After you break camp, within your first hour of travel, you notice the faint smell of smoke hanging on the air as you ascend a rugged ridge on the lower slopes of the hill. Fifty yards away, a cave mouth opens up at the bottom of a ravine. Hunkered down by a boulder twenty yards outside the cave (30 yards from you), keeping watch, is a single orc.
Anyone can act on this, but if you're doing anything it must be accompanied by a stealth roll.
With a combination arrow and magic rock attack, the lone orc goes down before he is alerted to your presence. Absinthe doesn't even get halfway to him before he dies without a sound save him hitting the ground.
There are no other orcs in the vicinity outside the cave, but you're still a ways from the entrance.
The cave is wide, about 40' at the mouth, but it narrows and turns before the edge of your darkvision. From around the corner you can hear voices echoing though the cave, but there's no way of telling how close they are.
Fjolnir keeps close, still moving stealthily from before. He whispers to Dirk, "Nah, yer a dragonslayer now, ken? Fucking right good enough with the crossbow anyway. Lets skewer some orc, get paid, and eat all their eggs again."
He moves to flank Dustfinger, watches the cave mouth and draws two arrows, readying a shot for the slightest hostile action.
What If I jot down what it sounds like they are saying and you try to interpret that later? A lot can happen in 10 minutes. I try to scribble down the sounds of what I'm hearing, in order to try and repeat it phonetically later.
