Ophirinn stands quietly as the group converses with the Sister, and offer a smile and thanks for the life the Sister restored.
Ophirinn then puts on a more serious face "If we are going to take on these Redbrands then we will want every advantage we can get, I suggest we sleep early so we can rise before most of them are awake; attacking the Redbrands whilst they are least ready for us."
It's still quite early in the morning. Sister Garaele frowns; The Redbrands will no doubt come looking for their missing friends. You could wait in town to ambush them today, of course. But I doubt they will wait quietly until tomorrow morning without seeking answers and retribution.
"We know where their hide out is and where they like to drink, i say we lure them out of their hole issue a challenge that their pride won't refuse but they'll be ready for a fight if we do that. The fact that they arent looking for us now means they dont know we are a threat yet so if we strike now chances are they won't see it coming" Brom piped in from the back of the group his arms crossed against his chest not in a hostile way more like lying in wait he also nods in thanks to the sister for the healing.
Sister Garaele moves to the fire and returns quickly with small cups of tea, which she serves to each of you. There are three people from the town who are missing, she says. Thel's wife Mirna, and their two children, Nilsa and Nars. Those are the ones we know of. But there are others. Several trade caravans usually come by this time of year. I know for sure that Linene is expecting a Lionshield delivery. But you are the first travellers to arrive in three weeks, I think. Perhaps the Redbrands are responsible for some or all of these things. I can't say for sure.
"There is one tactic I learned from being in the military, might do well here. We'd need a well known location, a clearing nearby?" Delmon looks toward the sister hoping she knows of one. "And we would wait here in town for the red cloak search party. We deal with them when they get here but leave one alive, tell him to tell their leader to meet us at the site for negotiations at a certain time. But, instead of meeting them, we go to their hideout and save any survivors and quell any remaining bandits. This would put us at an ever higher advantage against their leader, and we'd save who we could. Maybe even forcing their leader to surrender and letting the law deal with him properly for his wrongdoings. What do you think? Its a classic tactic, bait the enemy and then stab them in the back!" Delmon doesn't quite remember his tactic training and tends to ramble off a bit when trying to explain them out loud. He is very eager though. and it is easy to tell he is excited to see if the group goes with his plan.
I don't know what type of place would do well for your purposes, Sister Garaele says slowly. There is Daran Edermach's orchard just over there on the outskirts of town. She points to the west. Or if you needed somewhere further away, the old Tresendar Mine, about an hour to the south, is well known.
(You've visited or heard of most of the important locations in town, so I've replaced the blank map on the campaign page with one that labels most key buildings. https://www.dndbeyond.com/campaigns/470433)
Delmon eagerly replies, "The location an hour away sounds like it would do the trick. I wouldn't want them to meet near the town, without us being here they could very well take new prisoners before we came back. As for sneaking into their hideout, as long as the leader is gone any alarm will most likely not reach him before we save the prisoners."
Omnia, Sister Garaele replies; I'm not aware of any strange events at the mines. Many of the miners have been staying longer and longer in order to avoid coming to town and risk trouble with the Redbrands. They think it will all blow over, sooner or later. She frowns disapprovingly.
"you say there hasn't been many travellers come through since the redbrands have took up residence. How about before them anyone hung around after perhaps any sea fairing type? I am trying to find information on a ship, The Culgoa, I know its a long shot being so far inland but I always try and ask around"
A ship? No, and no sailors through either, that I can recall. Sister Garaele seems amused momentarily at the thought of a ship in Phandalin. No, I'm afraid not. Of course, some of the merchants who pass through have travelled by sea from time to time, but I recall no mention of a Culgoa. Toblen would be the one to ask, if you haven't done so already.
“I mean I could write a letter if you wanted to take the blunt approach...” Leo says turning to Ophirinn.
”... either that or we could try and lure out the Leader by word of mouth. The Sleeping Giant is their usual haunt, right? We might be able to ‘drop a hint’ that a meeting is going down at a set place and time in there. I’m sure rumours travel quickly in this town.”
"Maybe Nate can change into a bird and drop the letter at the door, if we are going with that approach, or if we let one red cloak live through the ambush we have planned for the search party he could deliver a message" Brom suggested he liked the plan Delmon came up with, it's logical and sound.
"Thank you sister that is much appreciated" She turns and looks at Brom. "We also have some redbrand uniforms perhaps one of us could disguise ourselves and infiltrate the redbrand"
I, um, can't fly, says Nate apologetically. I mean, I can't become a bird. Not yet. Maybe in the future, when I have more experience. But anyway, I think they're all good ideas. I'll go along with whatever you agree.
(OOC: If someone, maybe Delmon, could lay the plan out for me, with any revisions based on other players' suggestions, that would be very helpful. If you want to keep discussing it, that's fine too, but it's important to bring that to a close soon and get the plan underway. Let me know when you're ready. :) )
"Alright look," Delmon starts, "The way I see it is we have two courses of action.
One: We wait for the red cloak search party to come to town and ambush them. We leave one of those red cloaks alive and send him back to their leader to take them to our.. 'meeting place'. Then we go to their hideout and save who we can.
Or two: We head to them now, and deal with them at their hideout.
But we need to decide this sooner rather then later, our time to act is running out so, I propose a vote. Which plan do you prefer to take? One, or two?" Delmon waits for responses from the group.

"I knew Delmon would come through with a plan!" Leo thought, excitement creeping in.
"I like it... divide and conquer! Do you think there may be a way of entering their hideout without sounding an alarm?"
