"Well, huh. It's a puzzler. OK. One last time before we turn in for the evening. Who wants to do a check on the letter and seal? I'll use my bardic inspiration to inspire you."
Kestrell sings
"A whole new world. A dazzling place I never knew. But now from way up here, It's crystal clear that we need to know about Kolyan Indirovich!"
Alright, someone give it a try. We haven't had a good history check on it yet. Use the bardic inspiration to roll a 1d6 and add it to your 1d20 + modifier.
OOC: My history isn't bad. I can check if nobody else wants to, but I can wait since not everyone has posted yet. I'm still trying to figure out how all this should work.
"Yes, Cinna give it a try. And use that bardic inspiration. Also, Trogdor, you make a good point! Why would he warn us about traveling at night and then he himself rides off at night?"
Despite Trogdor's and Cinna's best efforts, they fail to recall any information that pertains to the history of Barovia. One of the barmaids of the tavern approaches the group of adventurer's with a pint of ale. "Anyone interested in a fill-up, or perhaps interested in lodging for the night? We charge 15 gold pieces per person a night." she speaks in a warming voice while having a beaming smile.
"Thank you. I would like both more ale and a room for the night." Cinna stays at the table watching the room and her new fellow adventurers for a while.
"We only have two rooms, both of which have one bed. We're a small establishment but we offer what we can." she speaks whole-heartedly, while pouring more ale for Cinna.
"15 gold?!? For a room? I could buy a donkey for that! Surely, you can make a deal for a myself and my friends, as Trogdor and I have brought you so much patronage with our tunes?"
The barmaid tilts her head while veering her eyes to the side, pondering Kestrell's proposal. Just as she's about to speak, a the barkeep places his hand on the barmaid's shoulder and stares into her eyes coldly. She looks down at her feet in shame, while the barkeep nods his head, signaling for her to walk away. Barkeep darts his eyes fiercely at Kestrell. "Think you're sly, huh? That's going to be 20 gold each now. Take it or leave it." he stands firm, folding his arms over his chest.
"Whoa! Easy now friend. We've brought you a lot of business, and have been drinking your fine ale and spirits all evening. There's no reason to get perturbed. Perhaps you tell us what you know about Kolyan Indirovich and this seal, and we'll take both rooms for 20 GP total."
Cinna raises an eyebrow and stares icily at the barkeep. "I shall sit here for the night then, if you refuse to accept the 15 gold I was originally agreeing to."

The barkeeps' eyes gleam from the candlelit room, while uttering the incantation to Kestrell. Kestrell feels uneasy, while a sudden weight seems to be applied to his tongue. Kestrell will now struggle to open his mouth, as well as have a staggering speech pattern.
Kestrell has been cursed for 72 minutes.
"You've been offered hospitality, and you return the favor by spitting in my face. You all shall leave this instant!" The barkeep shouts infuriatingly.
OOC: Basically the curse will make it hard for you to eat/drink as it'll require a lot of effort to open your mouth. You'll also have a stutter.
"Good point! Very well then. While we wait, who can do some more checks on this symbol or name? I'll inspire you with my bardic wit and song."
Kestrell leaves the candle going, and casts Prestidigitation to warm up his chair. "Ah, that's nice."

After much pondering over the mysterious traveler and his request, Trogdor stands and let's out a loud grunt.
"Something is amiss here. Why would he warn us against traveling at night, only to leave us and ride off into darkness."
With a careful eye, he looks down at the seal

Trogdor slams his hands down on the table, startling many of the patrons in the tavern.
"Doesn't look like much to me. Either way, there's trouble. And trouble always makes for the best stories. What are we waiting for!"
Xavice sighs, defeated. "Stumped yet again, would you like to try Cinna?"
