Having come to the aid of Daggerford's defence on more than one occasion, a friend and benefactor you have become acquainted with, a Duchess Morwen, has invited you to dinner. You know that the duchess resides in the keep and start making your way there.
As your walking, there is a cool autumn breeze that blows through the streets on the approach to the keep. When you arrive, you realize that you are not the only person that has been invited to dine with the Duchess.
OOC: Feel free to introduce your characters before going inside for the dinner with the Duchess, a chance to introduce your character to everyone. Looking for 4-5 people in total but will start with 3 people. For your commitment: if you don't respond within 1 week I'll guess you left - I'll try and get back to posts straight away but if not allow up to three days for this (though I should be ready by the next day if not sooner).
Hansen Ras is a somewhat tall individual wearing a chain hauberk, a simple gorget, and a large pauldron on his left shoulder with a raised neck guard on one of its plates. Underneath the hauberk is a simple quilted tunic that goes down to his knees, split down the middle for ease of movement. Over it all he has a white and gold cloak with a shield strapped to his back and a mace looped at his belt.
His black hair falls down in rivulets to his shoulders and there's a hint of a smile on his lips as he walks up the steps to the keep, his greaves thumping on the steps.
Hearing footsteps behind him, Hansen turns to see an elegant woman making her way up the steps. He had thought that he would be the only one going to the Duchess at first, but with the way this woman was dressed, it seemed she had business with the Duchess as well. Thinking on it, it did seem unlikely that he'd be called to her ladyship alone despite how friendly they'd gotten with each other.
Placing a hand on the weapon at his belt, he gives a slight bow to the woman. "You're going to Duchess Morwen as well, I suspect?"He asks.
Roselina had seen as the man bowed and then asked if she was going to see Duchness Morwen. She was right about the fact that he was going to see her as well, curtsying to him. "Yes, I was invited here to have dinner with Duchess Morwen. I did not expect that there would be others joining us though. I am Lady Roselina Pridebloom, daughter of the Pridebloom family and heiress to the throne. What is your name, good sir?" Roselina had then said back to the man, giving her formal introduction and awaiting his. Judging from his shield and mace, is he a warrior of some sorts?
A noble, then. Well, it only made sense considering the Duchess was also a noble, but he didn't think he'd be in the company of others. "I didn't expect others as well, but the more company the better. I am Hansen Ras," he said with a smile, "a humble servant and cleric of Pelor."
Vrakvroth Esstyrlynn dismounted and handed the reins of his horse to an attendant at Duchess Morwen's residence. He adjusted his sword and then strode up the steps of the house.
He had watched two others enter the home and he followed behind them. He stood very tall, powerfully built he stood erect and proud. His black dragon skin was almost a dark grey. He introduced himself when he caught up with them.
"I am Sir Vrakvroth Esstyrlynn at your service." He bowed slightly to Roselina. "My lady, a pleasure to meet you." He then turned to the man. "A cleric of Pelor? It is an honor to make your acquaintance."
He smiles, his yellow eyes shining. "I am knight and paladin in service to Bahamut."
The clop of hooves caused Hansen to turn once more, seeing another approach. Exactly how many people had the duchess invited to this dinner? A cleric, a noble, and someone who seemed armed and armoured as if ready to go into battle like him seemed a rather interesting group of people to invite to a dinner. But he didn't question it; or at least not yet, he was sure the Duchess would give ample answer soon enough.
Instead, Hansen smiled when the warrior approached, his eyebrow rising when he said he was a paladin. That made him something of a brother, especially since he was a paladin to bahamut. A mortal sword to a god whereas Hansen himself was the link to that god in the mortal world. "It is my pleasure, Sir," he said with a bow, "I am Hansen Ras. It's far more interesting to meet a paladin of Bahamut I'd say. Quite the interesting lot we're making here, wouldn't you two say?"
Vrakvroth smiled, though it seemed more of a menacing grin with sharp teeth. When you are descended from dragons, especially black, it is hard to not seem threatening even when you are smiling.
"Yes, it would seem something is afoot beyond just an invitation for dinner and the pleasure of our company. I am sure our host will explain in good time."
The smile with all of its sharp teeth made Hansen a little uneasy but he chuckled it off, even as the hairs on the back of his neck were raised on end. It wasn’t often he’d come across a dragonborn and seeing one before him, armed and armoured as he was, was a little disconcerting. But, this was one of Duchess Morwen’s allies and a paladin of Bahamut as well.
More to ease his own disquiet, Hansen grinned as well. “It would seem that would be the case,” he said, then nodding to the door he continued, “perhaps our Lady Rosalina would like to take point?”
Roselina listened as the male introduced himself and said that he is a Cleric of Pelor. Interesting, she knows of the Clerics in her kingdom and Hansen looks more stronger and charismatic compared to them. "I am honored to make your acquaintance, Hansen." she said back to him with a smile and nod, glad to have a healer around. Then she heard footsteps, very surprised to see a very not human, dragon-looking male as he introduced himself and greeted them, mentioning that he is a knight and Paladin of Bahamut. Is this one of those Dragonborns that she has read and heard of? Her kingdom is made up of only humans and with good reason, all the other races are beneath them naturally. Dragons are dangerous and half of them tend to be evil so it only makes sense that Dragonborn could easily decide to side with the Dragons to destroy humans at any time. "...Yes, it is a pleasure to meet you Sir Vrakvroth. My name is Roselina Pridebloom." she said back to him with a curtsy and convincing enough smile. Then Hansen introduced himself and questioned how they are making quite an interesting lot as she nodded back in agreement while the Dragonborn said that something must be afoot beyond an invitation for dinner and having their company. "This is an interesting group, I must agree. But considering our positions and titles, it would make sense after all." Roselina had told them, wondering why on earth the Duchess Morwen would possibly know and get along with a Dragonborn. She shivered when he gave that menacing grin with sharp teeth, not trusting that and hoping Hansen can protect her from him if the time comes. Soon she heard Hansen question if she would like to take point as she smiled and nodded back to him. "Yes, thank you. I will take the lead." Roselina said back before she knocked on the door, waiting for a response to come inside or for someone to answer the door and let them into the keep. Hopefully the Duchess will give some answers as to why they are all here besides just for dinner.
Answering the door was one of the duchesses butlers. An older gentleman maybe in his late 50s, greying hair and a goatee for a beard. Opening the door, he gestures for the three of you to enter and leads you to the dining hall where the duchess awaits your arrival. Already sitting at the table is another figure, a goliath, who none of you are familiar with, and the Duchess herself sitting at the head of the table. "Ah good, you've all arrived," the Duchess began looking at the four of you. "Please, I'm sure you've saved yourself for the dinner so please eat, we can get to business with full stomachs," she says, smiling warmly.
Set on the table are hot and spicy soups, cooked pheasants, an array of vegetables that can be taken, but from the smile and the way she is speaking it is obvious that the Duchess seems... more out of sorts than usual.
"It may be good for you to use this dinner to get to know each other, as I've chosen the four of you to look into a particular matter that is going on just outside of town," the Duchess finally says putting down her cutlery next to her unfinished meal. "I have some... concerns about some travellers that arrived a few days ago and have made camp just outside the city walls. I know Daggerford isn't a big town, but we have taverns, which have rooms, and we aren't exactly keeping everybody out right now. At first, they seemed like just some harmless travellers that needed to rest for the night, but I've been told that they have started harassing town folks and other visitors to the city as they come and go. The reports have said that they are demanding money and wine from those that pass and threatening to put hexes on those who refuse to pay up.
I ordered some guards to try and scare away these visitors yesterday, but the camp still remains and the guards were unsuccessful. When they returned, they were sympathetic to these travellers, and it looked like that they had been charmed by them magically to do so.
That's where you come in. I've chosen you all because of your various... skillsets that may be helpful in this situation.
If possible, I'm not looking for any armed conflict with these travellers, but I do want a message delivered to these... travellers and I want the four of you to make sure they get that message. Feel free to head out as soon as you've eaten, guards on the walls are keeping a close eye on the camp - which is just up the hill outside the gates of the town, near the road. You won't miss it."
With that, the Duchess picks up her cutlery once more to finish her food and leaves the four of you to eat, prepare and begin the short journey.
(OOC: As everyone else had posted an introduction, thought our new player could be inside already as they had already knocked on the door - that way you're now all together, feel free to chat/get to know each other over this dinner and the journey to the travellers' campsite).
He followed the butler inside the building as he guided them towards the dining hall. And as they walked he couldn’t help but look around. Most of his life he’d been surrounded by simplicity; at least from the moment he left his lavish lifestyle behind and joined Pelor’s temple; and seeing things as they were now, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret. A sort of what if scenario momentarily entering his mind where he was dressed lavishly and living in ease and comfort.
But, it mattered little now.
As they arrived to the dining hall, Hansen saw yet another strange figure: this time a goliath. He stopped, hesitating before making his way over to the table and sitting down, his chain hauberk shifting and clanging as he did so.
“Well met, friend,” he said nodding to the newcomer, then looked over to the Duchess as she spoke of the strangers on the hill just outside the city’s gates.
As she spoke he filled his plate with food and leaned back once she'd finished, his eyes lost in thought. So that was the reason they were here. It made sense now why she called so many for this, and the fact that the guards were unable to do something meant she needed something a little more. Perhaps diplomacy would work, or at the very least skills that the Duchess deemed they all possessed in some way, or meshed together well. That was the hope at least.
Cutting a piece of meat on his plate, Hansen looked over at the others. “Strange business this," he said putting the piece in his mouth and chewing for a moment. "Would any of you know any cultures or peoples that would do this commonly? Or perhaps they're bandits with a little sorcery on their side?"
(OOC: Hey Kharataka, for the sake of moving forward with the knock at the door, I placed you already in the dining hall before everyone else arrived, so we'll say this happened 10 mins earlier)
The butler nodded and gestured for the woman to enter leading her to the dining hall. She was the first to arrive, and the table was set to seat five people, including the Duchess. "The Duchess will be with you presently," said the butler as he left the room, and kitchen staff began to bring out serving trays of food like a line of ants until the spread filled the table. A few minutes pass and a woman in a very regal gown enters the room from a door on the opposite side that you were lead in through.
"Ah, welcome Jodrith, a pleasure to see you again. We will wait for the rest of our guests to arrive, I'm sure you'll get on with them. All of you have helped defend Daggerford in the past, and... ah, that's them now" she interrupts herself as she hears the chime of a bell indicating someone at the door. A few moments later, the group is all together in the dining hall with the Duchess (OOC: and the previous DM post takes place)
Jodrith sits at the table with a pile food already on his plate. Its hard to tell sitting down but he must tower around 8ft. standing and weighs who knows how much, just a wall of a figure. He wears this long coat that hangs all the way down to his ankles that has a heavily furred collar that appears to be made out of some type of grey/white long fur, possibly a wolf of some kind. The coat hangs open exposing his bare chiseled chest, a pair of dark brown cotton or wool pants, and heavy brown boots. A swirl of tattoo'd lines can be seen upon his chest and abdomen with a three lines going up the rear of his neck, the two outer lines splitting off at an angle while the middle goes right to the edge of his forehead. A maul sized to fit the figure who carries it sits upside down on the ground the length of it being taller than that of above average humans.
Acknowledging the man who approached and greeted him, "You as well" said with a strong voice, returning the nod as well. Looking to the other two people that had entered the room giving them a welcoming nod as well.
"Not sure who they are, but they don't seem to be taking the hint the Duchess is trying to give them..."
Vrakvroth entered the room behind the others. As they approached the table he bowed to the Duchess. "Duchess Morwen, a pleasure as always."
He looks at the massive man already seated. At almost 7 feet in height himself this man looks like he may be at least a foot taller than him. He had heard of such people but had never met one himself. Savage fighters is what he had hear, hearty and immensely strong, a good ally to have. "Good evening good sir, an honor to meet you. I am Sir Vrakvroth Esstyrlynn in service of Bahamut."
Taking his seat at the table the black dragonborn waits to be served his food and then eats as he listens to the words of the duchess. His eyes narrow at the mention of hexes.
"Evil seems to be afoot and it is good that you have called upon me to aid you in these trying times. I will..." he hesitates and looks around at the others at the table, "We will see that the situation is dealt with forthwith. I was just beginning to hear such reports myself but the opportunity to deal with the situation has not yet arisen. If they are robbing and hexing innocent travelers then they will pay for their evil actions." the last ends in a low growl.
Hansen looked up when the dragonborn spoke, the growl once more causing the hairs on the back of his neck to stand on end, but he grinned regardless. It was going to take some time for him to get used to that.
“They certainly will, Vrakvroth Esstyrlynn,” he said looking up from his food, “though I think a more… tactful and diplomatic approach may serve us better than intent to harm. At least in figuring out why they’re there in the first place.”
Roselina saw as a butler answered the door and gestured for them to come inside. She along with the others followed him through the halls and into the dining hall, seeing the Duchess but was surprised to see that someone else was already here too. That must be a Goliath with those markings, how freakishly tall he is and how barbaric he looks. Then the Duchess told them to sit down and eat since they must have saved themselves for dinner, able to get down to business on full stomachs. "It is a pleasure to see you again, Duchess Morwen." Roselina said to her with a smile before she sat down and looked over at the Goliath. "Greetings, I am Roselina Pridebloom, daughter of the Pridebloom family and heiress to the throne." she greeted him with a nod back and a simple smile, thinking that she will have to use short and simple words with him. Then she started to delicately eat, listening to the Duchess Morwen as she explained of the troubles that she was having right now, choosing the four of them to help her take care of it due to their unique skill sets. Roselina glanced at the others, noticing that she is the only woman of this group but figured that this would make sense since she can handle any negotiations and be diplomatic, using her magic while all the men can protect her and serve as the physical threats if her words do not work. She listened as Hansen questioned if anyone knew of cultures or people that do that commonly or if they might be bandits with sorcery. "Those with magic that use it for selfish purposes are all too common, especially with using hexes and charms to get their way. Right now it is only money and wine but if they so choose, they could easily escalate their demands further. Such fools need to be stopped before they can do any worse." she had said back, hearing the Goliath and agreeing with him as well. Soon she heard Vrakvroth talk about how they will deal with this situation, that the visitors will pay for their evil actions as he growled. Roselina shivered, finding it ironic that he talks about stopping evil but yet looks and acts evil as well. She heard as Hansen suggested that a tactful and diplomatic approach would be better than intending to harm them with figuring out why they are there in the first place. "I agree, it would be wise for us to figure out their motives and reasons for being here and why they do what they have been doing first. Then once we realize, we can come together with them to settle on some negotiations that work out for both parties. Of course if they don't want to cooperate with us, then I am sure with all of you by my side, we can....'persuade' them to leave by means of magic or violence should it come to that." Roselina had said back to him and everyone else, continuing to eat her food. As royalty and soon to be inheriting the throne, she is no stranger to taking part in negotiations with dignitaries and having to deal with commoners who simply won't listen to reason after all by means of words or magic. In this case, she will also have means of physical threats by violence to help deal with these folk that believe they can do whatever they want just because they have magical use of hexes and charms.
"Do not fear good man. All are given the opportunity to do the honorable thing. " Vrakvroth says in response to Hansen's concern. "Many times though my foes choose combat by arms to settle manners honorably. "
Watching as the other two sit and introduce themselves "Greetings Vrakvroth of service to Bahamut, and greetings to you as well Rosalina Pridebloom, daughter of the Pridebloom family and heiress to the throne. I am Jodrith." he says with a ever so slight smile. Obviously by looking at Jodrith, he was not typically hired for diplomatic purposes, but for those who didn't know, if it was possible he would not stand between a peaceful solution. Though if it came down to it, it would not be the first time his maul shattered bones and it definitely would not be the last either. "Magic is not high in my skillset, and though neither is diplomacy but I won't stand between your talks for a peaceful solution. Don't expect me to do the negotiating though for sly talking, deceptive lies, and false promises or whatever it is most negotiators do is also not in my skillset. If they wish to leave peacefully that would be for the best but if they don't then they will be dragged away." Jodrith looks around to read the responses from the room, for he knows he is not one of a smooth talking nature and is frequently told about his bluntness and has come to expect people to look at him weirdly.

Roselina Pridebloom glides her way through the streets, gracefully making her way towards the keep while giving off an overwhelming aura of royalty and superiority. She stands at 5'9" with long legs and a decent-sized chest, having smooth flawless porcelain skin like that of a doll. She has sapphire-colored eyes and wavy blonde hair that goes down to her waist, perfectly styled and with a silky-shine to it, adorning a gold headband with flowers and strings of pearls. She wears an elegant floor-length ballgown in varying shades of blue, gold, white, and purple with intricate details such as the flowers and 'swords' that together make up the family crest. Roselina is also wearing a blue and black hooded capelet with gold trim and pearls, clasped together by an amethyst jewel along with short white gloves that have blue fur trim and a small gold jewel. She also has a beautifully matching bag on her back, carrying all of her much needed items like a rapier and her viol. Upon arriving at the keep, she is very surprised to see that she is not the only one visiting the Duchess for dinner as she walks up the steps like a swan. Is he perhaps a bodyguard that Duchess Morwen has recently hired?
Hearing footsteps behind him, Hansen turns to see an elegant woman making her way up the steps.
DM - GA's Baldur's Gate
