Rastin thinks, “A man of my own heart” as he witnesses Autzen’s defiling of the goblin, “that is, the importance of a good shit, not so much the manner in which he carried out the essential ritual. I do wish I was able to offload some dead weight myself, but without coffee....”
”The proposed approach is acceptable to me. Let’s go see about rescuing those poor souls. Solaris, your ability to spot traps has been a life saver. I would be grateful if you would walk with me in front, Autzen just behind with his bow at the ready, and Adolmain safely tucked in back as our ‘artillery’ if you will.”
Rastin readies himself mentally and physically for what is about to transpire. He knows this will almost certainly be the riskiest endeavor of his life and he wants to live to tell the tale. He creeps toward the mouth of the cave (K10) looking closely for any signs of traps or enemies.
Rastin's companions proceed into the cave slowly, each of them attempting to be as quiet and clandestine as possible. Before doing so they wonder about the Dragonborn Paladin, who now seems fine with the defiling of the corpse of the enemy (as he didn't object). And the Paladin saying Aldomain will be "artillery" further perplexes his companions, as nobody had heard of such a saying before. Rastin is wise in combat, but perhaps he was raised to focus on battle due two some innate intellectual challenges. A question for another day the party thinks.
The cave is dim and gets darker as the companions walk in. Each of the companions' eyes adjust due to their innate darkvision each companion has. They can see in the dark, but color begins to turn to shades of gray.
A couple of the companions notice their surroundings. The cave has steeply sloping ceilings that create stalactite-covered vaults rising 20 to 30 feet above the floor. The sound of water in the cave likely muffles the noises, but a few of the companions hear the barking and howling.
Barely 15 feet into the cave, the party notices the source of the barking. Three wolves are chained to the rock floor in the first open area of the cave. Short steps lead into the room. The wolves stand five feet tall, and 7 feet long. Blood covers the floor like a wet blanket, but the blood surely doesn't belong to the wolves, who have blood stains and sinew surrounding their mouths from prior "meals." The wolves appear to have been well fed in the past, but it is clear to the party members that they now appear to be hungry. Surprisingly, the wolves do not notice the party members as they are preoccupied snarling at each other, angry that their masters have not fed them. (OOC: stealth successful for all party members). Some of the party members notice that the chains aren't very long, so they are probably safe if they stay off the stairs as the chains would likely restrain the wolves from going further (though the anchors holding the chains to the floor do not appear to be very sturdy).
Some of the party members also notice behind the wolves a small pile of trash, body parts and half eaten humanoid corpses. It appears that a fissure or chute of some sort is located behind the wolves on the east side of the room within the cave.

Autzen thinks he may see a way around these beasts, without having to down them... at least for the moment.
Speaking in a hushed voice, Autzen has a suggestions - "Companions, these wolves have not yet seen us, and by the looks of those ribs, it would seem they also haven't seen a meal in some time either. I propose we hack a few limbs off of those sorry goblins we fell and see if we can't get past without having to engage."
"If we play this right, we might even be able to check that pile of remains on our way past..."
As Autzen awaits the next move from his dragon faced companion, he wonders if he's ever heard of these "Cragmaw" caves before... wasn't there a bit of history once told?

"I will attempt to appease the wolves by throwing down the food that I gathered from wagon. Hopefully that will buy us enough time to get to the body parts across the room to give them a proper meal. Please cover me." Rastin throws the 3 portions of meat he gathered from the wagon to the wolves and prepares to move to the location of the room with the body parts, assuming his gambit has bought his party some time. As Autzen awaits the next move from his dragon faced companion, he wonders if he's ever heard of these "Cragmaw" caves before... wasn't there a bit of history once told?
Autzen's memory refreshes briefly while the party gets ready to deal with the wolves. He recalls that the Cragmaw are so named because their members, a loosely held clan of goblins known for their ruthlessness, greed and wickedness, are know to sharpen the teeth for a more menacing appearance.
The Cragmaw have been raiding up and down the sword coast for a better part of the past year now, and he heard a rumour of not only a hideout for ambushes, but a castle (both of which were confirmed by the captured goblin his new companion beheaded). He doubts the goblins he's encountered are the leaders, as goblins have been known to be subjected by more powerful monsters. Apparently a Bugbear beast leads this clan as a lieutenant of the "King" of the goblins, Grol. Autzen knows this as he listened to local guild leaders and factions organize to hunt Grol down at local watering holes. No expedition has returned.
(just need Rastin's animal handing roll and I'll resolve the turn)
Rastin nonchalantly throws some meat towards the dogs, with a smirk on his face, almost taunting the wolves. Rastin is skilled with a sword. With animals? Not so much.
(Animal handling challenge failed)
The wolves quickly devour the bribe, but it wasn't enough. The wolves desire more tasty game. Each wolf lunges at the party but the chain whips their necks back.A few more yanks of those chains and the wolves might eat after all tonight.

Before Wolf 1 could gather itself for an attack after receiving an almost fatal blow from Adolmain's crossbow bolt, Autzen's arrow finishes the deed as his arrow produces a loud thud when it hits the wolf’s head. The wolf releases a final breath and slumps to the ground.
Rastin knows it is time to unleash a skill his companions have not seen from him nor likely ever witnessed. He expects it will surprise these fell beasts as well. Rastin moves to position himself just outside of the range of the wolves snapping jaws, but puts them directly within the cone of his deadly breath. He then unleashed the poisonous blast engulfing the wolves in green, liquid venom.
