Erric's hair ruffles as the eldritch energy splits the air beside him. It enters the thicket, illuminating the interior briefly. Erric sees the energy light up another kenku inside briefly. This time, the creature groans.
Maldorn sighs and grabs a third arrow. He repeats his ritual of placing his uncovered left index finger on the nocked arrow's head and pulls on the bowstring with his right arm.
"I am one with my prey," his finger bleeds as the arrow is released:
-> Longbow vs foe2: Attack: 11 Damage: 11 piercing.
Whether he finds his mark or not this time around, Maldorn moves 30 feet closer to his companions.
Anafrey opens her eyes in a haze and rubs her eyes. She winces as she tries to stand, then holds her head in her hands for a moment before realizing that she's still in danger. She curses and picks up her bow which clattered out of its holster when she fell, and tries to find full cover to string it in cursing herself for listening to the little ones in the first place.
[ooc: even with practice it takes time to string a bow, so I'm assuming that that will be Anafrey's action. if so ignore spoiler. if not see spoiler for attack action which I don't dare look at. I will wait until DM confirms whether I can attack or not to remove an arrow from my inventory.]
Maldorn must have woken up on the wrong side of the tent this morning. Or maybe all of Erric's spoon jokes from earlier are distracting him. Or perhaps he's accounting for wind that isn't there. But another arrow flies past its mark. He picks up and moves 30 feet closer (70 feet from thicket).
OOC: Does it take an action to restring your bow (or even talk about stringing and unstringing)? Do you have to explain how you have to fill one corner with all of your inventory when you want to take a seat in a tavern? Do you have to get your hair cut or describe eating three times a day or take potty breaks? No. Can you if you want? Certainly. Just like great photography, it's sometimes fun to focus on something mundane in order to remind ourselves that those kinds of things happen and that, even though we often overlook them, they can be beautiful. So, no, Anafrey. It doesn't take an action (or even a bonus action) to string your bow ... unless you want to give yourself that disadvantage. But I'm suspecting you don't, since you asked. (Sometimes it's fun to give your character a disadvantage doing something that should be normal. I'm OK with that, and I will support any of you who want to do that.)
Anafrey gets to her feet and draws an arrow. The world around her goes still and silent for a heartbeat, and she releases the arrow. It cuts through the air, aimed at (1=foe2 or 2=foe3: 1). The arrow flies into the thicket, and Erric, who is closest, sees the thicket shutter and hears another squawk of pain.
OOC2: Anafrey, do you want to move? You cannot hide since you used your action to fire.
Another kenku jumps out of the thicket toward Erric, pulling an arrow out of its shoulder. It wields a dagger and rushes at the bard, attempting to rip him a new one with the blade. (dagger attack: 19; damage: 6 piercing damage) The sudden appearance of the kenku startles Erric, and he is unable to deflect or dodge the attack. Another arrow also comes shooting out of the thicket toward the halfling. (shortbow attack: 10; damage: 7 piercing damage) The shot, however, is off, and Erric doesn't even have to dodge for it to miss.
OOC: Can I use a luck point to make the first attack re-roll? I'm not sure how you want to handle this ("You can choose to spend one of your luck points after you roll the die, but before the outcome is determined") since I know the roll, and also the result, but I'm not sure how we'd be able to make this function in PbP in between. Totally up to you! If I can use it, I'd like to make the first attack re-roll.
First if all, I can’t fix it because I’m back at the office, but I realized in the car that I didn’t account for the additional AC of the kenku’s cover. Anafrey’s attack missed. The rest is fine. The kenku still jumped out and attacked Erric.
You can use a luck point after you post, but before I post.
[ooc : Meh, I was only asking because I specifically mentioned that Anafrey was arming and disarming her bow in previous posts, and like that image/action, not trying to be a bother. Either way, Anafrey will try to move somewhere that has more cover during her move, or barring that she'll stand in front to try in an effort to shield the little ones (storywise, since there are no mechanics for it) and I will deduct an arrow from my inventory.]
You can use a luck point after you post, but before I post.
OOC: Right - my question is how can I use the Luck point for foes' attack rolls, when I don't know if the foe is attacking before you post. I'd have to know to use it after you roll but before the outcome is determined. Can I use it to have the first kenku dagger attack reroll? If so I will mark off a luck point and then can see if I'd like to use the new or old roll...
Assuming I can use it, the rules say I actually roll it, so here's a roll, plus whatever modifier you have (appears to be 5)11
... and that was identical. Deducting the luck point and the HP from my sheet, I'll take my turn!
Erric uses his bonus action to inspire Anafrey, in range and having a bad day. (OOC: Anafrey you have a d6 to add to any ability check, attack roll, or saving throw you want, after you roll it.) It's hard to hear the exact words since he's a bit harried, but you can make out, "don't stop her now/she's having such a good time/having a brawl/don't stop her now/she's having such a good time/just give her a CAW..."
He will then use his main action to poke the kenku who just ran out of the thicket and cut him very badly with a dagger, with his rapier (if there is a way to orbit around the foe to the opposite side of Anafrey who just said she might be moving to stand in front with her shield, assumedly in melee range, he'll do that to try to flank the kenku). "The nice man I mentioned earlier? That's the green girl's dad. I wasn't talking about me. I'm not feeling nice right now. Why are you attacking us? Stop!" (If possible, intimidation 21 to get them to stop attacking)
Rapier (just take the first roll if Erric can't flank): 21, damage: 9
OOC: Abunny, I don't want you to think I answered in any way like I was upset or frustrated. All I'm trying to say is I'd like to major on the majors. I think flavoring your RP with stuff like mentioning your bow and its stringedness is great, but I don't want that to bog down your ability to shoot an arrow through an enemy's eye ... unless you want it to.
OOC2: Erric cannot attempt to intimidate. There may be circumstances where I'd allow you to act, bonus act, and roll a check in a turn, but I don't see the proper lead up for that this round. However, going ahead and supplying a roll to support your request is great. That way, if I'd agreed, I'd already have what I needed and could proceed without waiting. Oh, and concerning using a luck point to force a target to reroll: Even in IRL games, I assume (since I've never actually played one), players know each other's ACs, so you're going to know if the roll is high enough to hit prior to saying you'd like to use a luck point. I'm fine with that decision coming after I post the results. If you roll a different outcome, I'll post an update. That's my standing right now. If I decide something different later, I'll let you know.
Now, since Anafrey added some movement to her move, we have to make some slight changes (besides my realizing her arrow would have missed). So, as I said, Anafrey's arrow missed due to Foe2's 3/4 cover. Then, she follows Erric a quarter of the way to the thicket (she used 15 feet to stand and then follows 15 feet, so she's 10 feet behind him). The kenku then pops out and attacks Erric with a dagger. The arrow still misses Erric, who is the closest target.
Erric inspires the approaching Anafrey as he attacks with his rapier, cutting into the dagger-wielding kenku. (Erric can move around the kenku if he wants, but he can't flank yet as Anafrey hasn't caught up with him yet. Let me know so I know your distance from things.)
(OOC: I will attempt to pre-post for Maldorn. Peek into the spoiler box below when relevant.)
Maldorn picks up a forth arrow. This is the last one he had preemptively removed from his quiver once the battle started. Some dirt is still stuck to it from the brief moment the ranger stuck it to the ground. He draws...
"And if the lady sees it fit," He whispers another verse, while aiming at the one foe who is still behind some foliage:
-> Longbow vs foe3: Attack: 11 Damage: 10 piercing.
(OOC: Another 6... The heck is going on...)
Maldorn begins to reconsider all of his life choices, wandering if he should have ever left the hunting lodge... He backs up 15 feet.
She will pop out of her mediocre cover and pop another crackly beam at the visible Kenku (the one attacking Erric) then try to get behind her bush again.
Action: It's the warlock shuffle! Pop out, EB, pop back! 11 to hit, for 7 force damage Move: She will duck back behind the bush. Won't bother with a Hide roll, as clearly she is not hidden (where did the magic user go?), but hopefully the bush provides some cover. Or not, no worries.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Anafrey, more annoyed than distressed, throws her bow down and draws her short sword, charging at the nearby kenku with an angry thrust.
attack : 21damage : 4
[Edit: I was reminded about inspiration from our ever helpful bard] inspiration: 2
Still in a bloodloss and alcoholic daze, Anafrey stumbles forward, stabbing at a blurred image of where the kenku might be. Her blade finds no purchase, and she shakes her head to clear it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: attempting to pre-post for Erric)
If the Kenkus land attacks on him, he'll use as many of his remaining two luck points to try to get them to reroll into a miss. He's running on empty.
If Erric is still standing when he takes his turn, he'll use his bonus action to inspire Jambiya (assuming she's still within 60 feet), "that's why I say hey girl, nice shot/what a good shot girl" and then takes his action to poke the kenku with the rapier: attack 18 damage 6
If he's not still standing, here's a death save: 18
Regardless his thoughts flit back to the Seldom Spring Inn, and Dirk, and how this isn't even a very good story for a tragedy. There has to be more to sing about. He hopes they all survive so he can tell the tale, if they ever figure out what the hell is going on.
(Not sure why but the previous post initially got flagged as a potentially manipulated dice roll when I edited to add a second separate line with another attack roll just in case there was flanking possible with Anafrey, which I forgot to do when I posted. I just took the line out and the notification went away.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: You all are so funny.
Jambiya hops out, misses, ducks back. Maldorn fires his fourth arrow and misses, then backs up. Anafrey rushes forward to intercept, but misses. Now being engaged by two foes, Foe2 decides to continue swinging at the smaller of the two, Erric. (dagger attack: 6; damage: 7 piercing damage) The bard brings his rapier up in time to deflect the attack. The one still hidden must be thinking along the same lines, as another arrow comes shooting out of the thicket at Erric. (shortbow attack: 11; damage: 7 piercing damage) Despite having to defend himself, the bard is able to quickly dodge the arrow. As he is dodging, he calls out to Jambiya, "That's why I say hey girl, nice shot/what a good shot, girl," inspiring her. He then dances around to flank with Anafrey and launches forward with his own attack. (I'll roll another d20 for you just in case you can get a critical: 3 — That was silly. -10 takes it down, so rolling a critical wouldn't have helped.) The kenku whimpers, then drops to the ground, motionless.
If Erric has time to call out to the Kenku an offer to let it surrender on his turn, he'd love to do that. "You made us hurt your friends; please don't make us kill you. Why are you even attacking us?"

Jambiya
Caught up in her first real combat, Jambiya will lean out from cover and pop off a blast at the bushes concealing the last Kenku! Then she will duck down again.
Action: Next verse, same as the first! 23 to hit, for 8 force damage, with inspiration added to the attack if needed 3 Move: She will duck back behind the bush again.
