Lorahzt turns to Allison and says, "During my brief stint as a scout I learned a thing or two about tracking and what to look out for, but it was never my forte. If I had a minute or so to prepare, I could sculpt foxholes or basic fortifications out of earth to hide within or behind, and I can fight as well as any soldier if we get into a scrap. That said, as far as stealth and subterfuge are concerned I'm probably a liability. I can't lie to save my life, and even without my chainmail, I tend to run into every bramble patch I come across." She looks away for a moment. "It's... probably why the scouting corps was so desperate to get rid of me..."
'Reentering the Hall, Blade hears the others talking about their skills, in particular stealth and other capabilities relating to subterfuge. The half-orc solider takes note, but right now the walking armoury is *clanking* somewhat in his new even heavier armour, and merely says,'
"Blade will.... we must... do what ever is necessary for the mission. Walk or ride? Speed can be better than silence. We will reach Fort Reckoning faster on horseback and potential foes will have less time to intercept."

"The most dangerous places are along the wooded hillsides. The rebels take advantage like bandits to make up for inferior numbers. Most of the Rebels have retreated across the Queen's River and have been offering resistance theirs, whether these others are left on purpose or cut off we do not know, so it is unknown how far those on our side of the river reach. Though most reports of attacks come from the road, so most of their influence is focused there." Melina returned to her papers as the group talked when she heard all the talk about planning she called them over. "Unfortunately we lack the spare horses to provide you with. In the town's stables, they have some but they are far from war mounts and I would suggest not engaging while riding them unless you can afford to replace them."
(Others have not replied, but we will move it forward.)
The party heads out shortly after noon. The road gently winding around the low hills of the otherwise flat plains of the Tiers. The roads do have some trees around the road but from your viewing not enough to support an adequate ambush. After several hours of travel, you have only crossed path with a few other travelers. Is there anything you wish to look for while on the road?
Vik is still wearing his Jared mask, so he looks like a youngish Disfavored solider. He will scrutinize the other travelers as they pass, to see if they are potential threats. Otherwise, he will keep pretty quiet, staying focused on searching for potential threats on the road.
'Nodding to the changling while he listens to Melina's words, Blade remarks,'
"So we buy mounts or walk."
'When the consensus appears to be to walk, Blade merely shrugs. On the way out of the city, the soldier returns to the armourer and spends the gold that he had saved for a mount on a well-made but relatively light weight chainshirt, which he dons immediately, stowing his scalemail in his pack for later use. Returning to meet his new travelling companions near the city gates, the half-orc says with his usual concision,'
"Scouts? Who will run point? I will be the vanguard of our main contingent."

Drake is pleased with the group. "Thanks for being willing to run point Vik, we need all the awareness we can get on this road."

With everyone getting ready to ride out, Lorahzt took her changeling ally's advice and purchased a pair of healing potions before they left. Without any other magical sources of healing, they would have to make do with alchemy and field surgery, and one of those was far slower than the other.
When the time came to decide on a scout, Lorahzt let Vik take the post, saying, "Go right ahead. I can take over if you need a break at some point."
Lorahzt will keep her eyes open as they travel, but she'll be focused more on the terrain around them, paying careful attention to any hills or forests by the road that could be hiding an ambush.
'Blade nods at the changeling's offer to take point, but merely says,'
"Stay within our sight and signal if you detect anything dangerous or suspicious."
'The half-orc soldier then quicken's his stride to stand at the front of their main group. Blade will alternate between checking on Vik's position and scanning the surrounds to either side of the party's trek. Blade has his longbow in his left hand, his right never straying far from the side-quiver at his hip.
Once an hour or so of travel-time has passed, the previously silent man will say in Allison's general direction,'
"If our goal is to avoid detection, should we not leave the road?"

(The halfling would have informed you that you should reach your destination shortly after nightfall.)
You move along the road down towards Fort Reckoning, nothing catching your eye that seems to matter. You cross paths with several sets of travelers but they do little more than offering a nod before continuing on their way, away from the fighting to the south where you are headed. You are probably only a few hours before the fort when you hear the faint sound of fire crackling on the road ahead of you. On the trees beside the road around the bend in the road for the hill, you see the light from a rather small fire dancing along the trees, though what is burning is not entirely clear.
As you turn in the road it becomes clear by the tattered banner planted into the ground that it had been a Disfavored caravan, one wagon laying on its side while another one has a fire slowly dying. Several remains of smashed crates and bodies of Disfavored strewn about the battlefield mark it clear as day for a successful rebel attack. Leaning against the side of the overturned cart a Disfavored recruit holds onto a gaping wound in his gut.

"Do we have access to mounts as part of our service? " Tibark is ready to go, debate, discussion these were why he shunned formal service.
Vik nods in agreement to Blade's words.
"I agree, faster would be better."

"Sounds like we're going for a walk"
Vik is eager to get started. As they are heading to the gate, he quickly stops at an alchemists to pick up a couple of healing potions.
Vik will say to the party. "If you are able, I would recommend getting 1 or 2 of these. They could save your life one day! ((and we have no healers))"
As they march, Vik will stay close to the back of the line. He will have his bow in hand, but not loaded.
((Are we heading out, or are other people still doing stuff in town?))
