During this time Adolmain will rest comfortably to the cries of goblin torture. Getting enough rest to regain health. He also uses this time to memorize his spells.
Initially, the goblin looks at Autzen with fear, but then he starts laughing uncontrollably; his unnaturally sharp teeth, widdled down to resemble spikes, grins at the companions.
"Hahahaha….is that supposed to scare me!?" He turns towards Adolmain who appears to be napping. The goblin shakes his head, wondering how in the name of the unholy gods did this ragtag group overtake him and his brothers.
"What say you paladin? I curse your God and you. What's next? Foul language? I demand to be let go!"
It is clear these attempts to intimidate the goblin are not getting anywhere so Rastin Vixus decides to try a different approach. He quickly whispers to his companions, “Don’t go too far but stay out of earshot, please.” Then he states loudly, “Gentlemen, may I have a word with our captive alone?” Rastin approaches the goblin and kneels beside him. “While I despise you, my Oath prevents me from harming you now that you are subdued and no longer a threat. To kill a defenseless opponent is dishonorable and cowardly. I presume you see things differently, as do my companions here, but my Oath to be honorable and just is your good fortune in this instance. If you tell me what I want to know, I will set you free unharmed. Although some might consider it a bit of a betrayal, I presume you value your life over your word. And I assure you they, in particular the tiefling, would happily slit your throat in a heartbeat. So, tell me what came of those who rode the horses that were slain here. Are they alive, and if so, where were they taken? And how many more of you a lurking in this area? Tell me what I want to know and you shall go free. If you don’t, I hope your death is swift because I do not enjoy the sounds of torture, but I expect I shall have to endure your screams all night while I try to sleep.” Rastin glances at his companions and then back at the goblin with a knowing look that conveys the idea that this is clearly his last and only chance to live.
The goblin looks at Rastin, wide eyed. For a moment he trusts the Dragonborn, but the Goblin likes his chances. These travelers aren't killers he thinks. Sure they killed his goblin brothers, but his goblins brothers were goblins — slow and stupid goblins. Krekan is not slow and stupid. He understands. And he understands that these companions who somehow managed to defeat him won't back up their threats.
"How about you go **** yourself," the goblin says slowly, with a grin ending the insult.

In goblin Solaris steps up and says”I have no fancy words for you. I killed your two brethren and sent them to meet the Stalker and I have little problem finding a reason to end your life but perhaps you tell us the things we want and you shall receive leniency.” 14
A "smart" goblin knows when not to push his luck. Solaris' words came out serious, and the man behind them looked serious. A wave of fear washes over the goblin, and his secrets flow freely.
“I’ll tell you whatever you need to know! Just let me live! I don’t want to die! I won’t hurt anyone again!”
The goblin, fearful for his life, says that he and his Cragmaw goblin clan have been plundering hapless vicims from their hideout lair about five miles away. The hideout leader, Klarg, instructed the goblin and his partners in crime to kidnap a dwarf and human companion, which they did. After delivering them, they returned to the ambush site for more plunder.
“The human is in the eating cave,” the goblin cackles, but not too gleefully as he still wanted to live. “Humans are quite tasty! An adult human male can feed a tribe of 20 for dinner! So much meat, bone and muscle to suckle upon!”
Trying to be cooperative, the goblin also notes that someone named the “Black Spider” paid for the kidnapping, and that they took Gundren to King Grol, chief of the Cragnaw tribe who dwells in Cragmaw Castle. Apparently the dwarf had something of “great value” on him but the goblin wasn’t sure what it was.
“I will lead you to the human if you let me go! You have the map of our secret lair but I can show you where. There is a trail from here. Just let me live! I swear I won’t make a sound. You can trust me!!!!!! Yes…trust me! I’m one of you now!”
The goblin begins to wimper, looking pathetic and dishelveled after his brief boost of confidence.
(Ok, I’m doing some hand holding here as you guys get up to speed on approaches and rules. You just passed an ability challenge (was worried and finally Nic came through). You have a few options available to you. You still have the caravan that you can deliver to Phandelen, so there’s that. You also can investigate the area for clues of course. You can deal with the goblin as you see fit of course. Kill him, allow him to lead you, or something else? Whatever you do the roads ahead are dangerous. So be on guard, use perception, stealth and other tactics at your disposal (even consider having one person scout ahead, but not required.) You are free to split up of course but that could be dangerous. Up to you. How would you react if you were in the shoes of your alter egos!)
Solaris trusts this fell beast about as far as he can throw him. So utilizing his skills as a Ranger he sees if he can see the trail the y followed to get too and from this lair. Solaris states to the party “it can’t be too far away they managed to take him to the cave and get back in time to ambush us.” perception26

Solaris states to the party “it can’t be too far away they managed to take him to the cave and get back in time to ambush us.” perception26
Solaris' trained eye surveys the ambush site and the surrounding wooded area. He quickly determines that there was a struggle in the general area of the ambush site. Not only does he see a number of goblin tracks, but tracks of a humanoid and dwarf, who apparently were dragged away, undoubtedly kicking and screaming for their lives.
Solaris also notices a trail. Goblins aren't sophisticated enough to cover their tracks (and typically their lingering smell gives their location away). The trail is worn and easy to follow. Solaris makes a mental note that his party could hide the oxen and wagon in a thicket near the road, but there could be risk that bandits take them.
One hour has passed and Adolmain wakes for his short rest (Nic - look at short rest rules and adjust your HP accordingly).
(OOC: So you have a few choices you need to make. 1) What to do with the oxen and wagon? You can continue to go to town with it and deliver the goods. You can try to hide it near the road. You can destroy it. 2) What to do with the goblin? Have him escort you? Kill him? Tie him up? Let him go?. Once you answer these outstanding issues we will proceed accordingly. Ya'll should be taking notes. Gundren supposedly has "something of value" that the goblins wanted him. He and his human sellsword are captured. You have a map of the goblin lair. There is a castle separate from the lair. Etc. etc. )
Adolmain states “I don’t see a point to taking supplies to the town for a guy that is currently captured by goblins, we should rescue him and see where our adventures take us from there. I’m interested to find out more about the castle as well as the individual who wanted him kidnapped. But as I always say the next target we should go after is rescuing the man who contracted us to do this.”
The goblin hisses at Autzen for suggesting the party kill him. "Don't kill me please! You've won!"
He turns to Adolmain, "Yes, listen to the magic user! Not "cool" at all! He's wise! Just tie me up! I won't go anywhere! I won't say a word!". The goblin begins to cry and wimper, begging for its life. He looks at the Paladin, waiting for a sentence of life or death.
Crows begin to feed on the carcasses of the other dead goblins, a sight not unseen by the living goblin.
(if you decide to kill him I'll give +10 attack and damage as he's unarmed and badly injured. If you tie him up please do a Wisdom/Survival Roll (add +5 due to the goblin being mostly incapacitated) and that will let me know how well your knit is tied and whether he can escape (and when). To tie him up we'll do a group roll, i.e., the person with the highest wisdom should roll once for the group. The bonuses are in addition to your standard ability bonuses.)
“Although we should show mercy to worthy foes, that mercy must be tempered with wisdom. This goblin has not earned our mercy or compassion. He ambushed and tried to kill us and he would undoubtedly do so again, if given the chance. I will not allow that to happen.”
Rastin Vixus ends the debate by removing the goblin’s head with his great sword. (Attack 16) (Damage 21)
”Adolmain and Solaris, I do apologize, but this is the only action my oath will allow. If you require an apology or other reparation to make right my affront to your wishes, say the word.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Solaris responds to Rastin “we’re good I agree with that move. No on to important things, I was thinking that it would be wise to hide the cart and perhaps go through it to see if there is anything that would aid us in our rescue attempt. I see no need to keep the oxen we could release them and simply keep the rest hidden for our eventual return. Destroying it is a waste and leaving valuable resources that may aid us would be silly.” If the group agrees with hiding the wagon deception20
Autzen is not often found wanting for words, yet Rastin's actions have taken him aback... what honorable oath allows for the killing of an unarmed life? Explanation or no, he finds comfort in knowing he is among companions who will spill blood when needed.
"I have no need for an apology, unless it is for taking so long... and I agree with Aldomain, there is little reward in delivering the cart to someone who is not there"... plus, Autzen thinks to himself, the dead goblin made mention of the dwarf having something of “great value”.
