Folwyn was traumatized as a child when a fiend took over his body and killed his family. In a fight of wills, Folwyn was able to overcome the fiend, but it still resides buried deep within his mind and soul. Folwyn has been on the run ever since, trying to find a way to rid himself of this haunting.
I'm planning to play this character very similar to Kevin Costner's character in Mr. Brooks. The fiend often talks to me and tries to persuade me to do murder or evil deeds, and I have to constantly fight to keep his thoughts and actions from overpowering my own.
Backstory and motivation in the spoiler. I would think that Folwyn would fit nicely as the ship's master of arms.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"The Trackless Sea? Are you nuts Boots? " the tiefling couldn't believe what his friend was telling him. Only to think in the North and he can start to feel the cold in his red skin.
"It's that or face Half-Scar. What were you thinking? Bet so high against him... in his own gambler house..."
"He cheated Boots, you have to believe me, there was no way he could had those cards..."
"But of course he cheated you moron! He is a cheater. But that wouldn't make him forget your debt. "
The tiefling moved his tail with disdain. Frustrated he sat on a chair near the fireplace of the little house of his friend. The light made ominous shadows on the front wall, proyecting his horns and his shilouette looming over the room.
"You are right, as usual, but... The North?" he asked once more time, hoping that his friend could have another solution.
"Next time you will think twice before, not only betting against a shark like that goliath, but to go away with his girl... "
The innocent smile and look at Dekket's face when he shruged his shoulders and raised his hands was too funny on his otherwise devilerish features.
"She told me that she was bored..."
Garrick "Boots" Framwise couldn't help but laugh himself, despite he knew that his friend was in serious danger.
"Sure... listen, tonight there is a dhip that leaves to Luskan, from there you can take another one to Fireshear. Once there look for the Shore Shark. My friend told me that the captain Aundrey Farseeker will be looking for sailors. That would be far enough to avoid Half-Scar's men"
The two friends shared a moment of understanding, in silence. Dekket looking at the fire, Boots towards the window.
" I owe you one Boots " says the tiefling raising his goblet
" Nonsense " replied the human " You owe me three..." and drink the rum with his friend.
Hi! this campaign seems to be the perfect fir for Dekket Karkrow
Here is his backstory:
Raised in the streets of Waterdeep, abandoned by his mother when he was only three years old, a prostitue at the docks who was used as a token of gratitude of an archwizard to a great demon in one deal, he was raised by the street. He didn't know the most tender side of life, going from hospice ot hospice due to his heritage. If there was something missing, he was to blame. If there was a fight, he was to blame, even if he was the one with a closed eye and a lip broken. That continued until he was 8 years old, and he finally ended up at little hospice ran by a Ilmater's old cleric. This old man showed him tenderness, and cared about him and the 15 more orphans, most of them humans but there was a couple of half-orcs there too, as if they were his own children. That was the best year of his childhood. Finally a merchant wanted to expand his possesions and bought the property of the hospice. He still remember the night that the merchant's guards came and took the old man by force. The heart of the poor old man couldn't take it and died in the mud of the street. Seeing that merchant laughing and taking what he wanted just because he had the money to do it was it. From that point on he swore to himself that someday he will have even more money than that merchant. He spent the next years stealing and conning what he could. He tried to help the other orphans, but little by little they all moved away or died due to illness or fights that went south. The search of the city guard for thieves and his necesity to move drove him to the docks, where he found jobs at some ships from time to time wich helped him to dissapear when things went to hot. There he found, finally, a place as a member of a pirate crew aboard a little but fast ship called "The Weeping Lady". They operated from Skullport and sold their exploits at the vibrant docks of the city. It was there that he met and befriend Garrick "boots" Franwise, another urchin like him that had managed to be one of the harbor masters of the port, helping Dekket to sell the things he “obtained” and sharing the profits. During a pirate incursion, Dekket saved Garrick from become a slave and since then they had kept a healthy and profitable relationship. Unfortunately, one night after a particulary succesful ride aboard the Lady, he gambled too much for his own good. And he lost. With a debt higher that he could pay to one of the most hideous gang leaders at the ports, a goliath called "Half-Scar", he needs a job that help him pay his debt, or the healing spells he is gonna need soon...
I am too tempted to roll the dice.. hope they treat me well!
Name: Orlys (or-lee) Race: Bugbear (male) Class: Barbarian (pointed at Storm Herald) Stats (as rolled in #33, sorted and racially adjusted): 15, 14, 17, 9, 11, 8 (DDB sheet) Background: Pirate (for the Bad Reputation feature, rather than Sailor, but either would do) Alignment: Lawful Neutral Ship position: Swabbie (bodyguard/bodyman)
Brief backstory, suitable for backfilling into an existing campaign: Raised on ships after stowing away, Orlys suffered greatly at the hands of careless or cruel men, until landing with a coastal raiding captain who saw worth in his strength. Orlys grew to love the sea, especially the storms, and two decades after first casting off, he can imagine no other life. He is a fearsome sight, and unique, and his reputation precedes him in most ports.
Role-playing notes: Orlys is a big, strong, snarly sumbi..., on the outside. He knows his place: he's not the smartest, or the wisest, and it's hard for people to like him. He has a hard time controlling his temper, and he has no interest in conforming to the niceties of social graces. But he also likes to sit at the bow, stormy wind in his fur, smelling, listening, and feeling. The wildness of a storm calls to the wildness inside his nature, that he has had to learn to control. He is an adult, at 23, and has learned many lessons along the way, some humbling, some hard to swallow. He'd like his life to remain simple. He likes a simple weapon (a maul), he likes a simple duty (cleaning decks, protecting captains), he likes simple relationships (so he plays up the dumb bugbear side). He is Lawful Neutral in that he mostly wants to live his life, but understands that there are rules. There is a law to the storm, a law to the ocean, and a law to the ship, and he sticks to them all, lest he find himself adrift. He loves the sea, and cannot imagine living away from it. He fears being left ashore with no berth.
Adventure hook? Not sure where the players are now, but Orlys could very well have lost his berth (to a wreck, a fight, his protector captain retiring or dying) and be looking for another spot. He'd take any position, though he is unsuited for most, hence the "Swabbie" position listed above.
Long backstory, 'cause I love making stuff up: As a cub of three years, Orlys (he had a different name, then) climbed aboard the landing skiffs of a coastal raider when they came for his clan. He had some notion of holing the ship and coming ashore to glory. His stealth got him aboard the great ship (it seemed great to him), and into the hold, where he tried his best, but was too small and weak. And scared, in the end. He was found by crew members who chained him and taunted him, and the captain let them have their fun. But the raider had astounding luck that season, and the crew increasingly started to confer the lucky streak on the small cat/bear they had acquired. Eventually, at the age of five, he was "traded" to another captain in a card game, and his life was tied to the sea from then on. It has been two decades now since that moment when he left shore, and he has grown (7'2", 290 lbs!), he has seen much on the ocean, and found a place there. He stokes a fearsome reputation, but his abilities have never translated well to the standard positions on a ship: he weighs too much to do rigging or sail work, he's not clever enough to do skilled work, and he's too much the brute to be an officer. But he does not ask for much pay, is intensely loyal to whomever employs him, and he has no problem swabbing the deck with the swabbies.
As for recent events, I'm happy to work with the DM to customize the backstory of his most recent few years to fit with the adventure (see Adventure hook, above).
Tidalwave is a water genasi monk with the sailor background. Her alignment is chaotic good and she's spent her entire life sailing the seas with her father, but one trip her father made her stay home as he believed the trip was too dangerous due to pirates. He was right; His ship never returned. Now she vows to get her revenge on every pirate she sees. She would be okay with being either the navigator, pilot, or lookout.
Gondry eyefast is a half elf ranger with a some what navel tactician background. His alignment is chaotic good as he grow up his life became money records and teaching salilors signs of sea beasts as well as pirates. He is shock when his sea village got raided and anialated by a unknown force and now seeks the answer he deserves

Character submission...
Name: Orlys (or-lee)
Race: Bugbear (male)
Class: Barbarian (pointed at Storm Herald)
Stats (as rolled in #33, sorted and racially adjusted): 15, 14, 17, 9, 11, 8 (DDB sheet)
Background: Pirate (for the Bad Reputation feature, rather than Sailor, but either would do)
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Ship position: Swabbie (bodyguard/bodyman)
As for recent events, I'm happy to work with the DM to customize the backstory of his most recent few years to fit with the adventure (see Adventure hook, above).
ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he).
Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. Here's my D&D stuff. I love it so.

Hey FrandalSilvereyes,
Fantastic d&d 'cover letter' there, mate. I really enjoyed reading it. I'm going to close the recruitment link tomorrow and will let everyone know the outcome here. Regardless of what happens, thanks for the application. Cheers!
D&D is a game, but it's not just a game. It's the ultimate storyboard, a campfire to share with friends, an imaginary call to imaginary arms and a ship to sail to horizons yet undreamt of...
