OOC: Believe we have everything, so we should make sure it's on our sheets.
"You're probably right. Some things are better left unknown. I sort of expected a big spirit to rise up and try to keep us in that barrow, like maybe it did Flindbar and his crew. We've seen a lot of this island, and it's probably better we go."
He starts to get in the rowboat. "What happens if the crew wants to give Ebokk a burial at sea? You're right, it will get a bit awful after a while. I've heard of paladins and clerics being able to preserve bodies until burial, and even bring them back, though that requires a lot of power. I think we make our best case, but they might not want to sail with.... Ebokk on board. They were uncomfortable with females on board, which was the silliest thing I've ever heard. Does anyone know where Ebokk's family is in Waterdeep? The crew I assume will want payment, as might we.
WAIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTT: Erric, and his player who apparently has just as bad of a memory as the halfling does, just remembered we have two vials of Sune's kiss, which can revivify someone who has died within the last hour. I think it's been far less than an hour since Ebokk passed away. Can we use this?
I wish I could say I've been rooting for you to remember, but, honestly, if I had remembered, I would have prompted one of you to remember. What'cha wanna do? And, yes, it's been less than an hour.
I said in post #637 that Maldorn recognized it and then gave a description, which I am saying he already knows. I'd hate for you to waste it.
When Erric hikes his leg over to get in the rowboat, his overstuffed bags with all the loot he has yet to even process, much less pool together with the rest of the group, spills out in a flood onto the grassy sandbank on which they'd stowed the boat. He sighs. More frustration on top of frustration, on top of deep sadness and grief. He sinks down to the sand and begins to gather everything back up again. One of the last items is a vial of golden liquid. "Hey, does anyone remember getting this from the chest in there OH WAIT A MINUTE THIS IS SUNE'S KISS! Everyone! Everyone! Anafrey, sober up! Jambiya!!!!!!" *Wild, manic, unintelligible excited hand motions*"Maldorn, didn't you say this could bring someone back to life?!?! We have another one, right? Can I use this on Ebokk??"
He is almost levitating at the drama and the change in fortune and mood at the hope that their odd, friendly, but constantly helpful benefactor might not be dead dead.
If he gets nods from his friends, he will ask Maldorn to repeat the instructions two more times... "You want me to drink this, and then kiss Ebokk? The old dwarf? Who's partially digested by a blob? Ohhhkay....." And he will do it.
OOC: It's a PINK milky substance, but whatever ... :)
Erric upends the vial, gulping down the thicker-and-he-expected liquid, but taking it like a ... halfling, closing his eyes against the unpleasantness. Once it's down, without opening his eyes, he uses his free hand to find the dwarf's mouth within his beard, bends at the waist, and plants his lips right on Ebokk's.
Immediately, Erric, you feel the magic taking effect. While the others wonder why you're prolonging the contact, you're experiencing a rush of energy flowing up from your middle. But it's not like losing your lunch; it feels like light and springtime and music all rolled together. Your fingers and toes begin to tingle. If your eyes weren't closed, you're pretty sure the world would be spinning, but even this feels wonderful. The corners of your mouth turn up in a smile. Then, you can feel through your contact that Ebokk's lips, which have cooled slightly, are warming. Everyone else watching can see the skin around Ebokk's eyes, which has gone slightly ashen, returns to their normal color.
When the magic has dissipated, Erric finally leans back, opens his eyes, and sighs through a lingering goofy grin.
Ebokk's chest rises and falls. After a couple of seconds, his eyes flutter open. Lying on his back, he squints up at the faces above him. "Where ... where are we?"
Erric slowly reaches into his bag and pulls out the beard ring, still smiling. He displays it languidly, and hands it to the dwarf. "Out of the barrow. You fell. We kissed. You returned."He giggles, and looks to his friends, trying to blink a bit but still unable to shake the effect off. "Never got so close to someone with a beard before. But boy is it great to see you in the land of the living, my friend! What do you remember?"
"Kissed?" Ebokk asks, looking more confused than alarmed. "I certainly don't remember that." He sits up, the straps on his breastplate creaking. "I remember that horrid chest pulling me inside. Then, darkness. There was ... well, I remember it sounded like a strong wind was blowing through the trees." He looks at the beard ring, which his hands are turning over and over. "I think I dreamed I could hear my father's voice, but I couldn't understand what he was saying. But then the darkness receded, and I opened my eyes, and I was here." He winces. "Ow. I hurt all over."
Maldorn opens his mouth in a large smile of satisfaction. He extends an arm to the dwarf and helps him stand back up. He pats Ebokk's back and says: "Glad to have you back, master dwarf."
Sagitta appears, poking out of a sleeve, and feels the air around him. The snake seem to be in better spirits as well.
Jambiya blinks back tears at the whole scene. This adventuring thing is overwhelming. “We thought you were... I mean, you were... you died. And now you’re not. And... we were bringing you back to the boat,” she gestures towards the boat, offshore. “And we brought your father...”

"You were definitally dead buddy..." Anafrey would say with a small hiccup as she leans against the newly revived dwarf. "I knew.. I knew that chest was bad news!" She would say much louder than she needed to since she was right next to the dwarf. "It is good that you are back.. " She would add with a smile.. obviously very relieved.
Ebokk rubs his forehead and then one shoulder. "Dead? Well, I feel like I've just been raised from the dead." He looks at Erric. "And you performed this magic? Thank you." He looks around at the group. "You have performed your duty well, and I thank you all." He looks at the bedroll, which has been converted into a sack of dwarf corpse. "And I thank you for bringing my father out of there. If you're obliged, I'm ready to take him home to mother."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"I did, thanks to a potion that Sune herself gave us on our last adventure. No real skill involved. But you are welcome. We thought you were gone, Ebokk, we really did. I'm ashamed to say we almost forgot we had this option, but once I remembered it, we knew we had to use it on you."
He sighs, looking back at the island.
"I think we are ready to head home, even though we don't know what caused the island to be this way, or why your father was in that barrow, or why the gnolls seem to be undead, or what the shady patches were, or why the local fauna and mud bats attacked us..."Erric says to the dwarf. "I usually hate unexplained mysteries, but maybe these aren't explainable. I don't even know what we'd learn if we confronted the zombie gnolls, if we could even survive doing so. You've been through a lot, and we should get you to the ship."
Do we see the ship? Any crabs on the beach? Any weird shadows in the trees? Anything at all?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Maldorn grasps at straws: "Weric, perhaps you could take a look at the dwarven remains once more or the loot we collected. With any (halfling) luck, we might just find a journal or a travel log that the old captain wrote..."
Despite the suggestion, Maldorn takes it upon himself to do the looking into the bedroll while asking Erric to help by looking at the loot. He ensures Ebokk he'll search the remains with utmost respect.
Jambiya goes to stand near where the tall grass starts. She calls out, “Hey little guy! This is it, we’re getting ready to get on that ship. If your family is gone and you don’t want to stay here with the zombie gnolls and stuff, now’s the time. I don’t want you to be my pet or anything, but I think we could be friends.” She holds out a hand with another goodberry, high in the air.

"No real skill involved! HA! I saw the way you were using that tongue of yours when you gave Ebokk that kiss!" She would say with a wide grin and a big wink. "Seemed to be some skill involved to me friend" She would say with a hard slap on Erric's shoulder before turning and looking towards the boat. "I'm ready to go... My head is starting to hurt." She would add as she rubbed her forehead as the wind blew her white hair around.
Erric, you stand on tippy toe, looking around and through the tall grass. You don't see a blamed thing. All's clear, and you've been stranded as far as you can tell. Oh wait, there's the ship. You were looking in the wrong direction.
Maldorn takes a few minutes to carefully look through the remains as Jambiya wanders off, holding a goodberry aloft, Erric is craning his neck, Anafrey is teasing him, and Ebokk is attempting to stay awake and not groan too much. You find nothing but gore. And now you stink.
Jambiya, you see in your mind the briefest of flashes of the image of your hand with the goodberry held between two fingers just before a red and orange blur rockets out of the tall grass, snatches the berry from you, then lands about 20 feet away hidden in the tall grass again.
