((Oof, sorry for vanishing yous! Been caught up with work and a summer research project for school. Can someone catch me up so I can throw Idalie in the mix?))
Now that you are gathered at the top of the pit, you can see it clearly. It's about fifteen feet deep, and Brom is not too badly harmed. The walls of the pit are not too hard to climb, you think, and with the rope it will be easy enough for Brom to get out.
"I'm fine! Wasnt even all that deep." Brom calls up to assure his team and checks to see if the rope can support his large frame with a few sharp tugs before using it to climb out. But before he does he checks around the hole for anything left from previous victims that have fallen in just as he did
Brom, you find lots of twigs, leaves and grass, but nothing interesting or valuable. You climb out of the pit, lightly injured and empty-handed. The rope is strong and takes your weight without a problem.
Back on the surface, will you resume your path along the trail?
With a slightly bruised Brom still leading, you resume your journey.
Following the trail, you come across a large cave in a hillside five miles from the scene of the ambush. A shallow stream flows out of the cave mouth, which is screened by dense briar thickets. A narrow dry path leads into the cave on the right-hand side of the stream.
It's late afternoon now; the air cooling and the sky clear. You stand together about sixty feet from the cave mouth.
Ophirinn takes a second to inspect the cave for any resent signs of activity.
Perception: 7
"The way I see it is we have two courses of action, we can either try to enter now whilst time is on our side but without all us being in the best condition, or have a rest till morning when we will be more prepared."
Ophirinn, you see that the path leading to the cave mouth has footprints in the wet earth, but you've no idea how many creatures passed through or when. You can't really get any sense of other activity - the thickets around the cave mouth are quite dense, and the tall grass in the surrounding area could hide something. You're not sure.
Brom started to think for a bit they didnt know if Gundren or Sildar was still alive there was a chance and waiting could forfeit their lives but rushing in blindly could prove fatal. "What is everyone current condition? I know Ophirinn is exhausted, I'm a bit bruised but nothing more. Also for the spell casters of the group how many more spells can you use today?"
Nate looks on as Brom climbs out of the hole. "Glad to see you are not hurt badly hurt Brom... that could've been bad" says Nate as the party moves forward. As they reach the mouth of the cave, he listens intently to Ophirinn and the options he presents. Nate has never really been in the presence of (or even seen for that matter) a Dragonborn and so is very reserved with interacting with him simply out of fear but is coming around as they travel together.
"I think we need to rest. Omnia is in no shape to go in there and I think we all have a few bumps and bruises that we should probably mend before we head in there. That being said, if we were going to take a longer rest we might've been better to take it away from this cave so perhaps we should just keep moving forward and into this thing. Anyhow - let me check our surroundings to make sure there are no immediate threats that could either interrupt our camp or follow us in depending on what we decide to do. I will leave it up to you guys..."
Nate doesn't really finish his sentence before he morphs into a Wolf and will as quietly and as quickly as possible run around the perimeter of the party say 100-150 feet to check and sniff out the immediate surroundings. More specifically the tall grass that Ophirinn just told us about that he saw. The Wolf has keen hearing and smell which gives advantage on the perception check and I will also roll a stealth check just in case you need it DM.
Nate's form shimmers and shifts, and a wolf slinks off through the grass and bushes towards the cave mouth, silent and unseen.
Nate, your keen ears pick it up almost as soon as your shape changes; the sound of two goblins speaking. A quick glance around tells you they are in the thicket near the mouth of the cave. They are talking to each other, in not particularly low voices. As you get closer, you begin to see the two forms; they are sitting, not looking at the party, and from their movements appear to be playing cards. You surmise they are on watch, but are neglecting their duties.
They are near the cave mouth, perhaps sixty feet from the rest of the party; the rest of you cannot see them. Wolfnate has approached to within twenty feet of the goblins, and is completely undetected. Looking into the cave itself, you don't see any sign of activity; there is a path that leads further in, following the gentle stream.
OOC - Nomadic I know... that was nuts. Too bad I can't make it happen in combat :)
Nate lowers his posture beneath the thicket/long grass and thinks to himself "If I go back and tell the others, we will all risk being detected sneaking back up on them...."
He will immediately morph back into human Nate form and then cast Ice Knife at what he thinks is the most ugly of the two goblins.
"Goblins!!! Over here everyone!" he then yells out to his comrades so they can rush into battle.
OOC - so I have a few rolls to make for Ice Knife but I am not aware if I get any type of advantage with that situation since I will be surprising them with that spell? Or if the initiative starts now since I am calling out to the party immediately after? I will await your guidance - thanks!
(The goblins will be surprised for the first round of combat. Omnia, you have disadvantage on the initiative roll because you are exhausted, but you don't have disadvantage with attack rolls during combat.)

(No worries. The party is following a trail to try to find where Gundren and his friend have been taken. And Brom just fell down a pit trap.)
((Awesome, thanks! Well besides Brom falling down into a pit trap anyways lol. Did we camp/take a long or short rest before setting out or no?))

I gather up my rope first and put it back in my kit bag before we move on
