Thia's dimple appeared on her cheek as her smile brightened further on her face, she was genuinely happy to see Thaddeus at reception. She'd bow her head in respect as he welcomed her. "Good morning Thaddeus. I'm here on an errand for the professor this morning. There are some texts he has asked me to collect on my way to the presentation and I was hoping you may be able to assist me again today."
"I'm Emma, sir, an' the paper's two copper. As to them streets, it's been like this since the orcs an' goblins in them factories are paid. They round up orphans an' ax'em to work in the factories, for food an' shelter. For most, it's an opportunity. They ain't take me, since I'm a girl and small for ma age. But they that get took don't come back, so I thinks they's happy there. Better than stayin' on the streets or workin' in one of them 'stablishments." She's bubbly and excited that someone stopped by for a chat. Milo figures that she's about ten, maybe telve, but her comment about being small for her age makes him wonder what the exact age of the urchin was, and whether she even knew.
At the sight of the gold piece, her eyes widen, and she is silent for a moment, before continuing: "Well sir, there'd by the Hollow Hearth, a coupla blocks down that way. it's a place run by an ol' widow, who took in some of the neighbourin' kids and looks after them. Else, just walk the streets, you'll be findin' us for sure."
As Milo skims the headlines, three items stand out.
Bloody Battle for Borogrod Continues - some story about the Zhivarg Civil War up in the North
Madman escapes from the Duskrock Asylum - a warning about a Thomas Reed, who broke out of the Duskrock Asylum for Combat Veterans, killing two wardens in the process.
and the main title spread Sensational Sparks- Can His Inventions Unite Corphyra? - a puff piece, probably sponsored by the man himself, talking vaguely about his presentation on the Hill before the Corphyrean Council today.

What does the professor want this time? Lemme see his slip." He starts to fumble around for his glasses, distractedly. Thia sees them lying on the table, serving as an improvised bookmark. Thaddeus doesn't seem to remember having left them there.

"Oh of course, the slip." Taking the opportunity of Thaddeus being without his glasses, Thia reached into her bag and grabbed the document she forged, handing it to the receptionist before he could reach for his glasses. "He's looking for additional herbalist and potion texts for his new medical research."
“Thanks for the news Miss Emma. I don’t want to alarm you, but working for goblins and orcs is no easy life. I pray for all of those taken. You’re fortunate you’re still here. Make sure you stay here and keep an ear out. There is plenty of news going around that never makes the papers. I’m always appreciative of information” Tapping the coin he just handed her. He gives a charming smile and takes to the street as directed by the girl. Spending time roaming the streets, shops, and markets, looking for nobody in particular, but anyone he can make an impression on. When appropriate will go to the hill for this presentation he read about.
Thaddeus fingered for the slip, holding it up to his squinted eyes. For a moment or two, Thia was afraid that her ruse would fail, but without his glasses, Thaddeus gave up and handed the slip back to her. Slightly ashamed by his feebleness, he quickly went back to his jovial tone and gave her instructions as to where she could find what she was looking for. "The newest medical codices are in the Apothecary section, or here in the main hall, in the western wing, shelves SYX - TAD. That's where I'd look for potions. As to herbalism, you might find some books there, or else look in the Botany section or the North wing, shelves RUQ - URZ." With a smile, he went back to his work, and gladly found that he had left his glasses in the book. "Ah, there they are, how typical of me, foolish old man, forgetful... should just keep them in the same place all the time, then I wouldn't keep losing things." Thia carries on into the main hall of the library, with Thaddeus rambling in the background.

The apple vendor turns to Arc and shoots him a puzzled look: "Before sun rise? Why, I don't think any vendor would try and sell his wares before sun rise. I mean, who eats before the sun's up, that's just not natural. I am talking of myself here, but I'm sure that none of the others started selling apples before seven this morning. Arc doesn't answer the vendor, moving on to the next one. The more time he wasted here, the less time he'd have doing things that actually mattered. Not to mention, Arc doesn't like the idea of someone being tortured while he wastes time talking about apples.
Thia placed the note back in her bag, feeling some of her anxieties tuck away with it. With another courteous bow of her head she'd thank Thaddeus for his time as she carried her way into the main hall. She'd repeat his instructions to herself as she pulls out a pen and parchment to write them down on her way to the western wing first.
As Arc talks with more apple vendors, the consensus seems to be the same. None know of any other vendors that would sell apples in the early hours of the morning.

Back in the alley, Arc wearily examines the evidence again. Damned, if only he had spent a little more time thinking about this before, he chastised himself. The passersby had left a couple of new footprints and had added to the general litter, which would obfuscate the matter further. He still managed to find the match book and some of the pipe ash, though the match book had soaked up more of the night’s rain, and the print on it was by now illegible. Taking some of the ash and crumbling it between his fingers, he could smell a slight hint of exotic spices and the ash felt very fine, indicating either a good combustion meaning a good pipe, or a fine tobacco.
