Hansen leaned back against his chair as the others spoke, his eyebrows shooting up when Roselina introduced herself to their new companion as the heiress to the throne. He knew she must have been some highborn, but to come from a royal bloodline was far beyond his expectations.
“And these may well choose to fight instead,”he said in response to Vrakvroth, “which I suppose you and Jodrith can handle easily enough should it come to that. Also, don’t worry, Jordith, Pelor saw fit to give me a bit of his divine sorcery, so magical aid hopefully shouldn’t be a problem.”
"Aye, by my honor and sword I do not engage in sly talking, deceptive lies, and false promises as you say. I speak plainly and with truth in all things." Vrakvroth replies
The duchess mentions "As I said, try not to resort to violence off hand... but if they haven't left by sunrise tomorrow, their carts will be set aflame, whether the message was delivered or not," she says matter of factly in response. She didn't sound like she was joking.
Jodrith looks to the Duchess, "You know I will make sure your message is delivered and in the fashion that you desire. They will know of the consequences of their actions and if they do not cooperate then you know I shall carry out the consequences that you wish. Me being here means I haven't failed you yet, Duchess."
Roselina chuckled and shook her head as she heard Vrakvroth talk about all doing the honorable thing. "From the sounds of these people, they very much would not be the type to want to be honorable." she had said before the Goliath greeted them, saying his name and talking about how magic and diplomacy are not high for him but wouldn't get in the way of their talks for a peaceful solution. He didn't want them to expect him to do negotiations since sly talking, deceptive lies, and false promises are not in his skill set as well. He mentioned that it would be best if they leave peacefully but that they would be dragged away if they don't, agreeing. "Yes, do not worry. I will handle the negotiations and talking. But sometimes when someone or a group of people will not be peaceful and cooperate, using force to stop them by any means is necessary." Roselina said back with a smile, knowing how obvious it was that a Goliath would not be smart or eloquent enough to make talk or even lie to others. Then she heard Hansen talk about how Jordith and Vrakvroth can easily handle a fight if that happens and saying how Pelor gave him divine sorcery so magical aid will not be a problem. It certainly seems that this is a perfect group with two spellcasters and two fighters, her being the face of them and doing all the talking for this particular mission. She was surprised when Vrakvroth said that he does not engage in sly talk, deceptive lies, or false promises; finding that hard to believe with being a Dragonborn after all. Soon the Duchess told them to try and not resort to violence off hand but that if the visitors haven't left by sunrise, then their carts will be set aflame no matter if the message was delivered or not. "Of course, we will try not to unless absolutely necessary. We will make sure to deliver the message and have them leave before sunrise. Shall we get going then?" Roselina had said back to the Duchess Morwen with a nod before suggesting to the others that they should get going soon, having finished eating her food. She also heard Jodrith tell the Duchess that her message will be delivered, to carry out the consequences she wishes should they not cooperate and how he hasn't failed her yet.
"You won't have to Vrakvroth, hopefully," he said with a grin, "leave that to Lady Roselina and me if it comes to it. But yes, I agree we should head out. Perhaps we could talk with the guards at the gates to find out a bit more about these strangers and what they're about? Make it easier to convince them to stop whatever nonsense they're doing."
Seeing the majority of the group ready to depart, Jodrith stands, finally revealing the entirety of his massive form. Grabbing the huge maul by the hilt with one hand, he flips the weapon over letting it land on his shoulder to rest. "Shall we?"
Vrakvroth pushes his chair back and stands. Turning to the Duchess he again bows.
"The courtesy of your table is appreciated my lady. As always the wisdom of your choices is reflected in those you have assembled for this task. I assure you we will not fail."
He then turns to the others.
"I must return home for a moment and gather some gear for this quest. I will meet you at the gates of the city leading to our quarry."
With that he strides from the room. He finds his horse ready, held by one of the duchess's attendants. He quickly mounts and spurs the horse into a quick canter.
When the rest of the party reaches the gates leading to where the travelers can be found he rides up. Now a lance is held in his right hand though his sword is still at his side. On his left arm he bears a shield emblazoned with the head of a silver dragon in a blue shield, crossed with swords.
"I am ready to proceed" he remarks as he reins in.
Hansen stands up after Jodrith, “we shall,” he says just as Vrakvroth walks out of the hall claiming that he would meet up with them at the gate. He gives his own bow to the Duchess, his and on the mace. "You have our thanks for the dinner, my lady,"he says, then nodding to Jadrith and Roselina walks out of the building and makes his way down the steps, through the winding streets, and finally to the gates where he sees the dragonborn on a horse.
The sight of Vrakvroth gave him pause. It wasn't every day he got to see a dragonborn on a horse and the image was both rather impressive and strangely frightening at the same time, especially with the way he was armed and armoured. He approaches one of the guards. "You heard about those strangers on the hill yonder?" He asks, "know anything about them?"
"You talking about those travelling folk?" the guard replies "We've been watching them since they arrived, nothing but trouble them lot. No idea where they're from, but if your going there, keep an eye on anything valuable" he continues. "And... well... their campfire... it does... odd things. Wait, are you the group that the duchess are sending in? I guess you've helped us out before. Maybe you could get them to move along, their starting to scare the townsfolk."
With the two gentlemen already departed, Jodrith looks to Roselina, "Would you like an escort, princess?", looking to the Duchess one last time giving her a low nod out of respect before departing.
Roselina had heard as Hansen told Vrakvroth to let her and him if it comes to that before wanting to head out and giving the idea of talking to the guards at the gates to find out more about the strangers first. Then the Dragonborn had said that he had to go back and gather some gear, how he will meet them at the gates. She nodded, watching him leave before Hansen thanked the Duchess and soon left too. How rude, shouldn't the lady go first after all? She then stood up and looked over at the Duchess, curtsying. "Thank you very much for inviting me for dinner Duchess Morwen, and I will make sure that we do not fail." Roselina had said back to her with a nod. But then she was surprised when Jodrith asked if she would like an escort, nodding back with a smile. "Yes, I would like that. Thank you, Jodrith." she said back before leaving the keep with him, glad to know that at least someone as barbaric as him even has manners. So she walked with him to the gates, seeing Vrakvroth approach on a horse and now having a lance and a shield on him as well. Then they all went to the guards, Hansen asking if they heard about the strangers and if they know anything about them. She listened as the guards told them that they are trouble, to keep an eye on anything valuable and how their campfire does odd things. It seems that they can do magic then, more than charms and hexes if they can affect fire too, hearing Vrakvroth ask about their numbers as well. "Yes, we will be sure to have them move along. Are they dressed in any particular manner, in common clothing or dirty rags, maybe anything exotic and not from this area? Do they have noticeable accents or ways of speaking and use of words that you've never heard of before?" Roselina had then asked the guards, wanting to get an idea if these strangers are ordinary folk with magic or maybe travelers from some far-off place who are unaccustomed to here and need guidance on how to behave themselves.
"We've seen around 12 of them, wearing very outlandish clothing. They would be similar to what you might see when the circus comes to town almost, colourful bold clothing, not exactly good for camouflage. It's almost as if they want us to know they are there," the guard responds to both of the questions. "And well, from the ones that got close their accent is definitely not local, but they seem to mostly speak in Common. Apart from that, there's not really that much we know about who they are, what exactly they want, and why they are here," the guard also mentions. "I've always been told to be careful around those sort of folk - and well, they're usually tight-knit communities, you offend one and you offend them all, as a word of warning," he finishes bitterly.
The other three being engaged in questioning and intel gathering suited Jodrith well. It allowed him to listen and observe the conversation and process everything that was being said. He knows that these people are trouble makers, they aren't from around this area due to the way they talk and dress, and they have some kind of affinity for arcane tricks. They don't appear to be causing physical harm so it probably won't come to a physical confrontation but Jodrith now knows he has to keep his whits about him. They have some type of ability to mess with the mind and apparently their camp fire holds some type of power as well. With all this being said the best route was probably to keep the negotiations short not allowing them to talk to much as well as keeping your back to or at least averting ones eyes away from the fire. Knowing their numbers now would probably be the last bit of useful information they would get from the guards. Jodrith now, in his mind, ready to face these people, leaned up against the wall close to the group letting his maul rest on the ground and would await the groups departure.
Wandering the streets of Daggerfall, Jinhazar, still dressed in his robes from the library, staff in one hand and bag in the other, stumbles through the cobblestone streets trying to keep all of his scrolls and equipment from falling out. Not looking where he is going, he stubs his toes on a maul and trips over himself. His bag slips out of his hands and papers, inkwells and quills go flying everywhere. He faceplants on the ground in front of a very large and imposing man in a fur coat. He begins to crawl about, trying to pick up as much of his supplies as possible. Without even looking up he telepathically speaks to the large imposing man, "I pray your forgiveness good sir. I seem to have tripped over something and I did not mean to startle you, if I did. Not saying that you are easily startled or anything." Quickly finding his staff next to him, Jinhazar stands up and strikes the ferule of his staff on the ground and casts Light on the pennet of his staff. One by one the seven stars in the emblem and then the pair of eyes light up and shine a light on the ground.
While leaning against the wall Jodrith sees an individual walk right into his giant maul and tumble onto the ground. The person didn't startle him but suddenly hearing a voice from which seemed to be literally inside his head took him by quite a surprise. Taking a moment to understand that it was actually the person in front of him doing this, he leans over and attempts to assist in the gathering of the spilled items. "No forgiveness is required, accidents happen and they are just that, accidents. Allow me to help you." and he begins picking up and returning a few items from the ground to its owner. "That was a neat trick you did there, that talking inside my head." Then seeing the glow arise from within the staff somehow, "You must be some type of wizard or something?".
Jinhazar looks up at the gentleman who helped him and without moving his lips, "No not a wizard, this is just how I've always talked." He looks up and just stares with a little awe and a little fright at this giant of a man. "Thanks for your help. I'm Jinhazar. And who might you be?"
