprised by Silver's initial admonishment of Davil, though pleased to note that the slippery half-drow's loyalty seemed to be to his friends first and affiliated organisation second. That Silver had rightly pointed out the lack of Zhentish neutrality also made Vassa smile, considering that the Black Network was actively at war with Xanathar's Guild in a race for the legendary lost treasure. While the rogue might be exactly that, a rogue, he was no one's fool and the bard appreciated having him onside, especially when dealing with other shifty sorts, though when Silver went at Phaedra over her affiliation with the Harpers, Vassa wondered if perhaps the rogue might be just trying to keep everyone off balance and on their toes.
When his brazen companion had confrontingly interrupted Davil, Vassa had been curious as to the Zhent's response, and somewhat impressed that the man hadn't reacted aggressively. The bard could almost start to believe that the Zhentarim were merely another guild of like-minded people keen to help each other out... but then the half-drow remembered the blood and bodies in the city streets, and his gaze hardened upon Davil somewhat as he finally spoke up,'
"Now, now, Davil. You invited us here, remember. As Phaedra rightly pointed out, we cannot agree to anything without sufficient information. But have a care in regards to your accusations against Silver... He is one of us. While all in our little family are all free to choose their affiliations, or lack thereof, as they see fit, we stand together when it comes to the defence of our members.
What you say about Manshoon and Xanathar is fascinating, I must say. Archmages and crime lords contesting for legendary treasures... The stuff of ballads! From what you have told us then, the Zhentarim is currently split, with your faction, which Elon here and Yagra belong to, trying to steer clear of Manshoon's murderous treasure hunters... correct? While I'm willing to believe this as far as it goes, I must agree with Silver that in the interests of neutrality, we will not be taking out any Zhent loans in the near future... though we might be convinced to erradicate a lone racist murderer - so long as we feel we're not being manipulated.
You see... that's kind of my issue with you and your group right now. We helped Yagra... but had no idea she was Zhent or setting us against your guild's enemies. Additionally, while some would say that good deeds are there own reward, I'm curious - why does the Zhentarim want to help the city watch, or anyone else for that matter, catch a serial killer? Simply out of the goodness of your collective hearts? And you mention that this Manshoon is disrupting the work that you and you're allies are trying to complete - which begs the question... what work is that exactly?"

Phaedra is clearly taken back by Silvers response and the once outspoken woman falls silent and sits, stewing as Davil talks. Her eyes stay peeled to the rouge however, growing golden flecks as her anger intensifies. I have been sent here, away from my work to help these...idiots.
"How dare you" she takes a deep breath in, her chest heaving. All care for the company they are in fades from her.
"How DARE you question MY loyalty to MY calling. YOU no NOTHING about me, I came here to help end this and got stuck helping YOU!" The priestess' eyes spark golden, the pale blue fading from sight.
"I think the only thing that is clear from this mess Silver, is your inability to grasp reality. Are you going to have a go at Vassa for asking question or trying to find out information. So you knew about Manshoon before now and just didn't feel like sharing? I even asked about those murders out of a sense of loyalty and protection for both of YOU" she makes a wild gesture at the two half-drow, knocking her tea over "seeing you have both been ATTACKED by whoever Davil's is talking about!"
"And what do I get for my care. In fact I will tell you exactly what you have done. You are right about the Harpers, congratulations for telling me my manifesto. Up until thirty seconds ago the only people that knew why I was hear was the three of you, I came all the way from near Baldur's Gate to help YOU. But now the Zhent's happen to know. BECAUSE YOU TOLD THEM. Thank you for putting a target on my back...friend" she adds with venom. "At this moment I think I would have to agree with Davil. What is your take in all of this because your not working towards peace, your trying to stir the pot. I think I would have more trust right now down there" she motions to the well "with Elon because at least I know who hes loyal to."
She turns back towards Davil. "Sorry you had to see us all fight like children Davil. As I have been reminded we have not been properly introduced. I am Phaedra Starcaller, daughter of Akassa Starcaller of Elturel, Priestess of Mystra, the Mother of All Magic and Harper. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Bason will bow slightly as he's introduced to Davil. "Hullo Davil Starsong, I am Bason CrimsonBrow, member of the Vintners', Distillers', & Brewers' Guild. I will be aiding these fine folk for the time being."
To Ms Bonnie he will say "Ahh, It's midday now, should I stick with Ale or go for something with more of a kick. Hmm, since we're in such fine company,((He wink's at Davil)) a glass of the best whisky you got, Bwahaha!"
He will listen to the begining of Davil's speech quietly. When Ms Bonnie brings the drink out, he will take a sip and lets it sit for a bit before swallowing. To Ms Bonnie, he will ask about what the name of the whiskey is and who makes it. He is about to chat with her some more, then catches himself and sits back quietly while sipping his whiskey.
What the heck is this Zhentarim, and why is everyone getting so worked up about? Politics is so messy, that's why I usually stay out of it. It seems foolish to turn down a loan to help rebuild there establishment. But, it's not my place, they are the ones who own it.
Bason will take another sip of whiskey, then speak. "I've only just met you all, but is seems like you are already tied up in some of the mess between these two groups. But none of that really matters. Elon seems like a good man. I would gladly help him, if asked."
"Also,((Bason will look towards Silver)) I mean no disrespect here Silver, but if you mean to be a neutral party, you probably shouldn't go around insulting everyone, including your own friends. It seems like you did a kindness to Davil here by helping one of his people, and he is offering you kindness in return. You don't need to join there group, but you also don't need to be so hostile about it. Being neutral means everyone likes you, not everyone hates you."
Silver just listens as Phaedra goes off and stand up "Last I checked you were just inserted into this makeshift whatever we are - didn't ask for your help personally. Like all you devoted types just pranced in here and figured we needed it. As for trust never asked for your trust and certainly didn't think I had it, would be a stupid move to just trust someone right after meeting them - that's how you get your throat slit. Also, we don't know your story because you came in and didn't bother to tell us anything about yourself besides your name and your god - even went off on Vassa last night for a mild joke if I remember right and then insulted him.You also don't know my story so don' think you can just assume things about me either. As for my grasp of reality - it's more real then yours. I've seen what the war between the Zhents and Xanathar does, I know what his guild puts out onto the streets of my city and the poison they spread. Never seen two Zhents fighting so as far as I'm concerned his story is a bunch of horse shit right now."
He just takes a deep breath calming down, his voice becoming soft, emotional almost pulling a memory forward "I appreciate you coming in to help us and the work the Harper's do for this city, it's probably some of the best charity without regards to who has power and who doesn't. But the second that word gets out one of its members is working with the Zhents, you'll have broken the trust within the areas they do that work in. You'll have little kids who wished to be Harper's and help, not sure if it's the right move to join them. Don't take that away from my streets Phaedra, don't be the reason the my class of Waterdeep loses their trust for the Harpers - we don't have to many options growing up."
He just looks to Bason "I can be hostile to a group I know has a negative effect on my city, spreading through it like a poison promoting violence. I've seen there members work in this city power by any means type if I ever seen them." he just looks around "Even just heard Vassa's story about being set up by a Zhent. Still want to think there isn't an ulterior motive. If we accept his cash, then in the eyes of every guild we will be considered working with them, if we take this stance now it keeps our neutrality visible and viable. We haven't told him that his group can't come to our manor for drinks, all we've told him is we aren't doing business with him."
"As one of the individuals who gets to decide what happens to Trollskull. I'm not working with this group, don't give a rats ass if you choose to affiliate with them but our manor will remain neutral and we won't be taking your damn money. As for his kindness it's most likely a face he is putting on in order to win us over until it comes time for them to call a favor in and then next thing we know they are forcing us to commit some horrible act and take the fall should something go wrong and then everyone we care about is left for dead." the last part rings through with a little pain as if the rogue has experienced this before.
Silvers attention moves from the table to Davil and then to Vassa "You'll probably be better for talking in this situation and I wish you all had at least let me know that we were going to be meeting with a Zhent. I've said my peace and I don't give a **** what he's offering we, as Trollskull Manor, don't accept." He just looks at Davil "We listened to your offer, now you got ten minutes to talk with them without me around and piss off before I go get the local authorities and let them know a Zhent with high level knowledge of the black network is in this bar. Wouldn't be surprised if you're working with this Manshoon character trying to get us killed." He says storming off to the bar to get a drink.
Vassa had been studying Davil intently, waiting for the Zhent's answers to his questions, when first Phaedra, then Bason and finally Silver had spoken up. As the discussion quickly escalates into a full-blown argument, that ends with Silver storming off to the bar and a somwhat awkward silence settling over the table, Vassa shrugs at Kes and begun strumming, humming and finally singing a tune of acceptance and peace that the bard had picked up at his first anti-war rally when he'd still been a student at the musical college in Amn,'
"Hmm, mmm, hmm, mmm...
...Imagine there's no guild war It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people living life in peace
You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us And the world will be as one..."
As the last note fades out, the bard will smile at Phaedra and reach over to right her cup and wipe up some of the spilled tea, hoping that the priestess accepts the opportunity to de-escalate the situation. In a nonchalant voice, Vassa ask's Bonnie for another glass of the fantastic fruity, oak-aged red, before turning to Davil to say,'
"As you can see, Davil, we're a group of very passionate folk. Hot blooded people of action, as you yourself rightly said, who can get things done. The predations of this serial killer clearly go beyond guild concerns, and we've a.... number of reasons to make further enquiry. So consider your request for us to work with Elon on this matter agreed to. Pending Phaedra and Kes' vote on the matter of the guild loan, I side with Silver and say that we must regretfully decline.
But again, if you answer Phaedra and my previous questions, and committ to being no enemy of ours, then I see no reason why things cannot stay ammicable between us all. We're surely no friends of this Manshoon character, nor Xanathar, which you obviously know already. So, "the enemy of my enemy...", and all that. What say you?"

The half-drow winks one violet eye at the dwarf, who he notices seems to be shifting to harder liquor. Looking over at Elon who is clearly deferring to his guild superior's voice in these dealings, the bard grimaces in uncertainty. By his own admission, he was saved by and raised within the Zhentarim... it is likely that his roots are deeply embedded within the Black Network.
Smiling at the quiet genasi, the half-drow musician wonders at the simplicity of this one's tale and whether or not there may be more to it than has been so far revealed. Good thing I love a good mystery, the bard muses to himself, thoroughly entertained by the whole unfolding tapestry of connections and intrigue.

((in a high pitched voice while waving his hands)) 'My city, My Streets' Who made you king of Waterdeep, Boy! Me Pa came to Waterdeep over 200 years ago with nothing but his skills and the clothes on his back! I was born and raised in this city, and I work hard in this city, Boy! All I've seen you do so far is be rude to everyone around you while spouting non-sense about neutrality while showing only hostility!((in a high pitched voice again)) 'Oh, but he's a bad man and he's gonna try to cheat us' ((back to his regular voice)) Of course he's gonna try to cheat us! That's the nature of doing business, Boy! You don't have to accept his offer! The only thing you did here was insult everyone at this table! Why don't you go get a milk at the bar and cool off, Boy! Having said his peace, he will go to shove Silver towards the bar, then realize he's not there anymore. He's not quite sure at what point in his speech that Silver ran off((Nat 1 on Dex check)).
Bason will sit back in his seat, and look over everyone at the table. He will take a sip of his whiskey and say "Damn boy, slinking off while I'm tryin to give him a lesson. We will have more to discuss. Does that child truly speak for all of you? If he does, then I have some doubts about our working relationship.... but we can discuss that later, it seems there is other things to discuss right now." He will say, nodding to Davil.

As Bason tries to stop the half-drow, he find the half-drow using his movement to flip over him and continue towards the bar swiftly clearly not putting up with the dwarf anymore.
"I never said I would accept any money. Your ears are stuffed with your own self righteous words."
Phaedra shoots Vassa a look. "Seeing your the only one he trusts, you can deal with him and this". The cleric takes her cup as Vassa picks it up, acknowledging him with a nod. "That was a betrayal, especially if he believes a word of what he said".
"As for me. I abstain from casting a vote. Seeing im just the help inserted in here, I shouldn't get a say."
Her hands shake holding the cup as her golden eyes fade. "I just want another tea."

Nodding towards and smiling at Elon in a friendly manner, Vassa says,'
"Of course we will aid you, Elon. No insult was intended. It is just... your mission was communicated by Davil, which made it seem like a guild request, rather than a personal one. Regardless, as Bason here rightly pointed out, you seem a good chap and are welcome to join our fellowship. We have our own reasons for wanting this matter dealt with... so we are destined to be allies it would seem in the attempt to halt the foul deeds of this murderer.
Indeed, I have a few suggestions regarding the capture of this elf-killer. While solo bait seems risky, Davil says that he usually strikes against lone victims, so we should maintain that MO if possible. But that does not mean that we cannot stack the odds in our favour, if you catch my drift.
If this killer hunts the docks, which matches what we ourselves have... heard, then might I suggest that we lay a trap? I know a pier that has a tunnel entrance below it and is always stacked with storage crates and such. If you, or another of our group with elvish heritage, were to pose as a lone drunk or beggar while the rest of us hid below and nearby... perhaps we might capture this killer and learn his true motives rather than merely kill him? We could even plant word of this hapless beggar's antics in the local dock-side taverns to possibly lure the killer faster... should he have his ear to the ground in such places. I could even help you with a disguise... or apply one to myself should we switch the bait. What say you?"

"Vassa, I treat my friends like my family. If you are ever in need, no matter what it is, I will come to your aid. However, to your beautiful song about a world without war, or fighting and people living together in peace... Unfortunately I believe that is an unrealistic vision to see for anyone. It's a needed vision but one that I don't believe will ever be accomplished. There will always be bad people doing bad things, all we can do is try to make it safer for those who want to share in that vision, and if you have my back, I will gladly have yours."
With that mood killer of a speech said, Breez will let out an awkward cough, look off to the side and take another sip of his drink.

Davil grins at your outburst and finishes his speech. You see no signs of deception in what he says.
Davin looks over to Phaedra, "A Harper, really? Well, that does explain your refusal to join now doesn't it." he says with a grin.

Silver just stares at the man "I am someone who has agreed to keep a business with mutual acquaintances neutral and I don't think bringing on the ire of the Xanathar guild by helping you or taking your money is the best way to do that. That is who I am sir and no if it sounds like the man you're talking about Vassa and myself have already found ourselves enemies of this individual."

Hmm, since we're in such fine company, ((He wink's at Davil)) a glass of the best whisky you got, Bwahaha!"
"Also, ((Bason will look towards Silver)) I mean no disrespect here Silver, but if you mean to be a neutral party, you probably shouldn't go around insulting everyone, including your own friends.

As Silver gets up to walk away, Bason will stand in his path. "No, boy! You don't get to storm off like a spoiled child with the last word! All I've seen you do so far is be rude to everyone around you while spouting non-sense about neutrality while showing only hostility! ((in a high pitched voice again)) 'Oh, but he's a bad man and he's gonna try to cheat us' ((back to his regular voice)) Of course he's gonna try to cheat us! That's the nature of doing business, Boy! You don't have to accept his offer! The only thing you did here was insult everyone at this table! Why don't you go get a milk at the bar and cool off, Boy! The adults are going to continue our conversation."
Edit: minor changes due to nat 1.
Bason will smile at Vassa, and say as quietly as he can. "I like you, you seem like a good chap. But we need to discuss some things back at the Manor when this is over."
As Bason tries to stop the half-drow, he find the half-drow using his movement to flip over him and continue towards the bar swiftly clearly not putting up with the dwarf anymore.

Elon leans in to Davil and whispers telling him he is sorry for the actions of the group then he addresses the group.
“ If you don’t want to take the loan, that is understandable. If you don’t want to help ME with my mission then that is fine also. None of you, except those in a guild, seam to understand. It is unfortunate that some of you have had bad experiences with the guilds, I get it. But you all miss the big picture. I am free to do as I will. If Davin here ask me to do something, I can say no and there is no retribution for it but if I say yes, then there is a reward. That is how we function. We have each other’s backs, and know that there is always more to the story then what we see. If you help with the elf killing issue then you are helping ME not the faction.”

Kestrell can't help but stare at Phaedra's heaving chest. Catching himself staring, he looks away, blushing and hoping no one noticed.
As Vassa's song finishes, Kestrell, impressed by the tune and tapping his foot to the slow beat, questions: "It sounds like you've got your own guild, or secret society there Vassa. Hoping we all join you, huh? Tell me, would there be many hells below us? And only sky above us? I wonder.
