This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I'll be recruiting 5-6 players for this PbP game. This is intended to be a one-shot, but it may develop into a campaign (depending on how well things go). Alignments from Chaotic Neutral to Lawful Good are suggested. Here is a bit more about the game
Posting:
Players should post relatively frequently (about once per day). If you are unable to post for a day every once and a while that is fine (I understand that we all have lives). If you are unable to post and your character is at a point where the party depends on them/they are slowing down the game, I may post for your character. Also, if you need to take a break from posting for a longer period of time (due to things like family issues, work, etc.), let me know and I will figure something out. If your character is saying something, pick a color "And type in quotations". Also Also, if something is in a spoiler and is not addressed to your character, please don't read it.
Characters:
Your characters start at 1st level. You can use Standard Array, Point Buy, or just roll for your ability scores. All character options (including feats and UA stuff like the Artificer) are available EXCEPT aarakocra, gnolls, aasimar, and orcs (I'll explain). If you have something homebrew that you really want to use, just run it by me first. Your character has either starting gold OR starting equipment. Post a link to your character on DnD Beyond as well as a bit of backstory (and your ability scores if you rolled them) in this thread.
Lore
The country you currently live in is Angleward. Most of its population is human and dwarf, although most races can be found here.
Around ninety years ago, Anglewardan explorers by the names of Maté de Bacque and Volothamp Geddarm discovered a new continent (and quickly named it New Angleward in honor of their home). This continent is home to previously undiscovered races like orcs, goblins, bird-folk, and gnolls (This is why PCs can't play some races). Also living here are tribes of halfling aboriginals. New Angleward has many small colonies, but it's first and largest city, Maté, has quickly become a bustling trade center. However, in the comparatively short 90 years, conflicts already formed in New Angleward. The coasts are ravaged by pirates, and natives to New Angleward have grown angry with the discriminatory rule of the Anglewardans (and some have even begun raiding small towns to retaliate). To combat this, Angleward has begun drafting citizens from all over the country to serve overseas protecting New Angleward.
Technology and Magic
Angleward has roughly the same technology level as Faerun, although there are some differences. To start, simple magic wands (with cantrips and spells like Magic Missile and Mage Hand) have become very popular across Angleward, and it is not uncommon to see these wands in use. Some use them for dueling and fighting (as gunpowder is still extremely experimental), while others apply wands to medical purposes. Artificers selling these tools have been known to become very rich.
DM
My goal as a DM is to provide a story for the players to interpret and explore. You shouldn't feel limited it what your character is allowed to do, and interaction between multiple characters, the world, and random NPCs should be normal.
I have been playing DnD for quite a while, but I am still relatively new to PbP (this is my second campaign). I don't like playing extremely rules-heavy games, and if someone makes a little mistake with something rules-wise I usually won't care. That being said, the rules are still there to be followed. Also, heavier roleplaying is advised.
I will be using Milestone advancement for XP. In combat, each player will roll individually (and I will usually roll as a group for enemies with the same stats).
Submissions
Your submission should look something like this:
Name
Race
Alignment
Class
Personality & Backstory
Link
I will probably finish recruiting around the 31st of March.
(EDIT: If you roll your ability scores instead of using Standard Array or Point Buy, you are allowed to move around your scores. This doesn't mean you can increase any of your scores. Example:
Ability scores: 91510171110
If I wanted to, I could move the seven from Wisdom to any other ability score.)
Like many artificers, Mixum is on a quest to expand the boundaries of knowledge. He might understand how chemicals and magic react better than he understands people though.
Personality and backstory: An optimistic half elf who greats each day with excitement. Always willing to make a new friend, Abe is a fast talking charmer with good intentions.
Raised in the outskirts of a small city.Coming from a family of poor farmers. His parents often resorted to running scams and schemes to steal or trick people out of money; in order to support the family. These cons often used their youngest child, Abraham.Picking up the trade quickly, becoming an excellent swindler.
On a botched snatch and grab with his family Abe was being chased by the town guard. He jumped over and hid inside a well, clinging to the wall as they ran passed. His grip slip and he fell down.Unable to climb his way up and not wanting to get recognized and captured. He was trapped. As the night grew later... colder... darker he began to fatigue and not able to tread water. He prayed to anything that would listen for a way to rescue him.His last thought was sinking under the water and not being able to breath. He later woke up in an alley next to the well, soaking wet.Not a person or creature in sight.Just a brand on his wrist. He left his family that night.
As he aged, aspiring to make something of himself in a more ..... legal way.He spent half his time doing odd jobs, filling in the rest with “borrowing from others to survive”. He began keeping a journal with a list of names and amounts of everyone he ever stole from just.A promise to himself to payback the people he and his family mistreated.
Personality & Backstory: Beech has been a wanderer with the only companion of his drum for as long as he can remember. He often gives his services to traveling adventures or merchants, spicing up their day with a song. He's gotten less than a few pounds of gold for it over the years, the result f everyone seeing him as a nuisance, but he doesn't care. Even if he brought joy to them for only a moment makes it all worthwhile.
Flattery is my preferred trick for getting what I want. I lie about almost everything, even when there’s no good reason to.
Ideals
Independence. I am a free spirit—no one tells me what to do. (Chaotic)
Bonds
A powerful person killed someone I love. Some day soon, I’ll have my revenge.
Flaws
I’m convinced that no one could ever fool me the way I fool others.
An orphan of the streets, Arvel quickly learned that his good looks and silver tongue could allow him to get away with almost anything. A low-level conman, he prides himself on never taking anything that wasn't freely given.
A year ago, he was ready to hang it all up and go straight. Because he'd met Luala and wanted to marry her. On the night he planned to propose, Arvel approached Luala sitting on a stone bench in a park. When he touched her shoulder, she fell to the ground. Her throat had been slashed and her dress was dyed deep red with her blood.
Arvel turned to shout for help but he stopped suddenly. A bloody dagger had mysteriously appeared in his hand. Stunned by this, Arvel didn't hear the approach of the watchmen.
Seized, jailed, and set to be put on trial for murder he sat in his cell weeping over his fate and his lost love.
That's when She appeared. The woman appeared Elven, but was more beautiful than any elf Arvel had ever seen before. The offer was simple, Arvel would be given his freedom and a small measure of power to continue his conniving ways and in exchange he would render Her service when She required.
Seeing no other way out, Arvel accepted and became a Warlock in service to the Archfey woman.
The next morning he was released from prison. The guards explained that a common street thug had come forward and confessed to the murder. Arvel took all he had saved and set out for a life of adventure to escape his pain and grow his power.
Teth is an introverted, quiet individual. As a youngster he and his family were taken in by a local religious group after the tragic death of his younger sister. The group turned out to be a cult and Teth's parents, vulnerable after their family tragedy, were consumed by the cult and lost themselves. Teth escaped the cult and took to the wilds around his childhood home, learning his ample survival skills the hard way.
Delanra was tasked with a complex infiltration of human society, which she accomplished above and beyond her caste's expectations. She has built up a lavish lifestyle as an advisor to a noble family, socializes in high society, and schemes against the other aristocrats with alarming frequency. After an unexpected outcome to one of her machinations, she felt a new sensation... magic flowed from her! In the most stereo typical way possible, she somehow called upon a primal flame to erupt around her antagonist. The promise of power and the ways that she can use it to elevate her scheming to new levels has enticed her to learn more about her abilities, now she has temporarily forsaken her facade among the nobility and taken to the road in search of arcane knowledge.
Personality & Backstory: Jaya is friendly though not very experienced with social interaction having spent her formative years in a monastery. She has a sense of wanderlust driving her to go see new things which inevitably brings her into contact with people, so she is learning. The monastery she was raised in was located in a relatively isolated area of Angleward. As far as she knows she was born there. Though the monks there were good to her and she learned many useful things she found she wanted to know more about the world outside. She left the only family she'd known as a teenager to strike out on her own. She spent several years living essentially a hermit lifestyle as she travelled the country. Eventually she heard of the draft and decided that was a good way to see more of the world, so she signed up and boarded a ship.
Name: Derrin Elwin Race: Half-Elf Alignment:Lawful Neutral Class:Blood Hunter Personality: EDIT: Perhaps the best way to sum up Derrin's attitude is agressively focused on his job, though passionless about the acts he has to do, for his order he is initiated in he would do anything to make those who raised him(orphan option in his bond background seemed fitting) proud and despite his unknown heritage find a place where he can bring order not just to himself, but that which is known and unknown in this new land he is stationed in. Background: Acolyte -details WIP, but I like to see it as him in a "Inquisition" kind of order to make sure the new races or monsters are not a "threat" to the people in New Angleward in order to keep peace and business running smoothly for the denizens and immigrants alike. (Likely will make him Lycan or Profane Soul, depending on how his character fleshes out) Link: https://ddb.ac/characters/10341258/T2JTDY
The applications have been great so far! Just a reminder that ability score rolls should be rolled here so I can see them (if you roll your scores). Thanks
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Oh sorry, I anologue rolled them, I will reroll in forem here just to be fair though if my rolls are not that bad in either case I am cool with it. (Is min Maxing allowed, or must it be as spread? Also Drow still exist correct, thinking human father and drow mother with the character.) Ability scores: 131312121817
All of the normal races exist, but a few of them (aarakocra, gnolls, aasimar, hobgoblins, bugbears, and orcs) can't be played as. I'll explain this in more detail once the group is selected.
The night before taking the exam as a smith's apprentice, Hjolmek's dreams were haunting, filled with dark whispers. This caused him to fail the exam, but the nightmares only became more frequent. Strange magical things also started to happen to him. Eventually he almost went insane and had to flee his hometown. After wandering around the world, half fleeing from whatever chases him, half in search of some way to stop or kill it. By now he accepted his fate, he gave up his search and fleeing didn't help. He has grown dark, he still is good at heart, but recognizes the futility of existence.

rolls: Ability scores: 159178178
Name: Saribel
Race: Drow
Alignment: Neutral Good
Class: Fighter. (battle master)
Personality & Backstory: Born the first daughter of one of the eight ruling houses of Menzoberenzen, Saribel was raised to be a priestess, and completely disregarded this idea from nearly the get-go. Loving weapons combat and fighting, she decided that she wanted to be weapons master one day, only to be shot down. So she trained in her own time, watching the guards, and sneaking into academy lessons. As a priestess she was of course trained in combat herself, but it was a basic training and quickly over for more important matters such as worship to the Lady Lolth.
To test her skills Saribel would start challenging the men coming out of the academy, defeating many, and even managing to befriend a few. Gaining confidence over the years and winning more and more she became cocky, and challenged the weapons master of the second ruling house, considered the most skilled fighter within the city. She was badly defeated, and horribly humiliated, and then horribly punished by her mother for bringing shame upon the house in many ways. And so she decided that Menzoberenzen held nothing more for her. It was a place she didnt belong, and didn't seem to want her. So she left to join the forces of Bregan D'earthe.
Saribel is an adventurous spirit, who loves to try new things, and get herself into trouble. She's rash, though not usually reckless, and confident in her abilities as a fighter. She loves facing down a challenge, and is prone to accept challenges put forth to her, even if maybe she shouldn't. Outcast in drow society, Saribel actually believes that men have a lot to offer, and a lot to teach. She doesn't believe herself above the men of her race as most do, and has never cared for the teachings of Lolth. She would like to someday make a change in drow society, and see it grow for the better of all. She was probably sent to New Angleward for a Bregan D'earthe presence on the continent, and to learn more about it.
