Having been getting ready to go, Arc is suprised at the news, "Well, she definitely works fast. Bring her to guest hall, I'll be with her shortly." I give a thankful nod to Lucius before quickly returning to my room to fetch my bag & gold. Chances are, he'd have to pay out of pocket again.
After a quick minute, Arc will sit himself down in the guest hall and wait for Tarian's arrival.
Tarian always felt uncomfortable even looking at the homes in Northward. They were all too much building for any family to live in, she thought. But here she was being ushered into a guest hall. When she and Sylvia made it to the hall, Tarian quickly led Sylvia to a chair before Arc could greet her. Tarian, herself, remained standing.
“Forgive my rudeness, Mister Cannith, but I’d like to introduce you to Missus Sylvia Krull. She’s had a rough couple of days, so I wanted her to sit before we attend to our business.” Tarian gestured to Arc. “And Missus Krull, I’d like to introduce you to Mister Arc Cannith. He’s the one responsible for organizing your rescue.”
Sylvia blinked at Arc a couple of times. His illustrous name made the whole rescue all the more surreal, and she was still not entirely certain she wasn’t dreaming the whole thing. When she finally spoke, her voice was soft and timid, but not shaken, as one would expect it to be given her recent experiences.
“Mr Cannith, Miss Tarian, I can’t thank you enough, without you I’d be in a much worse position. And all that even though John had promised me he’d get out. I mean, that’s why we moved into the tenement in the first place.” Tears started to roll down her cheeks, but she continued, “I’m just at a loss as to what I should do now. The hand will heal, but I’ve been relying on it to do my own work. No one is willing to pay money for bad calligraphy...”

Milo was heading out of the Golden Gear, to meet up with Mei Ling as she’d present Milo to the workers and he could get an estimate of what her crews truly needed. After a twenty minute stroll, he arrived at the agreed meeting spot.
Looking around him, he had to double check if he had the right street. The structures before him would generously be called hovels. Most of the walls and roofs were patched and repatched with any materials available and he spotted several huts with nothing but a curtain for a door. Around him, a half dozen kids played with sticks and pebbles around a small puddle in the mud, still blissfully unawares of their squalid condition.
After a few moments, Mei Ling arrived, wearing her worker’s overall and tight leather coat against the morning chill. “Mr Spudsder, glad you made it out here. I wanted to start our tour here to emphasise what we were discussing yesterday. Food, medicines, wages or decent housing. A dozen of my best welders come from the Roughneck corner here. One, Terence, has also brough his son into the business. It might seem shocking to you, but many of my best workers are living like this, while our bosses are building estates in the Northward upon the back of their labour.”

But, let’s start small. These kids you see here are too young and malnourished, but in one or two years, some families might to have to send them out to work too. Doubtless you have seen paper girls, or little boys shining shoes. There are whole organisations that gather up orphans and put them to work as chimney sweeps, and many of the merchants in the Souk have kids nearby helping with the stock. Mei Ling nodded along to Milo’s words. When she spoke however, her disagreement became clear: “I’m sorry Mr Spudsder, but apprenticeships cannot be the solution. We can’t in all honesty be settling for having children work instead of learn how to read and write. I don’t want to compromise with you, you’ve asked what we need. To really provide for the children, we need schools that give them a good meal a day, not a master that beats them if he wants and uses them for cheap labour!”

Sylvia was stunned by Arc’s proposal. She had already started to get to terms with the fact that she might never be able to use her hand again, but having him offer to help her even more after already organising her rescue was incredible. “Mr Cannith, I... I don’t know what to say. I mean, I’ll have to discuss these options with my husband. We couldn’t possibly afford any of these things, but I don’t want to keep relying on your charity. I’m sorry, but could I have a day or two to decide?”
