"Thanks, Seric! I was wondering what you were doing with those waterskins..." Maldorn says, finally getting the answer he was silently seeking for many days now. He then puts away the berries Jambiya gave him, even if they aren't likely to help him recover from the strange smoke. HE thanks her once again for the magical fruit.
He then spurs his companions onward: "If everything is ready, shall we jump onto that dingy once again and go investigate the wreck? Any instructions to the crew before we leave other than a reminder to blow that horn I loaned them in case they come across trouble?"
Before leaving the ship, Maldorn takes a quick look around, in case he can identify with his naked eye any suspicious movement on the island, the wreck, or at sea (perception: 11).
Maldorn takes one last look around before climbing back down the rope ladder to the rowboat, but nothing catches his eye. The group sets off just after breakfast. The wind isn't quite a strong today, but is still salty. It leaves the skin feeling sticky. They row over to the wreck once again. The sun is rising in the east, illuminating the ship.
Erric is ready to go. He asks if they have enough torches to be able to see well inside a ship. And he confirms with Maldorn he's bringing climbing gear (rope, grappling hook, pitons) to allow them to move around within the ship if it's at such an angle. "I know you're always prepared, my friend, but I just wanted to make sure."
He also asks around the crew if there is a clear plate or bowl of glass they could borrow for their investigation. "It might help trying to see underwater. I can't see anything in the water when I look over the side, but I remember seeing a tank full of fish once in a fancy hotel, and it was made of glass, and I could see through the glass into the water really well. Maybe a plate or a bowl made of really clear glass would help us if we get to water we can't see into. Just a thought."
He's ready, resignedly, to go to the shipwreck first thing in the morning.
Just saw DDP's post, missed it while writing this. Erric takes a close look at the wreck still sitting in the rowboat, trying to see if there is any sign of activity post-wreck. Meaning, to Erric's mind, is this shipwreck used as a secret hideout, with, say, footholds/ladders/ropes used to climb up? Are there any entry points visible? Is there any place along the waterline that seems like a tie-off for a boat seeking to dock with the wreck? And of course, is there any sounds or sign of movement coming from inside or outside the wreck? Investigation/Perception: 10
"Of course, Teric," Maldorn replies "I'm only leaving behind items that wouldn't work underwater. The ones you named certainly do, so here they are."
While Erric examines the wreck, Maldorn keeps and eye an an ear on the water surrounding them. He knows he looked around while descending into the rowboat, but he will continue to keep all senses tuned to their surroundings (perception: 13).
Anafrey looks around from inside the rowboat, taking deep breaths as she tries to prepare herself to hold her breath for as long as possible. Once at the wreck, she would look to the grappling hook and then to her companions. "Do ya think we should tie the boat to the wreck? Then we can he the rope to pull ourselves to and from the row boat... for those of us that arn't great swimmers.." She would say with a grin as she elbows Erric "We could tie the rope to here" she would say pointing to bench seat in the boat.. "And we could toss the grappling hook down into the wreck... then just pull ourselves down. When we are done we can just unhook and pull ourselves back up!" She would say before taking another big swig from her flask.
Rowing around the wreck to examine exactly what they're dealing with, they discover though the water is choppy here, it is fairly clear. It appears the ship did not sink all the way because it is caught up on rocks toward the stern, keeping that part of the boat out of the water. As far as they can tell, the ship is still in pretty much one piece, though it must have suffered enough damage to cause the bow to sink. Maldorn points toward the side of the wreckage, below the waterline, the words Port Hand painted on the side in fading letters.
OOC: Imagine a ship on a 35–45 degree angle with two-thirds underwater and one-third still out of the water.
Erric suggests rowing the boat from the direction of the submerged bow toward the stern, until the keel of the rowboat bumps against the deck of the wreck. Then they can tie the rowboat to either the mast if it's close enough, or the gunwale railing if that seems sturdy. Then Erric will get as close as he can to non-submerged deck and try to jump onto the wreck, with a flourish if he can. (Acrobatics: 11)
(DDP if I have this visualized inaccurately, let me know...)(Also guessing Erric's request for a clear glass bowl was unsuccessful?)
Once he's onboard, he'll take a moment to stop and listen and look around for anything notable beyond the choppy waters. If there is nothing notable, he'll begin to ritually cast unseen servant, telling his friends, "we might want to have something quiet and light that doesn't need to breathe air available to move things around, pick something up, etc."
(OOC: Given the description, I'll post assuming Erric's idea for positioning the boat is the one we are going with here.)
"Great idea, Niceslivers! You too Teric!" Maldorn then follows Erric onto the boat with a (hopefully) quick hop (acrobatics: 17).
Once he is warned that the Unseen Servant has rejoined the party, Maldorn taps Erric's shoulder showing appreciation for yet another good call. The old ranger also ties his grappling hook to the end of a rope length, in case they want to follow Anafrey's instructions.
Anafrey would take Jambiya's hand as she jumps to the deck, before turning and smiling to her in appreciation for the help She would then grab hold of anything she could before extending her own hand towards Jambiya... motioning to her to grab hold so that she can helpher to jump on to the slanted deck as well.
The rowboat is navigated to the deck side. It bumps up against the angled deck and the four party members and Ebokk leave the small craft for the wreck. The last one off the rowboat, Ebokk ties one end to the boat and then the other end to the rail to keep the small craft from floating away.
The deck is basically empty. Barnacles cling to surfaces just below the rippling water. There is one length of rope tied to the rail close to the stern, but it is well on its way to becoming unusable. The mast rises at an angle, half of it underwater. The sail has been torn into several long strips that flutter lazily and uselessly in the wind, weighed down by their water-darkened ends. About 10 feet from the water's edge is an opening in the deck that would likely provide entry to the deck below.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Erric finishes his casting and then asks, "so, do we want to take a quiet peek around, or a loud peek around? Look into that opening? And if anyone has an idea for what our invisible, unbreathing helper can do, fire away. Let's call him Gill. I thought casting it might be useful, but I'm smart enough to know that each of you is smarter than I am so don't be shy about suggestions."
Erric slowly walks around the deck, stepping lightly before putting his full weight into a step, remembering the second floor of the haunted house and the weak flooring. He inspects it for any detail that might have been missed while they were coming aboard. Any scrapes or signs of people or creatures being on the wreck after it went down, what the length of rope tied to the stern was for, etc. Perception/Investigation are the same: 9
If he sees nothing, he'll try to peek into the opening to see the state of the deck below.
Jambiya looks about, testing her balance on the sloped deck. "I think we don't need to be extra loud, but if there's a giant crab in here, I'd rather fight it on deck than below. Maybe we should peek as quietly as we can, and retreat back up here if there's anything hostile?"
She will check the weather, to see if any storms are coming in later today.
OOC Question > We had a long rest, right? On the ship before coming here?

OOC: Yes. This is the next morning, so you had a long rest last night.
Jambiya, you activate your magical weather vane and see some clouds, but nothing that would indicate rain.
Erric, as you look about, it's pretty clear nothing but birds has visited this wreck of a ship in a long while. The weather has done a lot of damage, as has the relentless sun, and no maintenance. You're careful where you step, and you cross to the opening and peak inside. It's mostly dark, though a few rays of sun cut through the gloom from the few port holes still above the waves and some missing boards help a little as well. The inside, from what you can see, looks like a mess of ransacked cargo and broken ship.
Maldorn asks Erric: "If you were to send Jill in there, could it float back up and report on its findings?" He then turns around to point at Anafrey. "If not, we might have to follow No-liver's suggestion and tie ourselves to the above-water portion of the vessel and then dive in... or whatever the details of her plan were... " he forgets.
@DDP:
Regarding Maldorn's constitution, only the modifier actually changed, not the score, right? I realize I have to change the score on the sheet so that the modifier is updated, but unfortunately that affects my hit points too...
"A little dark in there, but some light's getting through the cracks and the hole-ports," Erric says quietly. "Kind of a mess of stuff and debris from what I can see. Not burned or obviously haunted though," he says, with a small smile at his friends and an awkward look at Ebokk.
"Gill is very very quiet, Maldorn, and sadly he doesn't report anything. He could bring a torch down there, or go down and carry something back up, or go in and make a noise, or go down and secure a rope on the other end. That sort of thing. No talking, no attacking."
Erric looks for a good place to tie off a long length of rope on the stern and has Gill do that securely. He ties a loop into the rope about ten feet from the other end and readies to drop it into the opening, with Gill ready to slide down the rope. "Might be helpful to have something for Gill to tie an object to down there, and we can pull it up, if we're still nervous about being down there. But I'm ready to go down if you are. Ebokk, you've been very quiet. What do you think we should do? Where might this beard ring be?"
Good catch! Change your sheet back, and we'll do our best to remember the two changes.
Thinking about going down, Erric looks at the remains of the narrow stairs that used to provide access and egress to the lower deck. It definitely doesn't look safe, so he instructs Gill to tie a rope and throw it in. When the bard addresses Ebokk, the dwarf looks up from also peering down. "This is a strange ship for a pirate to use," he comments through his usual pleasant smile. He looks around and the others follow his eyes. "Looks like a fishing vessel." He looks back at Erric and shrugs, then looks down inside the ship again. Looking around after Ebokk's comment, Erric, who's spent more time around ships than the others, sees what he means about it looking like a fishing vessel. Though, since he's never seen a pirate ship, he has no point of reference for why that would be odd.
