Still sitting quietly as he strums and tunes his lute, while closely watching their new companions with a friendly smile, Vassa laughs as Kes calls for another ale after Phaedra's business like comments. Winking at his woodsman friend as he pushes his own mug across to the accomodating dwarf, the half-drow ponders with some humour whether the Mystran has younger brothers.
Nodding agreement with both the priestess and the ranger, Vassa knocks back his drink in quick order despite the slight bitterness of the heavy amber fluid and pats Bason on the shoulder as he gets up, saying,'
"Thanks for sharing the brew, Bason. Your proposal sounds splendid to me, I must say. You have my vote. Trollskull Manor... err, or whatever we eventually choose to rename it, shall serve only the finest of liquid refreshments! I hope that you don't have pressing business to take care of today, as it would be great to join us to further discuss your ideas and offers.
A couple of ales just to warm us up for the day ahead, Phaedra, but you are absolutely right that the real festivities we should leave off till the evening. As Kes says, let's meet this Davil chap at the Portal, see what he has to say, and then decide if we want to go below today.
That hole's not going anywhere though, Kes, and who knows what interesting tales this Zhent fellow will spin for us. If there's talk of politics or intrigue, maybe you could go speak to Durnan about whether the good innkeep will even let us descend. From what Goldie said, he doesn't encourge just anyone to take the dive.
Thank you for your candour, Elon. Please don't think us unfairly harsh. We're just being cautious is all, as anyone with an ounce of wits must do in this great city if they hope to survive, let alone prosper. Let's go see your boss... shall we?
If you're free now, Breez, why don't you accompany us for the day? An opportunity to get to know one another better. And if we get in any tussles, you can put it down as work experience regarding your future application to be the tavern's head of security.
And we can do a quick shop along the way to the Portal. Anyone else want to go visit an armourer?
Vass puts his lute away, waves farewell to Lif if he sees him and then walks out as he ponders ... studded leather... hmm, black with purple trim, maybe? With a grey and purple star design on the chest and shoulders... oohh, I wonder if the studs could be in the shape of small stars. Might cost extra though...
[OOC] Vassa just wants to go and purchase a suit of studded leather armour before going to the Portal. Do we need to change our silver bars to gold in game, or can we just add 50gp to our money totals?
Did we want to RP shopping? Me, I'd rather just get to the Portal, but happy either way.
Also, there was an extra bar left after Kes, Phaedra, Silver and I got one each. The extra bar Vassa is holding onto as an emergency party fund for now, unless anyone asks for it.

The party gathers their gear and bids Lif a good day and exits the manor. They take a right and wind around to one of their new neighbor's place, Steam and Steel. Upon entering the gang meets the owners, a fire genasi named Embric and his husband, a water genasi named Avi. Everyone seems to get along fabulously and soon Vassa and Kestrell are both outfitted in new armor. Kestrell got so caught up in the shopping he even had Vassa help him pick out a new tunic.
Avi grants them a 5% discount as a 'welcome to the neighborhood' present and Embric lets them know that they also make weapons, tools, and they take custom orders.
The party then takes Delzorin Street to The High Road and turns south. Nearly half an hour later as they're about turn onto Rainrun Street, Kestrell stops and points south. Strolling up the High Road you see Silver approaching. Once the group of friends are together again, you head west down Rainrun until you get to the entrance to the Yawning Portal.
Entering in, the vibe of the establishment is starting to feel comfortable to some of you. As you walk in and look for a table, Yagra approaches.
"Is good to see you again. Do you have time to meet and speak with a friend of mine?"
"Hi-ho...Silver. Where did you run off to? You remember Bison, and we picked up a few other people along the way. This is Breez who may be our head bouncer for Cream and Suds, our brewery, creamery and ice cream shop once we get it up and running. And this is Elon who wants us to meet with a friend of Yagras at the Yawning Portal. Say, do you like my new tunic?"
"Yagra! Hello again. We might have time, if you or your friend can tell us about the Portal and what we need to go down there."
Vassa, feeling rather chipper in his new armour, had been walking and talking with something approaching a warrior's swagger. However, his manner cools somewhat when Yagra approaches, though the bard says in a still cordial voice as he smiles at the burly half-orc,'
"Good to see you as well, Yagra. We left on good terms last time we met, after all. Certainly no re-Zhent-ment between us... was there? Should we grab drinks before seeing your 'friend'?"

If you're free now, Breez, why don't you accompany us for the day? An opportunity to get to know one another better. And if we get in any tussles, you can put it down as work experience regarding your future application to be the tavern's head of security.
Breez jokingly looks around then back at Vassa.
"I have no where better to be, I'd be happy to accompany you!"
When the group leaves, he grabs his staff that was tucked away on his back, and uses it as a walking stick. During the trek to the other buildings he creates small talk with some of the other members of the group, while taking in some of the sights he missed during his time in the city.
As he walks through the streets, due to the constant breeze that accompanies him, the occasional leaf and pebble that get's too close, until it moves out of range, will tumble and float along side him.
Bason will fill the mugs of whoever wants more ale, including his. Then he will cork the cask (with what little is left in it) and gathers his things.
As Vessa and Kestrell go about picking out there armor, Bason will talk to the others about brewing. "Now you see, the Red Ale isn't that difficult to make, if you know what you're doin'. It's the Whiskey's and the fine liquors that are the difficult ones! Need a distillery for that. Probably could build one, given the time and money, but best to stick to Ale's and Mead's for the time being. Now the thing about make a good Dwarven Ale, as opposed to that donkey piss the nobles try to sell, is....." ((OOC: He will keep chatting about brewing unless stopped.))
When Silver returns, Bason will say. "Hullo Silver, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance...... Did he just call me Bison?"
When they get to the Yawning Portal, he will hang back and let the others deal with there buisness. Although, his ears do perk up at the mention of free ale. "Never turn down a free drink, my Pa used to say!"
Never the less, she rolls her eyes at Kestrells name suggestion, adding "Didn't you only have two pints Kestrell? I would have thought that a ranger like yourself would have held his drink better before he started to make suggestions like that."
"Two pints, yes. But it was before lunch!"
Kestrell gets a look on his face of mock hurt:
"You don't like Cream and Suds? I was proud of that one!"
Yagra leads you around the giant well in the middle of the tavern. As you walk by you notice the wench hanging above it and the ropes leading down. When you look into it you see quite a sizable drop. At the bottom you see a couple torches mounted on the walls.
A few moments later you stop near what looks to be a large dinner table with about 5 chairs on each side and one on each end. At the far end sits a sun elf reading a book. He looks up at your approach and smiles. He then motions for the waitress.
Looking back at the group, "Hello, I am Davil Starsong. Thank you all for coming to see me, I do so appreciate it. Please, please, have a seat."
Bonnie walks up about this time and Davil motions to her, "Before we get started, please let Ms Bonnie know what you'll be having to drink."
After the drink orders are placed....
"Again, thank you all for coming. I wanted to meet with you because I've heard about how you helped Yagra with the Xanathar thugs a few nights back and I've heard that you rescued Floon and Renear as well. This tells me that you are men and women of action. People who want to 'do' rather than just 'talk'. Exactly the sort of people I look for to recruit into The Zhentarim." pausing to let this sink in, Davil then continues...
"Before you decide anything let me speak just a bit about who we are and what we seek to accomplish "
"The Black Network has an open recruitment policy. Anyone can join. Tenacity and loyalty are highly valued in new members, and you've shown a bit of both in your recent actions. As an organization, we simply want to help support our members in their... pursuit of happiness, shall we say. I and my friends here in Waterdeep have been working for a couple of years to gain more respect in the city and things had been going well for us until recently.
"A gentleman by the name of Manshoon has recently arrived in Waterdeep. He is Zhentarim as well, and he came here with hopes of destroying the Xanathar guild and seizing political and economic control of the city. Manshoon has started this war with the Xanathar and is undoing the work that my friends and I have been laboring to complete."
"It's important that you understand..." Bonnie walks back up with everyone's order and, Davil stops speaking until she's done handing out the drinks, "Thank you dear, please have it added to my tab." Looking back to the group, "As I was saying, it's important to understand that we're not a guild or a religious order. We operation more like a group of friends who wants to help one another succeed. We charge no dues to be a part of the network. And you can always turn down any job we assign to you. Do we sometimes step outside of the law? Yes, we do when we feel it's justified. Just as you did when you felt it justified to kill those thugs you met in the Xanathar hideout you raided."
"So, to sum it all up. First, as show of my appreciation, I want to help you. Whether you agree to join our organization or not, please go speak with my friend Istrid Horn. She is our Master of Coin and can loan you the money you will need to fix up the historic Trollskull Manor that you just acquired."
"Second, I would like to ask for your help." Davil motions to Elon, "You've met young Elon here. I'm going to task him with something that he really shouldn't do solo. I could assign a few more of our number to go with him, but most are busy with the whole Manshoon business. And it's good for Elon to build connections outside of our community. The job is this: for a couple weeks now, someone has been killing elves and half-elves. It's always after dark. It's always someone who's alone. Mostly it's sailors in the Dock Ward — three dead this week, each one decapitated by a blade in the dead of night. This smells of racism to me. Methinks the City Watch could use a little help with this."
"I'm sure you all have some questions. I apologize for just dropping it all on you at once, but I didn't want you sitting here making polite conversation while waiting for the other proverbial shoe to drop."
Silver just nods as he rejoins the group “I had some personal business to take care of. Also, yes he did call you Bison. It’s good to see you again Bason.” Silver just follows the group and blinks as the man name Yagra begins to talk “If I remember correctly Xanathar took them from the Zhentarim mercenaries that kidnapped, my friend.” He interrupts the man his voice stern and forceful, as if trying to intimidate the man “Maybe we shouldn’t point fingers at other guilds when ours aren’t so clean.”
With that he just leans back and continues to listen as he finished he just looks around at the group "Thank you for your offer sir, but my companions and myself have agreed to stay neutral in our endeavors related to Trollskull and will not be doing business with the Zhentarim Mercenary group, nor do we need help in your funding of our endeavor that will most certainly bring the ire of Xanathar upon us destroying the neutrality that we wish to keep within the city. Again we appreciate the offer but we will not be accepting it nor your money."
Nam was feeling very chipper as Davil spoke until Silver jumped. Suddenly his heart dropped. He was become quite fond of the group but kept quit allowing Davil do the talking as the more experienced one and listened.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Phaedra sits at the table and waits for both Davil and Silver to have there say. She asked for a simple tea from Bonnie and sits, blowing the steam from its surface. Taking a little sip from its she holds her other hand up to get everyone's attention, the priestess sets the cup down.
"Wait just a second Silver, I do agree with you in regards to the Black Network and not getting to involved in this war if all it means is we are placing someone in power over another. The city needs to be able to live and thrive. Having said that..." she picks up her tea cup, take another sip and then places it back on the table.
"Having said that I think we could benefit from a full story, which would help us to make up our minds as a group. Davil you have said some interesting things, things that I feel we should know more about. You are saying that you are part of the Black Network that already existed in the city and this Manshoon character, who is also of the Zhentarim, has come to Waterdeep with the intent of taking over the Xanathar's Guild. Manshoon does not sound like a... content person and definitely someone who is used to getting what he wants, which in this case he has not. He also must have a lot of influence to be able to enter territory already" she sips her tea again "we will say claimed by another" she motions to Davil "and do whatever he wishes to do and you don't seem to be able to do anything about it. Who is he, that is what I would like to know and why does he want the Xanathar Guild. Thieves guilds exist all over the land and he has picked one of the strongest to take. It can't be because he just wants a thieves guild under him. There is more to this story and does it have anything to do with Floon and Renear?"
Phaedra folds her hands. "You also mentioned something else that is of interest to me, this killer of elves and half-elves. Regardless of who you are, as a Mystrum and a citizen of this city I can simply not sit by and allow someone to wander, murdering whoever they wish. And in this case it is not really whoever, they have a clear target for some reason. This type of crime is most foul and something that I believe has already touched us" she looks over the others but lets her eyes rest on Silver and Vassa "We can not let this continue, so Davil, I would also like to know if you know anything else about these murders."
Silver just looks to Phaedra, as if still powered by his venom for the man it now finds its way directed to her "I find it funny that someone from the Harper's guild wants to willingly help the Zhentarim since most of the time your guild works to rid Waterdeep of their kind or are the Harpers willing to be hypocrites and side with evil when it benefits their needs even if it means that very tyrannical evil to get its hands within the city even more. After all if I remember correctly your whole guilds founding was to help rid Waterdeep of groups that escalate violence and hold the Zhentarim at the top of their list or do you go against your guild by trying to take on this request."
Still sitting quietly as he strums and tunes his lute, while closely watching their new companions with a friendly smile, Vassa laughs as Kes calls for another ale after Phaedra's business like comments.
