“Not a guild member, no. My practice and training are nothing so formal as that, though I suspect my mother’s was. She’s the apothecary and doctor for a town out near the border. Learned everything I know about medicine from her.” Tarian started counting things off with her fingers. “What plants prevent disease, what plants cure them, which have analgesic effects, anesthetic, or poisonous—‘Everything starts in nature,’ she’d say. Since we weren’t near a major trade town like this,” Tarian eyed upward and gestured vaguely with her fingertips, implying Duskrock as a major trade town, “we had to gather supplies ourselves. I thought supplies were pretty expensive here—certainly more than what people that live in the Docklands can afford—but I suppose the guild negotiates lower prices for its members.”

Thia would listen intently to Tarian listing everything off. Eventually she would start chuckling. “Your mother sounds very wise. If I didn’t know any better, sounds like we were raised by the same woman.” She’d chuckle some more knowing the impossibilities of that. “Sounds much like my very own beginnings before I was shipped out to apprentice with a guild. Not all my training is formal, it’s only been in recent years.” She’d nod, “I prefer to gather supplies myself or improvise with what’s available. There are no merchants out in the field. So I can’t really speak for cost benefits.”
She’d look to Milo, “Looks like Tarian here pretty much has all the bases covered for you. She’s clearly very skilled. If you’re looking for Mr. Brandt he may not be too far from the forge considering Corti and I just left him. You may be able to catch him before he gets too far.” Thia would stand up from her seat and offer her hand to shake, “I have some work to attend too before I retire for the night, so I will take my leave. If you still believe you need me for your endeavour and have all your ducks lined up, I may be able to entertain the idea. Until then, I’ll be focusing on my other commitments.” She’d shake Milo’s hand, then go to Tarian’s “It was a pleasure to meet you and learn of your training. Thank you for sharing.” She’d smile and then go to take her leave. Before walking away completely, she’d give Corti a gentle pat on the shoulder. She’d look over her shoulder at the others, “If she wakes while I’m gone, I’d be happy to hear of it. Otherwise, I will check in when I’m in the neighbourhood.”
“I understand completely Thia, you have your business to attend to. I was leery to leave mine behind but thought it more profitable in the long run. If you are concerned about the workers, know that I have extensive plans with Mrs. Ling (I hope that’s her name) to establish much more infrastructure and healthcare opportunity with the future projects. I’m sure she wouldn’t need too much convincing to give you leave. But this was my one offer, I am not a man to beg, but come find me if you feel like you’re ready for some fresh air.” Milo will say pleasantly but very much all business.
Turning to Tarian. “I’m going to go find me a gunman, feel like a stroll?” With that Milo will leave in search of Mr. Brandt.
“As you wish, Mister Spudsder.” Tarian stood from her seat and bowed to Thia. “Miss Thia, it’s been a pleasure. I hope we meet again. Perhaps we could discuss herbs over a drink the next time Corti’s playing.”
Tarian stopped to look down at Milo. “You have any leads on said gunman, Mister Spudsder? All I have is a name, occupation, employer, and a place seen earlier in the day. If I knew where Mister Sparks was, I might start by asking him how they got in contact. Cannith forge yard would be my next bet, but I doubt anyone who was there to see him then would still be there now. Last and worst lead would be to try places mercenaries would generally gather and just ask if anyone’s heard of him. That could be just about anywhere. Bars, brothels, casinos, and hotels would be the big places to start, but no guarantees.”

With one more nod, Thia would take her leave and head outside. She’d take a deep breath enjoying some fresh air and place her hands on her hips. She’d take a look up and down the street. She’d get her bearings before starting the trek back to her dorm. Feeling a burst of energy, she may even enjoy a run home.
Milo lights his pipe and fluffs his coat, popping the collar up. “That’s what I pay you for isn’t it? That all sounds like a great idea to start. Lead the way.”
Brandt gets moving towards the Uptown Ward, since none of the shops here in the Forge have what he's looking for. How do people live in this ******* city? It's almost impossible to find anything.

On her way back to her dorm, Thia takes the time to take in the city, as she falls into a light jog. The exercise, the different impressions of the various street vendours, and the house fronts that look distinctly more utilitarian here in the Forge than back in Uptown all help take her mind off of the big decisions awaiting her. She was sad to note just how many children and adolescents she saw that were underfed and ill-tended to, trying to scrape a living off selling papers, bundles of firewood, matches or of shining shoes. She also spotted various young boys, clad in tatters and covered in soot. Chimney sweeps, an epitomy of the technological advances and the social inequalities that were ever prevalent in Duskrock. The more she took in, the more she understood the necessity for an organisation like the Veiled Valour. Everywhere she looked, she saw people that had been left behind, either as a result of the war, or as a consequence of the armistice that now no longer required their labour and their specific skillset. But judging by the offer she had recieved from Milo, the peace looked far less secure from the inside than the city itself might have made one believe.
Arriving after about forty minutes, sweating due to the mild day and the exercise, Thia went to her room. As she was about to enter it, she noticed a new name on the door next to her room. The plaque stood out, since it was the only new thing on the otherwise old door, still shining. Thomas Cornell. Hmmm, what had happened to Leo? She hadn't really seen him since the strike...

Once in the Uptown Ward, Brandt quickly gets the sense that he's on the right track. The alleys are brimming with tinkerers, inventors, and craftsmen, all peddling their wares, and all somehow connected in an intricate web of guild allegiances, contracts, and mutual friendships and obligations. After a quick stroll through one of the neighbourhoods, he entered a shop that seemed promising. The sign said "The Free Fusiliers", and an arquebus indicated the man inside as someone who might be able to sell him parts for firearms.
"Well, hello hello, welcome, please take a seat!" Brandt was surprised by an overly friendly kobold merchant, with a light lisp to his voice, and a foppish cap set upon his brow ridges. The entire outfit of the salesman was comical, not so much for what it was, but because it was highly unusual to see the finery of a well-to-do patrician on a kobold.
"I'm Master Mendraxes, and I see that you are a man of good taste. Your firearm there, who made it? It is exquisite work. May I inspect it?"

Tarian scowled. I hate when employers watch me work. Whenever they see me gather information and see one clue either lead nowhere or just to another clue, they always think I’m just some sort of gadabout, wasting their money and time. She looked down at Milo and tried to force a smile, but the knot in her brow refused to loosen. Well, he is paying me for bodyguard duty as well, and he’s not unbearable on a personal level, so at least there’s that.
"Well, I know I said it wasn’t likely, but let’s check the Cannith forge yard first. If someone can describe which Cannith Mister Brandt was talking to, maybe I can use my Cannith contact to track them down, and maybe they’ll know how to get into contact with Mister Brandt."
Tarian waved both hands as though she could ward off any argument. "I understand that’s a lot of 'if's,' but if this could shorten the trail, it would save a lot of time. I really don’t look forward to checking into every bar, hotel, casino, and brothel in Duskrock."
With that, Tarian thumbed in the direction of the Cannith forge yard. "Shall we, Mister Spudsder?"

Milo getting used to the furrowed brow of frustration seemingly over flowing from his new friend Tarian, simply uses minor illusion to have confetti flutter in the air around them. “Let’s go have some fun.”
I've been wondering about Leo lately. Where could he have gone? I did try to ask Corti about him, since she's the last person I saw him around... I wonder if this Thomas Cornell would have heard about what happened to Leo, who was in that dorm before him. I'll put a pin in that for now, maybe I can try running into him tomorrow.
After a couple days away, and being sweaty from her run, all Thia wants to do is take a nice hot shower. She'd open the door to enter her dorm, immediately kicking off her boots, almost stumbling in her haste, before closing the door behind her. She'd hoist her bag over her shoulder with a huff and hang it over her desk chair. She'd point to it before speaking out loud "You and me, we need to talk." She'd start some exaggerated stretches from her neck to her shoulders and from her arms to her back. "This bag of holding replication needs to happen." She'd shrug off her hooded jacket and hang it up, "I have some ideas for you, but they may need to wait longer. I'm thinking I want something else more, first..." Thia would unstrap her crossbow and place it by the bed, then start working on removing her armour, all the while looking for something else. "Hmmm. Would a flask or waterskin work? Do I have a jug?" She'd ponder about what could be used to replicate an Alchemy Jug, snooping through her own equipment and belongings, still chatting to herself "Maybe shower first, tinker and research after?" She still had those books from the library too...
"I made it myself when I was sixteen. I guess you can take a look at it." Brandt unstraps his rifle from his back and makes sure that it's not loaded before handing it to the Kobold. "But the real reason I came here is because I need parts for a weapon that I'm making." Brandt presents the designs for the pepperbox to Mendraxes. "How much are we talking about for the parts?"

Mendraxes gingerly takes the rifle from Brandt, inspecting it from various angles, struggling with the weight and size of the weapon, which was almost as tall as the kobold himself. His expert eye quickly scanned the flint-lock mechanism and inspected the barrel. "These grooves you have here... I have never seen something like this. But then again I see that you put a lot of ingenuity into this design. I must ask though, why not make it capable of being loaded from the breech?"
His two golden eyes transfixed Brandt, completely ignoring the design he had showed the kobold, instead intent on finding out more about this firearm and its mysterious creator.

After her shower, Thia would put on her PJs and have her hair up in a towel as she puttered around her dorm, tidying up as she did. Eventually she’d take her hair out of the towel and pat it dry. “Now let’s check out those books.”
Thia would make her way over to her bed where she threw the library books in her haste the other day. She’d pick them up, bring them over to her desk to lay them out. She’d pull out some parchment and her calligraphy tools before taking a seat. She will also pull out some of her own personal texts and notes to have on hand.
Tonight she would be focusing on researching materials and techniques used to create an original Bag of Holding and reviewing how it could have been replicated in the past. If she’s on a roll, she will also look for hints and clues on replicating an Alchemy Jug.
Thia pours over her books for most of the rest of the day, reading a wide selection of accounts and looking deliberately for mentions of a bag of holding or other arcane items that facilitate the transport of heavy loads.
Whenever she comes across an interesting or relevant passage, she would underline it, or even note the particulars on a piece of parchment on the side. After a while, she seems to have a rather good grasp of the function of the bag, and a few stories of mishaps with arcane containers opening up portals to other planes gives her the distinct sense that any incantation woven or stitched into the fabric would have to open a path to the Astral plane, as well as specify the two end points of the connection, in order for her to be able to retrieve and store the items consistently.
With that under way, Thia started to research what components and phrasings such an incantation could look like. She was sure that she’d require silver thread, but beyond that, the exact phrasing would have to be tested. Nevertheless, she had over the course of several hours come up with a workable blueprint for a prototype, and had three variations of the possible incantations written down.
Seeing the fading light of the afternoon sun, she decided to launch into research on alchemy jugs as well. Perhaps due to the focus on creating a bag of holding however, she realised after another hour or so that the sources she had brought along with her were somewhat inadequate. While some of the research she had done on the bag of holding could be useful here too, she struggled to come up with a way in which the jug would be able to produce the required liquids.
Ready to lay down her books, she took up her journal to take some notes on the day, when suddenly an idea struck her. Her mother had told her tales of druids, capable of creating water and food out of simple components, and nearly anywhere they went. She was unfamiliar with natural rituals or potential transmutation magics, but at least this could provide her with a further avenue of research in the future.

Mendraxes gave Brandt a sideling glance, before continuing: “Well, it’s a beautiful design, unfortunately too complex to convert easily to a breech loader, you would probably have to break it apart, which, beyond being a real shame, would likely have some negative consequences for its accuracy. Then again, I could see these grooves helping with that...”
The kobold fell into a concentrated silence. After a couple of moments, Brandt cleared his throat: “Hrm. Thanks for your professional eye, but what about the materials for this design here?”
Mendraxes, visibly annoyed at being disrupted in his tinkering, gave a bored look at the design, before glancing at Brandt again. “Yeah, I have some of this stuff. I could make your barrels and the stock. But as you know, for each design, flint lock and flash pan differ. I have some flints, but for this you’d be using it almost four times as quickly, plus there’s the wear on the flash pan. I can give you the stuff, but I would hate to see the design fail after a couple of shots. I could give you some tips on improving the designs slightly, to ensure increased longevity. Of course, such advice wouldn’t be entirely free of charge...”

Tarian headed straight for the Cannith forge, she was in no mood for a prolonged game of cat and mouse through the city, particularly when her pay was already low and most of it would have to be done on foot. She cared little that Milo struggled to keep up.
After a ten minute walk, she arrived at the factory yard, still occupied by the workers and their banners. The mills of politics grind slowly, and these workers would likely stay out here for a while longer, until they got the changes they wanted, Tarian thought to herself. Her mood darkened however, when she realised that they were likely too late, since no one apart from the workers was present here.
Milo caught up, huffing and sweating a little. It didn’t take long for him to be noticed by the crews however. One of them waved the two over, and within moments the gate was opened. Two workers with heavy shovels over their shoulders, somewhat reminiscent of pikes, guarded the entrance, but within Milo could see the large frame of Bellows, one of the foremen working for the Canniths. “Milo, how can we help you today? And who’s that friend o’ yours?”

Arriving back at the Cannith estate, Arc quickly made his way to his uncle’s study. Upon a couple of knocks on the door, he was asked to enter. Inside, he found his uncle, a wrinkled robe and ink stains on his hands, plus a good deal of stubble indicated that he had likely spent all night feverishly working: “Volten, good to see you. I’m waiting for news of our business with the General, the first batch of warforged should be about to ship out.”
The confused look on Arc’s face made his uncle pause, before his face became crestfallen, upon realising that he had mistakenly thought himself back in charge of the house’s business with the Brelish army, almost three decades ago.
It pained Arc to see his uncle like this, getting progressively worse as time went on. Good moments, interspersed with times of confusion and then often paranoia. He wished he could somehow convince his uncle to come out more.
Trying to cover for his slip up, Tiberius changed topic, seemingly more clear about his surroundings. “Yes, how can I help you?”
